Liverpool transfer news and rumours: 'Reds leading race to sign Fulham starlet Ryan Sessegnon'
PLUS: Liverpool are set to battle Manchester United for Nottingham Forest's Ben Brereton AND Jamie Redknapp outlines who the Reds must replace if they are to taste success under Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool are in pole position to land Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham.

Squawka say the Reds enquired about Sessegnon in January, while the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenaham are also interested in the 16-year-old.

Fulham are said to want £15million for the highly-rated left-back.

Jurgen Klopp is in the market for a left-back, with versatility man James Milner currently filling in there and Alberto Moreno simply not good enough to fill the role.

Player was 'seduced' to move to Fulham, but they wanted to pay in installments

The weeks following a transfer window always have post-mortems on deals which never happened, and Sergi Enrich to Fulham has been covered extensively in the Spanish media.

The story seems to get more dramatic each time it's told, and Enrich's recent brilliant form for Eibar is obviously encouraging coverage of how he almost moved to England.

Mundo Deportivo look at the situation on Tuesday and say Enrich was 'seduced' by the idea of signing for Fulham, despite them being a Championship club. Fulham then put €10m 'on the table' for Enrich, but wanted to pay it in instalments.

The Spanish club's response was 'resounding', a big defiant Spanish NO.

Having annoyed Eibar, Fulham now had a more difficult task, and the Spanish club insisted any deal would have to see Enrich deposit the clause himself, leading to tax issues which couldn't be resolved in the time left on deadline day.

The latter part of Mundo Deportivo's story was confirmed to Sport Witness on deadline by a source close to the possible deal, so perhaps it all stacks up.

If Fulham had been quicker, and not annoyed Eibar by trying to sign their best player for instalments, then Enrich, named in this week's European Team of the Week by Gazzetta dello Sport, could be theirs.

Ream: Adding Consistency

Following the narrow 1-0 defeat against Birmingham City on Saturday afternoon, Tim Ream admitted that the red card was a "game changer" but was quick to highlight that the Whites were not at their best despite the sending off.

"It's just one of those things isn't it," Ream reflected. "It is a game changer but I don't think we were playing particularly well before that.

"In the second half we started to do a little bit better but overall it just wasn't there and it wasn't a good game for us."

"They were hitting a lot of long balls and were very aggressive on the press. It was one of those things where we had to figure out how to overcome those two things. For whatever reason we were unable to do that."

After four league games away from home, the American defender is looking forward to getting back to Craven Cottage after a full week of training.

With two games in the Championship prior to the Emirates FA Cup tie with Tottenham Hotspur, Ream wants Fulham to solidify their standing in the league and look to push up the table in search of the Play-Off spots.

"Right now the league is important," he stated. "We are going to get a good week of recovery in just like the past week.

"We have to really focus on what is at hand in this coming stretch. We need to do a good job of solidifying our place in the league and pushing up the table. For whatever reason as a team we cannot get on a run right now and that is what we really need.

"Lately I have felt very confident on and off the ball and the team has been playing well so it is easy. When the team is playing well it is easy for guys to come in and slot in.

"A strength of my game is moving the ball. The possession style that we play suits me perfectly and it also fits the majority of the squad.

"That is why different guys can slot in game by game. For me personally it's been a confidence boost, something I can hold on to and do really well."

Fulham Awarded EFL Code Of Practice

Fulham are delighted to have been awarded the EFL Code of Practice in recognition of the Club's success in providing an environment that is inclusive for all employees and supporters alike.

First piloted in the 2014/15 season, the EFL's Code of Practice represents a nationwide commitment by football clubs to improve equality and inclusion across all areas of the game. In just two years since its introduction, 30 EFL clubs, including Fulham, passed the nationally recognised assessment.

The EFL works closely with clubs to ensure that all spectators attending games at Craven Cottage can enjoy their matchday experience in a safe and friendly environment and clubs across all three EFL divisions have been working hard to set high standards for equality in professional football.

Clubs are evaluated across all areas of a football club, including matchday operations, general operations, community trust, youth development, attending match day fans and the first team. Each club successfully passed an independent assessment across 12 different areas of operation, ensuring good practice extends to all employees, spectators and other people engaged with the club.

The EFL Code of Practice was devised as part of the game's commitment to the English Football Inclusion and Anti-Discrimination Action Plan. It helps clubs to position themselves at the heart of each community by embedding the fundamental principles of inclusion and equality throughout the whole of the business, setting accountability at the highest level.

Shaun Harvey, EFL CEO, added: "It's important that clubs recognise and understand equality and inclusion and implement the right practices to ensure that the game in this country continues to be a game for all.

"The EFL Code of Practice supports clubs by ensuring their policies and procedures are up to date and fully compliant and I am delighted to see so many of our clubs making real tangible progress in these areas.

"We will continue to raise awareness of the measures that can be taken and I am hopeful more and more football clubs will go through this process."

LIVERPOOL REPORTEDLY KEEN TO FIGHT OFF MAN UNITED AND ARSENAL FOR £15M-RATED CHAMPIONSHIP MAN

A host of Premier League super clubs are chasing Fulham wonderkid Ryan Sessegnon, according to Squakwa.

Liverpool reportedly lead a number of top flight clubs including bitter rivals Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in the race for the 16-year-old.

He's yet another product of the Cottagers' extremely impressive academy, with the west London outfit said to be expecting a £15 million fee for their latest young star.

Jurgen Klopp is looking for a new left back, making use of the versatile James Milner in the role at the moment, reluctant to give Alberto Moreno another chance. Quality options in that particular berth are reasonably hard to come by these days, while the teenager would also help fill part of the homegrown quota in the Premier League.

Sessegnon has burst onto the scene this season in fine style, becoming the FA Cup's youngest goalscorer with a goal against Cardiff City, and is able to operate all the way up the left-hand side.

He could be one of a number of Fulham youngsters stolen by Premier League sides, such as Patrick Roberts who joined Manchester City a year and a half a go, then joining Scottish champions Celtic on an 18-month loan deal to continue his development.

Fulham defender explains improved form at Craven Cottage
Last season, the west Londoners were much more vulnerable defensively but, under the Serbian, Ream and co have looked much more solid

Lukas Jutkiewicz battles with Tim Ream (Photo: Birmingham Mail)

Fulham defender Tim Ream believes his form has improved because of the way the Whites play under Slavisa Jokanovic.

Last season, the west Londoners were much more vulnerable defensively but, under the Serbian, Ream and co have looked much more solid.

And, with Fulham playing the ball out from the back, the American believes it has lifted his confidence and he is playing to his strengths.

Ream said: "Playing the ball out from the back is a strength of my game and the possession style that we play suits me personally and suits a majority of the squad which is why guys can slot in and out from game to game.

"It's been a confidence boost and something I can hang on to and do well.

Tim Ream takes on Jerome Sinclair (Photo: Birmingham Mail)

"Lately, I've felt very confident both on and off the ball. The team has been playing well so it's always easy for guys to come in when the team is playing well.

"For whatever reason, as a team, we can't get on a run though."

Fulham face Wigan on Saturday before hosting Nottingham Forest on Tuesday and Ream knows those two games are vital in order to get a play-off push back on track.

He added: "Right now, the league is important so we have to get a good recovery in.

"We have to focus on what we're doing there and the two games that are coming up and do a good job in solidifying our place in the league."

Stefan Johansen shares what Brendan Rodgers told him after taking over at Celtic

Stefan Johansen left Celtic to join Fulham last summer, and he has been in impressive form since moving from Glasgow.

Stefan Johansen has told Get West London that Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers was quick to write off his chances at Celtic, after taking charge.

Rodgers was appointed as Celtic manager last summer, and quickly set about making alterations to the squad at Parkhead.

While Rodgers gave many of Celtic's players a chance to impress, he was quick to offload Johansen to Fulham.

And Johansen claims that Rodgers decided early on that he didn't have a future in Glasgow under his guidance.

"I didn't sign a new contract in the summer, and didn't play at Celtic," the central midfielder said.

"The manager at Celtic (Brendan Rodgers) said it was obvious I needed to sort out a new club."

Johansen had an excellent first season at Celtic back in 2014, but his form tailed off during his second campaign with the Bhoys.

The Norwegian seems to have rediscovered his top form since moving to Fulham, though.

Johansen has been one of the Cottagers' best players over the the first of the season, scoring five goals in his first 16 Championship appearances.

Liverpool deal for coveted star could be on the cards: This would be a massive coup
LIVERPOOL are reportedly leading the race for Fulham sensation Ryan Sessegnon.

But Jurgen Klopp will need to cough up £15m if he wants to secure his signature, Squawka claim.

It's suggested Jurgen Klopp made an enquiry for the 16-year-old in January.

However, the former Borussia Dortmund chief isn't the only boss chasing his signature.

Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham are all keen.

Sessegnon won't hit 17 until May.

He'll then pen his first professional contract.

Squawka reckon Fulham would be open to cashing in, but would prefer to have a loan-back deal.

That could make life difficult for Spurs and Liverpool, though.

Both clubs reportedly want to retain the defender's services if they can seal a deal.

Ryan Sessegnon's versatility means he would be perfect for Tottenham under Pochettino

The young Fulham defender has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

As reported by the London Evening Standard earlier this season, Tottenham Hotspur continue to monitor Fulham left-back Ryan Sessegnon.

Some Spurs fans were hoping a January deal could be struck, similar to the one that ultimately brought Dele Alli to White Hart Lane from MK Dons, but that was not to be, leaving Sessegnon's long-term future unclear.

Still only 16, Sessegnon is tipped to have a very bright future in the game, and while Fulham fans will think otherwise, he would be the perfect long-term addition to Tottenham's squad.

While Danny Rose is the undisputed number one left-back for club and country right now, the future of Ben Davies looks unclear, meaning there could be a spaced opening up as second-choice at White Hart Lane.

Given the sheer number of games Tottenham play these days, with European football added to their domestic duties, that would enable Sessegnon to get his fair share of minutes in the short term while ensuring he has time to settle in North London.

Then there is the fact that the teenager is equally comfortable on the left wing as he is further back, meaning that he could be the perfect player for a number of different formations.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has utilised three central defenders with wing-backs at times this season, and Sessegnon's ability further forward means he would fit that formation perfectly.

Then there is a lack of quality out-and-out wingers at Tottenham right now, meaning Sessegnon could also be used in an attacking role if and when required.

At 16, the Fulham player has years to develop his game and find his best role, but Tottenham should move fast, because it looks to be only a matter of time before he moves to one of England's top clubs.

Nominate Your EFL Supporter Of The Year

As part of the 2017 EFL Awards celebrations, the EFL is once again looking to recognise supporters that have demonstrated extraordinary dedication to their club through the Supporter of the Year Award.

Supporters are being invited to nominate fellow fans that have gone above and beyond the call of duty to support their club by submitting suggestions online via EFL Awards SOTY Entry.

The winner will be announced at the annual EFL Awards 2017 on Sunday, 9 April 2017 at the London Hilton on Park Lane, where they will receive the EFL Supporter of the Year trophy.

It is anticipated to be another fantastic evening, celebrating excellence both on and off the pitch, with the football community given the opportunity to recognise the stars of 2017 across 14 different categories.

Entries must include the nominee's name, supported club, and details of what makes them a great fan of their club, including why you think they should win the award.

Nominations are invited for fans of any current EFL club. A winner for each division will be decided, with the overall Supporter of the Year announced at the star-studded evening in April, which recognises and celebrates excellence both on and off the field.

Young Bristol City fan Oskar Pycroft was named the Supporter of the Year at The Football League Awards 2016.

The seven-year-old received the award at the gala ceremony at Manchester Central in front of over 600 guests from clubs, sponsors and the football industry. Oskar, who has cerebral palsy, never misses a Bristol City home match and after winning a long battle to walk, he fulfilled a lifelong dream of leading out his beloved Robins in a fixture against Preston North End in January 2016. His inspirational story won support from fans of all corners of the EFL.

Oskar had already been named the Supporter of the Year for the Championship, but beat competition for the overall award from two other divisional winners – Colchester United supporter Tommy Leggett (League 1) and Yeovil Town fan Pat Custard (League 2).

Nominations close at 12pm on Monday 20th February 2017.

Are Those Boots Going To Be Hung Up?

Somebody who surprised many by agreeing to wear our coveted shirt could, so it seems, be ready to hang his boots up.

Passing through on the BBC Sports feed this afternoon was a little something relating to Dimitar Berbatov.

The Bulgarian, now 36-years-of-age, isn`t attached to a club since leaving PAOK Salonika at the end of last season.

It seems that the Bulgarian was hopeful of making a return to the Premier League having spoken openly about doing so.

However, with both the summer and the January transfer windows having closed, Berbatov has had no offers deemed to be acceptable.

With no offers on the table and not tied to a contract, Berbatov is a free agent and could join the lucrative exodus to the Chinese Super League.

But it seems that the Bulgarian is a little reticent to put his body through the rigours of another season and is considering retirement.

We`ll endeavour to keep you abreast of the situation if we hear of any further developments.

TWO FULHAM PLAYERS WHO MUST BE DROPPED FOR THEIR GAME AGAINST WIGAN

Sky Bet Championship side Fulham will be looking to bounce back against Wigan Athletic, if they hope to break into the play-offs, after a momentum-halting defeat to Birmingham City.

A scrappy game at St Andrew's which was mired in controversy following Ryan Fredericks' red card for a reckless tackle on Craig Gardner saw Gianfranco Zola earn his first win as Birmingham City manager.

Lukas Jutkiewicz's effort in the 75th minute proved to be the difference between the two sides in an extremely tight encounter.

Although the defeat has halted Fulham's hopes of surging into the play-offs, Slavisa Jokanovic will be hoping his side can return to winning ways as they look to put pressure on the teams above.

Wigan Athletic's arrival at the Craven Cottage could be the perfect opportunity for Slavisa Jokanovic's side to bounce back and prove their play-off credentials.

FLW writer Elliott Wheat-Bowen has identified TWO Fulham players who must be dropped for their game against Wigan.

CHRIS MARTIN

At one point, it appeared that the arrival of Chris Martin on loan could be a stroke of genius for Slavisa Jokanovic and Fulham as the Scottish striker has already scored nine times this season.

Although Chris Martin is Fulham's leading goalscorer in the Championship, the 28-year-old has become a liability for the play-off hopefuls.

After Martin threatened to pull out of a Championship game against Reading and demanded that he returned to parent club Derby County, questions have been raised about the Scotsman's loyalty and commitment to the club.

Since the incident, Chris Martin has appeared distracted and unable to rediscover his goal scoring form as he has now gone three games without a goal.

The negative impact that Chris Martin has had on the side with his questionable behaviour has had a negative impact on the the team's spirit and togetherness.

He has also missed numerous penalties lately.

Fulham's lack of striker options earlier in the season saw Slavisa Jokanovic cornered and seemingly coerced into playing the want-a-way striker.

However, now that Gohi Cyriac has joined the side, Jokanovic may drop Martin who increasingly appears to be a bad influence and instead give Cyriac the opportunity to prove his worth against Wigan.

LUCAS PIAZON

Even though there are no questions about the Brazilian playmaker's natural talent or ability, Lucas Piazon seemingly had an off day against Birmingham.

Piazon who was playing in the left midfield role was unable to have an impact on the game or link up effectively with starlet Ryan Sessegnon which saw the pair substituted for Floyd Ayite and Shaun Malone in the 60th minute.

Given the opportunity, Floyd Ayite proved to be one of Fulham's brightest players in the last thirty minutes of the tight encounter.

The Togo forward did wastefully fire wide a golden opportunity in the dying moments, however, despite the miss Ayite did make a positive impact when he came off the bench.

On reflection, Floyd Ayite's performance will have given Slavisa Jokanovic plenty of food for thought and the Serbian manager may look to drop Piazon temporarily to give Ayite a chance to continue his good form for a string of games.
