IMO we have the makings of a very good team
All we needed was ahalf decent striker
We waited all transfer window and got...... martin.... a man i had been warned was awful

He isn't awful, he defies belief. In build up he contributes less than mitro did, in the box he stands rooted to the spot and makes no attempt to get in front of the defender at the near post,  and worst of all confronted with an open goal but genuinely the world's simplest chance.... nowhere near.... at least alukos chances were on the move or the ball  coming at pace to him.... martins was so easy a blind man would have converted the chance.

He should be sent straight back. He is another hopeless signing and whoevers idea he was needs to be removedtoo.
If the manager picks him next time i will definitely revise my supportive opinion. There is no excuse for martin being at the club let alone starting

Woodrow was poorish the last two outings but remains the best we have, with mobility and 100% effort. The others are not doing it, give the young man a few games to show what he can do. It is unfair to throw him in for an odd game here or there.

Agreed Woodrow should be given the chances eey and ore have been given. If not Humphreys should get the nod
CHRIS MARTIN IS SO BAD,  WE NOW PRAISE HIM FOR MAKING A RUN.

Baszab

I watched him closely after he was subbed
No handshakes or interaction with any other players
Hardly raised a sweat
Looked like he had jogged around a practise game for an hour to earn his wages
Utterly disgraceful contribution
Start with Smith and have Woodrow as a sub

0001.gif So you are starting to pick out the players to blame because it sounds like you've made your mind up before he even played for the club. Firstly he hardly ever played as a lone striker role for Derby when he was banging in the goals with his right foot left foot, so why our Coach thinks he can play as a lone striker is beyond me. So I don't know who these people who warned you about him, were they Forest fans.

Nose - surely you're beginning to agree with my verdict from December 2015 - SJ not up to it - not the right manager for us at this point in our team ?

peaty

Chris Martin's last goal in a UK-based (Championship + Cups) game was in April 2016. Since then, he has played 20 non-international matches without scoring.

This is a player with a problem. Not sure I can describe this goal drought as epic. But it ain't small.

However, before last season, he had two seasons of banging them in: he scored an average of 19 goals for Derby across 14/15 and 13/14.

I think Martin can come good for us.

Question is, how can Slav & Co help him to become the player he used to be? And how quickly can they do it?

FWIW: he might still be off the pace, but I've seen an improvement in his link up play since his debut for us.

We don't have another striker at the club with proven ability to bang in 20 a year. So however Slav & Co do it (they might drop him for a while...), Martin is our main hope. At least until window opens in Dec/Jan.

My view is that we need to get behind the boy big time.

@jolslover

"in build up contributes less than Mitro did" -- Mitroglou is a very good striker, If we had him in our team now we would be top 6 im sure of it.

Is it worth me saying again that the board/transfer people have let the fans down terribly.

You can't allow a partnership like McCormack/Dembele to leave with just a desperate loan move for an unwanted Derby striker to fill the void!

Again, every one of us knew we would have a massive issues up front, literally all of us knew they needed to be replaced with a decent striker or two, yet the 'experts' allowed us to take the desperate Martin on loan, with a reported £9m during the next 12 months to follow.

If true, our crack recruitment, stat based, specialists are without doubt utter crap at their jobs.

And so it starts......
Its not that I could and others couldn't.
Its that I did and others didn't.

Give him a chance - he's got a decent record.

It seems he's a bit like poor old Frank large when he  came to the club, suffering in comparison to Ross and Moussa, jut as Large suffered in comparison to his  predecessor Allan Clarke.

Give the bloke a  chance - he could come good, just as the team can - and start winning games.

But why does he deserve special treatment over our other strikers. He has done absolutely nothing to earn such blind faith

Give the both of these players a run if cauley starts then the young man on the bench, send martin back pronto as a bloody awful striker and also send smith with him as a free gift to derby!!

Mince n Tatties

As I stated on another thread, the manager should have
made sure he took the penalty, if he stuck it away it's a confidence booster, if he didn't then so what we missed it anyway. If the Boss thinks he good enough as lone striker, then why didn't he make him take it. Doesn't
make sense.

actually i make up mind entirely on what i see just thought i would add some background.
he is clearly miles from being properly fit (I hope that isn't the best he is), lacks effort and is stationary in the box and movement in the box is a pre-requisite for a centre forward. he may be unused to playing the lone striker but he is proffesional and should be doing miles better.... i have no problem with aluko's effort but is dreadful at the moment and i expect him to come good, i have no problem with smith, he is what he is and tries hard.... martin has a clearly unfounded reputation and is one of those that IMO will not come good and we would be better off getting rid now!
I already thought he was poor but the open goal miss was the clincher, he had a spectacularly easy chance and even had time for a touch, his body shape was wrong and no matter how low on confidence, if you can't get that one then really you are surplus to requirements.... if he was trying harder, or quicker or mobile in the box attem, pting to get near post occasionally I would back off... we can get rid now, or waste a season with him and wonder why we didn't act sooner.

sorry to disagree but i only want what is best for the team it ain;t him.  i do not believe the manager chose him!

sj is brilliant... the team is performing well.... two open goals and two penalties..we should have been out of site. the truth is khan and his useless cronies mac, rigg and kline have sabotaged the team with insane purchasing policy. joca wanted certain players in place for pre season and they refused, they sabotaged his selections and only allowed third and fourth choices. if we had have allowed joca the freedom to buy who he wanted when he wanted we would now be top. the problem is the board and owner... the owner that said explicitly we will do whatever it takes. well that was when he wanted us to buy season tickets... the owner rarely shows up leaves at half time and shows spectaculare indifference to the club.

Joca is fighting with one hand tied behind his back.... i well remember his comments on radio london when he pretty much said as much!

Funky Fulham Dave

It's little wonder that the Scotland national team are 497th in the FIFA rankings if Chris Martin is their first choice striker.

Mince n Tatties

497..lol 44th they are.
And I wouldn't get too cocky just yet, they might stuff us
in November.
