Fulham FC contract award makes it a Championship hat trick for Spatial Structures
Spatial Structures, the Gloucester based specialist manufacturer and builder of steel framed, membrane covered buildings has been awarded the contract to build a new indoor training centre  for Fulham Football Club. This will be the third indoor training building constructed for Championship football clubs by Spatial Structures having already completed projects for Wolverhampton Wanderers FC and Brighton & Hove Albion FC.

Work on the new building at Fulham Football Club's Motspur Park training ground will soon be underway and is due for completion in September 2016. The building will be a 62.5 x 81m single span, steel framed structure covering a three-quarter sized 3G training surface. No internal columns ensures that 100% of the 5,000 square metre area will be useable. In addition, the translucent PVC roof will allow the maximum possible amount of natural light into the building during the day.

The £1.2 million contract includes foundations, the superstructure, ventilation and rebound walls. The awarding of the Fulham contract further reinforces Spatial Structures' growing reputation as a leading provider of steel framed, fabric covered buildings for a variety of sports.

Terry Young, Managing Director of Dove Construction which is behind the Spatial Structures brand, commented on the project. "We are delighted to have been chosen for this project. The fact that we have now been chosen by three of the current Championship sides is testament to our growing reputation in the world of football - particularly coming so soon after the announcement of the contract for Chelsea FC's new  indoor pitch structure. The new building will give Fulham Football Club a fantastic all year round, all weather training facility that I am sure will prove to a huge asset".

Commenting on behalf of Fulham Football Club, Darren Preston, Chief Operating Officer commented.

"The Club's training facilities have been based at Motspur Park since 1999 and we are delighted to enter into this next phase of development there. We are looking forward to working with Spatial Structures and are sure that they will deliver a first class facility. We see this development as being an essential part of our plans to maintain Fulham's Category One designation under the Elite Player Performance Plan."

What about work on the Riverside Stand?!

Starts in May. May to September we're setting up the river to be able to build from. Then from September until March 2018 (I think it is) so 18 months, we'll be building.

Who the hell is Darren Preston ? Another new name to me, where did he suddenly appear from ?

He was the club and company secretary for 13 years here before getting a promotion in 2014. Here he is with Mr Khan when Khan went to Costa Rica days after buying the club. Must have impressed Khan.

why so angry? He's been here for a long time is a very good stalwart of the club. While I'd not expect everyone to know back room management maybe just a simple question would have been better without the anger.

Who was that lady putting letters into envelopes when I looked through the office window the other day? Never seen her before. Absolutely outrageous that the Club should appoint a new member of staff without personally introducing her to every supporter. Typical of....etc...etc...etc...(continue until men in white coats arrive.)

Wow , a new indoor training centre to improve an already good training facility.
Hope it is really necessary and that a contract clause has been included to guarantee that it results in improvement to the team's defensive performances.

Please tell me that this structure has sufficient to height to cross a ball.......

I could be wrong but I think the one we have there at the minute over the 3G pitch is 'seasonal' in the fact that it has to come down in the summer months due to the local housing. I cant remember the exact reasons why but it could be the way it looms over the gardens or something.
This isn't sufficient for the first team to train in (I think it has small walls separating it into smaller pitches??? long time ago) but I wonder how they got around the planning for a 'super structure'? I'd assume it will go in the same place?

i've heard the name but "why the hell" is the COO not on the board of directors?

sounds like COO may be a bit of an misnomer,

in any case it's another bloody accountant  086.gif :005:

Very few COO's sit on the BoD (in the same way that CTO's, CHRO's, etc do not sit on BoD's). They may sit on an ExCom or similar but BoD's mainly comprise non-salaried, fee paid appointees. When in attendance at the BoD even the roles of the CEO and CFO are limited, mainly to the provision of information and opinion to the other Directors; their presence on the BoD usually excludes decision making authority at BoD level.  This is to ensure strong and independent governance.  Therefore no misnomer.

I hope there is a clause in the contract that insists Spatial Structures use only British steel.  If not. it should be added.

Leon, "super structure" is just construction jargon and refers to anything that is above the ground (or a defined baseline), no matter how super it is.

Bronaldinho

All good news.

Khan's revamping the Jags setup out in the US too and the USA pundits say the plans he has out there will provide them with the best facilties for future.

Looks like he's also revamping our setup to help us.

I know a lot of people have hated on him, but he's constantly funding the club - New Stadium, Training complex, continually funded managers in windows too.

We're fortunate to have that backing - I know MAF was loved and adored by all, but his time came to an end and he didn't invest in the end because he wanted out.

Improved training facilities are never a bad thing, especially all weather types.  They are good selling points for the club when attracting new faces to the teams, young or older.  It's also good to hear the Riverside project is getting uder way too.  I can remember when you could walk from Hammersmith End to Putney End (or reverse) along the terraces during a game - the half time shift as it were, or stand by the Thames with a gale behind you protected only by advertising hoardings and those pesky flagpoles  Mr Trinder gave us all.....

It seems Mr Khan is doing his best to lift the club in the right direction.  Let's hope the playing staff don't let him down.

Oh fair enough.

I would still think it is as big as our current one though and would pose the same problems for planning

What is a translucent PVC roof -- a bubble dome?
