Fulham storm to victory at Forest

Nottingham Forest 1 Fulham 3

Aboubakar Kamara, Stefan Johansen and Neeskens Kebano were all on target as Fulham won an end-to-end encounter at the City Ground.

Summer signing Kamara put the Whites in front with his second goal in as many games, but it was cancelled out by Forest's Daryl Murphy.

Both sides had chances, with Kamara hitting the post and Fulham keeper David Button denying Jason Cummings, before Johansen's curling left-footed effort found the top corner 17 minutes from time.

Kebano then finished it off late on when he fired home following an intelligent run and cut back from fellow substitute Yohan Mollo, for Fulham's second win in six away league games this season.

Summer signing Kamara had netted as a substitute against Middlesbrough on Saturday and was rewarded with only his second start of the season.

And he repaid that faith on 13 minutes, receiving a pass from Ryan Sessegnon and – as Forest defenders appealed in vain for offside – steadying himself before slipping the ball home.

Shortly after the goal, Sheyi Ojo had a shot blocked by Forest keeper Jordan Smith but the home side levelled when Murphy – who had earlier blazed over – nodded in a cross from former QPR man Armand Traore.

The chances continued to flow after the break. Johansen clipped the top of the bar while Cummings shot over and also forced a fine save from Button.

Kamara then hit the base of the near post having been played in by Johansen, who demonstrated his prowess from dead-ball situations after Ryan Fredericks' run was illegally halted.

Hearts were in Fulham mouths when Murphy had another good opportunity, shooting just wide after being fed by Zack Clough's flick, and that was to prove costly as Mollo teed up Kebano.

Fulham: Button; Fredericks, Kalas, Ream, Odoi (Norwood 46); McDonald, Johansen; Ojo (Kebano 58), Fonte (Mollo 67), Sessegnon; Kamara.
Subs not used: Bettinelli, Djalo, Cisse, Graham.

Nottingham Forest 1-3 Fulham

Aboubakar Kamara's first-half strike was his second of the season and his second in two games

Fulham scored two second-half goals as they inflicted a fifth defeat in six league games on a much-improved Nottingham Forest side.

The Reds trailed when Aboubakar Kamara shot home from Ryan Sessegnon's pass.

Forest were deservedly level by the break, Daryl Murphy neatly nodding in a fine Armand Traore cross.

But Stefan Johansen's superb free-kick halted Forest's momentum with less than 20 minutes left and substitute Neeskens Kebano sealed victory late on.

Kebano struck the third away goal after good work by fellow sub Yohan Mollo as last season's play-off finalists Fulham secured just their third league win this season.

The result was tough on a Forest side who looked the more likely to score for large parts of the second half.

Fulham's on-loan Chelsea defender Tomas Kalas cleared off the line from a fierce Kieran Dowell shot after keeper David Button had saved from Jason Cummings.

Murphy almost added to his sixth goal of the season, but was off target with a late right-foot shot with the score at 2-1.

But despite struggling to retain possession and looking nervy in defence, the visitors also had chances with the scores level.

Johansen saw a fine curling effort clip the top of the bar and Kamara also went close, before the Cottagers took control following Johansen's free-kick.

Nottingham Forest manager Mark Warburton: "We have to take our chances. If we score that second goal, this was our game.

"The small margins are really hurting us at the minute. They really, really are. Please take this the right way but it is fine margins that are costing us.

"That is this division and this is a relentless league. There are no excuses. The fans turned out in great numbers and our job has got to be to fill the City Ground. I hope people can see that we are getting there.

"But if you do not take chances and you do not defend your goal, you will pay the price. Daryl has had chances, Jason has had chances and Kieran has had chances - it is about the team, not individuals. But we had numerous chances as a team."

Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic: "It is always important for your confidence to win, particularly when we have just failed to win at home. Winning a game like this will only help.

"We must be satisfied because we head home with three points. We knew it was not going to be easy for us.

"In the first 45 minutes we did not adapt very well in the game; we started in shy fashion. We know Forest are a team who are fighting for the possession of the ball.

"In the second half, we tried to take more risks, to push forward and press them harder and we scored two more goals as well as hitting the post twice. I must be satisfied with the result, but I am also happy with our second-half performance."

Head Coach Reaction

Slaviša Jokanović praised his side's response in the second half of their victory over Nottingham Forest.

As he did in the last outing, Aboubakar Kamara struck the opening goal, but Daryl Murphy headed in to ensure the sides went into the break all square.

But Fulham took the game to their hosts after the restart, earning a 3-1 win courtesy of Stefan Johansen's free-kick and Neeskens Kebano's late clincher.

"We must be satisfied with the result as we're going back home with three points," Jokanović told the press after the match. "It wasn't easy for us.

"In the first 45 minutes we didn't adapt so well. We were a little bit shy to start with and didn't force Forest into mistakes.

"We know they're a team who want to fight for possession of the ball with us. We scored the goal, they scored a goal too, and we weren't satisfied.

"In the second half we tried to take a few more risks and try and push forward and press them a little bit harder, and in the end we scored two goals.

"We hit the woodwork two times, we created many things, and in the end I must be satisfied with the result, and especially our performance in the second 45 minutes."

When asked how important it was to take three points into Friday's local derby against Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road, Jokanović replied: "Especially after this situation where we didn't win this game at home [against Middlesbrough], we needed a game like tonight.

"It's always easier working after you've won the game. We must be focused and we must be ready for the next game against QPR."

Forest suffer fourth straight defeat in all competitions against Fulham

Fulham secured a 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest in a game that could have gone either way.
Daryl Murphy's header had cancelled out Aboubakar Kamara's early strike to ensure the two sides went in level at half-time.
But a superb Stefan Johansen free-kick and a late goal on the counter from substitute Neeskens Kebano ensured Slavisa Jokanovic's side claimed three points and left Mark Warburton to contemplate a fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions.
Murphy had almost made the breakthrough early on, when he latched onto an incisive pass from Kieran Dowell, before cutting back onto his left foot to fire a shot towards the far post that David Button saved well.
Jason Cummings had an effort from range that was not too far away, while Denis Odoi did the same for Fulham.
There was a small amount of controversy surrounding the game's opening goal in the 13th minute. When Ryan Sessegnon sent Kamara racing clear, he appeared to be a yard offside - although replays suggested it was a very tight call.
Either way, Kamara had no hesitation in beating Jordan Smith with a powerful strike.
Smith then denied Sheyi Ojo before Dowell drove a low shot narrowly wide for the home side.
Murphy continued to be Forest's main threat, doing brilliantly to flick the ball over his marker's head but then showing less quality to fire over the bar.
It felt like a Forest goal was coming - and it was. Cummings fed Armand Traore on the edge of the box and he whipped a cross to the far post, where Murphy was arriving to send a simple header back across goal and inside the far post 12 minutes before half time.
Cummings and Dowell both had shots charged down as Forest made a bright finish to the half.
When the two combined early in the second period, Cummings might have done better when presented with a shooting chance from 12 yards, but fired over. Stefan Johansen skimmed the bar with a shot for Fulham.
But Button saved again to deny Cummings as he sent a low shot towards the far post, with Tomas Kalas blocking brilliantly to deny Dowell's shot from the rebound.
Fulham's Kamara drove a shot against the foot of the post - and they did take the lead for a second time in the 72nd minute after Mills had brought an unsubtle halt to a Ryan Sessegnon run on the edge of the box.
Johansen stepped up to deliver an inch perfect free-kick, sent curling over the wall and high into the corner of the net.
Murphy was inches away from another equaliser as he beat Button with a low shot, but saw it roll wide of the post.
As Forest committed men forward in search of an equaliser, Fulham hit them on the break with Yohan Mollo feeding fellow sub Kebano to drive home off the underside of the bar in the 89th minute.

Kebano seals fine Fulham win
by Dan on September 26, 2017

Goals from Aboubakar Kamara, Stefan Johansen and substitute Neeskens Kebano secured Fulham's first league win at Nottingham Forest since 2000 tonight. Slavisa Jokanovic's side established an early lead through Kamara – who was a surprise starter after opening his account for the club against Middlesbrough on Saturday – and showed great character to shrug off the setback of conceding an equaliser to Daryl Murphy before scoring twice in the final twenty minutes.

Much of Fulham's impetus in the final quarter of the game came from some proactive Jokanovic substitutions. His decision to replace Denis Odoi with Oliver Norwood at half-time gave the visitors an extra man in central midfield, while Kebano and, especially the lively French winger Yohan Mollo, offered vital energy that drove the Whites forward when they might have been tempted to sit the lead delivered by Johansen's splendid free-kick.

This defeat represents Forest's fifth in six games and Mark Warburton cut a frustrated figure as the home side's desperate pressure came to nothing. The hosts had began with purpose but Daryl Murphy spurned a number of first half chances, the first of which came after three minutes when he drew a decent save from Button, but the worst saw him spoon a shot high into the Bridgford End after expertly turning Tomas Kalas inside out.

Fulham had began cautiously but gradually got into their stride. Odoi sent an ambitious drive narrowly over the bar from 20 yards out and Kamara's hulking presence up front was already causing problems for the Forest defence. A slick break saw Ryan Sessegnon slip Kamara clear and the former Amiens forward rattled in his second goal in his many games with a composed finish inside the near post. The visitors might have doubled their lead moments later when Sheyi Ojo was released by a fine Johansen pass but Jordan Smith repelled the Liverpool loanee's shot and Ben Osborn bravely blocked Rui Fonte's follow-up.

The visitors played plenty of football, but were punished for some slack defending after Forest had built up a head of steam. Jason Cummings latched onto Smith's miskicked clearance and was allowed far too much room to run into the Fulham half, playing the ball out to Armand Traore. The full-back's deep cross was guided back into the corner of the net by Murphy, who had effortlessly drifted away from Odoi into oceans of unguarded space at the far post. The hosts might have been in front before half-time as well but Kalas threw himself in front of a Cummings shot to preserve parity.

Fulham started the second half brightly with Ojo cutting in from the flank and curling an effort into Smith's gloves and Johansen clipping the crossbar with a curler from the edge of the box after excellent approach play from Fonte and Kamara. Jokanovic's side still looked shaky defensively and were indebted to a fine David Button save that denied Cummings before Ream blocked the rebound from Kieran Dowell.

The away side looked threatening on the counter and were the width of a post away from retaking the lead when Johansen's threaded ball released Kamara, whose pace took him away from the Forest defence and his low drive beat Smith but thudded against the near post. Both sides pushed men forward but the vital second goal arrived at least partly courtesy of a rampaging Ryan Fredericks run. The Fulham full-back carried the ball nearly 40 yards before he was crudely cut down by Matt Mills in a central area just outside the box. Johansen made light of Tom Cairney's continued absence by curling a wonderful free-kick into the top corner.

Smith saved smartly from Mollo and Forest's search for an equaliser saw them exert serious pressure on a Fulham defence that has a penchant for letting in late goals. Substitute Zach Clough unlocked the visting back-line with a slide-rule ball but Murphy dragged his shot wastefully past the far post when he seemed easier to find the net. The Irish international's miss was to prove costly as, after Kamara was foiled by a fine saving tackle from Michael Mancienne, Fulham secured all three points in the 89th minute.

Sessegnon sent Mollo scampering clear down the left but the French winger had the presence of mind to look up and play in Kebano, who had made a smart run into the centre of the box. The Congolese forward finished coolly and both celebrated wildly in front of the travelling Fulham support.

Slavisa Jokanovic insists Fulham must be satisfied with three points from Nottingham Forest win

Slavisa Jokanovic insists the side must be happy with the result as they look forward to the QPR derby on Friday

Slavisa Jokanovic insists Fulham must be satisfied with their performance after beating Nottingham Forest 3-1 at the City Ground.

Goals from Aboubakar Kamara, Stefan Johansen and Neeskens Kebano ensured the Whites left Nottingham with all three points as they produced a strong performance against Mark Warburton's side.

His side were far better in the second half than they were in the first, and with the QPR game looming on Friday night, Jokanovic believes Fulham must be happy to have won the game.

He said: "We must be satisfied with the result as we're going back home with three points, it wasn't easy for us.

"In the first 45 minutes we didn't adapt so well. We were a little bit shy to start with and didn't force Forest into mistakes.

"We know they're a team who want to fight for possession of the ball with us. We scored the goal, they scored a goal too, and we weren't satisfied.

"We hit the woodwork two times, we created many things, and in the end I must be satisfied with the result, and especially our performance in the second 45 minutes.

"Especially after this situation where we didn't win this game at home [against Middlesbrough], we needed a game like tonight.

"It's always easier working after you've won the game. We must be focused and we must be ready for the next game against QPR."

Win will lift Fulham ahead of derby – Jokanovic

Boss Slavisa Jokanovic said Fulham's victory at Nottingham Forest will give the side a morale boost ahead of Friday's derby at QPR.

Aboubakar Kamara, Stefan Johansen and Neeskens Kebano scored in the 3-1 win at the City Ground.

And Jokanovic predicted the buoyant mood in the camp would smooth over preparations for the QPR game.

"We must be satisfied with the result as we're going back home with three points," he said.

"Especially after we didn't win the game at home [against Middlesbrough on Saturday], we needed a game like tonight.

"It's always easier working after you've won the game. We must be focused and we must be ready for the next game against QPR."

Jokanovic salutes strong second-half display
by Dan on September 27, 2017

Slavisa Jokanovic praised his players for their fortitude and was delighted with a composed second half performance after Fulham recorded a crucial 3-1 win at Nottingham Forest last night.

The Whites recovered from the duel disappointment of defeat at Burton and letting in a late equaliser against Middlesbrough on Saturday to inflict Forest's sixth defeat of the season. Daryl Murphy's leveller before half time cancelled out a smartly taken opener from Aboubakar Kamara and Fulham could have crumbled under a renewed home onslaught, but Jokanovic was delighted with the way in which his side responded to being pegged back.

The Serbian felt Fulham were too timid in the first period, but really warmed to the task after the break:

We must be satisfied with the result as we're going back home with three points. It wasn't easy for us, In the first 45 minutes we didn't adapt so well. We were a little bit shy to start with and didn't force Forest into mistakes.

We know they're a team who want to fight for possession of the ball with us. We scored the goal, they scored a goal too, and we weren't satisfied. We hit the woodwork two times, we created many things, and in the end I must be satisfied with the result, and especially our performance in the second 45 minutes.

Jokanovic considered the win was crucial going into Friday night's local derby with Queen's Park Rangers and felt his players would take new reserves of confidence into the fixture at Loftus Road.

Especially after this situation where we didn't win this game at home [against Middlesbrough], we needed a game like tonight. It's always easier working after you've won the game. We must be focused and we must be ready for the next game against QPR.
