Exclusive: West Ham Identify 'Three Managers' who Could Replace Moyes
West Ham United have earmarked three managers as potential successors to David Moyes as they put plans in place ahead of next season

West Ham United have identified Paulo Fonseca, Thomas Tuchel and Marco Silva as possible candidates to succeed David Moyes in the hot-seat.
The Hammers have started deliberating whether to make a move after holding discussions with Sporting head coach Ruben Amorim.
Julen Lopetegui has also been pushed into West Ham's direction as he seeks a route back into the Premier League.

West Ham United have identified three alternative candidates to Sporting head coach Ruben Amorim as they go in search of David Moyes' potential successor in the London Stadium dugout after a loss of form at a crucial time of the season, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

The Hammers are preparing to go into Saturday's clash with Premier League title-chasers Liverpool having failed to win any of their last four fixtures, which has resulted in being eliminated from the Europa League and included a 5-2 thrashing at the hands of Crystal Palace last week.

Although it has emerged that Amorim is unlikely to become West Ham's next manager after holding discussions with the hierarchy during a meeting in London, technical director Tim Steidten and co-owner David Sullivan are continuing to assess their options as they mull over whether to part company with Moyes.

Fonseca, Tuchel and Silva Pinpointed as Potential Successors to Moyes
Trio firmly on Hammers hierarchy's radar ahead of key decision

West Ham have pinpointed Paulo Fonseca, Thomas Tuchel and Marco Silva as potential replacements for Moyes, according to GMS sources, with board members deeming the trio to be plausible options as they continue contemplating whether to head in a different direction ahead of next season.

It is understood that Lille chief Fonseca is highly-regarded by the Hammers after guiding his side to a productive season, which included a run to the Europa Conference League quarter-finals, while the Portuguese tactician is thought to be keen on the idea of embarking on a fresh challenge in the Premier League.

Tuchel is already on the lookout for his next job as he is set to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season, having seen Bayer Leverkusen beat the Bavarians to the Bundesliga title, and GMS sources have been informed that an ambitious West Ham move for the German cannot be discounted as he has been spoken about behind the scenes.

Marco Silva, whose Fulham side sealed a win over the Hammers at the London Stadium earlier this month, is also being viewed as an outside option as Sullivan has been an admirer for a prolonged period and there is believed to be a release clause written into his Craven Cottage contract.

Hammers Alerted to Lopetegui's Availability
Former Wolves chief provided as option for east Londoners

GMS sources have been told that Julen Lopetegui is being pushed into West Ham's direction as an option rather than last season's Europa Conference League winners actively looking to hold discussions with the former Wolverhampton Wanderers chief, making his appointment at Moyes' expense less likely.

Steidten is expected to remain in his current surroundings and oversee the potential alteration at the helm instead of moving onto pastures new, despite there being speculation over his long-term future in the capital, and it is thought that the Hammers' push for their next chief is set to become a bigger talking point over the course of this week.

But GMS sources have been made aware that Lopetegui, who led Wolves to nine points from his 23 Premier League matches at the helm as he led the West Midlands outfit to top flight safety last season, is not at the top of West Ham's list of candidates to come in for Moyes.

"A real Rusyn upgrade" - Sunderland should eye up QPR and Fulham duo as transfer targets
FLW's verdict on which striker Sunderland should prioritise signing this summer

This article is part of Football League World's 'The Verdict' series, which provides personal opinions from the FLW writers regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more...

Sunderland will need to be searching for a new striker this summer if they are to compete for promotion to the Premier League next season.

The Black Cats have yet to confirm their latest head coach appointment as they continue to search for a replacement for Michael Beale.

First-team coach Mike Dodds has overseen the final few months of the campaign, but it's likely going to be an outside hire coming in to try and push the Wearside outfit back into the top six in 2024-25.

Sunderland's striker struggles in the 2023-24 season
Sunderland struggled to maintain their competitiveness compared to last year, where they reached a play-off place under Tony Mowbray.

A lack of consistent goals from their forward options has been a real issue, with the likes of Mason Burstow, Eliezer Mayenda, Luis Semedo and Nazariy Rusyn all either struggling or barely featuring.

The quartet has contributed a combined three goals between them in the Championship this season, so a new striker in the summer must be considered.

Sunderland should look at QPR and Fulham strikers for 2024-25 season
Here, two FLW writers have issued their verdict on which strikers Sunderland should prioritise pursuing in the upcoming transfer market.

Declan Harte
If Sunderland want to compete for promotion to the Premier League then they will need someone capable of consistent goals.

Finding someone who fits that mould while also still fitting the parameters of their recruitment policy is tricky.

The club wants to sign young players with potential that could become much more valuable once they've developed into more well-rounded and experienced players.

One potential option could be QPR's Sinclair Armstrong.

The Ireland international has only scored three goals this season, but has generated an xG of 6.1, while also playing in a side that has been battling against relegation all year.

Under-performing that metric is a slight concern, but there's no reason to assume it's a serious issue to do with his finishing, rather than variance.

At 20 years of age, he is also quite a young and promising upcoming forward, so has potential to continue improving over time, and his contract situation at Loftus Road is one that the Black Cats could potentially exploit.

His deal expires this summer, although Rangers have the option for a further year which they will surely trigger.

But that leaves him with just one year left, and no long-term extension could open the door for QPR to cash in on him this summer in order to avoid losing him for nothing in 2025.

Sunderland will surely have money to spend as Jack Clarke's departure this summer is somewhat inevitable, and some of that should go towards a player that fits 'the model' like Armstrong.

Ben Wignall
If Sunderland want to be in the top six, they will have to go out and get a proven Championship goalscorer as their multiple gambles this season have not worked.

Looking down the EFL pyramid, there aren't many strikers worth considering - Macaulay Langstaff of Notts County is too much of a gamble and the League One goalscorers are much of a muchness.

Sunderland could potentially go back in for Kieffer Moore if Ipswich don't try to sign the Wales international permanently, but it may be worth testing the loan market for a player in Jay Stansfield, who has been a target for the Black Cats before.

Tony Mowbray revealed at the time that he thought the Fulham youngster would be heading to the Stadium of Light, but he opted for the Midlands with Birmingham City instead, where he has scored 12 times in 41 appearances in his first season at Championship level.

Stansfield isn't a complete 'number nine' - he is a technical, nippy forward who can also play out wide and in the '10' too, but he can definitely lead a line at Championship level, and with the players Sunderland have out wide and in midfield, he would get chances.

With Fulham having Raul Jimenez and Rodrigo Muniz competing in a lone-striker system at Craven Cottage, Stansfield should be allowed to go out on loan again, and he is the one that Sunderland should be focusing on as soon as the season has finished - a real Rusyn upgrade.

Fulham interest in £13m star 'still exists'
Fulham could bolster their attacking options with a move for a Bundesliga star at a reduced price this summer.

Fulham could reignite transfer interest in winger Silas Katompa Mvumpa this summer having knocked at the door of VfB Stuttgart during the winter transfer window.

Transfer talk at Craven Cottage remains around the contracts of key stars as it stands with Tosin Adarabioyo, Bobby De Cordova-Reid, Kenny Tete and Willian all set to leave as free agents as it stands - although Marco Silva has shared his and the club's desire to extend those deals.

The loss of De Cordova-Reid and Willian would leave Fulham lacking options on the wings. Harry Wilson tends to be preferred as an option from the bench while Adama Traore is blighted by injury and Alex Iwobi is deployed in several positions.

The acquisition of Mvumpa could therefore prove a shrewd move for Fulham, who have clearly been looking at the player for an extended period of time. Sky Deutschland report that Fulham 'really wanted' the 25-year-old in January and were ready to fork out €20 million (£17 million) for his services, but a bid arrived 'too late' for the German side.

The report adds that Fulham's interest in the DR Congo international 'still exists' and that a representative from the club was even present to watch the player against Eintracht Frankfurt this month - although Mvumpa only managed a minute from the bench.

The winger has registered five goals and five assists across 26 appearances in all competitions this term and was absent for a month due to Africa Cup of Nations commitments.

The Bundesliga side are now said to be asking for between £9 and £13 million for the player, which is considerably less than Fulham were reportedly willing to cough up earlier this year. Mvumpa is reportedly 'completely open' about his future.

Premier League make official Fulham vs Crystal Palace decision after Nottingham Forest complaint
Fulham welcome Crystal Palace to Craven Cottage this weekend and the match will be overseen by a man making headlines this week.

The referee at the heart of VAR controversy following Everton's win over Nottingham Forest last weekend, Stuart Attwell, has been appointed to take charge at Craven Cottage on Saturday when Fulham host Crystal Palace.

Nottingham Forest posted a bombshell message on social media platform X following the club's defeat to relegation rivals Everton, questioning Attwell's integrity due to a number of VAR decisions going against the away side at Goodison Park.

Despite the controversy surrounding the incident and Forest's reaction, the Premier League has confirmed that Attwell will oversee this weekend's meeting between the Cottagers and the Eagles. Michael Salisbury will be on VAR with Darren Bond as the fourth official.

The fixture between Fulham and Crystal Palace could still have consequences on the fight for survival with the south London side not yet mathematically safe, despite sitting in 14th with 11 points on 17th-placed side Luton Town.

Nottingham Forest slammed refereeing decisions on Sunday and took issue with Attwell 'being a Luton fan' as the club felt three penalty decisions were wrongly missed. Forest have called for PGMOL to release the audio from the VAR discussions that led to those decisions.

The club's post on X, formerly Twitter, read: '"Three extremely poor decisions - three penalties not given - which we simply cannot accept. We warned the PGMOL that the VAR is a Luton fan before the game but they didn't change him. Our patience has been tested multiple times. NFFC will now consider its options."

The Premier League said it was 'extremely disappointed' by the post. The league added: "It is never appropriate to improperly question the integrity of match officials, and the nature of these comments means the Premier League will also be investigating the matter in relation to the league's rules."

Attwell was recently in charge of Fulham's meeting with London rivals West Ham at the London Stadium, which the visitors won 2-0. He also oversaw the Cottager's 4-3 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield and 1-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park this term.

"I'm calm, stable and happy" – Fulham star not concerned about leaving club in the summer
Fulham star João Palhinha doesn't seem keen to feed new rumours of a departure from Craven Cottage.

He and Andreas Pereira were both interviewed by DAZN Portugal this week, with Mais Futebol's website now featuring the quotes.

Palhinha was asked about a potential exit from Fulham at the end of the season, and ended up claiming he's actually not thinking about a transfer, as he's more focused on the end of season with Fulham and the Euros with Portugal.

"I'm calm, I want to finish the season in the best possible way. The Euros are coming up. I want to finish these games in good shape. Everything else doesn't worry me. I'm calm, stable and happy. I don't want to be bothering my head with things that don't make sense now. I want to play football and help Fulham win these five games," said Palhinha.

Last summer, Palhinha had the whole Bayern Munich saga around him, and even though some rumours said the transfer could happen in January, that was never the case.

It now remains to be seen whether it's the Bundesliga giants or another club who'd like to take the midfielder from Fulham this year, as he continues to have very good performances for the London side.

Bayern Munich are expected to change managers at the end of the season, and that should be decisive for the club's summer plans.

Stuart Attwell confirmed as referee for Fulham vs Crystal Palace after VAR controversy
Attwell will be joined by Anthony Taylor at Euro 2024 too

The referees at the centre of Nottingham Forest's row with the Premier League and FA have been picked to officiate at Euro 2024.

Stuart Attwell, whose integrity was questioned by Forest following their 2-0 defeat by Everton on Sunday, will be one of the VARs in Germany this summer, while Anthony Taylor who was in charge for the game, will be a referee, UEFA announced this morning.

Both the Premier League and the FA have launched investigations after Forest accused Atwell of being a Luton fan in a controversial social media post following their defeat.

Forest are refusing to back down, with their owner Evangelos Marinakis said to be "raging" at the decisions of Taylor and Attwell after the team was denied three penalties at Goodison Park.

Forest have made a formal request to PGMOL to release the audio recordings of conversations between officials, and are considering legal action. If Forest are charged and found guilty, a range of sanctions starting with a fine can be applied.

The Daily Mail reported this morning that Forest are also considering legal action against Sky Sports after pundit Gary Neville labelled their controversial statement like that of a "mafia gang".

Fulham still want player, €20m proposal would likely be lower – Deal there to be done
Fulham failed to sign Silas Katompa Mvumpa, after making an offer to VfB Stuttgart in the winter market.

On February 5th, we covered claims from Germany that Marco Silva's side are pushing to sign the winger in the summer window.

Fast forward to April and Sky Deutschland now share the latest update

It's pointed out again that the Premier League side 'really wanted' the player in January and were even prepared to offer €20m to Stuttgart. The deal didn't take shape because Fulham's bid arrived 'too late' in the transfer window.

Sky add Fulham's interest in the DR Congo international 'still exists' and they sent an official to watch him live in action against Eintracht Frankfurt, when he came off the bench late in the game.

Silas has scored five goals and registered five assists from 26 games this season, and his deal lasts until 2026.

It's claimed the Bundesliga side are demanding a fee between €10m and €15m, and the report says it's 'questionable' whether Marco Silva's are willing to meet their request. Sky make no mention of the fee Fulham are ready to invest for Silas, that €20m was for a January deal and they'd probably be hesitant now.

The attacker, for his part, is 'completely open' about his future. He can see himself at another club next season, but isn't pushing for a transfer. At the same time, he can imagine staying at Stuttgart and fulfilling his contract.

'Really good start' – Crystal Palace defender pleased with five-star win over West Ham ahead of Newcastle and Fulham
Oliver Glasner's Crystal Palace saw off London rivals West Ham United 5-2 on Sunday to move within one win of Premier League safety for another season.

The victory, coupled with a 1-0 win at Anfield against Liverpool one week earlier, saw back-to-back wins for the first time in the league this season as the Eagles look to end their 2023/24 campaign on a high.

"It was dope," said Crystal Palace and USA defender Chris Richards after the demolition of the east London team at Selhurst Park. "We had good momentum from last week and brought it into the game this week. We know it is a big week for us and it was a really good start.

"We watched film and we saw the good things we did against Liverpool. We understood that if we do that against the best team in the league, we can do it against any team, so we tried to bring the good things that we did last week and use them in the game today – the result showed."

Richards returned to the Eagles starting 11 for the first time since the end of March after he missed three games due to a knee injury picked up away at Nottingham Forest.

And he was quick to heap praise on the defensive unit to the side and in front of him, including wing-backs Daniel Munoz and Tyrick Mitchell, plus the central midfield duo of Adam Wharton and Will Hughes.

"It's a perfect mixture," said the 24-year-old about the players around him. "We have the two guys on the wings that are just flying and then we have the two guys in the middle that are more for control and a bit more 'finesse' players.

"It's a good mix and it makes our job easier. We just need to defend and get the balls to those guys who are really good at it and who are really comfortable with it.

"It felt good," added Richards about his return from injury. "It's been a few tough few weeks, sitting on the sidelines and watching everybody play. I'm glad to glad to be back on the pitch and hopefully can finish off the season really strong.

"Everybody's working pretty cohesive right now and that's been the reason why we have succeeded as of late."

That cohesiveness saw Ebere Eze, Adam Wharton, Michael Olise, Will Hughes and Joachim Andersen all involved in the build-up to the opening goal, headed in by Olise in the seventh minute, before Eze and an own goal from Emerson extended the Palace lead to 3-0 inside the opening 20 minutes.

Jean Philippe Mateta would go on to score two goals, punctuated by a Michail Antonio strike for West Ham before Dean Henderson in the Palace goal sliced a pass back into his own net in the final minute to end the match 5-2.

And for Richards, the team ethic behind the opening goal on Sunday – just like the winner at Anfield, which saw 21 passes provide Eze with the winning strike – made the win even sweeter.

"The attacking players tend to get the wrap of scoring the goals, but it makes us feel good when everybody's touched the ball when it's a team play where we completely break down the team rather than just a one-on-one goal. It brings us a lot of pride," he added.

"But it's not really something we work on. We just work on getting it to the guys who are good on the ball and they do whatever they need to do to score, but it gives us a big sense of pride knowing that everybody touched the ball, everybody shared it."

With the win, Richards and his Palace side are now one win from safety in a season which has had its fair share of disappointment.

But the central defender is only looking forward to the future and controlling the destiny of himself and his team.

"We view every game as a day to get better, a day to prove ourselves," he said. "We understand that some teams are safe (from relegation) and some teams are still in limbo right now, but we try not to worry about too much what's going on around us. We just try to go out and get three points every game.

"Oliver brought a lot of good stuff to us; a lot of good ideas, a lot of good values. We're just trying to bring it all on board and hopefully finish out the season," added Richards about new manager Glasner, who took over the role just eight games ago.

"Then, at the beginning of next season, hopefully we will have a good preparation and lead into the beginning of next season and really compete."
