The Battle For 8th Place

The mid-table fight in the Prem is looking interesting now and I think Fulham have a decent shot at 8th all of a sudden.

Villa are out of sight IMHO but Everton have been hit by some key injuries recently just as we have players coming back. They are still in Europe as well and I could see them faltering (their excellent Man Utd performance notwithstanding)!

I think West Ham are having too many dodgy results to make a strong run and 10 points is too big a gap to make up in the remaining 12 games.

Of the other 3 (Brum, Stoke & Blackburn) Stoke are the only ones I think could give us a decent run for our money in the run-in but we seem to have the momentum with us.

How do you think the team below will line-up come the end of the season?

7 Aston Villa 26 16 45
8 Everton 26 1 38
9 Fulham 27 3 37
10 Birmingham 26 -3 37
11 Stoke 26 -3 34
12 Blackburn 27 -14 34
13 West Ham 26 -5 27

Without taking the time to look at the fixtures ahead for Villa and Everton, I see no way to do anything but finish 9th. Everton is playing excellent football and despite some ups and downs, they have come from a long way back to slot into 8th place. Villa could slide but they have a really good team that doesn't seem to be on the verge of faltering like they did last year.

I say 9th is where we will stay.

I think Everton will overtake Villa and Spuds. I think we'll see this.

1. The Undead
2. Man U
3. Arsenal
4. Liverpool
5. Everton
6. Aston Villa
7. Man City
8. Tottenham
9. Fulham
10. Birmingham

I wish we could overtake Spuds, but if they can win so easily on a pitch made out of dried chili-con-carne, then I don't think we will.

A FAR EASIER RUN IN .....

Rupert

Looking at the table tonight, I can not see us finishing outside 8th-12th. For Wet Spam or anyone below to catch us they have to win four games more than us, with only a dozen at most to go that is a massive task.
Similarly, for us to overhaul anyone other than Villa, we need to win three more than them. If our away form suddenly takes off then, just maybe, we could catch somebody who falters, but I doubt if it will be Spuds, unfortunately. I can see them getting 12-18 points from their run in, meaning we would need 20-25. This includes us going to such easy to win at places like Anfield, Old Trafford (yes, I know we did them 3-1 a while back, but even so...) and the Emirates. Oh, and Everton, where we never win in the league. Our home form should see us comfortably up to 50-odd points, give or take a few, and that is pretty good going given the injuries we have had to contend with.
Any fool can criticise, condemn and complain, and most fools do.

Everton will finish 8th in front of us. If it's anywhere close we play them away at the end of the season and always lose at Goodison.

MrCheviot

I think Everton will push harder for 7th than us, as we've got a better chance of qualifying for Europe via fair play or even the FA Cup than league position.

I think it'll be:

1. Dark Side
2. Man U
3. Arsenal
4. Man City
5. Aston Villa
6. Liverpool
7. Spuds
8. Everton
9. Fulham
10. Brum
11. Stoke
12. Blackburn
13. West Ham
"Zamora!! What About that? We have seen some brilliant football from Shakhtar Donetsk tonight, but nothing.. nothing quite as good as that!"

Things change, they beat us at home last year for the first time in ages as well!
