Capello names squad
By - Saturday, 27 February, 2010

Fabio Capello names his squad to face Egypt at Wembley.

Fabio Capello has named a 24-man squad for England's first match of 2010, a friendly against Egypt on Wednesday evening.

Stewart Downing returns to the squad for the first time in a year having returned from injury and finding fine recent form with Aston Villa, he is one of seven players who could potentially be involved in Sunday's Carling Cup Final between Villa and Manchester United.

Ryan Shawcross is called into the England squad for the first time, while Leighton Baines and Stephen Warnock will compete for the left-back spot in the absence of both Ashley Cole and Wayne Bridge.

Joe Hart is one of England's trio of goalkeepers following his consistent form on loan at Birmingham City, joining Portsmouth's David James and West Ham United stopper Robert Green.

What a joke, cole and heskey but no Zamora. No chance of a world cup place now

wadey

not really a surprise is it!!!!............but i wouldnt worry, dont be surprised if heskey and cole cry off injured before wednesday anyway

Jimpav

I think that no Bz is a blessing in disguise. Lots of massive games coming up- why risk him in the  England side?

No Shorey seems less comprehensible when they have got donkeys like Lescott and Shawcross playing. Plus Milner is listed in defense.

Big club bias. What a joke.

He is injured and so is a bit pointless calling up someone who's injured - no?

That said I was hoping although not expecting him to be called up. Don't forget Walcott was called up having had no previous experience so anything could happen! :/

Tom

How is this shocking? He is hurt and couldn't play anyway. If he was healthy, I fully believe he would be on the England spuad!

From a selfish point of view i'd rather he didn't play for England but i think Capello has lost the plot. Heskey and Cole ahead of Zamora? Has he watched any games recently?
