Andrei Arshavin to Sign?

Been a bit of a seemingly random blow up in the Arshavin rumour. The Daily Star and Daily Express have reported that Fulham are in pole position to sign him for free in January.

Bit random timing, so many have some truth in it, considering that the rumours have stopped recently for all clubs.

Doubt it myself, but firstly, what do you think about the rumour, and secondly, would you want him at our great club?

I would, fantastic little player, just played in the wrong position at Arsenal. Would seriously challenge Ruiz for that behind-striker role and would add a different option/dimension to our player.

MARTIN JOL TO BAG ANDREY ARSHAVIN

14th October 2012 By Tony Stenson

FULHAM manager Martin Jol has Arsenal's restless Russian forward Andrey Arshavin on his wanted list when the transfer window opens again in January.

Arshavin, 31, is in limbo at The Emirates after becoming a bit-part player recently.

And, although several clubs want him back home in his native land, he loves living in London. The lure of playing alongside Dimitar Berbatov, 31, might be just what he needs to get his game back in gear.

Jol admits that he has money to spend following the sales of Moussa Dembele and Clint Dempsey to Tottenham and Arsenal's paltry £1million pound asking price would be chicken feed. Jol said: "The club's chairman Mohamed Al Fayed said before the season you can spend the same amount as last year.

"But we sold for over £30m and only bought for £8m.

"So I am 100 per cent certain he knows there is a lot in the kitty."

Another boost for Jol is that former Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos, 27, is now available for the first time this season after his foot injury.

Sounds like an old story being "reheated" as there's little real news this week. But who knows - when it was first announced in summer that Berba would leave Manu, there was banter on here about Fulham signing him. Most of us didn't believe that one and were proven very wrong.

Max Headroom

we have more than enough attacking midfielders at the moment...

Ruiz, Duff, Richardson, Kacaniklic, Frei, we don't need another

Duff, Richardson, Kaca, Frei, Dejagah, Davies = Wingers.

Ruiz= CAM. Arshavin = CAM. No?

I said it in the summer when we were linked with him, and I'll say it again. No thank you. Do not like him at all.

I don't see what he brings to the party. He's just another of those over-aged players that only block the first team places. I'd rather we give Kasami a run out (he was very impressive for the swiss U21 again), or Kacaniklic, or Frei.

There's no need to sign another old player on high wages when you've got enough players really.

Kacaniklic, Kasami, Ruiz, Duff, Dejagah, Frei, Richardson, Berbatov - that should be enough for now with regards to the attacking mid positions.

And even if we opt to sign another attacking midfielder - I'd rather we try and sign a younger player as there are plenty of interesting ones - for example in the dutch league or in Germany.
Nacer Chadli for instance.

On his day (right position, and motivated) I quite rate him. He is very much a confidence player though, so the conditions would have to be just so.

Nothing to lose if it's a freebie, I guess.

And I always remember being gobsmacked when he scored those 4 goals at Anfield.

MJG

No he would hold back players we already have.
CM and one attacker are the positions we need to look at, we are not short of wide men.

ToodlesMcToot

No way José. His very large wage package would be better spent brining in a quality long term CM replacement or central defender.

LRCN

i really like him but would be a totally unecessary signing.

Why does Mr Fulham always talk such good sense?

Would he be the smallest Fulham player since Bobby Moss?

NogoodBoyo

Please - no more freebie oldies.  The injuries are killing us.
Nogood "common sense, isit" Boyo

MisfitKid

I have to agree with a few here, no thanks.

Have you forgotten Pesky already ?

yet another in a long series of articles that have, as their presupposition, Fulham's role in the Premier League is to take elderly, crocked, or difficult players off the rosters of the "top" clubs.
