My views on Downing are the same as those on Kieran Richardson. A waste of a pair of boots.
At least Richardson plays well at full-back.

Until the inevitable hammy injury that befalls him ever 2 game he plays. Waste of wages in my opinion.

Downing, thanks but no thanks. Liverpool want a fee, how about a coke, 2 packets of crisps and one of last season's Kappa track suits.

Shelvey? Possibly, squad player.
Bent?  not sure

Rather have Kaca !  049:gif

Me too!
Can't imagine there is anything in the story. We are not short of players of this type.

Even so it's a bit silly to say he is a bad player. The problem is that he just isn't all that good.

Compare him to Kacaniklic. Not much in it. In two or three years time? Who knows? But I know which way I'd bet.
Then look at the money. Liverpool paid £20m. for Downing (yeah, I thought that too!) I doubt that they'd be looking for much less than half that now. How much would Kaca fetch if we were stupid enough to want to let him go? £2 - £2.5m?. That's the crazy sort of money difference between an English international and a Swedish one and goes some way in explaining why our transfer policy makes sense.

God forbid. Another wide player is the last thing we need.

I don't mind another wide player but Downing now isn't an improvement in what we have.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

only rumour re: downing is from the mirror is it not? hardly worth worrying about for now. besides he would probably do an alright job with us. he's good at getting into dangerous positions, but his final delivery/shot is generally poor - a bit like Kaca

Baider

I'd rather play Senderos on the wing than Downing

Brown@FFC

If we get Sako, it means we have 4 effective wingers (Kaca, Frei, Sako and Dejagah). Duff should not be included, he is absolutely rubbish. We need a GK, Steklenburg, possibly LB, creative CM and a striker.

Okay, he's not the flying winger he once was, but his defensive contribution at times is invaluable. He's still a great linkup player.

Yeah, only the Mirror are running it. Saying that, all the other tabloids will pick up the story soon...

If I remember right. When we took Frimpong it was with the option of a further season loan. Which suggests he still has another year at Arsenal. There again my memory maybe playing games at the moment, with all the other rumours going on. I wait to be corrected
I believe it was Manolev that the loan had an option for another years.

On twitter - Rumors floating that Liverpool are willing to sell Oussama Assaidi...

Weren't we in for him & Luciano Narsingh.  Rather have either of those two rather than Downing.

Two left wingers, two right wingers. Now Stewart Downing has not become a bad player over night, yes he's not on the greatest form, but we saw what he's capable of, absolutely destroyed us at Anfield. I'd have him at like £5m.

Also bare in mind, how many players have we taken on poor form/poor stint at their previous club and they've had a rich vein of form here? How many players have bought that were criticised/been told they're not good enough any more, and they've done well?

This signing would allow Kerim Frei to get out loan, which he needs, and Stewart Downing would provide very good rotation with Alex Kacaniklic and can also play left back and well as right wing.

do you really believe that an England international would join so he can rotate with Kaca? He would come and expect to be a starter.
Anyway hope he does not come as I feel it would just hamper kaca and frei.

I agree with most of this (although he wouldn't rotate with Kaca in my opinion..)

We rely and are indeed dependent upon being able to find "out of form" players and give them a new lease of life..  Is it a risk?  Yeah, but we need to take them.

Babel....now there is a player who could do with a lift. Perhaps fulham could turn him into the next Boa. Jol fancies him, probably because he is dutch.
Funny, when we had a french manager, we had french players. A dutch manager keeps trying to bring in dutchmen. Than goodness we don't have a Scottish or Irish manager. :005:

No rude responses please, I am a Scot.

He really can't. It's been one of Rodger's many failed experiments.

Zu-Meister

with us being linked with sako, downing and babel, it seems wer certainly interested in getting in another winger.
we have dejagah, kacaniklic, duff, frei, and want to add one more. think that will be fine for the wing department. personally id go for assaidi or chadli, if not sako will be just fine.

Well, we did ok with a couple of No. Irish lads (Hughes & Baird) when we had a No. Ireland manager. Too bad the manager was rubbish.
Its not that I could and others couldn't.
