Midfielder leaves on loan

Brighton boss Chris Hughton has allowed midfielder Oliver Norwood to join Fulham on a season-long loan deal.

The Northern Ireland international made 33 appearances as the Seagulls won promotion to the Premier League last season, but game time in the top flight would be limited and a loan move to the Cottagers will suit everyone.

The 26-year-old, also formerly of Huddersfield and Reading, told Fulham's official website: "I'm just delighted to be here. Having played Fulham the last two seasons, the football they have played, it suits my style and suits the way I like to play football.

"Once I knew of the interest I was desperate to get it done and I am very happy to be here."

Meanwhile, Hughton also believes it is a good move, but has hinted it does not mean the end of Norwood's career with the Seagulls.

Hughton said: "Ollie made a key contribution towards last season's success and this is a good move for all three parties involved. It gives Ollie the opportunity to play regular football.

"Fulham are getting an excellent midfield player, and we'll monitor his progress throughout the season."

Former Fulham fans' favourite at centre of tug of war between Sunderland, Hull, Reading and Derby County

Former Whites hitman could end hell at Aston Villa

Former Fulham favourite Ross McCormack is wanted by Sunderland, as he looks to end his spell with Aston Villa.

The Scottish ace left Fulham after a two successful years in 2016 for a big money switch to Villa Park, but it didn't work out and he spent a brief loan spell at Nottingham Forest last season.

The race for McCormack's signature is set to intensify, with the likes of Hull City, Reading and Derby County all keen to match Sunderland's offer. Fulham are not expected to make a move to bring him back.

McCormack, 30, scored 42 goals in all competitions for the Whites. He is set to turn 31 next month.

Oliver Norwood says Fulham's passing style made loan decision easy

Oliver Norwood says Fulham's passing style of football made it an easy decision to join the club.

The Northern Ireland midfielder has moved on a season's loan after helping Brighton win promotion to the Premier League.

Norwood said: "I'm just delighted to be here. Having come up against Fulham in the past two seasons, the football they have played suits my style and the way I like to play football."

Fulham finished in the Championship play-offs last season and won a reputation for playing expansive football under Slavisa Jokanovic, scoring 85 goals.

They lost in to Reading at the semi-final stage, but Norwood hopes to record back-to-back promotions after a successful year at the Amex Stadium.

He added: "Once I knew of the interest, I was desperate to get it done and I am very happy to be here."

The 26-year-old, a graduate of the Manchester United academy, joined Brighton last summer and played 37 times in their promotion campaign, starting 16 Championship games.

Fitness won't be an issue for Fulham new boy

Norwood has barely stopped all summer

Fulham new boy Oliver Norwood reckons his non-stop summer means he will be fitter than ever for the start of the new season.

Since the end of last season, the on-loan Brighton midfielder has played two internationals for Northern Ireland – against New Zealand and Azerbaijan.

All of which means the 26 year old, who has signed on a season-long loan at Craven Cottage, feels he is already a step ahead fitness-wise.

He said: "I'm fit and fresh and ready to go," he told Fulham TV. " I only got a two week summer anyway having played for Northern Ireland in Azerbaijan – I was back in two weeks after that. Ffitness isn't going to be an issue for me, but I look after myself off the pitch anyway."

Busy lead: Norwood in action for Northern Ireland against Azerbaijan

Upon signing yesterday, Norwood made clear his admiration for Fulham's style of play, and now says he cannot wait to be a part of it.

He added: "As an outsider I always enjoyed playing at Fulham. I always loved playing at Craven Cottage as it was always a very good football match. Going back to what I was saying before, I think the style of play suits the way I like to play football, and I can't wait to get going now."

Meanwhile, Brighton boss Chris Hughton, despite letting the midfielder go out on loan, reckons Fulham have got themselves a gem in Norville.

He said: "Ollie made a key contribution towards last season's success and this is a good move for all three parties involved. It gives Ollie the opportunity to play regular football. Fulham are getting an excellent midfield player, and we'll monitor his progress throughout the season."

Fulham Interested In This Norwich City Marksman: Can They Land Him?

Fulham made it into the Championship play-offs in the last term but were knocked out of the tournament in the semi-final by Reading, who went to become the runner-ups for the tournament in the last season. This term, though, the Whites are looking to go all the way and win the Championship, thus heading back into the top flight once again.

The man in charge at Craven Cottage, Slavisa Jokanovic has been eyeing a number of transfer targets to be brought into the side for the next term, one of them being the Norwich City striker Cameron Jerome. The 30-year-old is well known in the Championship for his contribution to the Canaries and might be on the move at the end of the season if the offer is an acceptable one.

Jerome has been one of the most experienced players in the Championship and has played over 100 matches for his current side Norwich City, having scored 40 goals so far. Apart from the Canaries, the England international has also played a number of matches for his former club Birmingham City as well, the number is 200 in total. The Fulham manager Jokanovic is looking to make a move for the player in the next term in order to utilise his experience in the forthcoming days to get them in a good position in the Championship.

The 30-year-old Englishman has been one of the players who has played for an array of clubs, including the likes of Crystal Palace, Stoke City and Cardiff City as well. He has a good record under his belt in addition to his good scoring record as well, which is one of the prime factors for Fulham to make a bid for him in the next term.

It has not been a very good transfer window this summer for the Whites, with the Championship side failing to bring in some major players to strengthen their side for the new season. While a number of players have left the side so far, only two players in the form of Ibrahima Cisse and Marcelo Djalo have been procured to come into Craven Cottage so far. However, Fulham are hopeful that they will be able to get their hands on Jerome to strengthen their attacking front, with his vast experience of playing for a number of clubs in the Championship coming handy for them in the next term.

Reportedly, the club is poised to make a bid of £3 million in the summer to bring in the player from Norwich City this summer.

How Fulham could line up for the 2017-18 Championship season

Fulham have shown no sign of letting their Championship Play-Off heartbreak set them back in the transfer market this summer, with Slavisa Jokanovic moving quickly to add depth to an already impressive squad.

The retention of Ryan Sessegnon and Tom Cairney, who have both signed new contracts at Craven Cottage, serves as a huge statement of intent from the west London side.

The Cottagers won 11 of their last 17 games in the Championship last season to propel them into the top six, so wholesale changes to the team are not necessary.

Scott Parker's retirement and Scott Malone's switch to Huddersfield saw them a bit light in some areas and Fulham's recruitment team, led by American data analyst Craig Kline, have again looked to Europe to source untapped talent.

Oliver Norwood, Lucas Piazon, Marcelo Djalo and Ibrahimo Cisse are the confirmed arrivals so far, with the returning Tomas Kalas reported to be joining on loan from Chelsea shortly.

They will add competition to a squad already high in quality, so manager Jokanovic will have some difficult decisions to make on August 5th when they host Norwich in the first game of the season.

No more so than in goal, where David Button played the first 40 games of last season before being ousted by Marcus Bettenelli for the final six matches and the Play-Offs.

Despite not keeping a clean sheet, Bettenelli will likely retain his place initially, but the experienced Button will be ready to reclaim his spot should his rival slip up.

Some may assume that Sessegnon's spot at left-back is secure now that Malone has left but, after his impressive displays on the wing for England's victorious U19 Euro 2017 team this summer, Denis Odoi could well be a feature at left-back to accommodate the teenager's attacking intent.

Should Kalas return to Craven Cottage as expected he will again partner up with Tim Ream, as they did so successfully last season. Michael Madl and new signing Djalo will be the players pushing the starting two to keep their places.

Right-back picks itself after the attack-minded Ryan Fredericks impressed last season after his move from Bristol City, getting five assists in 32 appearances.

Fulham were a possession-hungry team last season, completing 2506 more passes than anyone else in the Championship, and as such Norwood and Cisse could have a hard time displacing the central midfield duo of Kevin McDonald and Stefan Johansen.

If Odoi is selected as left-back, then 17-year old starlet Sessegnon will get his chance in a more advanced role on the left-wing ahead of Floyd Ayite.

He scored five goals last season and the exciting left-sided player could be set for a season to remember.

After re-signing for a second consecutive loan spell, Piazon will likely get the nod ahead of Neeskens Kebano on the right wing - another area where Fulham have good strength in depth.

Tom Cairney, with 13 goals and 10 assists last season, is amongst the best players in the Championship and will surely take up his role as No.10 again, having ignored Premier League interest to sign a new deal.

It seems likely that Fulham will sign a striker before the window closes, with Sone Aluko and England U21 international Cauley Woodrow currently the two options to lead the line.

Aluko may get the nod initially, but it is time for Woodrow, who spent last season on loan at Burton, to show that he is the marksman that Fulham need.

Possible Fulham XI for 2017-18 season

4-2-3-1: Bettenelli; Fredericks, Ream, Kalas, Odoi; McDonald, Johansen; Piazon, Cairney, Sessegnon; Aluko
