Title: Fulham’s Trophy Cabinet.
Post by: Woolly Mammoth on December 06, 2017, 01:04:35 PM
Good Afternoon Ladies and Genitalmen,
As mentioned on the New Riverside Stand Thread, ( that's right the one that hasn't been built yet ).
I am trying to ascertain where Fulham's Trophy Cabinet will be located and installed.
I am anxious for some assistance on this project, as I anticipate this Trophy Cabinet will commence being filled with Silverwear in the near future, and we have to be ready for this.
The other question is, that the Club have to make sure that it is big enough to House any extra items that we obtain. So what size do you think it should be.
I would not want the stand to be completed without considering this, and then end up having to leave the Cabinet out in the rain whilst some space is found to accommodate it.
It also needs to be placed in a position where we can all walk round it.

The Intertoto cup is very small so can probably just sit behind the bar on the shelf.

Yes i always try and be amiable and exuberant, merry and even chipper.
But I am genuinely concerned that we may have nowhere to put any future Trophies the club wins, and the thought of them lying in a broom cupboard somewhere leaves me feeling sad.

It looks as if the new stand has a loft, medels and cups can go up there along with clean sheets and strikers hat tricks. May never see this stand but then cups clean sheets and hat tricks are not exactly in abundance.

Don't forget "The Churchill Cup" ...which was competed for in 1965 (the year of Winston's state funeral) to commemorate the great man as a competition between us and Coventry City. The cup was going to be competed for occasionally between the two clubs in friendlies thereafter, but probably ended up as a doorstop in the lawnmower's hut, or pawned to finance the team's fish suppers on the way home from an away match. A programme in early '65 tells the story......

I once had the pleasure of seeing the cabinet, there is also a Southern League trophy.

Yep. Back-to-back Southern League Champions 1905/6 and 1906/7 before joining the Football League.

This is the 1906/7 side, which included the much-feared half back line of Collins, Morrison and Goldie.
They also won the Western League (whatever that was) hence the two, not inconsiderable, trophies.

...love the casual approach of the fellow extreme left front row with his legs crossed.....and that guy on the extreme right front row looks as if he could break your leg by looking at you...!!

A marvellous picture. It's strange to realise that well over a hundred seasons have passed by since it was taken.

WOW. What a great picture. The Stevenage RD stand would have been brand new in this picture. At the time it was the most expensive stand made including the cottage. I must admit to knowing nothing about football in this era but being fascinated by it. I need to get a book

BedsFFC:  The Fulham history books aside, a fascinating read is 'Engineering Archie', written by Simon Inglis and all about Archibald Leitch who designed the Stevenage Road stand.  He did lots of other football grounds as well - early MU, Hillsborough, Ibrox, etc. many of which no longer exist today but of cause ours does!

PS: Woolly, if those Southern League trophies are about, your cabinet is going to be of 'mammoth' proportions!

I don't want to denigrate the impressive cup runs or coming close second, but you only get honours or trophies for winning things.

Not for coming second or for being runners up.

That's coming second.

I don't call that an honour or a trophy.

Society these days is happy to settle for second place.

Imagine going on holiday and bumping into a few fellow football fans in a bar/pub.

We've all heard the first part of this conversation.

"Hello mate, who's your team?"

"Fulham"

"Yeh good club mate, nice day out"

"Yeh, people like coming to us. Good day, friendly fans, top ground and friendly"

"Yeh, right mate. Won much?"

"Oh yeh. Football Combination in 2001"

Be happy with who we are.

I am happy with who I am. 🐘
My body is a Temple, I am Handsome, Intelligent, Charismatic, with splendid social skills and the abilty to man manage with comunicational skills that are second to none. Added to that a telephone manner that a switchboard operator would die for. Not forgetting a profusion of motivational skills that would and could motivate a corpse.
I have been told on numerous occasions that I should have been a Stand Up Comedian, unfortunately I couldn't stand up.
On top of that, I once won a Yard of Ale Competition, and came  runner up in a Log Rolling Competition, which I could have won, but I had just finished winning the Yard of Ale Competition.
If I think of anything else I will let you know. But what I have achieved pales into insignificance compaired to what Fulham have achieved since 1879.
