Only £2.5mill for Roy should he go?

Yet another Grauniad article saying Roy is top of the list - I think we're all bored of those by now, but what did catch my eye (and I think is worth mentioning) is that the fact that the release clause stipulates compensation of a mere £2.5 million.

Am I alone in thinking that this is ludicrously low? As a footballing whole, he is by far our biggest asset (bar Craven Cottage/MAF I s'pose). I'm sure that no one here would let Roy go in preference to a player. Surely if managers were bought and sold more like players he'd be worth £20-30mill?

Reminds me of the fuss Colchester made when Norwich pinched Paul Lambert from them:

He's on a one year rolling contract and that figure of 2.5 million is probably specified in his contract as his release clause. He only signed a new one last year and I'm guessing he didn't want a long term contract so that he could be free to leave for England or a big club if they came calling.

I still think if he's offered the Liverpool job he'll take it, so I'm hoping the scouse board go with Dalglish.

The compensation fee is likely to be the balance of his contract, as he is on a one-year rolling contract (which means that every day he clocks on at Fulham he is contracted to the club for the next twelve months) this indicates that he earns £2.5 million a year as our manager. Similarly, should we want to give him the tin tac, he waould be due a £2.5 million golden handshake. If/when he goes from Fulham to the England job in 2012, the FA will pay Fulham £2.5 million, unless a pay rise has been negotiated in the meantime, in which case it will be more.
Any fool can criticise, condemn and complain, and most fools do.
