is there any reason why our reserves run towards the putney end for a warm up, rather than towards the home fans in the hammersmith end?

The substitutes always warm up behind the assistant referee (linesman to you) so as not to cause distraction with offside decisions. Most referees have their linos running left backs/right wings, so the riverside Lino tends to be in the Putney half of the pitch, hence the reserves warm up in that half.
Another good reason to move away fans somewhere else...
Any fool can criticise, condemn and complain, and most fools do.

Now you write this Mr Rupert i can see this is true although i never knew there was method in the madness, it all makes sense now.
Watching the ups and downs since 1958, wouldn't have it any other way, what a roller coaster of a club.

Back in the day for warming up, some players would just go into the dressing room, sit on the radiator and smoke a cigarette
If you wake up in the morning and nothing hurts, you are most likely dead
