Fulham defender Brede Hangeland rules out Liverpool move

Jul 16 2010 By Paul Warburton

BREDE Hangeland has rubbished reports he is going to join former boss Roy Hodgson at Liverpool in a £10million move.

In fact, the giant defender thinks that if Fulham get the right new manager and add to the squad – the Whites will go even higher than the heady seventh they achieved two seasons ago.

The Norwegian got 45 minutes under his belt in the 5-0 defeat of Brentford on Wednesday night – and is confident his team won't suffer because Hodgson has jumped ship to take the helm at Anfield.

He said: "Of course we were disappointed to see Roy go - but to be honest I wasn't very surprised.

"He deserves to go to a bigger club and we've been lucky to have him for two-and-a-half years.

"The organisation at Fulham is very good – we have a good working unit, and hopefully if we get the right new manager, we'll keep going."

And although Hangeland admits his ex-boss has transformed him from a good player into one coveted throughout the Premiership – the defender wants to test himself under a new man at Craven Cottage.

He said: "There's always speculation about players moving to clubs, and I would be lying if I didn't say I prefer it when people think I've done better than the opposite.

"But the more years I play, the more I learn to ignore speculation and keep my head down.

"I'm confident I'm good enough to play under another manager.

"If we hadn't been in Europe last season – I think we would have finished higher, and we can put more focus on the league and go even higher this time.

"I'd love to see all the players stay – and even one or two more coming in – and then we'll look even stronger."

Fulham's World Cup players remain on holiday for the trip to Bournemouth tomorrow (Sat) – but caretaker boss Ray Lewington is confident Danny Murphy and Bobby Zamora will have shaken off niggles for the trip to the seaside.

That is great to see.

The big man has a big heart in the right place. I just love the guy. Class act.

I don't like his agent though (Rune Hauge), that's my only concern. I would never trust anything that tosser say in public or otherwise. He should be locked up in a cell next to Harry Redknapp and Joey Barton.

It does give you a nice warm feeling inside!

But we've seen it too many times where players (& managers!) say they are happy then go.

That's me being cynical! But I guess it really does depend on the new manager!
COYW!!! Bring back Rene! But I do like Slav!

Brede is a legend in the making.

He had his chance to move last season but signed a new contract so hopefully he can stick to that and resist a big money move.

Fulham FC News

Ahead of Saturday's pre-season friendly against Bournemouth at Dean Court|, Fulham defender Brede Hangeland spoke of his desire to thrive under a new manager at Craven Cottage this season following Roy Hodgson's departure.

"There's always speculation about players moving clubs," Hangeland explained. "I would be lying if I didn't say I prefer it when people think I've done better than the opposite.

"But the more years I play, the more I learn to ignore speculation and keep my head down. I'm confident I'm good enough to play under another manager here at Fulham.

"Of course we were disappointed to see Roy go but to be honest I wasn't very surprised. We were lucky to have him for two-and-a-half years.

"The organisation at Fulham is very good – we have a good working unit, and hopefully if we get the right new manager, we'll keep going as we have done."

Hangeland is hoping Fulham's squad will be strengthened further before the 2010/11 Barclays Premier League kicks-off on the 14th August, and the Norwegian international captain is targeting another memorable League campaign.

"I'd love to see all the players stay – and even one or two more coming in – and then we'll look even stronger.

"If we hadn't been in Europe last season – I think we would have finished higher, and we can put more focus on the league and go even higher this time."

Great "FEEL GOOD" message for the faithful...... it's brilliant to hear the confidence our giant Viking exudes.

I also got a warm feeling listening to the back end of the Brentford commentary ...."this team is showing their Premiership class" etc etc ...... I know it was only Brentford  :55: but it's not that long ago we would have found it to be a very prickly problem.  :dft008:
Our transition to a minor European Super Team appears to have rubbed into on the squad like "deep heat".

I'll be at Bournemouth tomorrow to see if they can improve on the 0-0 draw of last season.

Lets get the new man in charge and ... push push push forward.  :54:  :54:

Come on you lillywhites!!!

Fully agree, finnster!

I'm glad Brede doesn't decide to speak publicly through his agent or we'd have a very different impression of him. As this article speaks, Brede is pure class and I welcome his talent, good attitude and ambition at Fulham for many years to come.  :sir_roy:
