Have We Been Told The Truth

A Humble Man

Were the sales really a shock to the club or were they engineered to help to pay for the ground improvements?

We probably will not know until January when Jol will have the Chance to replace the two Spurs players.

I am sure myself of the truth.

"I am sure myself of the truth"-sorry missing your point-don't understand your english.

TonyGilroy

Who knows.

There seem to have been an awful lot of players though at Motspur Park or apparently on their way that we presumably were interested in buying. We don't know why we didn't and maybe we were trying to get them on the cheap.

What makes no sense though is to pay for a ground extension whilst losing Premier League status by not investing adequately in the team.

I don't buy into any conspiracy theories. In an alternative universe we'd have kept both Dems whilst not actually behaving any differently. In that universe Modric stayed with Spurs.

LBNo11

...two spurs midfielders or a new stand? New stand please, it was ever so, the sales of Mullery, Earle, Saha have all helped improve the ground at some stage in our history and it will happen again some day.

The players were part of our history, the stand is part of our future...

Oh-"conspiracy theory"-mention of Modric puts that into into perspective.
Dembele is arguably 90% as good-so priced out .January proves zilch and hopefully new stands will follow?

St Eve

Dembele had an out clause and Dempsey wanted out. We were just incompetent in setting up replacements

Or unlucky or not willing to pay over the odds.

Does it matter? You have made your own mind up clearly.

Or sensible and severely limited in options-what class reasonably priced midfield players went to other prem teams?

I completely agree, MJG. We may both turn out to be a bit pre-judgemental about the OP, but I would not be astonished if he makes out that his view is vindicated, regardless of what happens in January.

And, from a semantic point of view, would a humble man really be giving his opinion, uninvited?

Maybe he just forgot the "IMHO".

That aside, I would imagine we've been told that bit of truth that the club want us to know. There's alway a great deal of the truth that never sees the light of day. It will remain that way.

In a more perfect world, we wouldn't be searching for 35 yr old midfielders (no matter how much experience he has) for cover. In a more perfect world, we would have been able to sign the replacement for Dembélé. It just didn't come off when we would have liked.

The Jol reformation and youth movement will continue as time, finances, and player availability allow.

A bit of school yard bullying going on again.

Even without the Dems going there would be an argument that we did poorly out of the Window. The Dems going, the conspiracy theory that we had no money suggested a month ago plus the new stand. Well conspiracy theory or not. It all proved right. Made me look a right twit again thinking Fulham were past selling the players just as we were on the verge of something special. But sell em we did and replacements are so so. Berbatov being the exception IF he wants to play and IF we can give him the ball in the right areas.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

Fair enough, I apologise to the OP, my response was over the top. If the OP could elaborate on his point, I would be interested to read more.

It is no secret that I do not expect us to have a lot of cash to splash every transfer window, perhaps this is why I am not as downbeat about the outcome as many appear to be.

Really?

And the Fenway web site, Dempsey wobbly and Liverpool faffing were just a smokescreen (all of which probably reduced the fee by £2m)?

And we insisted that Dembele had the release clause written into his contract and had him say he would be interested in a move to Spurs a couple of years ago in preparation?

Isn't it more likely that those we wanted to sign were abducted from Motspur Park by aliens?

HatterDon

I think that we are told the truth by the club -- that every transfer statement printed on the official page is accurate.

I think that if we are told the truth by a "tweeter" or by a sports reporter, then it is just a matter of, "If you print enough things, sooner or later one of them is bound to be right."

Pretty much everything we "know" about transfers in, transfers out, contract negotiations, and player salaries are really conjecture based on what information agents send out, reporters guess at, and tweeters make up out of whole cloth.

When the protagonist of The Spy Who Came In From the Cold was asked if he believed in god, he said something along the lines of, "I believe that the number ?? bus goes to Hammersmith and that it isn't driven by Father Christmas." I sort of believe that about everything about Fulham that isn't an official article.

Yep, I know and don't forget to blame the Fulham board for also covering up Martians landing and taking up residence in the Cottage, with the new design for the Riverside allowing them to hide their spaceship within it which is why it looks so futuristic, just like Men in Black

Why is the theory that we had no money due to the ground improvements such a leap of madness? It is a theory and makes sense. To ridicule it out of sight without making a valid argument just isn't the FOF way.

.. and your addition to the discussion was ...?

I have little doubt that the amount of truth we get from the club on anything that might be a tad embarrassing or dubious is about the same amount of ice we see of an iceberg.
Yep, Deuce told us the truth will come out one day and there are two sides to every story (or was that someone else?), anyways, he was/is not wrong, but really, who cares? Deuce is gone, no longer a Fulham player, ta ta, thanks for all the fish, now, who are we going to get in to play in front of our magnificent (half-filled for the Fizzy league) new stand then?

.. anyways, there IS evidence we let the martians stay a while, they left a statue of their leader when they flew away ... I'm bad

MAF tells Jol Clint & Dempsey will probably go so get the best deal you can for them as we need the money.  Do it as late as possible so it looks like we had no choice and we are not implicated in a conspiracy.

Moussa had an out clause Jol tells Spurs, gives them first sniff on the understanding they take Clint for a good price as well.

Is that such a fanciful scenario?

Just seen Jol on skysports. VERY upset that demspey left on the last day. Very upset with Liverpool but I got the feeling he is most upset with these stupid transfer windows.. How do you replace a top player on the last day.

He was complimentary about Demspey, said everyone wanted him to stay. I believe Jol, he was not acting, appeared very genuine. I believe Demspey threw his toys out of the pram and would really like to know how much of this had to do with just another (scumbag) agent looking for his percentage.
