Questions over Sunday's team selection

There has been quite a lot of discussion over why more players were not rested for the game against man city. I would like to jump to Roy's defence. Firstly, he rested Hangeland completely. This was important as he has been carrying an injury. It was not really necessary to rest the back 5 as consistency is key in defence, although I would have preferred Kelly to Baird on the right.

Secondly, he brought off Gera and Zamora early in the second half, no doubt to rest them for Wed. This allowed them to stretch their legs and keep themselves in the correct mindset.

Thirdly, I think it is important to keep playing our best team where possible. Whislt fatigue is certianly an issue, I also think that it is dangerous to start making wholesale changes as this upsets the balance of the squad. Keeping players in a competitive mindset is crucial as it stops them getting complacent.

Fourthly, Defeats can be contagious. Obviously Fulham lost, but it probably should have ended in a draw. Had Roy effectively flown the white flag before the game with a second-string side, I think it would have had a negative impact on the belief of the team.

I think there may have been some mental fatigue there yesterday, but this team amazes me at its level of fitness. I have always felt with players such as Papa Murf that when he has missed games it takes him a couple  of games to get up to standard again.
Watching the ups and downs since 1958, wouldn't have it any other way, what a roller coaster of a club.
