Harry Carpenter, widely known as the BBC's voice of boxing has died at the age of 84.
He died in his sleep in the early hours of Saturday morning in London's King's College hospital, the Corporation reported.
His lawyer David Wills told Sky News that he had been unwell since last summer after suffering a minor heart attack.
As well as his boxing coverage, Carpenter presented Sportsnight, Grandstand and Sports Personality of the Year for the BBC.
He also presented the BBC's Sports Personality of the Century to Muhammad Ali, having been present at the Ali-Foreman 'Rumble in the Jungle' in 1974.
In later years, Carpenter became known for his double act with boxing giant Frank Bruno, whose "Know what I mean, Harry?" entered popular culture.
Bruno is said to be 'shocked and upset' at the death of his former mentor.
Boxing promoter Frank Maloney described Carpenter's death as 'like a piece of boxing history taken away.'
Carpenter leaves a wife and one son.

The Equalizer

Very sad news. A real legend as sports journalists go. RIP.
"We won't look back on this season with regret, but with pride. Because we won what many teams fail to win in a lifetime – an unprecedented degree of respect and support that saw British football fans unite and cheer on Fulham with heart." Mohammed Al Fayed, May 2010

Any link with the past broken. The great voices are all being silenced. We are sadly being left with no voice at all.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope
