Shorey completes Albion move

ROBERTO Di Matteo has boosted his defensive options by signing former England full-back Nicky Shorey for an undisclosed fee.

The 29-year-old left-back has made the short move from Villa after passing a medical and penning a two-year contract, plus a further year's option in the club's favour.

Di Matteo now has plenty of competition at left-back, with Slovakian international Marek Cech and former England Under-21 defender Joe Mattock already on board.

Shorey has become Albion's fifth summer signing, following in the footsteps of Pablo Ibanez, Steven Reid, Boaz Myhill and Gabriel Tamas.

"I'm delighted to welcome Nicky to the club," said the head coach.

"He's an experienced, solid, reliable left-back who likes to get forward and get involved.

"I also like the fact he's English and knows what the Premier League is all about.
