Fernando Amorebieta tells Fulham he wants to leave - Sky sources

Fulham centre-half Fernando Amorebieta has told the club he wants to leave and will not play for them again, according to Sky sources.

The Venezuelan international informed manager Slavisa Jokanovic of his decision on Monday - the first day of pre-season - at the club's Motspur Park training ground.

Amorebieta, who has been capped 15 times by his country, is currently contracted to Fulham until the end of next season.

The 31-year-old has spent time on loan at Middlesbrough during the past two seasons, making 22 appearances for Aitor Karanka's side who were promoted to the Premier League last season.

He was expected to spend the whole of the 2015/16 season with Boro, but his loan spell was cut short in February.

Amorebieta joined Fulham from Athletic Bilbao in 2013 and has made over 50 appearances for the Sky Bet Championship side.

He spent 10 seasons at Bilbao prior to his move to Craven Cottage and helped the La Liga club reach the finals of the Europa League in 2012 and Copa del Rey in 2008 and 2012.

Good riddance, can't concentrate, constantly out of position and a red card waiting to happen.

A rare bit of good news coming out of Fulham for a change.

I will be as good as I can be and when I cross the finishing line I will see what it got me

Right, lets him find a club who are willing to pay us a few quid for him and move him on quickly so that we can replace him well before the start of the new season.

"red card waiting to happen" god i hate that phrase, at least he showed a darn sight more commitment than some of our players last season.

I think he got a Red Card on purpose just to get off the pitch.

A competent player, would have been happy with him as a 3rd choice centre back or even 1st choice left back next season.

Some say "red card waiting to happen"... to me he was one of our only players who showed the spirit and aggression you need at this level, competing with the likes of Chris Martin (Derby not Coldplay)

But as the last of our premiership players, and given he originally signed on a free, he was probably on £30k p/w or more, and I'll concede he's not worth that much

Of course worth noting that currently this rumour seems to be complete bulls%^t anyway

Great news! It will free up some wage bill to pay for a footballer instead of a headless chicken

Some harsh comments on here... I viewed him as steady rather than incompetent, and someone who wasn't afraid to put it about a bit rather than give up or not give a toss (rare commodities in Fulham players over these past few seasons!). That said, I won't be losing sleep if he does go.
