Burton Albion boss: 'No offers' for Fulham, Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday and Aston Villa target

Whites have been linked with a move for Burton player of the year Jackson Irvine

Jackson Irvine is a man in demand.

And it's not difficult to see why.

In a struggling Burton Albion side Irvine was one of the standout performers, scoring ten goals from midfield as the Brewers avoided relegation to League One by just one point.

Fulham were credited with an interest in the 24-year-old Australian international earlier this month, but if reports are to be believed, they face a battle with the likes of Aston Villa, Sheffield Wednesday, and Derby County for his signature.

And as yet, Burton have received no offers for Irvine.

Brewers boss Nigel Clough told the Burton Mail: "There's a lot of speculation and everything but there have been no official approaches.

"We'll see what happens in the next few weeks but there have been no official approaches."

Irvine's contract with Burton still has two years to run.

Transfer talk: Fulham rebuffed in move for former Crystal Palace and Arsenal man

Former Crystal Palace forward Rui Fonte is the subject of interest from Championship side Fulham this summer.

However, the Cottagers have had a bid rejected for the 27-year-old, who spent time on loan at Palace in 2009 from Arsenal.

Fonte, the younger brother of former Palace defender Jose Fonte, has spent time back in his native Portugal and Spain in recent seasons, and currently plies his trade in the Portuguese top flight with Braga.

But Portuguese newspaper O Jogo is reporting that Braga have rejected several approaches for the forward, with Fulham understood to be the latest side to have a bid turned down.

Fonte, who can play as a forward or a winger, started his senior career at Arsenal, but left the Gunners in 2009 after his loan spell with Palace.

After claim of Fulham offer, president confirms approaches, one of club's better ideas

The winter transfer saw Fulham race around Europe trying to find themselves a striker. Some targets were genuinely impressive, like Sergi Enrich, but most were a much of a muchness.

If we're honest, at one point it started to get rather desperate.

Strangely, or perhaps not, the summer has begun in a similar way for Fulham. All over Europe the club have been linked with strikers of varying degrees of quality. It's unlikely that a lot of the claims are made up by the media, using Fulham doesn't generate mountains of hits in France or Belgium, but there could be agents seeing an opportunity in Fulham's quest.

That's why it's nice when an ambitious target is linked, more exciting than one which looks to be a complete and utter shot in the dark.

Step forward Diego Rolan.

Following English claims that Fulham have made an offer for the Bordeaux player, L'Equipe explain the club's president Stéphane Martin has confirmed approaches, if not specifically bids and not specifically Fulham.

Rolan is a Uruguay international, he turned 24 years of age in March, and scored 9 Ligue goals last season in 19 starts and 10 substitute appearances. He hasn't fulfilled his potential, and perhaps needs a move to do so.

There are doubts, but Fulham wouldn't have a chance if there weren't, and Rolan looks a lot more promising than some of the others linked with a move to Craven Cottage.

Talented Nigerian Midfielder Wins Fulham's U23 Goal Of The Season Award

Talented Nigerian midfielder Dennis Adeniran has won Fulham's U23 Goal of the Season Award for the 2016-2017 campaign.

The 18-year-old's spectacular effort against Blackburn Rovers on the opening day of the season on August 15, 2016 was voted the most eye-catching goal scored by an U23 player last term.

Adeniran's 88th minute goal at Craven Cottage picked up 20.5 percent of the votes in a poll by the official website of Fulham.

The England U18 international beat Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson, who was nominated three times, to the accolade.

The young star netted on his competitive debut for Fulham in a League Cup match against Leyton Orient back in August.

Fulham transfers: Bordeaux confirm interest in striker

Cologne, Leverkusen and Schalke are also interested in the former Defensor Sporting man

Bordeaux have confirmed that Fulham have made an offer for Diego Rolan with the Whites keen to tie up a deal for the striker.

The 24-year-old Uruguayan has been identified the Whites as the frontman they need to go one better after their defeat in the play-off semi finals to Reading.

Cologne, Leverkusen and Schalke are also interested in the former Defensor Sporting man.

Stéphane Martin confirmed that Rolan 'looks in demand' going into the summer transfer window.

However, he insisted that the club were 'very calm' about his future going into the start of pre-season.

Rolan scored nine Ligue 1 goals last season in 29 games and, in his career, he has scored four goals in 23 appearances for his country.

Fulham would have to wait until July 1 for the transfer window to open but the German side would be able to seal a deal earlier with the transfer window there already open.

Fulham boss enjoying last-minute relaxation before 'intense' period as Whites aim to banish play-off memories

Slavisa Jokanovic has some beach time before pre-season gets in full swing

Pre-season starts earlier and earlier.

At least it seems that way anyway.

Fulham's players - those who have not been on international duty - will be back on the training pitch on Monday, just 41 days after losing in the Championship play-off semi-final to Reading.

And manager Slavisa Jokanovic, who is understood to have made bids for three frontmen already since the last season ended, is enjoying some last-minute relaxation on the beach, before returning to Motspur Park next week.

The Serbian posted a photo from his Twitter account yesterday, showing him on the beach. Underneath he wrote: "Taking advantage of the last weekend of the break before an intense period of work."

I'm sure the Fulham players will be delighted to read that the start of pre-season training is going to be "intense".

Go For It Jokanović – 3 Reasons Why This Chelsea Star Would Be A Good Signing For Fulham

Three Reasons Why Tomas Kalas Would Be A Good Signing For Fulham

Some recent reports suggest that Chelsea defender Tomas Kalas is in advanced talks with recently-relegated Hull City about a move to the club, though discussions are still taking place regarding a permanent deal with Fulham.

Kalas spent last season on loan at Craven Cottage and proved to be a very popular signing, playing his part in Fulham's excellent campaign which ended in them achieving a play-off spot. Here we look at the three main reasons why Fulham should get the deal done.

Maintaining The Status Quo
Well, maintain it in the defence at least! Any defensive problems they had last season were less to do with the quality of the players in those positions, but more with their care-free style of play. Kalas was instrumental last season and if anything will probably improve, it is the 24-year-old centre-back.

When a club has had a good season, one of the key mistakes they make is to think too much about new signings and ignore the importance of retaining their best players. If they keep Kalas, their defence would remain settled and that could be crucial.

He Has Premier League Pedigree
The opinion that when playing in the Championship, players need to have some rough and tumble about them and play a long-ball game is an old hat. Bournemouth, to use one example, passed their way out of this division and it's much simpler than people think.

You really just need top individual quality as a foundation. The same thing happens in horse racing all the time; often there is a 'group' horse placed in a handicap race and frankly, regardless of the conditions they are simply too good for the opposition.

This has been the case in the Championship with Newcastle United not once, but twice, with the likes of Coloccini, Nolan, Carroll, Shelvey, Ritchie and others simply being too good for the league. Kalas looks like he is definitely a Premier League player and so if Fulham want to be promoted, they could do with as many of those as they can get.

Value For Money
Should Kalas be signed permanently, the fee isn't going to be sky high. It will certainly be affordable and will not pose as a risk. This means that he represents a saving in truth and that leaves whatever transfer kitty they have, plus any money the potential Sessegnon and Cairney sales may bring, free to fill other positions. They need a top striker this summer, and they are not cheap! Kalas would be a great investment and a cheap one. So Fulham can use the rest of the money to buy a striker too.

Press Box Opinion

In the final instalment of Press Box Opinion, the Communications team share their favourite photographs from the 2016/17 season.

Carmelo Mifsud, Media Relations Manager: "The precise moment that this picture captured Tom Cairney's emotion when scoring the equaliser in injury time against Leeds. There was a sense of a complete release, knowing just how important that goal was, and how important it would turn out to be. This picture perhaps isn't on the same scale as Marco Tardelli's celebration when scoring in the World Cup Final for Italy, but comes close, right?"

Geoff Pruce, Web Content Manager: "I love the photo of Tom Cairney realising we'd confirmed a Play-Off spot after our draw with Brentford. It was an emotionally draining day all round as Leeds looked as though they might pull off a remarkable result against Norwich after being 3-0 down at one point, so the feeling when we learnt they'd only drawn was one of huge relief. The players were waiting to find out themselves, and Tom's joy when the Hammy End exploded was clear for all to see."

Jamie Reid, Co-Commentator: "Stefan Johansen celebrating Sone Aluko's goal against Aston Villa at the Cottage. For me, Stefan was a key performer throughout the season so I wanted to mention him. Along with Tom Cairney and Kevin McDonald, he's really impressed in the engine room. The three of them have gelled perfectly and will only improve as a partnership!"

James Wyatt, Communications Manager: "The photo of Ryan Sessegnon after he had broken the record for the youngest Championship goal scorer v Cardiff. It was a fantastic moment for Ryan, and no doubt his family as well, and it set the tone for what would be an excellent breakthrough season for the teenager."

Ed Hutson, Video & Content Executive: "The photos after Ryan Sessegnon scored his second and Fulham's third up in Newcastle are a joy to flick through. To think he is only 16 and he silenced some of the loudest supporters in English football that day. I think there were over 50,000 fans at that game and you can see the enormity of St. James' Park in the background as Sess runs over to the corner flag holding his finger to his lips, just enjoying the moment as everyone associated with the Club did that day. It felt like a Premier League game with a Premier League atmosphere, and it felt like Fulham and Sessegnon deserved to be there."
