Seri Signs
(http://ffcw001.azureedge.net/-/media/placeholder/misc/02810_ffc-new-signings_twitter_seri_awk.jpg?w=622&h=278)

We are delighted to confirm the signing of Ivory Coast international Jean Michaël Seri on a four-year deal from OGC Nice.

The midfielder has signed a contract until June 2022, with the Club holding an option to extend by a further 12 months after beating a host of top European sides to Seri's signature.

The deal is subject to international clearance, and the player obtaining a work permit.

A creative, intelligent central midfield player, Seri spent his younger years with Africa Sports d'Abidjan before joining the most successful side in Ivorian history in 2010, ASEC Mimosas.

After impressing in two seasons with the club, Seri was scouted by Porto and subsequently joined the Portuguese giants on loan for the 2012/13 campaign.

The following summer he made a permanent switch to a different top flight club in Portugal, Paços de Ferreira, who he helped retain Primeira Liga status, notably by scoring in their relegation play-off victory in his first season.

He also played in every one of their six Group Stage Europa League matches in 2013/14.

The subsequent campaign was a much more prosperous one for Paços de Ferreira, with Seri playing a major role as they secured an eighth-placed finish, missing out on a European spot by just a solitary point.

In the summer of 2015, Seri made the move to Nice and quickly established himself as a key component of the exciting Ligue 1 side.

Top-four and top-three finishes were achieved in his first two campaigns in France, while this term European qualification eluded Nice by one point.

The last two campaigns saw Seri top the charts in Ligue 1 in terms of passes played and completed, with an accuracy rate of 90.4 per cent last year, while he claimed a spot in the 2016/17 Team of the Season.

He made his debut for the Ivory Coast in September 2015, and now has 18 caps to his name.

Speaking at Motspur Park on Thursday morning, Seri said: "It was a long day yesterday so it was great to get the move finalised.

"Now, I'm ready to get started and looking forward to meeting the squad and getting to know them, the Head Coach and his staff better.

"I'm delighted to be here, it's a new adventure that starts for me and I'm hoping it will all go well."

Tony Khan said of Seri's arrival: "I'm delighted to announce that Fulham Football Club has signed midfielder Jean Michaël Seri from Nice.

"Jean Michaël arrives with Premier League qualities as well as great promise for the future, which is why he has been at the very top of our target list for a long time.

"So, this is a big day for everyone associated with Fulham and working at Motspur Park, and I trust all Fulham supporters are collectively as thrilled and ecstatic as we are that Jean Michaël will be joining our squad as we return home to the Premier League!"

Absolutely fantastic news - well done Fulham for getting this over the line.

No doubt there will still be debates raging on here over the next few weeks as to the competency of our recruitment team even with this deal done (not from myself), but if the reported fees paid are true one thing that cannot be disputed is Shad's ambition and willingness to dig deep matches the statements he made after the playoff final with this deal, so for that I am pleased and extremely grateful to him that his words have substance. I already thought as much but  genuinely think we have a good owner in Shad.

Let's hope it's the start of things to come!

Not sure what we paid - some reports are that his Release Clause of 35 Million Euro expired last Sunday and that we offered £20 Million plus add ons
Sure is a statement by the Club and SJ in regards to the quality of player we want to bring in to the Club and build the squad SJ feels he needs for his first season in the Premier League

Cairney being tied down was big, ream less so.. but having seen xavi waxing lyrical about Seri I watched videos on YouTube and this guy looks head and shoulders above most. 26 yr old and having beaten a lot of top clubs I'd consider this a) a coup and b) a big statement of intent from the club. Hopefully the start of a few similar quality signings. Shows definite ambition. Fans of other clubs around Europe will be suprised/impressed/perk up now.

Will still have an important part to play. You can never really predict who will do what due to injuries etc. I remember when Aluko signed and if you look back it was all 'bit part player, won't play 20 games, will be sub most of time' if Johansen is still here at start of season I still think he will play over 25 games.

Also bodes well in keeping slavisa at the club with the board backing him in such a way! 90% pass completion too and the highest passer in ligue 1 with over 2,400 it's exciting times.

For context, this is what Xavi said about him last year (if anyone knows what a good midfielder looks like it's Xavi!):

https://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/he-would-do-so-well-barca-xavi-wants-seri-camp-nou

He would do so well at Barca - Xavi wants Seri at Camp Nou

Having closely followed the progress of the 'African Xavi', the man himself would like to see Jean Michael Seri move to Barcelona from Nice.

Published
12 August 2017
Xavi believes Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri has the talent to play for Barcelona after following the career of the 'African Xavi'.

The 26-year-old starred as Nice finished third in Ligue 1 last season, with his form reportedly attracting suitors across Europe, while Xavi's interest was piqued by his nickname.

And Seri could take up Xavi's former role at Camp Nou, according to the Barca great, who has been "entranced" by the midfielder's play.

"When I was told that a player from Nice was called the 'African Xavi', I followed him very closely," Xavi told Le Parisien. "I didn't know [Seri] and I was entranced.

"I'm not used to seeing such talent in midfield any more. The short game, long game, tactical intelligence, long-range shooting, personality, organisation of the play... Madre mia!

"He would do so well at Barca. He can play anywhere in the middle. He is fantastic. He has what they call the Barca DNA. No doubt."

I like the positivity of this signing. I think it shows an intent to make the club self-sustaining within fair-play rules and via transfers. We're obviously looking at players who be costly but could be sold on for extreme amounts; I know that's a weird thought when we've only picked the guy up, but for a club of our size, it's a perfect strategy.

One of the options SJ has is McDonald as the Right CB paired with Ream - Le Marchand at LB ( he was switched to LB for the last half of the season )
StefJo is then the Deep Playmaker / Sweeper - Seri at LM and Cairney at RM

( I got that front to back ) better now

Fulham FC are pleased to announce the , slightly delayed, arrival of the Big Time.

Big money (whatever it might be). Big player - well, actually, small player but built like a welterwight boxer, but Big on talent. Has caught the eye of some of the Big names in the game.
Seems to work very hard and have a passing range that will add a new dimension to our game.

Great news.
More to come hopefully....oh, look more has come.

sounds good, I had not really heard of either but take everyiones word these are top class signings. Not sure why he is coming to fulham if barca wanted him last season so assume a bigger club could have been available However, why not, a big fish in a smaller pond will priobably be a smarter move for him and a brillaint step for us.

One word of caution... I hope, I really hope there is no sting in the tail with fitness and stuff like that, otherwise a very good start, MITRO and two or three more and we will be on our way.

This really looks to be a very great signing and one that could be the turning stone in FFC  return to the Premiership. I just wonder having obtained J.M.Seri to the midfield whether SJ has plans to use the other SJ in the forward line. If we now get Mitro they know each other and could form a new pairing. He has worked wonders before so it will be interesting to see what develops.

Anyway hats off to the management on this one, carry on the good work and we will all be happy.

The work permit is partly based on the wages paid, and he'll be the best paid Fulham player. That along with him being a full international should make it a mere formality.

Work permit etc. will be easy. a) It's a big money deal which means you can get special clearance and b) he plays pretty regularly for the Ivory Coast which is the standard criteria for work permits given out.

The player that Seri is usually compared to is Xavi. He is very much a playmaker rather than a midfield destroyer like Kante.

Taking a step back, Chelsea just finally fired their manager. There is no vision and players want to see what will become of RA.

We have vision, and an owner that is able to be committed to the PL and seriously on the up n up.

I sense a change in the tide in SW6.

Yes, Stefjo will definitely be needed. Let's not forget, our squad was very thin last year with both Stefjo and Cairney playing semi-injured for parts of the season. With our current squad we can actually allow one midfielder to be injured and receive treatment... Unless it's KMac of course. We still need cover for him.

The rest of the squad is still ridiculously thin so lets hope for more good news within the next couple of days/weeks.

Just went and read up on him. Seems he usually sits deep and plays a lot as a defensive type mid. Does this mean a 4-2-3-1 against strong attacking teams or does KMac sit?

The lad can take a penalty, is a good catholic boy, is quick and seems to like to do back heels. Take a look.

True, but someone like Kompany would simply put a body on him and keep him out of the play. You saw what Croatia has done with tall folks on the attacking side and what France has done on the defensive. As is often said, "you can't teach pace". Neither can you teach height. Size does have an advantage. Dennis is  a good example of what a shorter man can do. If he were 6'3" he'd be playing alone side someone like Kompany on one of the check book teams.

Either way, both players if true are both record signings. So nice having an owner who's willing to put money in to make the right signings. Top 6 teams fans are in shock and in some areas genuine awe in how we pulled this off. Great statement of intent as a result. Keep them coming! Time to shake up this league and push on.

And based on height  ... Messi would be playing for Brentford.

I think the higher the standard of football, the less significant height becomes. I think it's much more about two things: pace and footballing ability  ... not necessarily in that order.

But I do agree that Messi might occasionally, and very occasionally, struggle at centre-half.

Watching this video, the player he reminds me most of is Zidane:

Wow. Moussa Dembele before he came to the UK all over again. And 3x the price, but these are the days.

I honestly thought that we were being played against to push the money up and we would lose out in the end. A nice surprise

Looks better than moussa in my opinion on his all round ability.. to spot a pass, score a goal etc. Technically both look extremely gifted and can tackle and get past players with some ease but seri edges it on his creativity and vision and ability from a set piece.

So, does anyone know how much we actually paid for Seri? I've seen estimates between £17.7 million £30 million. Rare that the amount varies that much between the outlets.
Nobody will ever know. FFC doesn't list salaries or transfer fees. EVERYTHING you see in the press or on these pages is a guess, an estimate, or an outright lie.

He seems so serene/self-possessed. Acts like it's no big thing when he scores or gets badly fouled. Pretty cool (unique maybe?) to see a young footballer like that. I appreciated that in the video (I also appreciate the Mitro's of the world too)

Good interview with him and MLM on the offal. Seems Slav was quite keen to have both of them and spoke with them both at length about how he wants to use them in the squad so that's promising that he's got two good players that he also wants in his squad. Also interesting to hear Seri say that he was drawn here because of how much we wanted to sign him and have him as our star player, playing with a style of football that he enjoys.

not necessarily, just because we hide behind undisclosures, doesn't automatically mean that the selling club does

When he lines up, who other than Mitro and Betts are much over 6 feet tall. We are not going to be a big team at all.
height isnt everything. Odoi can out jump most players

How much help is Messi on defensive set pieces? I'll forward your comments on to Warnock & Pulis.

id imagine a massive help. You wouldn't just leave one full back on him at the halfway line would you. So he would stop a couple of players from going up for the corner
