Match Day Officials v Fulham (5/8/17)

The Football League have now announced the Match Day officials that will take charge of the game against Fulham this Saturday.

Norwich City travel to Fulham on Saturday August 5 for the game at Craven Cottage and the match carries a 3pm kick off.

Referee: James Linington
Assistant Refs: Nigel Lugg and Ian Cooper
Fourth Official: John Brooks

Match Day referee Linington took in 35 games in 2016/17 with a return of 146 yellow cards and four red cards.

That year he showed eight yellow cards on three occasions.

He took in 26 matches in 2015-16 and in those games, across all competitions and football divisions, he handed out a total of 74 yellow cards and four red cards.

He was most card happy in the match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Middlesbrough on October 24 with seven yellow cards shown.

Linington is required to make the short trip over from his home on the Isle of Wight when appointed to EFL fixtures. He is a very experienced official having refereed in the EFL for 10 seasons. In 2010, he was named fourth official for the FA Trophy Final at Wembley, and returned to the same stadium two weeks later to referee the League Two Play-Off Final between Dagenham and Redbridge and Rotherham United.

Let`s hope it`s not another repeat and more of our players edge closer to automatic bans.

The £5m-rated Fulham forward who could be Jokanovic's key to promotion next season

After the disappointment of missing out on the Premier League last season, there's pressure on the shoulders of Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic going into the new campaign.

The Cottagers manager has invested heavily in his squad this summer and has kept hold of some big players ahead of the big kick-off, and the £5 million arrival of Aboubakar Kamara has certainly got some areas of the Fulham faithful talking.

The forward has moved to Craven Cottage having helped former side SC Amiens into Ligue 1 last season and after scoring 11 goals in 29 games last season, Jokanovic made his move.

But what do we know about the French striker? Well, his goals-to-games ratio last season might not be overly terrific but it's his build-up play and pace in the forward line that has been impressive over the past season.

Amiens truly benefitted from his ability to bring other players into the game last time out and that's something Fulham fans should see when the new season gets underway too.

Whilst we saw some good things from the Cottagers last season, bringing in a striker that brings something different to the forward line was of paramount importance over the summer.

Kamara might be a bit of a risky investment but there's hope amongst supporters that he could bring the sort of pace and directness to this Fulham attack that saw them fall at the last hurdle last season.

He's a different sort of player to what they already have on their books and there's every hope that, with the right service, he could be a huge player next season.

Who knows, he might be what Fulham need to confirm that promotion next season.

Huddersfield beating Reading in play-off final gave Fulham star closure

The Royals had beaten the Whites in the semi finals, despite the west Londoners playing the better football over the course of the two legs

Huddersfield beating Reading in the Championship play-off final gave Fulham forward Sone Aluko closure after their play-off heartbreak.

The Royals had beaten the Whites in the semi finals, despite the west Londoners playing the better football over the course of the two legs.

While it would have hurt to have seen Jaap Stam's side go up instead of Fulham, once the play-off final was completed that was it as far as Aluko was concerned.

"Huddersfield beat Reading, they were up and that was closure," Aluko told City A.M.

"After that, you go on holiday, you move on and start looking forward to next season. It was pretty quick.

On the ball: Sone Aluko (Image: Harry Murphy/Getty Images)

"Of course, there was a sense of disappointment but that's football. Every time you play, you've got to earn the right to win, you can't base it off what we did before — winning 5-0 [vs Reading], 5-0 and 4-1 [vs Huddersfield] — you have to go out there and keep doing it every time.

"They earned the right to be there."

The aim at Craven Cottage is simple; go out there and ensure that Premier League football will be played on the banks of the Thames in 12 months time.

"We want to build on last season," says Aluko. "We're not satisfied with what we did last year.

On the turn: Sone Aluko (Image: Ben Hoskins/Getty Images)

"We're proud of what we did — at the start of last season we weren't tipped to be anywhere near the play-offs — but we want more.

"Every time you go out and play you have to earn the right. Whether we were tipped last season or not, whether we're tipped this year, it doesn't mean teams are going to come and go 'Fulham are a top team'.

"It's like Newcastle last year, they had to go out and win the league. No one gave it to them and we're no different. We know it's going to be tough this year but we fancy the challenge."

Scouting Reports: Aboubakar Kamara
The Scouting Report on Fulham's new big money striker.

As all of you Fulham fans know, Fulham have ended their nearly three year drought of permanently signing a striker by signing Aboubakara Kamara on a four year deal, with an option for a fifth. In hindsight, the drought should not be focused on as much by fans as some are, Chris Martin's deal, when he signed, was probably expected by all parties to turn permanent this June; however, that obviously did not come to fruition. In the previous window, we had McCormack, Smith, and Dembele, so focus on transfers was on other areas of the pitch. It only became a problem in the January window this year, in which we only signed Cyriac, who, for all his efforts, was never given a decent run in the squad so Fulham were never going to pick up his option. Thankfully, Fulham have revisited one of the most promising targets of that window, behind only Sergi Enrich, Aboubakar Kamara, and have brought him in on a long, permanent deal.

Name: Aboubakar Kamara

Club: Amiens

Appearances: 29

Goals: 11

Assists: 2

Transfermarkt.com Value: 1 million Euros

Rumored Fee: 4-6 million Euros depending on add-ons

Aboubakar Kamara has been a target for Fulham ever since last season's winter transfer window. He has finally been brought to the club, and was signed for a fairly large fee, a rumored four to six million Euros depending on add-ons, and who's sources you believe. Kamara has a decent track record in Ligue 2, and had been key to Amien's promotion from Ligue 2. One could draw a parallel to Jonathan Kodija's move to Bristol City a couple years ago. Kamara wasn't as much of a standout as Kodija in Ligue 2, but he definitely has a very promising makeup. He is 5'10", and is built like a linebacker. He adds a dimension to the striker spot that we haven't had since Moussa Dembele left the club. He has a lot of pace, and should look to get behind the defense and be physical with the center halves. He seems to be a hard worker, and with his build, looks like he can last the full 90 minutes. Fulham relies on the midfield to score many goals, and Kamara should be the perfect player to chase down the goalkeeper, and try to create space for the midfield to move into. He is a good finisher, and seems to have a nice right foot. Kamara has started training with the first team immediately, and seems to be set to play a role against Norwich. Whether or not he starts remains to be seen. I don't believe Kamara is the end of the buisness for strikers, I expect to see another big ticket striker who adds a different dimension to the team. Overall, I fully expect Kamara to perform for Fulham, and with another quality striker who adds another dimension to the team, we could have a top tier strike force on our hands.

Tom Cairney: Watching the play-off final was torture, to go up with Fulham now would be special
After last season's near miss,

Tom Cairney is looking forward to the new season with optimism.

Fresh from signing a new contract at Fulham this summer, the midfielder has been made club captain and has good reason to be excited about their chances of gaining promotion from the Championship.

The midfielder wants to lead Fulham back into the Premier League and erase the painful memory of losing in the play-offs last season. Even now, more than two months on, he still grimaces when he recalls that defeat to Reading at the Madejski Stadium.

Cairney looked crestfallen after the final whistle. He had given everything and, as he came to terms with the disappointment, stood motionless on the pitch with his hands on his hips, staring into the distance.

Around him thousands of Reading supporters were celebrating after they had run onto the playing surface. Many of his team-mates escaped down the tunnel but Cairney stayed out there for what felt like an age before he eventually trudged off.

"It is the lowest I have ever felt on a football pitch," says the 26-year-old. "It was pure disappointment. I really believed we could do something special. You just want to start the game again. But the chance has gone.

"It was hard with all the Reading fans in your face with camera phones. It was a weird moment.

"It took a good few weeks to get over it. I was on holiday watching the play-off final in Dubai. It was torture. You feel like it should be you there. It was an opportunity missed."

It was an unhappy end to what had been an outstanding season for Cairney, who established himself as one of the best players outside the Premier League. He was named EFL player of the year at the London Football Awards and made the PFA Championship Team of the Year.

Newcastle bid £20million for him in the summer but Fulham rejected the offer and Cairney last month signed a contract extension until 2021.

"I was delighted to sign the new deal," he says. "It has been the best time of my career down in London. Last season was the standout season in my career. I really like where the club are going and, hopefully, we can go one step further this season.

"Can we use last season as motivation? It is hard because it is such a long season and no two are the same.  But the dream is to get Fulham back into the Premier League, where I think they deserve to be. To do it would be special."

Fulham were adamant Cairney would not be sold when Newcastle made their approach.

"I love London," he says. "I do not want to move. It is a great place to live and I have settled quickly. I love life on and off the pitch and when you are happy you play your best football. You cannot put a price on happiness.

"If you are happy and you come into training with a smile on your face, you will always keep improving. It is something I did all of last season and I will look to do the same this season."

Cairney flourished during the last campaign as part of a midfield three with Kevin McDonald and Stefan Johansen.

"For the first time in a long time I was playing in my position," he says. "A lot of managers have played me on the right wing. I see myself as a central midfielder. And playing as part of a three with Kevin and Stefan I had a lot of freedom to get on the ball and play."

Cairney was the only player in the Championship to reach double figures in both goals (13) and assists (11) last season as Slavisa Jokanovic helped raise his game to new heights.

"The manager does not say much to me," explains Cairney. "He just tells me go and play and make us tick. It is as simple as that. The manager has been a breath of fresh air since he came in. Along with the owners, they deserve a lot of credit for turning the club around."

Fulham captain Cairney issues message as new season approaches

According to the Evening Standard, Fulham playmaker and captain Tom Cairney has expressed that it took him 'a good few weeks' to recover from the heartache of being knocked out of the Championship play-offs at the semi final stage by Reading, last season.

The former Blackburn man described the defeat as the 'lowest [he] has ever felt on a football pitch'  and that watching the final between eventual winners Huddersfield Town and conquerors Reading felt like 'torture'.

However, having signed a contract extension until 2021, amid rumours that newly-promoted Premier League outfit Newcastle United, Cairney predicts better times are around the corner in West London.

"I was delighted to sign the new deal," Cairney says of his extended deal. "It has been the best time of my career down in London. Last season was the standout season in my career. I really like where the club are going and, hopefully, we can go one step further this season."

When asked whether last season will spur his side on to go one better this time around, Cairney was not sure, but reiterated his commitment to leading his club into the top flight, for the first time since their relegation in 2014. "The dream is to get Fulham back into the Premier League, where I think they deserve to be. To do it would be special."
AdTech Ad

Amid talk that inspirational manager Jokanovic is not happy with the club's transfer policy, Cairney stated how much of an influence the Serbian is on the club, while also praising the club's board. "The manager has been a breath of fresh air since he came in. Along with the owners, they deserve a lot of credit for turning the club around," he concluded.

The Verdict:
You would be hard pushed to find a more gifted player in the second tier, nor one who is as integral to his side's plans as Tom Cairney. For all Fulham fans' and Jokanovic's frustrations over the lack of transfer activity, getting Cairney to commit his long-term future to the Cottagers is arguably their signing of the summer.

It is clear how much Cairney is enjoying life at Fulham and that he deeply believes the club is on the right track to make a return to the Premier League. Most of the pieces are in place, they just need a prolific hitman to finish the chances their attractive football creates, and they'll fancy their chances as much as anyone this time around.

Kamara's Aim

Aboubakar Kamara is aiming for successive top flight promotions following his recent transfer to Fulham.

The striker was an integral part of the SC Amiens side last season who reached Ligue 1 for the first time, and he's hoping to use that as inspiration as Fulham target the Premier League.

Speaking to the official website, Kamara said: "The side at Amiens was a very good side, spirited and full of life, and we achieved success.

"It's great what we did last season, the first time for Amiens. But this is now in the past, now I focus on what's in front.

"Today I'm at Fulham and I'll try to reproduce the same feat as last season with Amiens, I will give my best."

The conclusion of the 2016/17 Ligue 2 campaign captured the hearts of football fans, with Kamara's team netting a dramatic 96th minute winner to jump from sixth to second in the standings.

"I scored a goal in that final match against Reims," Kamara explained. "I had an opportunity to settle the game to make it 2-0 at the start of the second half but in the end we managed to get the winning goal in the last minute, the last few seconds in fact."

The 22-year-old was at Craven Cottage on Saturday to watch his future employers compete in their final pre-season friendly.

And having now trained with his new teammates after putting pen to paper, he cannot wait to get started.

"The first session went really well with all of the players," Kamara stated. "This is a wonderful training facility and I've had a very good first impression. I know Fulham is a good side that plays attractive football.

"I watched the match on Saturday, I loved the stadium, and everything there is well structured to allow the team to perform.

"This is a great project and I like the way the team plays. The Club has ambition, as do I. That's what I really like, and the fact that the Club has a beautiful history also."

With the 2017/18 Sky Bet Championship season a matter of days away, Kamara is hoping to be a big contributor as the Whites aim to bounce back from May's Play-Off woe.

"From what I have seen so far from the group, I think we can have a great season," he enthused. "We'll need to take each game as it comes, and we'll see where this will take us.

"I need to do my job in front of goal and I think if I'm able to do this then the fans will be pleased with me, and so will I.

"I don't know how many goals I'm going to be able to score here but we'll soon see what will happen. I'll be doing everything to bring goals and provide good football."

New Fulham striker issues message ahead of upcoming season

New Fulham striker Aboubakar Kamara has told the club's official website that he has his sights set on a personal promotion double with his new club.

Having secured a dramatic promotion as French Ligue 2 came to one of the most incredible conclusions in recent memory, with six teams in the race for the two promotion spots going into the final matches of the season, as Kamara's former club Amiens netted a 96th minute winner against Reims, the striker has expressed his desire to part of another promotion campaign in West London.

Expressing his admiration for his old club but outlining his focus on helping his new team mates go one further than last season, Kamara said, "The side at Amiens was a very good side, spirited and full of life, and we achieved success."

"It's great what we did last season, the first time for Amiens. But this is now in the past, now I focus on what's in front. Today I'm at Fulham and I'll try to reproduce the same feat as last season with Amiens, I will give my best."

In a statement which will please Fulham fans, after reported transfer target Diego Rolan's perceived lack of desire to join Fulham, Kamara stated just how happy he is to get started at Craven Cottage, "The first session went really well with all of the players," Kamara revealed.

"[Motspur Park] is a wonderful training facility and I've had a very good first impression. I know Fulham is a good side that plays attractive football. This is a great project and I like the way the team plays. [Fulham have] ambition, as do I," Kamara concluded.

The Verdict:
After the departures of Chris Martin and Cyriac left Slavisa Jokanovic with just Cauley Woodrow at his disposal, by way of striking options, it was clear that Fulham needed a goalscorer and Kamara will hope to be that man.

Even with the uninspired and uninspiring Martin up front last season, the Whites made it into the play-off semi finals, so if Kamara can bring a supply of guaranteed goals, Fulham's attacking play should see them become a major threat in the second tier.

Additionally, even if all players are enthusiastic when they first arrive, Kamara's demeanour is a welcome change from Martin's last season, and projected signing Rolan's during the summer – a striker who is fully committed to the cause should give the Fulham fans real cause for optimism.

Fulham defender speaks out about his decision to return to Craven Cottage

Speaking to West London Sport, Tomas Kalas has revealed that Fulham was the only Sky Bet Championship club he wanted to play for this season.

Fulham moved to secure the service of Kalas on a season-long loan from Chelsea for the second year running, after the defender helped the Cottagers reach the top-six last season.

The 24-year-old defender had the option to move to Hull City, with the Tigers looking to take advantage of Leonid Slutsky's relationship with Roman Abramovich, Chelsea's owner.

Kalas also revealed he had options to remain in the Premier League for the 2017/8 campaign, but opted to return to Craven Cottage, he said: "I was fighting to get back to Fulham.

"There were other options that made sense as well, but in terms of this league I didn't want to go anywhere else.

"Hull was an option and they're going to have a strong team. I have been touch with different clubs as well from the Premier League but that was all stuck at the one point and didn't go any further."

Kalas made 40 appearances across all competitions last season, including 38 in the Championship, as Fulham finished sixth in the table after the regular season.

The defender also featured in both legs of Fulham's play-off semi-final defeat to Reading.

Last season was not Kalas' first taste of Championship action, after the defender spent 18-months on-loan with Middlesbrough between January 2015 and the summer of 2016.

During the 2015/16 season, the defender made 26 appearances in the Championship, helping Boro to automatic promotion.

Kalas and Fulham begin their quest for promotion this weekend in the Championship, when they welcome Norwich City to Craven Cottage.

The Verdict
It is great news for Fulham and Jokanovic that Kalas has returned to Craven Cottage for a second season, particularly after his impressive performances last year.

Kalas was a crucial part of Jokanovic's squad last season, and with the nucleus of that squad still together at Craven Cottage, Fulham are expected to be challenging once again for promotion.

The experience Kalas picked up during his time with Boro and last season with Fulham will make him a key member of Jokanovic's squad.

Aluko: Fulham Will Fight For Promotion To EPL

Nigerian forward Sone Aluko has stated that Fulham's target is to right the wrong of failing to win promotion to the Premier League from the second-tier Championship last season.

Fulham missed the chance to pick one of the three available promotion tickets after losing 2-1 on aggregate to Reading in the play-offs last season.

Speaking ahead of Fulham's first game of the season against Norwich City at Craven Cottage on Saturday, Aluko told City AM: "We want to build on last season.

"We're not satisfied with what we did last year. We're proud of what we did — at the start of last season we weren't tipped to be anywhere near the play-offs — but we want more.

Fulham lost 3-0 to Wolfsburg in their last pre-season game last Saturday.

Rumour Mongering: Sheyi Ojo to Decide Between Derby County and Fulham

The in-demand winger is currently deciding on where he will head on loan with an answer likely on Thursday.

Alex Livesey/Getty Images

Liverpool's 20-year-old winger Sheyi Ojo may not have a role to play at Anfield this season, but that doesn't mean he isn't in high demand, with no less than five Championship clubs rumoured to be courting his signature. With Liverpool willing to loan him to any of them, the decision is now in Ojo's hands.

Derby County and Fulham are currently rumoured to be the frontrunners, though Birmingham City, Aston Villa, and previous favourites Middlesbrough remain in the mix. Premier League suitors Newcastle, though, are no longer a possible destination for Ojo for the coming season, on loan or otherwise.

The end result of all that should mean that, wherever Ojo ends up, he is sure to be valued by the manager and to see regular minutes at the Championship level, while at Liverpool Jürgen Klopp remains bullish on the player and believes that he has a future at the club—even if he would struggle to see this pitch this season.

Previously, Ojo has spend time on loan with Wigan and Wolves. In his three seasons since making his senior debut, he has made 43 total appearances and scored four goals—with three of those coming during his loan spell with Wolves, where he made 19 appearances in his most successful spell to date.

Stam On Transfer Patience As Aluko Admits Reading FC's Play-Off Final Heartache Provided 'Closure'
Will the Royals bag the Fulham winger?

It's the transfer saga that now has some serious legs to it as Jaap Stam admits Reading are interested in Sone Aluko, amid reports that Fulham have rebuffed a number of bids for the winger.

Although there are just 12 months left on his current contract, Cottagers boss Slavisa Jokanovic is hoping he doesn't have to sell up as this one seems set to rumble on for the remainder of the window.

"Everyone knows what type of system Aluko plays in," Stam told reporters on Wednesday. "If he was here he would fit into our style of play [and] he would be interesting for us."

With a number of players, particularly attackers, touted for a switch to the Madejski Stadium, the Dutchman admitted that a lot of deals have struggled to get off the ground.

"A lot of players have been mentioned and a lot are on the list," he continued. "I know the club has been in talks with certain players but it's difficult to get players in for certain reasons.

"We have spoken about what we can do and we don't have a budget where we can spend loads and loads of money. We need to be creative and inventive to bring players in and that's what we are trying to do.

"But we don't have the money like other teams to spend around £7-10 million on one player. We don't have the luxury to do that."

Sone Speaks Out
Also of note to Reading fans may be some quotes Aluko himself gave ahead of the new campaign, expressing how the Royals' Wembley loss to Huddersfield was integral to how he got over Fulham's own play-off heartbreak at his potential new club's hands.

"Huddersfield beat Reading, they were up and that was closure," Aluko said in an interview with City A.M. "After that, you go on holiday, you move on and start looking forward to next season. It was pretty quick.

"Of course, there was a sense of disappointment, but that's football. Every time you play, you've got to earn the right to win, you can't base it off what we did before — winning 5-0 [at home to Reading], 5-0 and 4-1 [away to Huddersfield] — you have to go out there and keep doing it every time. They earned the right to be there."

I had a very similar experience with my Fulham speedos.  Gutted, as I was hoping to look the business on Brighton beach this year.
