Title: Next up - Huddersfield
Post by: Friendsoffulham on April 20, 2017, 07:06:28 PM
Currently sitting 4th in the Championship, last outing they drew away to Derby 1-1, one of the better footballing sides in the division, quite similar to us, so how does Slavisa set his team up for this one?

Bit of a mixed bag for Huddersfield in the last 6 games, have won 2, lost 3, drawn 1. Beaten the better sides, struggled again lesser sides, we are still without Chris Martin.

So, what are your predictions? How will we line up?

Anything Huddersfield is this post.

will the 5-0 at our place have any effect on how they see this game?

They tend to play a similiar system to us. Pressing high, two quick attacking full backs. But psychologically Fulham could have the upper hand. At home they may just be a little nervous. Bearing in mind, despite their game in hand, if we take all three points, we will be only two points adrift of them, which could throw a spanner in their works. All ifs and buts of course.
It would not surprise me if they are more worried about us, than the other way round. I also do not think their manager has made up his mind his starting line up for Saturday, I genuinely believe they are quietly concerned about playing us, and the 5 0 victory although now history, is playing a part in those thoughts. I admit they did not turn up that day, but we really cut them open, which no other team has done this season with so much success.

I work with a Huddersfield fan up here and he is worried that they are in such a run of mixed form atm.
He is very confident of the Play-Offs (and rightly so) they only really need three points from 4 games.  He is not so confident for Saturday, but see's it as a 1-1.
I am hoping for 3 points, but maybe 1 would not be a disaster?

I hope SJ approaches the game with Huddersfield as he has done for all our matches.  He is looking for improvements in every game and this bunch of lads still have room to get better and better as a team.  It is still a work in progress and that is what is so refreshing to me when watching the side play.  We just need to keep playing for a win in every game.

I think our tougher run in gives us an advantage.

We know we face rivals away from home so need to go win games as the next won't be easy.

Hopefully that'll toughen us.

I hope, rather than expect, Huddesfield will bottle it  through lack of experience. Their form suggests a potential wobble, plus we can't forget us turning them over.

Three points here and three points at home may be enough to put the nails into Leeds or Sheffield.

We can beat them, and they've looked a bit nervous of late. Against Derby they sat  back and absorbed their pressure- which wasn't very threatening for all the possession, unlike us who left gaps at the back going for a win there.

But tomorrow they'll be at home, and have to go for it. This should be some game, and I'm glad I've got a ticket, instead of the  stress of listening to GJ.

It will be massive if we can beat them, but it will be tough. Important not to lose though -only  a point, but the psychological  element of not being beaten.

Everybody should be targeting for a win from now on.

Think we are still improving game on game and players like ream are improving all the time as winning breeds confidence.

So, you are in charge of Huddersfield.  You know you need 3 or 4 points from your next 4 matches to guarantee a Play-Off place.
What do you do / What are you tactics?
Do you sit back and play for a draw against Fulham, knowing that it will be a good point gained and that you will be more than capable of picking up the required points from your next 3 games, or do you 'go-for-it', try to get the three points tomorrow and know that you are more or less there, with three games remaining?
If you try to 'out-play' Fulham, you could get caught out badly and take a heavy defeat.  This could have an awful effect on the team / supporters, heading into the Play-Offs.
You could say 'Play our usual game', but you have suffered a few hiccups recently and cannot really on your 'usual game' against a side as good as Fulham.
You decide.........

You would think that the home  crowd wouldn't let them sit back. You would expect them to want to take  3 points at home.

At Derby they weren't great, but nor were Derby, but Huddersfield did a job to ensure a point. But  it could be  case of 'so near yet so far' nerves for them.

We could just as easily lose 5-0 or win 5-0. This time of the season a defeat could mean the end of our hopes of a play off place or a win the continuation of the unlikely dream. It will all come down to how confident the individual players are in their individual battles. We need to start well and have no period of turning off.

Whatever happens it has been a good season. After tomorrow it may turn into a great one.

Huddersfield Town forward Izzy Brown (knee) could feature after missing the past four matches.

However, fellow Chelsea loanee Kasey Palmer (hamstring) has been ruled out for the season.

Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic has no new injury or suspension concerns to contend with.

On-loan Derby striker Chris Martin remains unavailable as he is still serving a three-match ban following his sending off at Norwich.

Huddersfield, currently fourth in the table, will secure a play-off place if they beat sixth-placed Fulham, or if they draw and Sheffield Wednesday lose at home to Derby.

Match facts
Huddersfield's last league victory over Fulham came back in September 1993, in the third tier, failing to win any of the last 10.
Fulham are unbeaten in their last four league trips to Huddersfield, winning two and drawing two.
On-loan Manchester City midfielder Aaron Mooy has registered six Championship assists this season for Huddersfield - all coming from corners; only Leeds' Pablo Hernandez can match that tally from corners in 2016-17.
Conversely, no Championship player has more assists from open play than Fulham's Sone Aluko (10 - level with Tommy Smith).
This match pits the two sides who've had more possession than their opponents in the most Championship games this season, with Fulham doing so in 41 games and Huddersfield in 36.
Half (6) of Huddersfield's 12 league defeats this season have come against sides currently occupying the top six, most recently a 1-3 defeat to Newcastle in March.

We can beat anyone in our league anywhere. Doing it is not completely in our hands, of course.

I like our chances regardless of who we play right now; having said that, if we get nothing tomorrow, I'm not going to hang myself from one of the lovely oak trees in my front yard. I figure 6 of 9 will get us in the playoffs and we can do that.

When will they start resting players for the playoffs? You'd expect Huddersfield to want us in the playoffs rather than Leeds.
