Bounce Back

Being starved of success on Fulham’s weekend trip to Merseyside has made Mousa Dembele all the more hungry to satisfy his appetite for a top ten Premier League finish.

Ahead of the Team’s return to Liverpool, the Belgian playmaker admitted he was determined to make amends for Saturday’s loss at Everton and leave the Red side of Stanley Park on Tuesday night enjoying sweet the taste of victory.

“We can go level on points with Liverpool with a win, which is why I am so hungry to beat them,” said Dembele.

“We want to prove ourselves when we go back up to Liverpool because the Everton game was not our best performance.

“We still aim to finish above Liverpool so now is our chance to show them that we can.

“If we want to do that, we have to win this game and give ourselves the best chance of catching them in the league.”

The Anfield outfit contest the FA Cup final with Chelsea on Saturday, but Dembele believes the Reds would regret not giving Fulham their full attention and is clearly desperate to bring the three points back to SW6.

“I want to play against the best Liverpool team, but if they don't play the best Liverpool team we will still do our best to beat them as well,” Dembele added.

“For me, I hope they play with their best players possible so we can show we can beat them.”

But the most important factor for the 24-year-old is that the bruises inflicted by the Toffees at Goodison Park will soon be healed with a positive performance against their city rivals.

“It's not disappointing that we have another game so quickly after the Everton match,” Dembele said.

“I'm happy to have the chance to play and forget about the Everton game and we can have a good feeling about the Liverpool game if we win this game, or play very well.”

Liverpool Ticket Latest:

Supporters wishing to attend Tuesday night's encounter at Anfield can buy their match tickets in person from the Liverpool Ticket Office from 8.15am on Tuesday. Please note that supporters buying tickets on the day will be required to present their FFC Membership or Season Ticket card.

Belgian buy may clear Moussa path

Moussa Dembele could be on his way to Spurs or Liverpool if Fulham tie up the expected £3.5m transfer of Twente's Nacer Chadli.

Dembele, who joined Fulham from AZ in 2010, is the subject of strong interest from both clubs and could be allowed to leave if the bidding tops £10million this summer.

Chadli appears to be the ready-made replacement for the Belgian winger and is keen to follow Dembele to Fulham, according to the player's agent.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a move away from De Grolsch Veste after attracting interest from some of Europe's top clubs - including Benfica.

Daniel Evrad, Chadli's agent, said: "He has a 99 per cent chance of leaving with Fulham his destination."

Chadli has scored eight goals in 31 appearances for Twente this season and, although he is right-footed, can operate on both flanks.

Fulham are well equipped with wide players at the moment with veteran Damien Duff and youngster Karim Frei also on the books.

Premier League Preview: Fulham (H)

Liverpool face Fulham in their penultimate fixture at Anfield and it will be interesting to see who Dalglish includes in the side with the not-so-small matter of the FA Cup final against Chelsea taking place just four days after we host Martin Jol’s team.

The Cottagers secured a 1-0 victory at Craven Cottage in December, thanks to a late Clint Dempsey strike after Jay Spearing was controversially sent off despite clearly winning the ball. As a result, Liverpool will be hoping to prevent Fulham from claiming their first league double – and first ever win at Anfield – as well as ensuring we head into the FA Cup final in a positive frame of mind, building on the emphatic victory over Norwich City in the process.

The rest of this post including statistics, league form and team news is for subscribers only.

Kenny Dalglish wants Liverpool players to battle for FA Cup Final places against Fulham

LIVERPOOL manager Kenny Dalglish has urged his players to stake their claim for a place in this weekend's FA Cup final.

The Reds face Fulham at Anfield tomorrow but the most significant game in terms of their season is the Wembley encounter against Chelsea four days later.

Dalglish is usually adamant he and his players focus on the next match only, but even he has hinted he may pick his team to face the Cottagers with one eye on the final, in which Liverpool could win their second trophy of the campaign.

"We've said to all of the players we want to give you the best possible chance to be available for selection on Saturday," said the Scot.

"We want the strongest possible squad we can to pick from for Saturday's game, and there are many ways we can do it.

"If someone needs a break we'll give them a break and if someone needs a game we will give them a game, because every single one of them are more than capable of playing in a cup final for this club.

"It's going to be a difficult selection as it always is but it's a difficult selection for tomorrow night as well.

"Everybody will be treated fairly and equally and everybody will be allowed to put their CV in for selection on Saturday."

Striker Andy Carroll has returned to training having been left out of the squad for Saturday's victory at Norwich as a precaution because of a minor groin problem.

However, Dalglish is unlikely to take any risks ahead of the cup final and that could mean other key players are held back.

It leaves the Reds boss with an interesting decision over Luis Suarez, who scored a brilliant hat-trick at Carrow Road.

Losing the Uruguay international for the final would be catastrophic and defender Jose Enrique summed up what having this season's leading scorer in the side means.

"Luis is so important for us. It's great to see him doing well and I hope he can score a few more before the end of the season," he told the Liverpool Echo.

"We all know Luis is a very special player for us. He's been really unlucky this season.

"Wherever he has been, whether in Uruguay or Holland, if you look at his record he's scored a lot.

"I'm sure he will do the same here because he's a top striker.

"He always plays well, always at 200%. He showed against Norwich exactly what he can do and caused their centre-backs so many problems all the way through the game.

"He's played like that many times and had many chances and deserved a lot more goals."

Fulham visit Merseyside for the second time in three days, but despite their abject performance in a 4-0 defeat at Everton on Saturday, Dalglish will not underestimate the visitors.

"They're a good side, Fulham, and difficult to play against," he told liverpoolfc.tv.

"They got battered 4-0 at Everton on Saturday so I'm sure they will be a bit upset with that and they might be wounded animals coming to play against us.

"We will just play the best we possibly can and for us it's an important game.

"It's one we want to get three points from, and we'll put a team on the pitch we think can win and we want to win, then we can concentrate on the final afterwards."

Another Small Sign that Soccer in America is Slowly Building

I’m going to take a moment away from Fulham to write something I think all fans of this sport can appreciate.

In England, you have your iconic commentators/broadcasters for most sports, but especially soccer.  I’m not going to pretend I know who’s the most famous or well-liked, but I’ll throw out a few names I do know: Martin Tyler. Ian Darke.  Jonathan Pearce.  Barry Davies.

While you may not personally like a lot of the bigger name commentators, they all have some meaning to the sport, and they had some influence on how you perceived the sport growing up.

It’s the same here in the States.  Certain baseball, football (American), basketball, hockey, etc announcers shape the way we see the sport.  For example, as a Yankees and Giants fan growing up, I have heard the same voices (John Sterling for the Yankees and Bob Papa for the Giants) for years, and when they go eventually, listening to the sport won’t be the same.

Ok, to my point.  There’s one broadcaster here who’s shaped the way Americans view March Madness.  Gus Johnson is a new-age broadcaster who’s unique way of identifying with the viewer’s tension is unparalleled.  If you don’t know him, his most well-known quality is his incredible excitability.  Because of it, he’s somewhat shunned by the older generations, and he’s become a bit of a cult hero for the younger kids like myself.  He doesn’t go crazy all the time, just when it’s warranted.  Here’s some of his gems:

The Best of Gus Johnson HA HA

David Garrard Hail Mary TD to Mike Thomas..Jaguars vs. Texans 2010

Thanks to Gus, phrases such as “The slipper still fits!!” “Morrisooooooooon!!!” and his signature “HA HA!” have become regular lexicon when discussing college basketball.

Well now, good ol’ Gus, who no longer calls March Madness (at the moment) because CBS Sports are idiots and didn’t renew his contract, has found himself some spare time, and chose to use it wisely, calling soccer for the San Jose Earthquakes of the MLS. While this may not seem important, it’s another small sign that soccer in America is slowly garnering the attention of top broadcasters, and we all know how much the media giant in America decides what’s important for all of us who can’t think for ourselves.  Here’s his call of their most recent last-minute win (I tried to embed it but the video is with DailyMotion and it won’t go on WordPress).

It’s kinda clunky, and obvious he’s still getting used to the flow of the game, but he has the terminology down, and what better sport to make use of his sudden excitability than this one?  It makes sports broadcasting junkies like me giddy, and like Gus Johnson or not, it’s a step in the right direction.  It tells us that this sport is slowly but surely gaining some steam in the United States.  And that can only mean good things for the rest of the community.

Keeping Clint

The grapevine is still inferring that Everton are keen to lure Clint Dempsey to Goodison Park.

Following on from our 4-0 defeat on Saturday, it wouldn`t surprise me if Clint`s head was turned, but in his post match interview with the media, Billy McKinlay expressed his views on Clint`s future, remarking,

"I think it is vital to keep Clint. He has been outstanding this season and I am sure the club will be doing everything in its power to keep him."

"He has been a vital player for us and hopefully, we shall get that one tidied up."

The sooner the better I`d say!

Icelandic Striker Chase

We`re expecting a fair amount of movement in the transfer market this summer.

Who will leave and who will come in remains to be seen.

But the latest inference in the gossip columns is that Fulham are amongst a trio of clubs, the others being Reading and Everton who are keen on the Icelandic striker Bjorn Bergmann Sigurdarson

Currently playing in Norwegian football, for Lillestrom, the twenty-one year old is rated in the £1 million bracket; surely he`s worth a punt at that price!

Fulham waiting for news on Jol

Fulham were on Monday still waiting to learn whether boss Martin Jol would be forced to sit out his second match in four days.

Jol did not travel with the team for their Barclays Premier League game at Liverpool after missing Saturday's defeat at Everton with a chest infection. The Dutchman's presence appeared to be badly missed at Goodison Park as the Cottagers crashed to their heaviest away defeat since he was appointed manager last summer.

First-team coach Billy McKinlay will once again take charge on Tuesday if Jol is deemed not fit to link up with the squad during the next 24 hours.

Regardless of who is in the dugout, Fulham's Belgian playmaker Mousa Dembele believes a famous scalp is there for the taking, as well as an immediate chance to put things right on Merseyside.

"We can go level on points with Liverpool with a win, which is why I am so hungry to beat them," he told the Cottagers' official website, www.fulhamfc.com. "We want to prove ourselves when we go back up to Liverpool because the Everton game was not our best performance.

"We still aim to finish above Liverpool so now is our chance to show them that we can. If we want to do that, we have to win this game and give ourselves the best chance of catching them in the league."

Striker remains a doubt

Andy Johnson is a doubt for Fulham's trip to Anfield on Tuesday night because of an adductor injury.

Johnson missed Saturday's 4-0 thrashing at his former club Everton and was not expected to recover in time for the Cottagers' second match on Merseyside in the space of four days.

Stephen Kelly may also have to wait before making his comeback, while winger Bryan Ruiz (foot), Steve Sidwell (hernia) and Zdenek Grygera (knee) are long-term absentees.

Manager Martin Jol missed the defeat at Goodison with a chest infection and it is not yet known whether he will be able to return to the bench on Tuesday night.

Fulham manager Martin Jol expected to return for Liverpool match

Martin Jol was today set to return to the Fulham dugout tomorrow for their second match on Merseyside in four days.

Jol did not travel with the Cottagers squad today for their Barclays Premier League game at Liverpool after missing Saturday's defeat at Everton with a chest infection.

But Press Association Sport understands the Dutchman has been given the all clear to link up with them tomorrow ahead of the match at Anfield.

Jol's presence appeared to be badly missed at Goodison Park as Fulham crashed to their heaviest away defeat since he was appointed manager summer, with first-team coach Billy McKinlay handed the reins.

Regardless of who is in the dugout, Fulham's players are determined to make amends tomorrow for Saturday's defeat, which was a huge blow to their hopes of finishing above Liverpool in the table.

The sides had been level on points and almost level on goal difference before the weekend but the ninth-placed Cottagers will need to produce their first ever victory at Anfield to move back to the same points tally as their opponents tomorrow night.

There has arguably never been a better time to go to the home of the five-time European champions, who have endured a miserable time in front of their own fans this season.

Fulham's Belgian playmaker Mousa Dembele believes a famous scalp is there for the taking and well as an immediate chance to put things right on Merseyside.

"If we want to do that, we have to win this game and give ourselves the best chance of catching them in the league."

Liverpool could alos rest several players tomorrow ahead of Saturday's FA Cup final against Chelsea.

But Dembele was not interested in playing a weakened side, insisting Fulham were good enough to shock their top stars.

"I want to play against the best Liverpool team, but if they don't play the best Liverpool team, we will still do our best to beat them as well," he said.

"For me, I hope they play with their best players possible so we can show we can beat them."

Dembele was also itching for the chance to banish the memories of Saturday's defeat, insisting he was more than happy to be playing again four days later.

"It's not disappointing that we have another game so quickly after the Everton match," Dembele said.

"I'm happy to have the chance to play and forget about the Everton game and we can have a good feeling about the Liverpool game if we win this game, or play very well."

Fulham on alert as FC Twente winger admits he wants to leave the club

Fulham have been put on high alert after the agent of Nacer Chadli admitted he is "99 per cent certain" to leave FC Twente this summer.

The west London club have been tracking winger Chadli, 22, for some time now after some impressive performances for Twente.

It has been suggested that the Belgium international is set to leave Holland this summer, and now his agent Daniel Evrard has confirmed that is the most likely scenario.

"Nacer might have already joined Fulham," he told Dutch newspaper Het Nieuwsblad.

"But the transfer was cancelled when he injured his knee.

"Ultimately, Fulham bought Bryan Ruiz but now Nacer is back on the market, Fulham's interest will probably again manifest

"England and Germany are his preferred leagues and it is 99 per cent certain that Chadli will leave Twente."
