I was about to switch off after about 10 minutes but ending up thoroughly ENJOYING the bloke. It was HILARIOUS. That's not being snobbish, it's obviously his STYLE.

I could cope with the different TERMS but we got far too much irrelevant ramble and very little description of what was actually HAPPENING. Maybe he's used to commentating on TV RATHER than radio. It was minutes before we knew that the game had even started "5 minutes gone and no score yet".  The commentator himself seemed to have very little understanding of the GAME and the co-commentator was better.

If GJ was listening, maybe he'd like to try out the aircraft carrier (at last a successor to the wardrobe) and "get up yer PONCE" next time.

Still, a unique and very Fulhamish experience.

D.C. United took a quick break from Major League Soccer action this weekend to take on Fulham F.C. in an international friendly in Jacksonville, Fla., at EverBankField. Featuring a side that has yet to play many minutes together this season, United had to work quickly to build chemistry on the pitch.

In the first 20 minutes, both teams went back and forth as United traded corner kicks for Fulham's free kicks; both teams split possession. Fulham broke through in the 21st minute when United's defense turned the ball over and Moussa Dembele beat the defense and slotted the ball past a charging Andrew Dykstra. United responded with several quality chances of its own, as Collin Martin had a shot on goal in the 40th minute which was blocked for a corner kick, and Michael Seaton beat his defender down the line in the 42nd minute, but his shot was saved.  Fulham responded to United's strong push in the 43rd, when Dembele scored again off a botched clearance from the defense to double the lead going in to halftime.

The second half featured some new faces for United as Steven Birnbaum replaced Bobby Boswell, and Bill Hamid replaced the injured Dykstra in the 52nd minute. DCU came out of the break a little slowly, but almost pulled a goal back in the 66th minute as Taylor Kemp floated a ball to the back post, and Seaton's header rolled inches past the post. Minutes after nearly cutting the score in half, Dembele completed his hat trick as he got behind the defense and passed the ball in the back of the net to increase Fulham's lead to 3-0.

D.C. United is back in MLS action at RFK this Wendesday as it hosts Toronto FC on July 30

It's true the crowd was not all that large.  Don't know what the official capacity is for the Everbank stadium but the missis and I are guessing it was only about 25% filled.  We put a great little crowd together with a nice mixture of expats and yanks.  About 14 of us in all screaming COYW!  All of us had our FFC shirts on and stood to cheer for every goal.  We also stood and clapped when "aircraft carrier" was subbed towards the end.

We also had FFC flag laid out for everyone to see right in front of us.  Almost directly across from us was another nice little group of fans all in white.  We could see their flag waving for every goal.

Most of us left once carry come on but the misses and daughter stayed.  They think the crowd grew to about 50% for Carrie.

One really nice touch I thought was while at the bar Khan and his crew met a really nice family who flew across the pond from London.  The family consisted of two young teen girls who got their photo taken with Khan.  The girls then got to escort the team during their entrance on to the pitch.

Anyone can blend into the crowd.  How will you standout when it counts?
