Newcastle United rocked by double transfer setback

IN DEMAND: Newcastle are keen on a deal for Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney

NEWCASTLE UNITED have suffered a double transfer setback with Slavisa Jokanovic insisting Tom Cairney will not be leaving Fulham this summer and Tammy Abraham admitting he does not yet know if he will be leaving Chelsea on loan.

Magpies manager Rafael Benitez had hoped to have completed three or four transfer deals by the middle of June, but Christian Atsu remains Newcastle's only summer signing following a £6.2m switch from Chelsea.

Benitez has identified a number of leading targets, but managing director Lee Charnley has so far been unable to conclude any additional deals. Cairney and Abraham both feature prominently on Benitez's wanted list, but it is proving difficult to prise either from their current employers.

Newcastle inquired about Cairney's availability in January, only to withdraw their interest when they were quoted an asking price of more than £20m for the midfielder. It was hoped Fulham's failure to win promotion via the play-offs would make them more willing to cash in this summer, but Jokanovic is adamant he wants Cairney to be at the heart of his side's attempts to finish in the top two next season.

Magpies officials have spoken to their counterparts at Craven Cottage, but Fulham's stance has not changed since the turn of the year.

"He (Benitez) asked for him and they offered £20m (in January), but we did not let him go," said Jokanovic. "He is not for Newcastle, there is no business there. He fits in at Fulham. When the team has problems, the ball always goes to him and he keeps it."

While Cairney is one of Newcastle's leading midfield targets, Abraham is dominating discussions about a potential attacking recruit.

Last week, it looked like a season-long loan from Chelsea was all but agreed, but the deal failed to come to fruition and Brighton made another approach for the 19-year-old.

That has muddied the water somewhat, with Brighton prepared to match Newcastle's financial package for Abraham, who scored 26 goals in 48 appearances with Bristol City last season.

Newcastle remain keen to push through a deal, but Abraham has hinted he would rather spend pre-season with Chelsea and wait to see what other opportunities present themselves in the remaining two-and-a-half months of the transfer window.

"I'm not sure what I'm doing next season – if I'm coming back, going elsewhere on loan or staying at Chelsea," said the England Under-21 international. "I haven't decided yet.

"You have to stay open and things may come at different times, but I have to dream big and that's what I'm going to be doing."

Newcastle's recruitment team are also hoping to push through deals for goalkeeper Willy Caballero, who is a free agent following his release from Manchester City, and defender Florian Lejeune, who has an £8.7m release clause in his current contract at Spanish side Eibar.

Fulham Manager Gives A Ruthless Response With Regards To Tottenham Approaching Their Youngster

Fulham are growing concerned that defender Ryan Sessegnon will be tempted by a move to the Premier league as the player is resisting the offer of a new contract at Craven Cottage. Yet, manager Slavisa Jokanovic has confirmed that the club has the power to keep the star players. He said:

"I expect our best players are going to stay with us – this is the information I have from the board."

Tottenham and Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for the 17-year-old, who is now eligible to sign a professional contract. Sessegnon has become a sensational name in the Championship after managing to score 3 goals and 3 assists in just 25 league appearances.

Sessegnon has been dreaming about playing in the Premier League, and Fulham came close to making this dream a reality by reaching the Championship play-off. Despite being the favourites against Reading, Fulham suffered a two legged defeat and will have to wait for another 12 months in order to come close to getting a return to the top division.

As a result, the only way for Sessegnon to quickly realise his Premier League dream would by joining a team from the top-flight. There has been no shortage of interest in the player with a number of top teams showing chasing him. But Liverpool and Spurs have so far been the front-runners for his signature.

Liverpool were thought to be closing in on the player, but it is understood that manager Jurgen Klopp has decided to pursue targets elsewhere since the transfer was taking a lot of time. Tottenham, though, may not have the same kind of urgency due to the presence of Danny Rose.

Sessegnon would be a valuable addition to any Premier Club and we should act quickly if we are to land the talented teenager. He would be a great signing and one for the future. The major reason as to why he should join us is that we'll be able to give him ample time to prove himself. We have Danny Rose in our team and hence Sessegnon would face less pressure from the media and fans alike.

Newcastle Transfers: £20 Million Bid For Tom Cairney Turned Down?

Fulham boss Slaviša Jokanović claims to have rejected huge offer for star player.

Newcastle United have had a £20million offer for Tom Cairney rejected, according to Fulham boss Slaviša Jokanović.

Speaking to the Serbian media, Jokanović said: "[Newcastle] asked for him and they offered £20million, but we did not let him go".

"He is not for Newcastle, there is no business there, he fits in at Fulham. When the team has problems the ball always goes to him and he keeps it."

Registering 9 goals and 10 assists last season, and one of each against Newcastle themselves, it had been expected that Fulham would face numerous offers for the player. Newcastle in particular had been linked with Cairney as far back as the January transfer window, and it was believed that Cairney was at the top of Rafa Benitez's shopping list.

While the Championship winners have yet to confirm or deny the existence of this offer, the insistence that Fulham won't sell the Scottish international, even at such a high price, will doubtless come as a blow.

The news follows a relatively quiet transfer window by Newcastle's standards, with reports of Tammy Abraham arriving on load the only substantial news

How much is Newcastle United target Tom Cairney worth?

Slavisa Jokanovic has revealed that the club have rejected a £20million bid for Cairney, but what do you think he is worth?

Slavisa Jokanovic has revealed to the Serbian press that Fulham have rejected a £20million bid for Tom Cairney, but how much do you think he's worth?

Newcastle have been sniffing around the 26-year-old for some time now, with Rafa Benitez believed to be a big fan of the midfielder who is known for his ability on the ball.

Jokanovic has repeatedly said that he believes Fulham is a better fit for Cairney than Newcastle, while the player himself wants to play Premier League football, although would prefer to do so with the Cottagers.

Transfer fees seem to be becoming inflated with the introduction of Premier League television money, but what would you accept for Cairney?

Hull City looking to bring in Chelsea defender on loan

Hull City are looking to utilise Leonid Slutsky's link with Roman Abramovich to make Chelsea defender Tomas Kalas their first summer signings, according to the Evening Standard.

Kalas made his Premier League debut for the Blues back in 2014, with many hoping he could push on and establish himself as a regular in the Chelsea team, but things haven't quite worked out at Stamford Bridge, and the Czech centre-half finds himself on the verge of an exit.

The Czech impressed out on loan with Middlesbrough and Fulham the past seasons, helping the pair to automatic promotion and a Play-Off semi-final respectively, giving away an unfortunate penalty which proved costly in the latter.

Should Fulham have gone on to win the Play-Offs, Kalas' loan agreement included an obligation to buy, however, defeat to Reading scuppered the deal to bring him back to the club.

Fulham have not yet made a bid to bring him back to Craven Cottage as of yet, but with a lack of defensive backups, it wouldn't be surprising to see Slavisa Jokanovic go in pursuit of a reunion with the Chelsea defender.

With just one year remaining on his contract at Chelsea, the London club are willing to listen to offers for a permanent transfer. At 24 years of age, if Kalas was going to break into the Chelsea first team, it would have already happened, and for every Victor Moses story, there are many more who fail to make the grade.

However, Hull could offer the former Vitesse defender a lifeline, and with Harry Maguire almost certain to depart the club, Hull could be the perfect place for Kalas to kickstart his career.

Motspur Park Site Acquired

We are pleased to announce that the Club has recently completed the acquisition of the former BBC Sports Ground located in Motspur Park.

The site is situated opposite the Fulham Football Club Training Ground which, last season in particular, received significant funds by the Chairman to upgrade facilities.

Further news regarding the ground will be communicated during the coming months.

Shahid Khan, Fulham Chairman, said: "The purchase of the site gives our Club additional and much-needed flexibility at Motspur Park and reinforces our commitment to providing first-class resources and one of the best training environments in all of football.

"We haven't yet determined exactly how we will use the property, but one thing I can guarantee is we will be respectful owners and excellent neighbours.

"I'm very appreciative to everyone who helped make this happen. It's great news for the continued progress of our First Team and a huge boost as well for all of our squads and our renowned Academy."

Roman Abramovich opens door for Chelsea's loan star's permanent switch

Chelsea are willing to part with long term loanee Tomas Kalas this summer, and Hull are at the front of the queue to sign the Czech defender.

Goal are the source of the rumour, although it just makes sense for all parties involved, given the new Hull boss Leonid Slutsky's long standing connection to Roman Abramovich.

Kalas is 24 now and despite promising spells at Middlesbrough and at Fulham this year has never really looked like he was ready to take the step up to the first team at Stamford Bridge. After many loans he is now apparently frustrated and wants to secure a permanent deal.

He wouldn't cost much, given he's only got one year left on his deal at Chelsea, and he would be the perfect signing for Slutsky to bring in to immediately strengthen his very weak squad.

Shahid Khan believes new site at Motspur Park will help Fulham become one of best training environments in football

GetWestLondon exclusively revealed on Monday that Fulham had bought the site and the owner believes it will the club much needed flexibility

Shahid Khan believes that the purchase of the former BBC Sports Ground at Motspur Park will reinforce Fulham's commitment to providing one of the best training environments in all of football.

GetWestLondon revealed on Monday that the club had purchased the site from its owner after they had put the site out to tender, although Fulham had a bid rejected earlier in the year.

The site is located opposite the current training ground, which received significant funds from the Chairman in order to upgrade the facilities.

And Mr Khan believes that acquiring this site reinforces their commitment to providing one of the best training classes in "all of football."

Shahid Khan said: "The purchase of the site gives our Club additional and much-needed flexibility at Motspur Park and reinforces our commitment to providing first-class resources and one of the best training environments in all of football.

Chelsea, Fulham or Hull City... What's next for Tomas Kalas?

Chelsea defender Tomas Kalas looks set to be a wanted man this summer, with Hull City making early advances for the former Fulham loan star.

As revealed by Standard Sport on Tuesday, new Hull manager Leonid Slutsky is looking to the Czech international to bolster his defence, amid the likely departure of Harry Maguire, after their relegation to the Championship.

Slutsky knows the Chelsea squad well, having watched many of the club's games at all levels, due to his friendship with compatriot Roman Abramovich, and will be targeting much of their young talent.

This is a crucial summer for Kalas as, with just one year left on his contract, the 24-year old must decide whether to try and establish himself at Stamford Bridge or look for pastures new to fulfil his evident potential.

Standard Sport takes a look at some of the options available to him...

FIGHT FOR A PLACE AT CHELSEA
Despite the departure of John Terry, Chelsea are blessed with an abundance of riches in defence. Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz and Gary Cahill formed a title-winning trio last season upon which manager Antonio Conte could build his fashionable 3-4-3 formation.

Kurt Zouma is still very highly rated at the club and, having made 14 appearances last season when recovering from a serious injury, one can be sure that he will feature more often next term.

Nathan Ake returned to Chelsea in January after successful loan spells at Watford and then Bournemouth. The 22-year old Dutchman is able to play at centre-back, left-back and in midfield, so provides a versatility that Kalas cannot. With his proven Premier League pedigree, Ake is another standing in Kalas' way to get into Conte's plans.

Kalas would also be up against another returning loanee in Andreas Christensen. Whilst the former's loan spells at Middlesbrough and Fulham have enhanced his reputation, Christensen's achievements to date make him one of the most promising centre backs in world football.

The Danish international only turned 21 in April, but has already amassed 62 Bundesliga appearances in two seasons for Borussia Monchengladbach and won their Player of the Season award in 2015/16, ahead of then captain Granit Xhaka.

Whilst an attempt to break into the Chelsea first-team may appeal to Kalas, the likelihood is that he would have to be lucky with injuries to get a sniff of action. He would start the season at sixth choice defender and a campaign on the side-lines may only damage his burgeoning reputation.

RETURN TO FULHAM
STATISTICS | TOMAS KALAS

PROFILE
Age    24
Height    6ft
International caps    6

2016/17 Season | Fulham
Appearances    38
Goals    1
Assists    1
Passes per game    52.9
Passing accuracy    87.1%
Tackles per game    0.9
Interceptions per game    1.9

There was a clause in Kalas' loan deal at Craven Cottage that would have seen him remain at Fulham had they been promoted to the Premier League. A semi-final defeat to Reading prevented an immediate return, but the centre-back would be welcomed back to the club for the coming campaign.

He excelled in the fluid system that manager Slavisa Jokanovic implemented at the club, averaging nearly 53 passes per game at a success rate of 87 per cent. To put that into context, Toby Alderweireld averaged 51 at 83 per cent, Laurent Koscielny 51 at 88 per cent and Gary Cahill 50 at 89 per cent.

Kalas is a gifted footballer who provided the platform that enabled the likes of Tom Cairney and Stefan Johansen to excel for Fulham last season.

Whilst they ultimately fell short of their promotion goals, the south-west London club are amongst the bookies' favourites for the Championship title next season and there is the feeling that they will continue to prosper with Jokanovic at the helm.

A move to Fulham would bring guaranteed first–team football in a style that suits him. Whilst the Premier League must be the aim, his familiarity with the club must make a move back an attractive proposition.

START A NEW CHAPTER IN HULL
Hull's interest is harder to gauge, as the club look set to lose the more impressive players from their small relegation squad. The appointment of Slutsky is an interesting one which, like that of Marco Silva in January, shows a willingness to look further afield for coaching talent.

The Russian's relationship with the Chelsea owner will likely put them in a good negotiating position for the transfer, but their interest may alert many Premier League clubs to his availability.

Should Chelsea be willing to cash-in on Kalas to avoid losing him on a free transfer next year, Hull will surely not be the only club waiting in line. Having spent the past two seasons fighting for promotion to the Premier League for different clubs, a move to do the same at a third does not seem like a progressive step.

In gaining promotion with Middlesbrough in 2015-16 Kalas earned his chance to play in the top tier, whilst his performances for Fulham proved his class at Championship level. Hull will be targeting many Chelsea players in the coming weeks, but this target could be looking to finally make his mark at the highest level.

Fulham linked with move for attacker – familiar face at Craven Cottage

Fulham could look to loan Oostend attacker Cyriac for the season, according to claims in the Belgian media. The 26-year-old spent six months on loan with the Championship side in the last campaign.

Het Nieuwsblad have reported Oostend are looking to offload Cyriac in the next window in order to pave way for new players to join this summer. The Ivory Coast international looks surplus to requirements with the Jupiler club, and Fulham could offer them a solution to their problems.

Fulham loaned Cyriac in the second half of last season, but they didn't activate their right of redemption on the forward. Around a month ago it was reported in Belgium that Fulham were considering taking Cyriac back, but wanted to find out their league status first.

The West London side are open to the possibility of loaning the Ivorian for a season, and given Oostend's desire to get rid of the player a deal could be done.

Cyriac played nine times for Fulham last season, scoring one goal, but all his appearances came via the substitute bench. The centre forward has two years remaining on his contact with Oostend.

Newcastle made offer that would have seen Tom Cairney become most expensive Scot in history, reveals Fulham boss

SLAVISA JOKANOVIC has revealed that Fulham snubbed an offer from Newcastle which would have made Tom Cairney the most expensive Scottish footballer of all time.

The Cottagers boss has claimed Rafa Benitez tabled a mammoth £20 MILLION bid for their club captain, who bagged 13 goals last term.

That would have smashed the current record for a Scottish talent, currently held by Oliver Burke following his £13 million transfer from Nottingham Forest to Red Bull Leipzig last summer.

However, Jokanovic is adamant he has no intention of parting with his prize asset ahead of another Championship promotion push next season.

He told Engleski Fudbal: "Cairney is a very good player. He (Benitez) has already asked for him, and Newcastle offered £20 million, but we did not let him go.

"He is not for Newcastle, there is no business to be done there. He fits in at Fulham."

Cairney's dazzling form for the Cottagers also saw the playmaker win his first senior cap for Gordon Strachan's national side, turning in a man of the match showing in March's 1-1 draw against Canada at Easter Road.

And he has previously expressed his desire to play in the top tier, stating: "Every player has to back themselves to play at that level and I believe once I get there – and I hope it's with Fulham – I really will show what I can do. It's all about getting there in the first place."

Fulham Ready To Make An Offer For This Burnley Midfield Enforcer: Can Jokanović Pull This Off?

Fulham are eyeing a move for Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield. The Championship side is preparing for the new season after failing to get past the Playoff stage in the last season. The Cottagers will be banking on their inspired performances last term but will have to bolster some significant portions of the current squad.

The Scotland-born Canadian international has had a pretty quiet season in terms of performances but the Cottagers are ready to bring him to the Championship. Despite having a pretty decent season, Fulham gaffer Slavisa Jokanovic is eyeing him in an attempt to make a push for the promotion next season.

Burnley defied all odds as they stayed afloat in the Premier League after a not so impressive season but Arfield's form hasn't managed to attract much interest. Perhaps it was his form in the promotion winning season for the Clarets where he had played a crucial role, which might be the reason behind Fulham's interest. On his road to the Premier League, the midfielder had scored eight goals and assisted six times in the Championship.

Sean Dyche knows the potential of the player and would be reluctant to let him go. But the player's contract situation might hinder his plan. The midfielder will be moving into his last year of the contract and the Clarets might be forced to cash on him otherwise they will have the fear to lose the player for free.
