Tottenham reportedly handed huge boost in their hopes of signing wonderkid

According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur target Ryan Sessegnon has his heart set on a move to the North London Club. As a result, Liverpool have reportedly cooled their interest in the young sensation after he indicated that he wishes to join Mauricio Pochettino's team.

Pochettino has earned himself a reputation for giving young players game time and this will likely attract Sessegnon into moving to the club.

Youngsters such as Cameron Carters-Vickers, Josh Onomah and Kyle Walkers-Peters are all set to receive game time for the North London club next season after impressing Pochettino.

Fulham have been hoping of tying Sessegnon down to a permanent deal at the club; however it now looks increasingly likely that he will opt to move to the Premier League with Spurs.

Considering that Spurs are one of the best clubs in England at the moment and have developed a reputation for nurturing youngsters well, the North London side will be a good fit for him.

Former Fulham defender linked with move away from Manchester United with Crystal Palace, Everton and West Ham hovering

The 27-year-old only played 19 times for the Craven Cottage outfit before he was sold to the Manchester giants in 2010

Former Fulham defender Chris Smalling looks set to leave Manchester United this summer with three clubs reportedly vying for his signature.

The 27-year-old signed for the Cottagers in 2008 after making a name for himself at Maidstone United, but only played 19 appearances before making the move to Old Trafford in 2010, where he's made more than 240 appearances whilst being capped 31 times for England.

And according to the Daily Star , Jose Mourinho looks set to allow one defender to leave United this summer, with Crystal Palace, Everton and West Ham all interested in the defender.

He made his debut for Fulham in 2009 during a 2-0 loss to Everton in the final match of the 2008/09 season and made his first start for the club the following season in a 1-1 draw with CSKA Sofia.

Fulham should look to add this Welsh international to their squad

Fulham had a terrific season under Serbian Slavisa Jokanovic, finishing sixth in the Championship table and making the play-offs.

Heading into the play-offs, the 'Cottagers' were many people's favourites to go on and get promoted to the Premier League, but they fell at the semi-final hurdle when they faced Reading, losing 2-1 on aggregate.

The season as a whole though, despite failing to gain promotion would be deemed as a success by many Fulham fans, and they know that in Jokanovic they have a manager that has the credentials to have the team battling towards the top end of the league table.

The 'Cottagers' were the joint top scorers in the league this campaign alongside, Champions Newcastle United and Norwich City scoring 85 goals, so they certainly know where the back of the net is and shows Jokanovic likes to play attacking football.

There top scorers in the Championship were midfielders Tom Cairney and Stefan Johansen.

Cairney managed to get 13 goals and 10 assists, and Johansen managed 11 goals and 8 assists, showing that they have firepower throughout the side.

With Fulham having quite a few young players in their ranks, they could turn to the experienced Welsh international Joe Ledley to provide that much needed experience, that could be the difference between them staying in the Championship next season and getting to the Premier League.

Joe Ledley – The Welsh midfielder has had a terrific career so far, playing for Cardiff City, Celtic and Crystal Palace respectively.

Having racked up over 400 professional matches, Ledley would bring vital experience to the side and could be used to sit in a deeper role in the midfield to allow the likes of Cairney and Johansen to go forward and score goals.

Throughout his career though, Ledley has chipped in with goals himself, having scored 27 at Cardiff and 20 at Celtic.

Whilst in his time at Cardiff during the 2007-2008 season, Ledley, finished the club's joint top scorer on 11 goals, showing that he certainly has an eye for goal and will play his part.

Former Fulham and Arsenal midfielder gives England U20 World Cup winners some words of wisdom after win

England won the World Cup after beating Venezuela 1-0 in South Korea and the former Fulham man has some words of advice for their future careers

Former Fulham man Ian Selley has some words of advice the latest golden generation of English football after they lifted the U20 World Cup in South Korea.

Selley, unfortunately, only made three appearances for the Craven Cottage side after he suffered a broken leg for a second time before moving to Wimbledon in 2000, after which he forged a career in the lower leagues.

He's now a leading coach at Arsenal Soccer School in Dubai and has given some words of wisdom to the England U20 stars who won the World Cup after beating Venezuela 1-0 in the final - a group Steven Sessegnon would've been part of had injury not ruled him out.

Selley was in the last England youth squad to reach the semi-finals of the competition back in 1993, prior to Paul Simpson's side making an even bigger impression.

Selley had this to say: "The game has changed hugely over the last 20 years. I look at when I played and I see lots of changes in players' behaviour on and off the pitch. I'm not knocking the young players of today but many seemed to believe they have made the grade before playing a first team game.

"The hunger and passion can sometimes leave players when they sign big contracts as an 18-year-old, they seem to want to show they've made it with flash cars, watches etc. I'm not saying I was too different but my passion was to be in the first team. Yes we all love the latest car which we could afford but wasn't my personal motivation, football was always the number one thing in my life and I was always striving to get to the top."

Injury-hit Selley, who played 42 times in the Premier League for the Gunners between 1992 and 1997, added: "My advice would be to stay as grounded as possible, remember what got you the contract in the first place, what got you to enable you to represent England.

"Every player that represents their country has the opportunity to really hit the big time. You are part of a 20-player team that has been hand picked, while millions have the same dream and other talented players haven't.

"Give everything you can as you never know what's around the corner, injuries that can finish you and bad luck.

"Being out of favour with the manager can really affect you and football can be taken away in a second."

International Round-Up

Tim Ream helped the United States to an important point in their World Cup Qualifier in Mexico on Sunday.

The Fulham man played the full 90 minutes as part of a back-three, and his side went in front early on through Michael Bradley's stunning 40-yard lob.

Mexico hit back through former Arsenal forward Carlos Vela to secure a 1-1 draw, which kept them top of their qualifying group, six points ahead of the States in third.

In the European Qualifiers, Ragnar Sigurdsson was substituted in stoppage time as Iceland secured an excellent 1-0 win over Croatia in Reykjavik.

Hoerdur Magnusson netted the winner in the final minute of normal time in unorthodox fashion, using his back to divert the ball into the net from a corner.

Sigurdsson was then replaced by Sverrir Ingi Ingason as Iceland looked to wind the clock down, which they successfully did to move level on points with their opponents at the top of Group I.

Stefan Johansen captained Norway as they came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw with the Czech Republic on Saturday.

Theodor Gebre Selassie opened the scoring for the Czechs on 36 minutes but the home side replied through a Gunnar Heidar Porvaldsson penalty in the 55th minute.

Johansen played the full 90, picking up a booking just after the goal. Tomas Kalas, who was on loan at Fulham for the 2016/17 season, was an unused substitute for the Czech Republic.

The Norwegians have mustered four points from six games and lie fifth in Group C of the European World Cup Qualifiers, meaning they can no longer qualify automatically for the World Cup and only have a slim chance of qualifying through the Play-Offs.

Tom Cairney was on the bench for Scotland's 2-2 draw with England at Hampden Park.

Cairney was not called upon but former Fulham loanee Chris Martin came on in the 81st minute and drew a foul which put Scotland 2-1 up when Leigh Griffiths netted his second free-kick of the game.

England scored a late equaliser in the 93rd minute when Harry Kane's right footed shot found the back of the net.

The result sees England remain top of Group F on 12 points with Scotland lying in fourth position on eight points after six games.

The USA secured a 2-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago on Friday with Ream among the unused substitutes.

Lasse Vigen Christensen captained Denmark Under-21s to a 2-0 away win over Sweden U21s in a friendly on Saturday.

The Danes scored both their goals in the second-half through Rasmus Nissen and Mikkel Duelund.

Transfer gossip: Whites want Arfield, Sun say

Fulham want Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield, The Sun say.

The Sun reports that West Brom have targeted the Canada international and that he is also wanted by the Whites and Hull.

Arfield has a year remaining on his contract at Burnley, whose manager Sean Dyche would apparently be reluctant to let him leave.

Brighton linked with McDonald

Brighton want Fulham midfielder Kevin McDonald, The Sun have also claimed.

The Sun say a move to the promoted Seagulls would appeal to the 28-year-old, who has three years remaining on his contract at Craven Cottage.

It is claimed that Brighton are ready to table a £2m bid for him and that he is also wanted by Glasgow Rangers.

McDonald would also see a transfer to Ibrox as a good move, The Sun say, because he wants to get back into the Scotland squad.

Sessegnon speculation

Manchester United are keen to snap up Ryan Sessegnon and Liverpool are still in the race to sign him, according to the Daily Telegraph.

It comes after the Daily Mirror reported that United and battling with Tottenham for the Fulham youngster and that Liverpool had ended their interest.

The Telegraph say United boss Jose Mourinho wants to take Sessegnon to Old Trafford, that there is no sign of any interested clubs withdrawing their interest, and that the player is open-minded about the possibility of staying at Fulham.

The Liverpool Echo reported earlier this that Liverpool have ended their interest in Sessegnon and believe he will join Tottenham.

Spurs have long been interested in the 17-year-old, who has yet to sign a professional contract at Craven Cottage.

Arsenal have shown an interest as well, while the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Everton have also been linked with Sessegnon.

The Echo believe Liverpool doubted Sessegnon's commitment to joining them amid reports Spurs are close to agreeing a deal to sign him.

Whites want Fletcher, Mirror say

Fulham are among clubs interested in West Ham youngster Ashley Fletcher, again according to the Mirror.

The Mirror say Huddersfield are keen to sign Fletcher, 21, on a season-long loan following the Yorkshire club's promotion to the top flight.

The newspaper say Fulham, Middlesbrough and Norwich are also looking to bring in the forward for next season.

Cairney's future

Newcastle continue to be linked with Fulham playmaker Tom Cairney.

The Daily Telegraph say the promoted Magpies are set to make an approach following the Whites' play-off defeat against Reading.

They were linked with Cairney during the January transfer window and are apparently undeterred by reports Fulham want £20m for the 26-year-old.

The Telegraph suggest Newcastle are likely to offer £12m and that Cairney may well be keen to make the move now Fulham's hopes of a return to the Premier League have been ended.

The Northern Echo believe Newcastle will make an approach for Cairney and that there is also interest from West Ham and Southampton.

Slavisa Jokanovic says Newcastle United won't succeed in bid for Tom Cairney

Newcastle like the look of Tom Cairney but Fulham manager makes his views clear on his potential exit

Fulham boss Slaviša Jokanović has claimed that Newcastle United made a £20million offer for Tom Cairney this year.

But the Serbian manager has indicated his star midfielder won't be leaving Craven Cottage this summer.

Fulham lost in the Championship play-offs to Reading last month and want to mount a fresh promotion challenge next term.

Speaking to the media in his native country, Jokanović was asked about Cairney and said: "Yes, he's good. He (Benitez) asked for him and they offered £20million, but we did not let him go.

"He is not for Newcastle, there is no business there, he fits in at Fulham.

"When the team has problems the ball always goes to him and he keeps it."

Missing out on Cairney would be considered a blow to Newcastle with the midfielder proving to be one of the brightest players in the Sky Bet Championship last season. Whether Cairney pushes for a move remains to be seen but he made it clear he wanted to play in the Premier League soon back in May.

Speaking about his desire to play top flight football, Cairney said: "Every player has to back themselves to play at that level and I believe once I get there — and I hope it's with Fulham — I really will show I can do things at that level.

"It's all about getting there in the first place, but I do think it does suit my game."

Premier League midfielder wanted by Fulham, Hull and West Brom this summer

According to a report by The Sun, Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield is attracting attention from a trio of English clubs this summer.

Premier League outfit West Bromwich Albion want to poach Arfield from Burnley but they will be rivalled for his signature by two Championship sides.

Fulham, who recently missed out on promotion via the play-offs after losing in the semi-final to Reading, have identified Scott Arfield as a top summer target.

Hull City – who were recently relegated from the Premier League – also want the versatile Burnley man, who can play anywhere across the midfield.

Both Championship teams harbour ambitions of winning promotion next season and the 28-year-old has experience of doing just that.

The Canadian international has twice won promotion to the Premier League with Burnley whilst also winning the League One play-off final with Huddersfield Town in 2012.

With just one year left on his current deal with Burnley, these three sides are lining up a swoop with a reported fee of £2.5m likely to be enough to land their man.

It is unlikely that Sean Dyche will be willing to part with his regular first team member but the security of a longer contract might convince Arfield to leave Turf Moor and pursue his career elsewhere.

Tony Pulis is a big fan but Arfield would be promised more playing time at one of the two interested Championship clubs.

FULHAM TRANSFER LINK ~ JULIAN JEANVIER

Fulham are looking to strengthen their defence ahead of next season with the capture of Reims defender Julian Jeanvier but face stiff competition from Huddersfield.

The recently promoted Premier League side look to be leading the race for the 25-year-old's signature who only joined Reims last summer, but Fulham are hopeful of adding him to their squad as they look to follow in Huddersfield's footsteps and gain promotion this time around.

Slavisa Jokanovic's side have enquired about the player's availability with Jeanvier thought to relish the opportunity at playing in a higher division than the French second tier, a division he was voted best defender in.

Jeanvier has one year left on his current deal at the French club and cost them £425k last summer when he signed from Lille and can play at either centre or left back.

Jeanvier has had loan spells at Mouscron and Red Star

Newcastle's £20m 'bid' for Tom Cairney lost in translation?

Talks of £20m for Tom Cairney are surely crazy talk even in today's market - whether Fulham allegedly asking for it, or Newcastle offering.

Starting in January, Newcastle have been regularly linked with Tom Cairney.

As a club looking nailed on to be promoted, little surprise to see the Magpies linked with one of the second tier's better performers last season.

There were even claims that Rafa Benitez had approached Fulham in the January 2017 transfer window but that the Cottagers had quoted £20m to ensure they would keep one of their best players for a promotion push. Newcastle United reportedly backed off immediately on hearing that £20m figure.

With Rafa Benitez in the end not allowed to bring in any players in January, even on loan, it was always dubious as to just how strong any interest/approach actually was for Tom Cairney.

That promotion push did get Fulham into the play-offs but fell at the play-off semi-final hurdle to Reading.

However, Monday has seen reports claiming that it is/was Newcastle offering £20m.

The Chronicle quote Slavisa Jokanovic speaking to Serbian media, though they don't say what the specific source was.

The Chronicle stating that the Fulham Manager said:

"Yes, he (Tom Cairney) is good.

"He (Rafa Benitez) asked for him and they offered £20million but we did not let him go.

"He is not for Newcastle, there is no business there, he fits in at Fulham.

"When the team has problems the ball always goes to him and he keeps it."

Trying to sort out what is truth or not is a tricky one but whatever the Fulham Manager has actually said, it is very difficult to believe that Newcastle actually offered £20m, if anything.

Yes he has done well in the Championship but on Saturday we saw just how poor Scotland are, especially in midfield, and Tom Cairney has never played any competitive football for his country, only making one friendly appearance. He was an unused sub against England.

With 13 goals and 10 assists  this past Championship season, it is clear that Tom Cairney has shown some quality, with Newcastle experiencing it first hand as he ran the show at St James Park and scored a cracking long range effort that set the Cottagers on their way to the eventual 3-1 victory.

Apart from a handful of games though as a 19 year old for Hull City, the midfielder has played all of his football outside of the Premier League.

The reality is that Tom Cairney turns 27 in January and if he is offered Premier League football this summer, can he really afford to turn down an opportunity that may not present itself again.

Also, for Fulham, whilst any club wants to keep hold of their best players, the reality is that with the strict FFP rules (they broke them by overspending and were then punished with a transfer embargo in January 2016) the only realistic way that they can add significantly to their squad is by selling the likes of Tom Cairney and Ryan Sessegnon.

If Newcastle, or any club, were interested and offered £10m or more then that would surely be enough to land the player, yes prices are getting crazy but Cairney has shown nothing as yet to justify a £20m transfer fee.

After losing in the play-offs Slavisa Jokanovic said this back in May:

"I expect our best players are going to stay with us, that is the information I have from the board.

"We are talking about our most important players, they are going to stay with us.

"Next season will be complicated and we will push to be promoted – we must be clever in the period in front of us.

"It depends on the summer and right now, it depends if we bring in what we need.

"We believe we can be promoted (next season) and it's clear we need to improve our team and squad and still be more competitive in the season in front."

Slavisa Jokanovic convinced Tom Cairney and Ryan Sessegnon will be at Fulham next season

Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic insists Tom Cairney and Ryan Sessegnon will be at the club next season as he plot a promotion push for the West Londoners.

Cairney's future has been the subject of intense speculation since Fulham fell short in the Championship Play-Off Semi-Finals, with newly-promoted Newcastle among the leading contenders for his signature.

But after falling short of promotion last season Fulham are keen to keep the core of their team together and their manager reaffirmed that Cairney would not be sold off despite Newcastle having made such a sizeable offer in January.

Jokanovic told Serbian publication Engleski Fudbal: "He (Benitez) asked for him and they offered £20m, but we did not let him go.

"He is not for Newcastle, there is no business there, he fits in at Fulham.

"When the team has problems the ball always goes to him and he keeps it."

The 26-year-old midfielder is one of the Championship's top performers and was named EFL Player of the Year at the 2017 London Football Awards.

Jokanovic was similarly optimistic over the future of Sessegnon, the 17-year-old left-back being chased by the likes of Tottenham, Manchester City and Liverpool.

The Serbian manager said that his confidence stemmed from Sessegnon's awareness that at Fulham he could assured of playing "32-33" games next season and that if the youngster went to "Liverpool, Tottenham, blah blah... they would go on loan".

Report: Huddersfield to beat Fulham to their first summer signing

Huddersfield move closer to signing Reims defender and former Fulham target Julian Jeanvier.

Huddersfield Town are on the verge of completing their first summer signing after securing promotion to the Premier League.

According to the Daily Mail, the Terriers are close to signing centre-back Julian Jeanvier from Ligue 2 side Stade Reims as they prepare for life in the top flight.

Jeanvier, who was named the best defender in France's second tier in 2016/17, has also attracted interest from Fulham but would be understandably more keen to play at a higher level.

The 25-year-old joined Reims from Lille in a £425,000 deal in the summer of 2016, but only signed a two-year deal upon in his arrival giving Huddersfield more bargaining power in any potential deal.

Jeanvier has the ability to play as both a left-back and a central defender, and David Wagner views the Frenchman as the ideal recruit to bolster his options at the back.

The former Nancy youth player made 30 appearances in all competitions for Reims last term, scoring three goals, but has played the majority of his career in Ligue 2 and has limited top flight experience.

Fulham purchase former BBC sports ground to expand Motspur Park training ground

The ground in Motspur Park has sat derelict for over ten years but Fulham have now purchased it from Irish businessman Ben Dunne

Fulham have purchased the former BBC sports ground at Motspur Park as they look to expand their training ground.

The abandoned sports ground, which lies opposite the club's training ground at Motspur Park, has been the subject of numerous initiatives, ranging from schools to cemeteries since it was sold by the BBC to Irish businessman Ben Dunne.

No development, however, ever materialised with the site occupied by ruined tennis courts, hockey and football pitches, while the clubhouse was burned down last year.

Fulham previously had a bid for the site rejected earlier in the year but the site was put out to tender by its owner in February, and the club have now purchased it outright.

Two building companies wanted to build houses on the site, but residents and councillors set up a petition to ensure it remained a sports ground in some shape as opposed to housing or any other development.

It is believed that the club wish to build new pitches, including new Academy pitches, on the current derelict site, which sits opposite their current training ground.

It is not yet known when work will start on the site.

Fulham have been contacted for comment but at time of writing have not responded.

I`m Hoping for Reading and Instant Revenge

Here at Vital Fulham we`re still trying to get over the disappointment of our play-off failure against Reading.

Trying to lift our chins off the floor hasn`t been easy.

Our form, ahead of the play-offs suggested that we stood a good chance of at least getting to Wembley and giving the support hope.

Sadly, that phobia that has seen us not make an appearance at the famous stadium since the seventies, crept in again.

It`s so long that they`ve rebuilt the place since we last ventured up Wembley way.

But, with the summer upon us and a fresh season on the horizon, we`re all hopeful that those grimaces can turn to grins this coming season.

This Friday the draw takes place for the first-round of the EFL Cup.

The draw will be held in Thailand courtesy of the Thai energy drinks firm Carabao sponsoring the competition for the next three-years.

In the draw will be every Championship club apart from Hull City and Middlesbrough and all forty-eight teams that make up League`s One and Two.

Wouldn`t it be great if Fulham could draw Reading and get instant revenge?

Your thoughts please.

Tottenham should offer Onomah on loan in exchange for Fulham's Sessegnon

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the £15m-rated Fulham kid.

According to a report from Football London at the weekend, Fulham starlet Ryan Sessegnon has his "heart set on" a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The 17-year-old full-back is one of Europe's hottest properties following a fine breakthrough season with the Championship club.

The Daily Star have reported that Fulham want £15 million for him, but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy could get a knock-down price.

Another player with huge potential is Tottenham's Josh Onomah, whose stock has risen considerably over the past 24 hours following a fine midfield performance to help England Under-20s lift the World Cup in South Korea at the weekend.

Problem is, the 20-year-old is not good enough to challenge for a spot in Mauricio Pochettino's first XI just yet, meaning the Lilywhites could loan him out.

Why This £4.8million Rated Chelsea Midfielder Would Be An Excellent Signing For Newcastle United

Why Chelsea's Lewis Baker Would Be A Great Option For Newcastle United

With Newcastle United reportedly interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Lewis Baker, some are suggesting that this would end their interested in Fulham's Tom Cairney.

Not so in my opinion, as Cairney is seen by Rafa as someone who can fill the Steven Gerrard role – a player so fit and expansive that he is a midfield player when the opposition has the ball but a no.10 when his own side are in possession.

This is not the case with the £4.8million rated Baker, but he is the type of player needed at Newcastle. With Diame out of position, Colback not good enough and Anita having now been released by the club, Newcastle only have Jonjo Shelvey and the inexperienced Isaac Hayden left as deep lying central midfield players.

On top of this, there was a heavy over-reliance on Shelvey's passing to get Newcastle ticking last term in the Championship, and Benitez knows fully well that this cannot be the case by the time the Premier League kicks off in August.

With that in mind, Baker would be an ideal signing. Starting all of his 33 games while on loan at Vitesse in the Eredivise last season, Baker finished the season with a pass completion rate of nearly 83%. He played 1.8 key passes per game which resulted in 2 assists for his side – this on top of 10 goals of his own in the Netherlands' top division.
