What is up with the Sweaty Socks?

Scottish Club football and Rangers at an all time low. As Reverend Tom would say: WTF?

The sweaties probably couldn't cope with the Florida heat. Cardiff is as exotic as they'll go.

The most attacking I've ever seen any USA team do. We were so concentrated on goals, we even scored Scotland's.

I thought Scotland would have done better. I saw Maloney with Villa a few times and a few Wigan matches now as well... he's speedy and exciting. I am sure it was 88/32 degrees and 99%  humidity though, and warmer than any temp ever recorded in Scotland I imagine. Prob hard for them to cope.

It's difficult for me to feel sympathy for the Jocks (and to be honest I don't try that hard). But it must be frightening for them the way their talent base has disappeared. We should be interested in what they have done wrong (and I don't know enough about Scottish football to say what that might be) - if only as a lesson.

They almost always underachieved as a team, but, in my time Law, Baxter, Dalglish, McGrain and Jimmy Johnstone were not only good players, they were genuinely great players. Add to these the likes of Bremner, Buchan, Collins (x2), Docherty, Evans, Gemill, Gilzean, Hansen, Henderson, Jordan, Lorimer, McCoist, Mackay, McNiell, McStay, Nicholas, Reilly, Souness, StJohn, Strachan, White to name but a few (!) and compare it to today's bunch and you wonder how the talent dried up.

It's a good question and one which was at the back of my mind when I wrote the message.

My gut reaction was that we, England, had more talent when the above-mentioned Scots were about than we do now. But that might just be rose-tinted hindsight spectacles. I thought I might give it the benefit of the doubt, wait and see if Cauley Woodrow makes it big.

Don't forget, we've only just done with 'the Golden Generation' (pause for vomitting or hysterical laughter, as required)

The heat and humidity could have certainly played a role in the second half but I doubt it explains goals given up at 3 and 10 minutes.  Perhaps it was the travel or perhaps the US just had a hellva day on the pitch.

Not forgetting the great Graham Leggat, Mr CMG, who admittedly didn't get the number of caps he deserved - particularly after joining us. But next to Johnny Haynes I have him down as our next best player of all time just a shade in front of Reg Stratton

Yes, but we've struggled against poorer teams than Scotland under JK. He tends to be very methodical and his players are tentative and unsure. THIS match, however, we attacked for the first 75 minutes from both wings and up the middle. The rookie point man looked great, and the defense was sound. I don't think it was Scotland so much as it was that we actually went for it.

My other half who is a Scot said that he was past being embarreshed by them now. Anyhow he's still celebrating the Hearts win atm.
