Liverpool loanee sent to hospital after suspected shoulder dislocation in Fulham's victory over QPR

The youngster looked in some discomfort as he was stretchered from the field in the second half.

Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic has said that Sheyi Ojo has gone to hospital after suffering a suspected dislocated shoulder.

The Liverpool loanee was stretchered off the field in the second half after a collision with QPR defender Joel Lynch in their 2-1 victory over the Hoops.

It appeared that Ojo fell awkwardly leading to the injury.

Speaking of the bad fortune, Jokanovic said: "We are not lucky this start of the season. We have one player more in the hospital.

"[It's a] dislocation of the shoulder. That's all we know."

Early reports suggested that the injury was to the youngster's collarbone, but this is to be confirmed over the coming days.

Fredericks hails Fulham's spirit
by Dan on September 30, 2017

Goalscorer Ryan Fredericks says Fulham's victory in the west London derby last night shows the Whites can scrap their way to success.

Slavisa Jokanovic's side had to withstand some serious QPR pressure during a prolonged spell of injury time after Conor Washington had halved the hosts' arrears but Fulham held firm to secure their second away win in thee days. The right back, whose deflected effort in the first half, had put the Whites in front, was delighted with his side's spirit.

Fredericks told Sky Sports after the final whistle:

It was scrappy towards the end. They brought on big Matt Smith and to be fair he caused carnage at the end, but we held on.

Teams have got to come onto us and we've got the players to play on the counter-attack. It took us a few weeks to get into our stride, but we've shown we can scrap it out too.

QPR 1-2 Fulham: Player ratings
by Dan on September 30, 2017

Man-to-man marking following Fulham's west London derby win at Loftus Road ...

David Button: Another assured display from the goalkeeper. Button was excellent when called upon – adjusting his feet to make a reaction save as a Luke Freeman corner nearly dropped in, tipping wide a drive from Massimo Luongo and making a superb stop from Freeman in that frenzied finish. He's coming for far more crosses and distributed the ball well from the back. 8

Ryan Fredericks: An all-action display from the flying full-back. It will be harsh if his first Fulham goal is taken away from him as a result of Jack Robinson's deflection as, rather like at the City Ground in midweek, his drive forward made a real difference. Always eager to get forward, Fredericks had already made a glorious chance for Rui Fonte and was solid in defence as well, bravely blocking shots from Freeman and Jamie Mackie. 8

Ryan Sessegnon: Looked a little vulnerable defensively during the early exhanges, but the teenager grew into the game and ended up proving a decisive influence at either end of the pitch. His energy carried him into several promising positions, creating an early chance for Sheyi Ojo, and seeing a second half effort deflected wide. Right at the death, the 17 year-old was in exactly the right place to scramble Smith's header off the line. 7

Tim Ream: Apart from one risky pass out of defence, Ream was immense – as we've come to expect since he stepped back into the side during the second half of last season. He was happy to bring the ball out but largely nullified Idrissa Sylla and Mackie with his positioning and communication continuing to be first class. 7

Tomas Kalas: The Czech centre back underlined just what a shrewd capture he was for a second season at this level by being commanding in the air and composed with the ball at his feet. Kalas was on the end of a few rough challenges but remained unruffled – and came into his own during that crazy finale. Showed great agility to get back and bail out David Button after Matt Smith's header appeared to be about to level the scores. 7

Kevin McDonald: The stand-in Fulham skipper might not have been at his imperious best, but McDonald showed just how crucial he has become to this side as the Whites absorbed pressure. His positioning and reading of the game might that Freeman only flickered rather than running the game as Ian Holloway would have wanted and he used the ball wisely, winning a whole host of physical challenges without going to ground. 7

Oliver Norwood: The Northern Irish international followed up a fine contribution from the substitute's bench at the City Ground with his most complete display since joining from Brighton on loan. Rangers simply couldn't get near him in the first half and Norwood proved highly effective in dictating the play, dropping into space to move the ball on and set up a number of speedy counter-attacks. Towards the end, he showed his steel – with a number of vital blocks and a superb defensive shift to protect Fulham's lead. 8

Stefan Johansen: Just as at Forest, the Norwegian popped up with a vital goal to give Fulham some precious breathing space. It was a sweet finish to a fine move that was crucial in its timing following Rui Fonte's penalty miss. Johansen was far more involved that he had been in the last few games, offering himself as an offensive option, but getting around the pitch to a great degree that he was combative in deeper areas and regular disrupting QPR's rhythm. 7

Sheyi Ojo: An already frustrating night for the Liverpool loanee became disastrous when he was stretchered off with a dislocated collarbone after smashing into the turf following a heavy Joel Lynch challenge. The teenager had looked most likely to break the deadlock early on for Fulham, but lacked composure in front of goal, being denied by Alex Smithies in a one-on-one and then hauled down by Robinson, even if the referee gave the decision the other way. He spurned a glorious chance by turning a Johansen cross wide – and now looks set to face a lengthy spell on the sidelines. 6

Yohan Mollo: Slavisa Jokanovic picked the French winger for his energy and endeavour and Mollo buzzed around the Loftus Road like a man possessed. He got through an awful lot of defensive work and found some excellent positions in the final third, but failed to pick the right option on a couple of occasions as a sight of goal opened up. Withdrawn after a lively hour, Mollo still looks like great value having arrived on a free transfer on deadline day. 6

Rui Fonte: The Portuguese striker showed plenty of character by refusing to let a dreadful penalty miss fester and created the crucial second goal moments later instead. Having sprinted to reach Neeskens Kebano's through pass, he had the composure to cut inside and locate Johansen with a measured pass that allowed the Norwegian to fire home with barely a moment's pause. Should have got on the scoresheet himself even before skying his penalty, when he ballooned an effort into the Loft from Fredericks' pass. 6

SUBSTITUTES

Neeskens Kebano: Another telling contribution off the bench from the Congolese winger. Kebano's pace and trickery totally befuddled the QPR defence – and he played a crucial part in Fulham's second with a forward pass that set Fonte away down the left. He did superbly to win the penalty from Lynch and was began a few breaks that released the rising pressure on the Fulham back line. 7

Denis Odoi: His introduction as a third centre half was designed to try and combat the aerial threat of Matt Smith but it only succeeded in inviting more pressure from the home side. The Belgian was kept busy but stuck to his task and delivered an assured display, only slipping once to allow Freeman to burst into the penalty area. 6

Ibrahima Cisse: Replaced Fonte in stoppage time – unbelievably whilst Fulham were defending a late corner – and added some physicality to great effect during the nine added minutes. 6

Fulham boss confirms Rui Fonte will remain on penalty duty after missing against QPR

Fonte had the opportunity to put the visitors 2-0 up against the Hoops, but hit his penalty high over Alex Smithies' crossbar, much to the delight of the home crowd.

Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic has confirmed that Rui Fonte will remain on penalty duty after he missed from 12 yards in spectacular style against QPR.

Fonte had the opportunity to put the visitors 2-0 up against the Hoops, but hit his penalty high over Alex Smithies' crossbar, much to the delight of the home crowd.

Despite the miss, Jokanovic was keen to keep it in perspective.

Speaking after the game, he said: "It's only one penalty that we missed this season. It's the first time we shoot and the first time we missed.

"I cannot explain it. I ordered that Rui take it in this situation. I expect we'll be successful next time. He can take another one."

Ian Holloway mocks 'Toblerone head' goalkeeper Alex Smithies as late miss costs QPR 'deserved' point

'Toblerone head': Smithies heads wide late on PA

QPR boss Ian Holloway insisted his side had deserved at least a point after slipping to a 2-1 defeat at home to Fulham.

Conor Washington's stoppage-time volley set the stage for a grandstand finish at Loftus Road as Holloway's side battled to overturn a two-goal deficit brought about by a Jack Robinson own goal and Stefan Johansen's late strike.

And the hosts could have claimed a dramatic equaliser in injury time when goalkeeper Alex Smithies rose highest to connect with a corner, only for his header to flash well wide of the Fulham goal.

"The boys are calling him Toblerone head after that," Holloway joked. "I wouldn't have sent him up if I'd known that!

"It's quite a surreal feeling when you see your team still fighting and the chances coming, and we would have got at least what we deserved, a point."

QPR had enjoyed much the better of the first half and were entitled to feel hard done by when a Ryan Fredericks shot cruelly deflected off Robinson and beyond Smithies.

But as the Rs chased an equaliser Fulham's threat grew on the counter, with Neeskens Kebano winning a penalty that Rui Fonte would smash over minutes before Johansen drove home the visitors' second from the edge of the area.

Though Holloway was eager to lavish praise on his side he fumed at their inability to hold Fulham at bay after they had been handed a reprieve by Fonte missing from the spot.

"The disappointing thing was the second goal, just after they missed a penalty – and justice was done there, no one was near him," Holloway insisted.

"But after that, they broke again and when that ball got squared, how can we allow two touches on the edge of our area, just after they've missed a penalty?

"We kept going and we should have got a point out of that. But such is life."

Smithies' header was far from the only chance QPR created in nine minutes of stoppage time brought about by Sheyi Ojo's dislocated shoulder.

Slavisa Jokanovic says Fulham will improve significantly after QPR win puts them a point off the play-offs

The Cottagers won 2-1 against the Hoops, and Jokanovic is keen to continue the hard work to improve further after the international break,

Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic says that his team are still gelling after recording a victory over west London rivals QPR last night.

The Cottagers won 2-1 against the Hoops, and Jokanovic is keen to continue the hard work to improve further after the international break.

Speaking after the game, he said: "We are a completely new team.

"Tonight was 50 per cent of the players from last season. We believe when we start working all together and push each other that all the players can be better than they actually are right now.

"We need to compete in training to be ready to compete during the competition. We are going to push each other to try and be successful."

Liverpool youngster Sheyi Ojo could be sidelined for three months after dislocating his shoulder in the London derby against Queens Park Rangers last night.

Ojo faces spell on sidelines after dislocating shoulder
by Dan on September 30, 2017

Sheyi Ojo is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after dislocating his shoulder during Fulham's 2-1 win at Queens Park Rangers last night.

The England European Under 19 championship winner, currently on loan at Craven Cottage from Liverpool, had to be stretchered off the field during the second half of the west London derby after thudding into the turf on his shoulder after a hefty challenge from Joel Lynch. Ojo, who immediately held his shoulder and called for treatment, was taken to hospital, where scans confirmed the extent of the injury.

Speaking after the final whistle, Fulham head coach Slavisa Jokanovic said:

We are not lucky at the start of this season. We have one player more in the hospital. It's a dislocation of the shoulder. That's all we know,

Ojo could be facing up to three months out after making just seven appearances for Fulham. He had endured a frustrating night at Loftus Road, missing two clear chances, and being penalised after being pulled back by Jack Robinson when he was set to sprint clear on goal.

Fredericks urges Fulham to 'keep climbing the table'
by Dan on September 30, 2017

Ryan Fredericks wasn't too bothered about his first Fulham goal being taken away from him after the Whites won the west London derby at Loftus Road last night.

The Fulham full-back was delighted that Slavisa Jokanovic's side picked up seven points from a tough week of football with a hard-fought win over QPR and has urged his team-mates to keep grafting to ensure that they continue to climb up the Championship table. The 2-1 win in Shepherd's Bush puts Fulham a point outside the play-off positions and Fredericks told FulhamFCTV that going on an unbeaten run was what the side were aiming for:

It's what we want. We need to climb up the table quickly. We haven't started too great, but the last six or seven days we've picked up seven points and we just need to keep on climbing.

Fredericks was pleased with Fulham's character, especially through nine nerve-wracking minutes of added time after Conor Washington pulled a goal back for the home side.

We knew that was going to happen when they bought big Matty Smith on. We know what he's about, we knew there was going to be pure balls in the box for the next forty minutes, but we rode it out through nine minutes of extra time as well. It puts us in a great place for the next game as well, we can play nice football and we can also do the other side and scrap it out.

He admitted to being mentally and physically drained after Fulham's third tough encounter in a week, but gave the impression of loving life in the hustle and bustle of the Championship.

We are, to be fair. That's what the Championship's about. You've got no time to rest and recover, it's just game after game. Now we've got a couple of weeks, hopefully slow it down a little bit and we'll be raring to go for the Preston game.

The goalscorer was philosophical about hearing that his first-half strike had been credited as an own goal by Jack Robinson, but was more than happy to have made a significant contribution to another derby win.

The lads after the game told me they've taken it away from me, which is very debatable. I thought it was on target myself. It would've been my first for Fulham as well. At the end of the day, I ain't too bothered, to be honest, it's not really my job to score goals – so if I can help contribute to the team, I'll claim it as a goal, an assist, whatever, whatever it goes down as I don't really care. The main thing is the three points.

Everyone knows we've easily got the potential and the players to be right up there, even though we didn't start off too great. I think everyone knows we're going to be climbing rapidly up the table. We've just got to stay calm, keep playing our stuff and we should be up there.

Huge blow for Fulham following impressive away win at QPR

Fulham have suffered a major blow in their push for promotion as it's been revealed on loan winger Sheyi Ojo suffered a serious shoulder injury in the win over QPR last night.

In a report by West London Sport, Cottagers manager Slavisa Jokanovic confirmed that the injury was 'some sort of dislocation'.

The news will be a bitter blow to both Ojo and Fulham, who had begun to start seeing the best of the Liverpool man following his summer move to Craven Cottage.

However, a shoulder injury like this one is never somthing which heels quick, and Ojo will likely miss at least a few weeks of action for Jokanovics' men. The Fulham manager bemoaned his luck this season with injuries, but did say he was hoping to see some of his stars return following the international break.

Fulham's win at Loftus Road last night moved the club up to 8th in the table, just one point shy of a playoff spot.

The Verdict
Ojo's loss will be a big one for Fulham. The youngster was just beginning to come into his own at the club and it is a bitter blow for the player and his manager.

However, the international break gives Jokanovic time to recoup and assess his options, and it might be that Ojo's injury is not as serious as first thought.

From Entertainers to Mercenaries: Fulham learn the art of winning ugly
The Whites have won two matches on the bounce, vitally grinding out results without hitting full form.

The final whistle deep into the 99th minute brought sweet relief to the Fulham faithful. The 3,000-odd away supporters rejoiced in the away end, erupting in a combination of pure elation and utter relief. Fulham left Loftus Road three points better off, courtesy of a 2-1 victory. And just like Tuesday night at the City Ground, Fulham won ugly.

Last season, the Cottagers deservedly gained a reputation as "the Entertainers," playing the best football in the division while scoring the most goals. On countless occasions Fulham played teams off the park, dominating possession, running up the score, and stringing together lovely passing moves.

Yet in recent matches the Whites have transitioned aptly to a playing style that easily could see them dubbed as "the Mercenaries." In this week's matches against Nottingham Forest and Queens Park Rangers, Fulham's performances have been filled with last-gasp clearances, lucky defensive escapes, goals against the run of play, and most importantly, the three points.

On Tuesday night, Fulham had a staggeringly low 46.4 percent possession, a huge outlier for the Whites, who rank fifth in the league in possession per match. In addition, Slavisa Jokanovic handed Aboubakar Kamara a starting spot up front, contributing to a far more direct approach as opposed to patient build up play.

And on Friday night, it was more of the same from Fulham; far from dominating the match, the Cottagers were often under the cosh. But with a combination of frantic defending and well-timed goals, Fulham did exactly enough to secure maximum points.

In a rather even first half, the Whites grabbed the lead at the perfect time in fortuitous circumstances. Fulham had threatened intermittently in the opening stages, most notably wasting a brilliant chance that fell to Rui Fonte, but as the clock ticked towards halftime, a draw seemed fair.

But "the Mercenaries" pay no attention to what is fair. And when the opening goal came just four minutes before the interval, Fulham couldn't believe their luck. Ryan Fredericks collected the ball from his right back position, cut in sharply into the center of the pitch, and sensing an opportunity to have a hit, let loose from thirty yards.

The shot looked destined to harmlessly land in the keepers' hands, yet Jack Robinson stuck out a foot and deflected the shot past a stranded Tom Smithies. Fulham had the crucial lead going into halftime; the West London derby was firmly in the hands of the inhabitants of SW6.

The second half brought more of the same: QPR pressed Fulham, but the Whites expertly doubled their lead in 85th minute. Surely the match was now killed off; yet it wouldn't quite be Fulham if they didn't make the closing stages interesting.

QPR pulled a goal back in stoppage time, and for the next eight minutes, pandemonium broke loose. Rangers rained shot upon shot on David Button's goal. Tomas Kalas executed a breathtaking scissor kick to clear a shot off the line, and with the very last kick of the match, QPR goalkeeper Smithies directed a free header wide. Fulham had survived in the end.

What makes these two matches significant is how starkly different the outcomes are compared to earlier results. In the opening weeks of the season, Fulham would have easily lost against Forest and QPR. Yet this week a new Fulham emerged, a Fulham who found a way to win.

By gritting out these two away wins, playing ugly, and benefitting from a generous degree of luck, Fulham showcased another dimension to their play. The mark of successful teams is those who can win when playing poorly; the Whites have certainly achieved that feat this week.

With a brutal September done and dusted, Fulham's attentions now turn to a more favorable October featuring winnable home matches. The anticipated arrivals of Tom Cairney and Rafa Soares into the first team set-up will be invaluable, hopefully propelling Fulham further up the table.

It very much appears Fulham have turned a corner, and with the ability to win ugly in their repertoire, the Whites are a team on a mission. COYW!

Tottenham fear £50m asking price as they prepare fresh bid for 17-year-old starlet

Tottenham are reportedly plotting a fresh bid for Fulham starlet Ryan Sessegnon, but they could be put off by a potential £50m valuation.

Spurs have long been linked with the 17-year-old, who has continued to impress for the Cottagers and has proven that he has a bright future ahead of him with a string of impressive performances.

As per The Sun, he signed a new deal with Fulham to extend his stay and continue to improve with the club, but it looks as though the Championship outfit will come under new pressure to keep him.

Tottenham are said to still be interested in Sessegnon, and despite competition from Manchester United, it's added that Mauricio Pochettino's side are the preferred destination of the youngster, and so they hold an advantage as they seek a deal.

However, it's noted that Fulham could ask for up to £50m for their defender, and that's surely a figure that will likely put off most interested clubs in a hurry never mind just Tottenham who could be forced to look elsewhere given that they've avoided spending big on individuals in general.

The youngster deserves plenty of credit though for staying at Fulham to continue his development with the opportunity of regular football. Nevertheless, it's natural that he'll have ambitions of playing in the Premier League, Champions League and featuring in the top flight for one of the top clubs in the country.

As for Fulham, they're in a strong position to make their demands, and so it now it comes down to whether or not a club can meet the valuation set and snap up one of the top young left-backs in England.

With Pochettino's reputation for developing the talent of young players, it surely makes a lot of sense to see him with Tottenham in the future, which could in turn spark an exit for Danny Rose.

Taylor-Crossdale scores hat-trick as Chelsea U18s beat Fulham

Striker Martell Taylor-Crossdale scored a hat-trick in 10 minutes for Chelsea's Under-18s as they beat Fulham 6-1 at the Blues' Cobham training ground.

The defending champions, who have now won all six of their opening six matches of the campaign – and scored 20 goals in the process – went behind to Jayden Harris' early opener – the first goal they have conceded this season.

But they hit back with five goals in the space of 14 minutes, the first of which was a superb volley from Billy Gilmour, who was signed from Glasgow Rangers during the summer.

Taylor-Crossdale (pictured above playing for England Under-16s) then tucked away Tariq Lamptey's cross and scored again to make it 3-1 after being set up by Reece James.

Daishawn Redan netted following Tariq Uwakwe's corner and then crossed from the right for Taylor-Crossdale to complete his hat-trick and leave Chelsea 5-1 up the interval.

Tino Anjorin, 15, completed the rout early in the second half his first goal at Under-18 level.

Report: Spurs plan 2018 bid for Ryan Sessegnon, but may have to pay club-record fee

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly plotting a new move for Fulham's Ryan Sessegnon.

According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are planning another move to sign Fulham teenager Ryan Sessegnon in 2018, having tracked him for some time.

Spurs have seen Ben Davies thrive at left wing back this season, with the Welshman notching two goals and two assists in six Premier League outings this season, whilst Danny Rose is working his way back to fitness.

However, after Rose suggested to The Sun in August that he was somewhat disgruntled in North London, Tottenham may well be looking for another left wing back in case Rose does end up leaving in the near future.

A player that many Spurs fans would love to see join the club, possibly as a replacement for Rose, is Fulham's Ryan Sessegnon, who has been linked with Spurs on a number of occasions.

Now, The Sun report that Tottenham are again plotting a new move for Sessegnon in 2018, with Spurs ready to either test the water in January, or wait until next summer to make their move.

It's claimed that Fulham are standing firm on a fee though, and would demand around £50million for one of the brightest talents to ever come out of the Cottagers' academy - a fee which would break Tottenham's transfer record.

Whether Daniel Levy would be willing to pay such a huge fee for a 17-year-old remains to be seen, but Tottenham would be getting a true wonderkid if they did pull off a deal.

The teenager, who can play at left back, left wing back or on the left of midfield, possesses superb pace as well as skill and end product, having hit six goals and five assists in 37 Championship appearances.

Staying in London whilst playing for a club who give opportunities to young players could be ideal for Sessegnon, but Spurs may well have to consider selling Rose before firming up their interest in the Fulham starlet.

I noticed Dembele was not in the Spurs line up yesterday, Perhaps Spurs should offer us a big fat fee plus Dembele for Sess.
