This Celtic title-winner would be an ideal replacement for star man at Fulham

Fulham attacking midfielder Tom Cairney has grabbed the headlines for all the right reasons this season, with the Scotland international potentially helping in returning Premier League football to Craven Cottage.

If the west London outfit do happen to fail in their play-off campaign then it's likely a top-flight club will come sniffing, and persuade the midfielder to pack his bags to leave the Cottagers.

In case that scenario does occur, then manager Slaviša Jokanović needs a replacement lined up and I can't think of anyone more perfect than youth graduate Patrick Roberts.

The £4.25 million-rated winger is one of the more recent youngsters to successfully fulfil their career from the renowned academy at Fulham, and he didn't last long in the capital before Manchester City snapped his services up two years ago.

Roberts hasn't had his way in the northern city which meant he was forced to move out on loan somewhere to develop further by getting more minutes on the pitch, subsequently agreeing an 18-month loan deal at Celtic in January 2016 – which expires this summer.

The England under-20 international has absolutely smashed the Premiership across the border with his twelve assists and seven goals, replicating the creative touch that earned him a move to the ex-Premier League champions.

Saying that, it seems unlikely Roberts will feature in the first-team at Man City on a regular occurrence next campaign.

That means he will need to search for a new club and I think Fulham should snatch him up if Tom Cairney leaves.

Whether the 2010 Europa League finalists be in the Championship or Premier League next year, Patrick Roberts will always give you the hope a goal will be scored if he's starting.

As well as that, he's a firm fan favourite at Fulham and he'll always be welcomed back to the team if Slaviša Jokanović went in for the swoop – the only off-putting attributes towards bringing Patrick Roberts back to Craven Cottage is his potential price tag.

Sheff Utd set to beat Leeds & Fulham to in-demand winger

Sky Sports reports that Sheffield United have agreed a fee of £300,000 with Hartlepool United to sign winger Nathan Thomas. The 22-year-old was one of the shining lights in what was ultimately a dreadful season for Hartlepool, who were relegated into the Vanarama National League.

The Northern Echo reports that Leeds United have also monitored the progress of the goalscoring wide man. Fulham are another side said to have rivalled Sheffield United for his signature. It would however appear that the player is destined for Bramall Lane in the very near future.

Thomas has been on the books at Victoria Park ever since making the move from Mansfield Town in January of last year. He made a decent impression last season, but ultimately found himself to be substituted on quite a regular basis. Although his side were ultimately relegated, he has been a big positive factor to come out of Hartlepool United this season. He helped himself to nine goals, including a brace earlier in the campaign in the 2-1 away success at Yeovil Town.

Many other Sky Bet Championship clubs are said to have paid a particularly keen interest in the forward, who is set to leave his current club. With relegation confirmed after Newport County's last winner against Notts County, money is much tighter and a star asset such as Thomas could be sold to help raise much needed funds.

Transfer gossip: QPR and Fulham linked with winger

QPR and Fulham have again been linked with Hartlepool winger Nathan Thomas.

The Sun claim both west London clubs have been monitoring the 22-year-old along with Wolves.

It comes after reports Middlesbrough and Sheffield United have each had a £300,000 bid for the player accepted.

Rangers and Fulham were linked him last year too but did not show any concrete interest.

THE INDUSTRIOUS STOKE MIDFIELDER WHO COULD REPLACE TOM CAIRNEY AT FULHAM IF HE LEAVES

Fulham have been one of the surprise packages in the Championship this season, bursting from bottom half into the Play-Offs with a late surge.

Under the guidance of Slavisa Jokanovic, Fulham have surprised many this season.

The Cottagers just beat off relegation last season, so not many would've predicted their meteoric rise to promotion candidates.

Along the way, Fulham have caught the eye too, playing some brilliant, attacking, free-flowing football, sweeping some teams away and claiming the joint title of the league's top scorers in the process.

With this great season, has come speculation over the futures of their star players, with Tom Cairney taking most of the plaudits and attracting the most attention.

Premier League, Burnley and top-flight new boys, Newcastle, are both believed to hold an interest in signing the midfield playmaker, and Fulham could be resigned to losing to former Blackburn man in the coming months – especially if they miss out on promotion.

Finding a like-for-like replacement for Cairney will be near impossible, and no doubt out of Fulham's price range, so they will have to go slightly left-field for a replacement.

One man who seems the perfect man to replace him is Charlie Adam.

The former Liverpool man has fallen out of favour at the Bet365 Stadium, and Adam could be one of the casualties of a Mark Hughes summer clear out.

Even at 31, Adam still has an awful lot to offer and would be a perfect fit in a Fulham side that loves to play with the ball on the floor.

Technically, Adam is one of Stoke's best players, his range of passing general midfield play would certainly improve the Fulham side.

In the attacking third, Adam brings cutting edge, with the ability to unlock a defence, and he also has the eye for the spectacular, just like Cairney.

Although age may not be on his side, the Scot seems to be a like-for-like replacement for Cairney.

Go For It Jokanovic – This 22-year Old Italian Defender Could Be A Sensible Signing For Fulham This Summer

Francesco Vicari

Why Fulham Should Sign Francesco Vicari In The Summer

With their excellent Championship campaign still going ahead, Fulham are already looking to the summer and are thinking about completing a deal for SPAL centre-back Francesco Vicari.

Fulham's attacking play has been tremendous this season and their carefree approach has led to them being the joint top scorers in the league this season.  That swashbuckling style, however, can often land them in trouble at the back, so a typically robust Italian defender could be just what the side needs.

Tim Ream's experience at the back has been important this season but they'll need more than one calming influence back there next season, whichever league they are in. Vicari could provide that with the 22-year-old former Novara man having now played 100 first team games, all in an environment where defence is king. Not surprisingly, Vicari has received a couple of red cards in his time in Serie B too but one straight red in 100 games plus a dismissal for two bookings is probably not as bad as it could have been.

Tomas Kalas has been playing regularly alongside Ream this term but is only on loan from Chelsea. With the Czech Republic defender due back at Stamford Bridge at the end of the month, Fulham will need to act quickly to replace him and preferably on a permanent basis. Slavisa Jokanovic would be all too aware that, should they manage to keep most or all of their attacking talent, the forward areas will take care of themselves. He'd know that it's the central defensive area which needs special attention.

Austrian Michael Madl may stay at the club but doesn't appear to be the long-term answer at centre-back while exactly the same can be said of Ragnar Sigurdsson. With this in mind, along with the impending departure of Thomas Kalas, Fulham may need to bring in more than one centre-back for the challenges next season and so they cannot afford to pass up a good opportunity.

Players like Vicari by their very nature are enigmas. On one hand, they may not handle the speed of English football and can turn out to be disastrous signings. On the other though, they may prove to be defensive rocks and can be bought for very small fees. If Fulham sign Vicari, they could be bagging a great value defender.

Fulham must make a move for this 15-goal Derby County ace, should Cairney opt to leave

It will take some time for Fulham to get over the disappointment of their play-off semi-final defeat to Reading, with Slavisa Jokanovic's side falling short in their quest for Premier League football, despite defying the odds to finish inside the Sky Bet Championship's top-six.

With just eight-fixtures of the season remaining, Fulham found themselves eight-points behind Leeds United, but a magnificent run of form saw the Cottagers finish the season five-points ahead of the Whites.

Key to that run of form, and Fulham's impressive performances across the season, has been Tom Cairney, who has scored 13 goals for the Cottagers this campaign.

Cairney added 11 assists to his goal tally, and with Fulham's failure to gain promotion, there is plenty of speculation surrounding the 26-year old's future.

Should Cairney leave Craven Cottage, Fulham are likely to land a handsome transfer-fee and they must invest it wisely to replace their best player.

Derby County's Tom Ince is a player that Jokanovic could look to lure to Craven Cottage, with the 25-year old one of the Championship's most high-profile players.

Cairney and Ince play in different roles within their respective teams, so should Fulham make a move for the Derby man, he wouldn't be seen as a direct replacement for Cairney.

However, Ince has 15 goals and six assists across all competitions this season, which shows he could replace Cairney's creativity at Fulham, should the Scottish international opt for a move away.

Ince has been a shining light in a disappointing campaign for Derby, and the Rams would not let him go on the cheap, but with Fulham certain to land a multi-million pound deal from Cairney's potential departure, he would be well within their price range.

Norwich City and Fulham both interested in Belgium based player, building blocks of transfer

Norwich City and Fulham are both keeping an eye on a player, or players, in Belgium. During the winter transfer window Fulham approached several players in Belgium football before finally signing Cyriac at the end of the window.

Fulham have been more active than Norwich in Belgium, bringing in several players over the past few years. The league is cheaper to recruit from than France's Ligue 1, so there's often a greater chance of a bargain.

Anderlecht Online report that both Fulham and Norwich will have an official watch the match between Charleroi and Anderlecht tonight, an important game in Belgium's end of season championship play-offs.

The Belgian league splits in the second half of the season and the overall winner is decided by a series of play-offs.

There's no indication who either Championship club have got their eye on, but both Fulham and Norwich will be setting the building blocks of summer transfers, and seem to have a Belgium based player on the agenda.

For Fulham, especially, that is really no surprise.

Danny Guthrie being released by Blackburn. Wouldn't mind him as a backup option

He is way below the standard required here.

West Ham linked with move for Tom Cairney

West Ham, along with Newcastle and Southampton, have expressed an interest in Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney, according to a report from the Northern Echo.

Cairney has emerged as one of the best midfielders in the Championship and has subsequently attracted a lot of interest from some top flight clubs, with the Hammers the latest to be linked.

Although Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic hopes to keep his team in tact over the summer, there is a good chance that he could lose the Scottish star, as well as full-back Ryan Sessegnon, who is expected to join Liverpool.

From the middle of the park, the 26-year-old notched an impressive 12 goals throughout the course of the season, and also chipped in with a total of 11 assists.

Back in January, Fulham put a £20million asking price on Cairney to scare off Newcastle. With at least three teams interested in him, they'll be hopeful of getting a fee close to that amount if they do decide to let him go.

Denis Odoi back to Belgium?

Denis Odoi could make his return to Belgium next season. A top 6 club would be interested in the Fulham player.
If Thomas Foket leaves, Ghent will have to find him a successor. His replacement could well be Denis Odoi according to Het Laatste Nieuws. The Belgian is under contract with Fulham until 2019. This season he has participated in 30 league games, scoring 2 goals and 2 assists.

Would be sad if this happened. Good full back who I doubt is on big wages. Him and Fredericks good enough to fill the Right Back spot next season.

Mullers OG

This would be a real shame.  He's always struck me as a real professional whether in or out of the team.  One highlight of the season was his magical piece of skill against Newcastle.  Next season the team needs a new centre half and a new mobile striker.  If Cairney goes, and at 26 with his ability he ought to be playing at the top level, replacing him will be difficult.  Personally I would like to see LVC being given his chance.  A replacement for Aluko would be helpful too, preferably one who can finish, pass and head.
