"Good timing with Piazon injury" – Fulham fans react to new attacker signing

Fulham have signed Sheyi Ojo on a season long loan deal from Liverpool, the club's official website confirmed yesterday.

Fulham have won the battle to sign the talented Liverpool starlet on loan, beating the likes of Newcastle United and Middlesbrough to his signature.

The Cottagers have swooped to add Sheyi Ojo to their squad just a day after Lucas Piazon was injured against Leeds United in midweek.

The on-loan Chelsea star suffered a broken leg and will face a lengthy spell on the sidelines but Liverpool's Sheyi Ojo has come in as a direct replacement.

The 20-year-old has previously had two loan spells in the Championship, playing for Wigan and Wolves.

The England under-20 international also has thirteen Liverpool appearances to his name and was part of the U20 World Cup winning squad this summer.

Here are how Fulham fans reacted on Twitter to the news that Sheyi Ojo had signed on a season long loan deal.

Preston North End reject bid from Cardiff City for full-back Greg Cunningham – reports

Cardiff City have reportedly seen a bid believed to be in the region of £2 million amid on-going talks between Bluebirds full-back Joe Bennett and Fulham.

It is believed that the Bluebirds are keen to bring in the 26 year-old former Bristol City full-back as Fulham have identified Joe Bennett as their number one full-back target.

However, it looks as though Preston North End have rebuffed the Bluebirds bid to sign Cunningham as a possible Bennett replacement.

And according to HITC, the Lilywhites have rejected a bid from Cardiff following his impressive start to the season.

Cunningham is a reliable full-back, making 91 appearances for the Bluebirds rivals Bristol City, where he registered a total of four goals in his three-year spell as Ashton Gate.

The one-time Manchester City defender then moved to preston North End in 2015 and he has gone onto play 59 times for the Lancashire-outfit.

Preston North End rate Cunningham highly and on the 24th of July he was appointed captain until Tom Clarke became fit to play again.

He is seen as integral part of the Lilywhites team, there is no doubt about that and he has also played for the Republic of Ireland on the international stage since under-17's level, making a total of four senior appearances.

With Fulham keen on taking Joe Bennett to Craven Cottage following the swap of Jazz Richards and Scott Malone last summer, it does make you wonder whether Warnock will come in with another bid for the Irish full-back.

However, due to him being so key for Alex Neil's side, it remains unlikely that Preston will let him go on the cheap and the Bluebirds may have to try their luck elsewhere.

Fulham defender Tim Ream impressed with Denis Odoi's stand-out performances in the heart of defence

The Belgian stepped into the void left by Tomas Kalas' red card and has been impressive in the two games he's played at centre back

Denis Odoi's impressive displays since being asked to fill in at centre-back for Fulham have not gone unnoticed.

Tomas Kalas' red card on Saturday saw Odoi thrown into the heart of the Whites' back-line, alongside Tim Ream, and it was a role he was asked to perform again at Leeds.

You would not know it was not his natural position on the back of his two performances there.

Odoi has coped admirably with everything that's been thrown at him, not that Ream expected anything else.

"He's done well. He's stepped in, obviously on Saturday against Reading and did ever so well," Ream said.

"He's one of those guys who is aggressive on the ball, he's got an engine that he can just go for days.

Goal time: Denis Odoi celebrates his goal against Wycombe (Image: Harry Murphy/Getty Images)

"His communication's great and again, it doesn't matter who I'm playing alongside or who is in the centre, it's just a matter of communication and knowing what each other is going to do.

"Obviously he's been around since last pre-season so we're well aware of what he's capable of.

"He's stepped in, in a time of need and really taken the position."

Championship: Ex-Derby County man WON'T be allowed to leave Birmingham just yet; Burton to miss out on Cauley Woodrow

Harry Redknapp wants to keep Ryan Shotton at St Andrews for now

Birmingham City manager Ryan Shotton says that defender Ryan Shotton won't be allowed to leave the club until a suitable replacement has been found.

Shotton, who joined the Midlands club from Derby County last year, has been linked with a move to Middlesbrough before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

"We've done a deal with Middlesbrough," Redknapp told the Birmingham Mail.

"We've said we need a replacement before we can let him go. We haven't signed a replacement. Two replacements we need.

"You need four centre-halves. You can't go into a season with two centre-halves."

Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough will not be re-signing Fulham forward Cauley Woodrow this summer - but they are getting closer to two new loan deals.

England under-21 international Woodrow had been a target for the Brewers, scoring five goals in 14 appearances.

Clough told the Burton Mail: "Cauley is going elsewhere. I think it's with a possible permanent at the end of the season - so Fulham would prefer him to go there.

"We understand that and we move on to the next targets."

Fulham boss in no rush with one Sessegnon brother but he could face Bristol Rovers in EFL Cup

Slavisa Jokanovic has commented on Steven Sessegnon's progress and future at Fulham

Fulham are not in any rush to put pressure on Steven Sessegnon, following his appearance in the EFL Cup recently against Wycombe Wanderers.

Cottagers fans may be quick to compare him to twin brother Ryan, who burst on to the scene last season and had attracted interest from the Premier League.

Boss Slavisa Jokanovic is happy with Steven's progress and is likely to slowly blood him into his first team squads moving forward.

That could be next week in the next round of the League Cup when Fulham take on Bristol Rovers at Craven Cottage.

"I can't compare between the two players. Yes, they are two brothers," said Jokanovic, speaking to Get West London.

"Steven is a young player and in the formation process, like Ryan, too.

"We will know in the near future if he has a chance of making the senior Fulham team regularly.

"He has made a good job so far, but it's important he is always ready for what is front of him.

"We'll assess him and we'll push him in a positive way - it will depend on both us and him on how well he does."

Cardiff Target Cunningham

Greg Cunningham has been targeted by Cardiff, according to the BBC.

Cardiff, who could lose Joe Bennett to Fulham, see Preston captain Cunningham, filling the void during Tom Clarke's injury absence, as an ideal left back replacement.

The BBC said: 'the left-back could be a replacement for Joe Bennett, who is weighing up an offer from Fulham. Fulham have met the release clause in Bennett's contract, with the player torn between staying at Cardiff and heading for Craven Cottage.'

We could say it doesn't matter to Preston what Bennett does, but all being well, as there could indeed be a knock-on impact to North End, the former Aston Villa defender will decide to stay with the current Championship leaders.

Cardiff boss Neil Warnock, quoted in the BBC report, confirmed Fulham interest in his Bennett and talks with other players but he wouldn't reveal if Cunningham was one of those the Bluebirds had approached.

He said: 'There is a clause in his contract ... and if they trigger that clause there's not a lot I can do.'

Adding: 'There's a few the media have not mentioned that I've been talking to. You'll just have to wait and see.'

Clearly Preston boss Alex Neil has faith in Cunningham, 27, or he wouldn't have handed the Republic of Ireland international the captain's armband on a temporary basis.

We'll find out soon enough if his own desire to remain at Deepdale will be tested?

Fulham open discussions with 25-year-old goalkeeper

According to Sky Sports News, Fulham have opened contract talks with Marcus Bettinelli.

Sky sources understand that Fulham and Bettinelli are locked in negotiations over a new deal and there is currently a four year deal on the table for the goalkeeper to sign.

Marcus Bettinelli is yet to sign this new contract and remains in talks with Fulham about the deal.

The 25-year-old has been the subject of widespread interest so far this summer.

Bristol City and Nottingham Forest have tried to poach the former England under-21 international from Championship rivals Fulham but the Cottagers have resisted all bids submitted for Bettinelli.

Chelsea were also keen on snapping up Marcus Bettinelli as a back-up option to Thibault Courtois.

However, the Blues have since signed former Manchester City stopper Willy Caballero to fill that role.

Bettinelli displaced David Button between the sticks towards the end of last season, playing the final six games of the campaign as Fulham were defeated in the play-off semi-finals.

This season, the Fulham academy product is yet to feature due to an injury, meaning that David Button and Marek Rodak have shared the games.

With two years remaining on his current deal, the West London outfit are desperate for Bettinelli to sign fresh terms.

The Verdict

Marcus Bettinelli shored things up between the sticks last year after a few error-riddled displays from David Button.

With Button, Bettinelli and Rodak on their books, Fulham have three decent Championship goalkeepers.

In order to fend off interest from other clubs, though, Fulham will need Bettinelli to sign this new deal sooner rather than later.

Club president says Fulham made four bids for their player, "I've always said he was untransferable"

Portuguese side Braga didn't bother waiting for Fulham to announce the transfer of Rui Fonte. They confirmed the move right after it was reported, and continue sharing new details about it.

Club president Antonio Salvador has spoken to the local press on Wednesday, and when talking about Fonte's move to Fulham, he opened up and revealed everything.

Salvador first claimed that Fonte "wasn't a player who Braga wanted to sell". Then he confirmed Fulham had been chasing the attacker for a while, and made several attempts before agreeing a deal.

"Unfortunately, the offer from this club came a month ago. We only came to a deal on the fourth bid. It started at four million, went to six, then six and a half million." (via O Jogo).

"I've always said he was untransferable, but Fulham also kept speaking to the player and Rui Fonte became aware of the conditions he would have at this club. From there, it was impossible to hold him and what was left for me was to stand for Braga's interests."

Fonte is joining Fulham on a €9.1m deal.

This amount will be split between Braga and Benfica, since the Lisbon side kept 50% of his rights when letting him go last summer.

English football won't be something new for Fonte as he already had earlier experiences at London clubs Arsenal and Crystal Palace.

Another reason why the adaptation shouldn't be a problem for Rui Fonte is that his brother José Fonte now plays for West Ham.

Sheyi Ojo's arrival throws Sone Aluko's future into doubt amid Fulham power struggle between board and manager

Aluko is currently at the centre of a long-running dispute between the Fulham board and the increasingly-frustrated manager Slavisa Jokanovic

Sone Aluko's Fulham future has been thrown into further doubt by the arrival of Sheyi Ojo on a season's long loan from Liverpool.

Aluko is currently at the centre of a long-running dispute between the Fulham board and the increasingly-frustrated manager Slavisa Jokanovic.

While Jokanovic is desperate to keep Aluko at Craven Cottage, saying it would be a "big mistake" to sell him, amid serious interest from Reading, the Fulham board have so far failed to secure Aluko's future with a new deal. Aluko would either like a new contract or to be sold but has been left in limbo as the club fail to give him either.

To cover the potential departure of Aluko, Fulham have brought in Liverpool youngster Ojo on loan this week. Fulham beat strong competition from Derby County, and earlier this window from Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Newcastle United and Middlesbrough, to land the 20-year-old winger.

Ojo turned down other clubs, including Newcastle, because of concerns over playing time, and he has joined Fulham with the expectation of playing.

It has been a tense summer at Craven Cottage as Jokanovic and the Fulham board have disagreed over the data-driven transfer policy.

Jokanovic has felt sidelined over transfers by data head Craig Kline and has considered his future, especially when Premier League vacancies opened up at Southampton and Crystal Palace. But Jokanovic is still in place, and having signed a new contract in February, he is tied to Fulham for another two years. That means Jokanovic would be expensive to get out of Fulham, and for now an uneasy truce holds.

Fulham's Cauley Woodrow set for Bristol City move to ease striker issue

Burton were thought to be leading the chase for the frontman

Fulham forward Cauley Woodrow could be set to join Bristol City and solve their striker issue.

Lee Johnson has just Famara Diedhiou and Freddie Hinds to call on as things stand, with Milan Djuric ruled out for two months and Matty Taylor still nursing a groin issue, although he is close to a return.

Reports suggest that Woodrow will join on loan with a view to a permanent move to Ashton Gate.

The 22-year-old was thought to be set for a return to Burton Albion, a club he scored five goals for last season in 14 appearances, but Nigel Clough has since said that Woodrow is heading elsewhere.

He told the Burton Mail earlier today: "Cauley is going elsewhere,"

"I think it's with a possible permanent at the end of the season - so Fulham would prefer him to go there," he said.

Woodrow has netted 12 times in 66 matches for Fulham, and has five assists.

His club are set to sign Braga attacker Rui Fonte.

Cauley Woodrow: Bristol City sign Fulham striker on loan

Cauley Woodrow played for England in the Under-21 European Championships in June

Bristol City have signed England Under-21 international striker Cauley Woodrow on a season-long loan from fellow Championship club Fulham.

The 22-year-old spent the second half of 2016-17 on loan at Burton Albion and the Brewers wanted him to return, but they could not agree terms with Fulham.

The former Luton and Southend loanee scored five times for Burton last term, plus twice for his parent club.

"He's been on our list for a long time," said head coach Lee Johnson.

He told BBC Radio Bristol: "I think he's found opportunities limited at Fulham, probably because of their playing style and them playing with one up front, but certainly in a two he gives us everything we want."

Bristol City are currently without Bosnia-Herzegovina striker Milan Djuric, who will be out for at least two months after having groin surgery on Tuesday.

Brewers 'always outbid' by Championship rivals
Burton boss Nigel Clough told his club's website on Thursday: "Cauley is going elsewhere, with a possible permanent at the end of the season so Fulham prefer him to go there.

"We understand that and we move on to the next targets.

"There were a couple of deals that Fulham put to us and a lot of clubs are putting in clauses where if you don't play a certain amount of games you pay a hefty fee at the end.

"That's always a problem for us, but if another club come in they will always outbid us in the Championship."

Fulham striker Cauley Woodrow completes Bristol City move ahead of Millwall game

The 22-year-old spent time at Burton Albion last season

Cauley Woodrow has completed his move to Bristol City.

The Fulham forward joins on loan for the remainder of the season and eases Lee Johnson's striker issue.

Woodrow, 22, will be available for City when they host Millwall at Ashton Gate on Saturday in the Sky Bet Championship.

He was rumoured to be on the move back to Burton Albion, but that was later knocked back by Brewers boss Nigel Clough, and he now joins the ranks at BS3.

Johnson now has three fit strikers at least for the weekend – Woodrow, Famara Diedhiou and Freddie Hinds.

Matty Taylor – who Charlton made enquiries about - is also thought to be closing in on a return.

"Cauley scored goals in the Championship with Burton last season and he's hungry to perform again," said Johnson, who has been tracking Woodrow for a while.

He netted five times for Burton on loan last season to help secure their safety in the Championship.

The England 21 international has scored 12 times in 66 matches for Fulham, and has five assists.

Fonte Signs

The Club is delighted to confirm the signing of Sporting Clube de Braga captain Rui Fonte for an undisclosed fee.

The 27-year-old has signed a three-year deal, with a Club option to extend by a further 12 months.

Comfortable playing as a number nine or in a wider position, Fonte already has two goals to his name from his four Braga appearances this season. He netted the winner in their 2-1 league victory over Portimonense, while he was also on target in a UEFA Europa League Qualifier against AIK Solna.

Fonte joined Braga permanently last summer following a successful loan spell, and he ended the season with 11 goals from 24 league starts, making him comfortably the club's top scorer as they finished fifth in the Primeira Liga.

After coming through the academy at Portuguese giants Sporting Clube de Portugal, Fonte's first stint in England saw him join Arsenal as a teenager, where he went on to make his professional debut in a 3-0 FA Cup victory over Wigan Athletic in November 2008.

The younger brother of West Ham United defender and European Championship winner Jose Fonte, he joined his sibling at Crystal Palace for a 10-game loan spell later that season, giving him a first taste of Championship football.

In the summer of 2009 Fonte returned to his homeland with former club Sporting Lisbon. He took in loan spells with Vitória Setúbal and Espanyol, before making his move to the latter permanent.

Fonte was back in Portugal by January 2013 when he signed a deal with Benfica, for whom he scored in the Final of the Taça de Portugal, the country's domestic cup competition, as they beat Porto on penalties.

Capped by Portugal at youth level from Under-16s upwards, Fonte scored eight times in 22 appearances for their Under-21 side. He has been called up for the senior team in the past, but is yet to win a full cap.

Speaking to fulhamfc.com after putting pen to paper Fonte expressed his delight having completed the move: "I am very happy and very excited to sign for Fulham, this is an amazing challenge. Fulham is a massive club and I'm looking forward to it.

"I wanted to say a big thank you to Braga who took me in as family and I'm thankful to all the staff and fans for their support during my time there."

Tony Khan commented: "Rui Fonte is a substantial talent, and I'm thrilled to welcome him to the Fulham Football Club.

"We have been interested in Rui for a long time. We have great aspirations for the future of this club, and today we have taken another step towards realising them by adding a striker known for his immense skill and selfless teamwork. COYW!"

GetWestLondon revealed in June that the Whites were tracking the former Arsenal and Crystal Palace man and they have finally completed the deal with the fee remaining undisclosed.

Fulham, and head coach Slavisa Jokanovic, have been looking for a striker since Chris Martin's tempestuous loan spell from Derby came to an end in May.

And Fonte is delighted to be back in England and sees the new season as an amazing challenge.

"I am very happy and very excited to sign for Fulham, this is an amazing challenge," he told the club's official website.

Rui Fonte: Fulham sign ex-Arsenal forward from Braga for undisclosed fee

Rui Fonte was Braga's top scorer in the Portuguese Primeira Liga last season, with 11 goals in 24 starts

Championship side Fulham have signed former Arsenal forward Rui Fonte for an undisclosed fee from Braga.

Fonte, who can play as a striker or a winger, has signed a three-year contract at Craven Cottage, with a club option for a further 12 months.

The 27-year-old, the brother of West Ham defender Jose Fonte, scored 16 goals in 43 league games for Braga.

He joined Arsenal from Sporting Lisbon in 2006, making his only appearance in a League Cup win over Wigan in 2008.

The former Portugal Under-21 international rejoined Sporting in 2009, and has since had spells with Espanyol, Benfica and Belenenses.
