Former Muangthong coach Jokanovic racks up 100 games at Fulham

Former Muangthong United coach Slavisa Jokanovic celebrated his milestone 100th match in charge of English side Fulham at the weekend.

The Serbian, who was handed the reins at Craven Cottage two years ago, celebrated 100 games in charge with a 1-0 win over Birmingham courtesy of a 14th-minute winner from Sheyi Ojo, who is currently on loan from Liverpool.

While Fulham remain 12th in the English Championship and it does not look like they will be challenging for promotion this year, Jokanovic deserves credit for lasting two years in a league notorious for giving managers the cull.

His reign at the Cottagers is also the most enduring of any club in his managerial career, with his previous longest stint coming during his time with Thai giants Muangthong.

Under his guidance in 2012, the Twin Qilins cruised to what was then their third league crown, going the entire campaign undefeated and netting 78 goals in 34 matches.

That Muangthong squad assembled by Jokanovic was arguably one of the most dominant ever seen in Thai football, boasting foreign talent like Mario Gjurovski, Dagno Siaka and Paulo Rangel, as well as well as local stars such as Teerasil Dangda, Datsakorn Thonglao, Kawin Thamsatchanan and Panupong Wongsa.

After leaving Muangthong, the former Chelsea midfielder had spells in charge of Levski Sofia, Hercules, Watford and Maccabi Tel Aviv, before being named the successor to Kit Symons back in December 2015.

Man Utd & Tottenham Given Go-Ahead To Sign £50m Star In January

The January transfer window is just around the corner meaning clubs are working hard on potential deals so we'll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd and Tottenham have been boosted in their pursuit of Ryan Sessegnon...

Manchester United and Tottenham have been given the go-ahead to pursue a deal to sign £50m-rated Fulham defender Ryan Sessegnon this winter, according to a report in the Mirror.

Sessegnon has been on Fulham's books since he was a kid and progressed through the youth ranks to establish himself as a first team regular while he's also represented England at U19 youth level.

The 17-year-old has emerged as one of the most highly-rated players outside of the top flight after enjoying a breakthrough year at Cravan Cottage last season that saw him score 7 goals in 31 appearances.

The left-back has continued to impress this season and became the first 17-year-old since Dele Alli to score a hat-trick in one of England's top tiers after netting three times during a 5-4 win over Sheffield United last month.

Sessegnon's potential has attracted interest from the upper echelons of the Premier League with the Mirror claiming that Man Utd and Tottenham are among the clubs who've showing a keen interest.

Fulham managed to hold on to the teenager in the summer but the report cites The Sun as saying the Cottagers are now consigned to losing Sessegnon this winter and are already looking for his replacement ahead of cashing-in on their key men in January.

The news has alerted United and Spurs as the newspaper says they've now been given the go-ahead to step-up their pursuit of the full-back but any potential deal could cost upwards of £50m.

Left-back has been something of a problem area for United in recent years and 32-year-old converted midfielder Ashley Young is currently the preferred option for Jose Mourinho.

No doubt a long-term solution is needed and it looks like Sessegnon is one of United's prime targets so it will be interesting to see if they can lure the youngster to Old Trafford in January.

However, United will face stiff competition from Spurs as the north Londoners have seemingly earmarked Sessegnon as a potential replacement for Danny Rose – who's been strongly linked with a move after falling out-of-favour under Mauricio Pochettino.

We'll have to wait and see how things progress over the coming weeks but I think it's only a matter of time before Sessegnon joins a top club and he'd be a great signing for United or Spurs if either club could get a deal agreed.

Slavisa Jokanovic's best Fulham moments as we celebrate 100 games in charge at Craven Cottage

The Head coach celebrated 100 games in charge of Fulham in the 1-0 win over Birmingham - here's his best moments

Slavisa Jokanovic celebrated 100 games in charge of Fulham when his 2017/18 crop of stars welcomed Birmingham City to the Cottage on Saturday, December 9.

A 1-0 win saw the head coach celebrate the milestone with three points, pushing his win percentage ratio to 40% during his tenure in west London.

Fulham have been transformed under the Serbian, taking them from a struggling Championship side, imposing his playing style onto the team and then taking them to the Play-offs.

Despite some poor patches this season, the Cottagers remain in touching distance of the Play-offs as we enter the Christmas period and the side will be hoping to strengthen in January to make sure they're in contention during the second half of the season.

To celebrate the milestone, we've taken a look at the best moments from Jokanovic's reign at the club.

QPR 1-3 Fulham, February 13, 2016
Jokanovic got his first of 40 wins as Fulham boss when he took his struggling side to Loftus Road to take on QPR.

The Whites really clicked as Ross McCormack, Moussa Dembele and Tom Cairney all struck before half time to make it 3-0 in the first 45 against their west London rivals.

Tjaronn Chery scored a consolation goal but it wasn't enough as Fulham got their first win under Jokanovic.

Fulham had only won one match in the league since October before this game, a run of results that had left them four points above the relegation zone with Jokanovic overseein a period of five games without a win when he first joined the club.

But victory at Loftus Road lifted them to 18th position and put some breathing space between them and the drop zone.

Fulham 2-1 Cardiff, April 9, 2016
Cardiff came to Craven Cottage hunting the Play-off places, while Fulham were trying to get enough points to make sure it was mathematically impossible to get relegated, and victory against the Bluebirds pretty much all but secured that, putting the Whites ten points clear of the drop zone.

Russell Slade's side took the lead at the Cottage through Lex Immers, but Fulham came out fighting in the second half and Scott Parker's first goal of the season brought them level.

Up stepped Emerson Hyndman, the birthday boy, to smash in a winner in the 93rd minute to give Fulham a massive three points - their third win in a week.

Speaking after the game, the head coach said: "We've had one perfect week where we've won three games but in front of us is five games more.

"Mathematically, we are 10 points ahead. It's 15 points needed, so we need five points more to be 100 per cent sure."

Hyndman

Fulham 5-0 Huddersfield, October 29, 2016
One win in nine before this game had seen Fulham's strong start to the season slowly ebb away, but the 5-0 win against Huddersfield set the tone for the rest of the campaign and showed what the side were able to do.

Two Chris Martin goals, a Tomas Kalas strike, aided by Lucas Piazon and Kevin McDonald, saw Jokanovic's side romp to a 5-0 win over third placed Huddersfield, who would go on to get promoted come May.

That victory showed the style of play that Jokanovic was building at the club, and come the second part of the season Fulham were putting teams to the sword like this more weeks than not.

It was a taste of what was to come for the rest of the season for the Fulham faithful.

Fulham 1-1 Leeds United, March 7, 2017
Jokanovic's side made it six unbeaten against Play-off chasing Leeds when Cairney stepped up in the dying moments at the Cottage to curl the ball past Rob Green and send the Hammsermith End into raptures.

The draw saw them stay within five points of the Play-off places - something that would prove to be huge come the final day of the season, as well as give the side the belief they could actually get to the Play-offs, and win them.

After the game, Jokanovic said: "I'm really proud how we played. We actually scored two and we deserved three points.

"We made an accidental start with the own goal and we scored a legal score, but he referee does not see the situation. Then Tom scores a fantastic goal.

"We played all the football and created many, many chances. We shot 23 times on goal. We won only one point, but deserve three."

Newcastle United 1-3 Fulham, March 11, 2017
I think out of all the games I get to see covering Fulham, this is one that will forever live in my memory.

Four wins in their last six games had given the side a quiet confidence that they could go to St James' Park and get a result, but no one imagined it would be in the style they did it in.

First, Cairney curls one into the top bin from 25-yards after just fifteen minutes before Ryan Sessegon bagged two in eight minutes, sending the travelling Fulham fans crazy up with the gods while proceeding to shush 50,000 Geordies.

Daryl Murphy got a late consolation goal while Tim Ream missed a penalty, but it was one of the most complete performances I've seen under Jokanovic at Fulham.

Huddersfield 1-4 Fulham, April 22, 2017
Just over a month later and Fulham were at it again as they came from one down to pummel promotion rivals Huddersfield Town in their own backyard.

Chris Lowe put Huddersfield ahead after four minutes and it looked like it could be a long afternoon for the side, with Fulham chasing shadows in the early stages.

But then they woke up and Scott Malone equalised before Cairney put them ahead from the penalty spot.

It was then Stefan Johansen's turn to run amok as he scored twice before the end of the second half to make it 4-1 to Jokanovic's side.

We all know how the season ended, but at that point the football Jokanovic had got Fulham playing really made it look like they would be a Premier League outfit the following season.

What do the bookies think of Fulham's chances of finishing in the Play-off places this season?

Despite being pre-season favourites with a lot of bookies, you would get long odds now on Fulham finishing in the top six

The bookies don't think Fulham will finish in the top six this season, despite being just eight points off the Play-off places with 23 games left to play this season.

A 1-0 victory over Birmingham made it one defeat in five for Slavisa Jokanovic's team, but despite that, SkyBet are making them 11th favourites for a top six finish, giving them odds of 10/3 to finish in he Play-off spots come May.

It's a big change from the start of the season, where bookies were making Fulham one of the pre-season favourites for promotion, let alone a top six finish, and it shows just how difficult a start the side have had to the 2017/18 season.

If you want to look at a bet for them to win the Play-offs, you're talking even longer odds, with SkyBet placing Fulham at 14/1 to win the end of season showpiece - that's behind Brentford who are 11/1.

And the Bees are the favourites to win the London mini league too - they're 1/1 with SkyBet while Fulham are 11/10, with Millwall at 12/1 and QPR at 22/1.

Marcus Bettinelli: I want to stay at Fulham but playing regularly is important to me

The stopper made his first league start of the season in the 1-0 win over Birmingham and is now hoping to go on a good run with the team

Marcus Bettinelli wants to stay at Fulham for the foreseeable future but admits playing games are important, something he didn't get enough of last season.

The 25-year-old stopper signed a new deal in the summer that will see him stay at his boyhood club until 2020, with the option of a further year if the club decide to take it.

Having bide his time, he made his first league start of the season in the victory over Birmingham, keeping a clean sheet in the process, but it was his first start since the Play-off defeat to Reading.

And having signed his new deal in the summer, Bettinelli wants carry on playing regular football, something he believes will make it a successful season.

He said: "I signed a deal in the summer, things didn't pan out in pre-season because I got injured, but that's part and parcel of football, you can't plan for those things.

(Image: Ben Hoskins/Getty Images)

"At the end of the day I signed a nice contract here, I want to stay here but games are important to me and I didn't have enough last season.

"If I can stay in this position now until the end of the season, get on a run then it'll be a good season for me."

David Button had been the number one at Fulham since Bettinelli was injured in the pre-season defeat to Wolfsburg, but was dropped in favour of the 25-year-old, and he has no doubt Button will support him like he supported his colleague.

He added: "I did it pretty much all of last season, I've been no stranger to it.

"It's tough being a number two but that is part and parcel of being a footballer, we have to do that job and unfortunately for the 20 games this season I've had to do that job.

"I'm sure Button will support me now that I'm in his position like I supported him for the past 20 games, but me and Button are great friends, nothing will change that, so we'll keep working and keep getting better, both of us."

Report claims Fulham are looking for January replacements for Tottenham target Ryan Sessegnon

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on Fulham's Ryan Sessegnon.

According to The Sun, Fulham are already preparing for life without teen sensation Ryan Sessegnon, as they have started making contact over signing a new left back.

The Cottagers have have enjoyed a disappointing season so far, sitting eight points shy of the play-off places and 14 points shy of the automatic spots right now – but Sessegnon continues to impress.

Slavisa Jokanovic has seen Sessegnon hit four goals and two assists, with the 17-year-old starting every single Championship game so far this season.

Unsurprisingly though, Sessegnon is attracting major interest ahead of the January transfer window, given that he is one of English football's top young talents, with The Sun suggesting that Fulham are preparing for the worst.

It's claimed that Fulham have already started making contact with clubs and agents over potentially available left backs for the January, a possible indication that Sessegnon may be on the move.

Sky Sports recently reported that Sessegnon is Tottenham's top choice to replace Danny Rose in 2018, with the report stating that Spurs have wanted Sessegnon for over a year, suggesting that they will continue to pursue him if possible.

Tottenham may well be hoping that they can seal a deal for Sessegnon before a Premier League hijacks them, but interest in another left back may actually impact the future of fellow Fulham left back Rafa Soares.

The Portuguese youngster, on loan from Porto, has yet to start a single Championship game since his summer move, and whilst many may suggest that Sessegnon could be on the move, Soares being sent back to Porto instead may not be totally unrealistic.

After Wolves draw, now the real work can begin for Sunderland

This weekend Chris Coleman's Sunderland pulled off a shocking result when they drew with table-topping Wolves. Now that's done, the real work can begin.

Before the match, Sunderland had just 14 points compared to Wolves' 48. They had scored 26 to Wolves' 41 and conceded over double, letting 38 past compared to Wolves' 17.

In the game itself, Wolves had 23 shots to Sunderland's 1, they created 13 chances to Sunderland's 0, yet Sunderland found a way to grind it out.

It was an incredible result. Unthinkable when one considers just how bad Sunderland have been lately. New manager Chris Coleman has improved them, but to be so good against a side as solid as Wolves?

But that's the thing; in his first four games, Coleman knew Sunderland had to face-off against Aston Villa and Wolves, two high-flying teams that greatly outstrip his own in terms of quality.

They lost to Villa, but then they beat Burton (earning their first clean sheet of the season) and then they were drawing 0-0 with Reading when Callum McManaman got sent off; they subsequently lost the game 1-3, but the defeat was heavily influenced by the red card.

Then came Wolves, and a thrashing looked on the cards. But Sunderland were organised and resilient. They bent, sure, allowing 23 shots involves a lot of bending, but they did not break.

With that brutal test out of the way, now the real work can begin. Sunderland's next game is at home vs. Fulham. The Cottagers are 12th in the league with a goal difference of 0. They're not a hugely expansive side even though coltish left-back Ryan Sessegnon will need to be accounted for.

After Fulham is Birmingham, again at home. Birmingham are a side as miserable as Sunderland, with just 16 points they sit one place above the Black Cats in the table and have only scored 10 times all season.

Sure. next up is Sheffield United away and this is a tough one. The Blades are currently 6th, but Sunderland could be in luck because they're on a miserable run of form, having won just one of their last five, losing three of their last four games.

The last game of 2017 is away to Nottingham Forest, who are firmly mid-table in 11th. Forest have also lost three of their last five and have conceded more (35) than they've scored (31).

2018 begins with Barnsley visiting the Stadium of Light. Barnsley are in hideous form, having lost their last five games to leave them sitting 20th with 20 points. A definitely winnable game for Sunderland.

Those are five eminently winnable games for Sunderland. Alright Sheffield United could be tricky if they re-find their form, but if Sunderland can knick a point off Wolves then there's no reason to say that, with Chris Coleman's coaching having more effect as time goes on, Sunderland can't begin to seriously climb the table.

A goal of 11 points from those games (three wins and two draws) would be reasonable, and those points would lift Sunderland out of the mire and allow them to finally turn their season around.

How much is Manchester United and Tottenham target Ryan Sessegnon actually worth?

Teenager is constantly linked with a move away from Craven Cottage

The transfer window is opening again in less than a month's time.

And that means that Fulham fans will have to get used to their teenage star being linked with a move away from Craven Cottage.

Ryan Sessegnon was rumoured to be attracting interest from Tottenham in the summer, but the Whites stood firm in the face of mounting speculation.

And soon after his 17th birthday, the youngster signed his first professional contract with the club.

Now it is going to cost another club a hefty transfer fee to prise him away from Craven Cottage...but just how much?

Who wants him?
He is probably the most sought-after prospect in the Championship, with Manchester Untied also reportedly in the market now. And in this over-inflated climate, Fulham can expect a huge offer for the left-back's services.

Manchester United are in need of a left-sided defender, and have been linked with Tottenham's Danny Rose on a number of occasions too.

And if United were to move for Rose instead, then Spurs would then be in need of a replacement.

Comparisons with Rose
The figure touted for Rose is £45 million. He's an England international, an established Premier League player, touted as one of the best left-backs in the world before his injury at the end of last season.

But at 27 years old he has ten years on Sessegnon. So what are you paying for? Experience, or budding talent?

Sessegnon is a left-back by trade, but he has been devastating when pushed further forward by Whites manager Slavisa Jokanovic. See the incredible 5-4 win over Sheffield United as an example.

He bagged his first ever hat-trick in that game, and, after a slow start to the season, really came back to the fore once more.

Remember Gareth Bale?
In that respect you could suggest he is of the same ilk as Gareth Bale - once the most expensive player in the world when he left Spurs to join Real Madrid for a reported £100 million.

Bale started out as a left-back and moved further forward to use his pace and power to devastating effect. Sessegnon loves getting forward and I don't think it will be too long before he is utilised in a more attacking role on a permanent basis.

Fulham can, in all honesty, name their price. He's a teen sensation and there are no rules in the football transfer market these days. If Danny Rose is worth £40 million plus, then why shouldn't the Whites demand likewise? After all, if he continues on the upward trajectory he is already on, by the time he's 27, Sessegnon could be garnering interest for three times that figure.

Bizarre claims see Fulham give up on left-back after being told to watch videos of him

Already approaching Girondins de Bordeaux for Maxime Poundjé back in the summer, only to be turned down by the player, Fulham haven't given up on bringing in an extra left-back, if Girondinfos are to be believed.

According to the supposedly well-informed Twitter account, Slavisa Jokanovic's side have been trying to convince former Bayern Munich defender Diego Contento to join them.

Currently low on Jocelyn Gourvennec's pecking order, the 27-year-old has only played twice for the club this season, both times in Europa League qualifiers.

With a contract running out in 2018, there was every chance Fulham wanted to try and bring him for very little as early as January, but that won't be happening, as the side's way of going about things didn't exactly please him.

The Cottagers reportedly told him they were planning on sending scouts to Bordeaux's upcoming reserve games to judge whether or not they would make a move, but it seems Contento saw that as a lack of respect, reportedly telling them to just watch videos of what he's done previously instead.

Following that answer, Fulham have now allegedly moved on from the former Germany U20 international.

While it's hard to verify this account's information, it's worth noting that Le Parisien wrote an article about it last year, suggesting people within Girondins de Bordeaux were trying to work out who the person behind the account was... after some information leaked few were privy to.

We suppose that adds some weight to what they know.

Practice makes perfect for Ojo
by Dan on December 11, 2017

Sheyi Ojo revealed his fine finish that settled Fulham's Championship clash with Birmingham City on Saturday was the product of some special finishing drills down at Motspur Park.

The Liverpool loanee's third goal of the season saw off the struggling Blues but his close-range conversion of Neeskens Kebano's left-wing cross was anything but straightforward. The 20 year-old winger told Fulham FCTV after the final whistle that his goal owed more to finesse and hard graft on the training ground than the powerful approach he had previously favoured:

This week I've been working on my finishing a lot – receiving crosses into the box and luckily it managed to go in. I think I can definitely improve on it. I had another chance in the second half with [Ryan] Sess[egnon]. I should score, so there's a lot to improve as well.

The Under 20 World Cup winner also disclosed that his clever run to finish a flowing Fulham passing move was partly inspired by instructions from head coach Slavisa Jokanovic.

Playing on the right, the manager's keen on me attacking the near post whenever I can. I sort of sensed that Neeskens was going to cross it and I've run near post, it's come and I've just like glanced it in, rather than trying to smash it, which is the technique that I've been working on during the week in training. I'm just happy to help the team and get the three points.

Ojo was delighted that Fulham managed to bounce back from the disappointment of a below-par display at Brentford by claiming a vital victory that lifted the Whites back into the top half of the table.

That's what we wanted. We're trying to help the fans, give them a game that they enjoy and ultimately get the three points. Last week was really disappointing for us, so from day one in training we've been focusing on the next game and trying to get back to winning ways. We've managed to do that today – so we'll enjoy these three points, but it's back to another hard game against Sunderland.

Bettinelli plans to 'keep getting better'
by Dan on December 11, 2017

Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli believes the close competition between him and David Button for the Whites' number one jersey will inspire him to keep improving.

The former England under-21 custodian reclaimed his first-team spot for Saturday's tight win over Birmingham after Slavisa Jokanovic dropped former Brentford goalkeeper Button following the defeat at Griffin Park. Bettinelli, a popular figure with Fulham faithful after joining the club as a teenager, told Get West London's Ryan O'Donovan that needs regular football in order to continue his development.

I signed a deal in the summer, things didn't pan out in pre-season because I got injured, but that's part and parcel of football, you can't plan for those things. At the end of the day I signed a nice contract here, I want to stay here but games are important to me and I didn't have enough last season. If I can stay in this position now until the end of the season, get on a run then it'll be a good season for me.

The 25 year-old stopper, who has racked up 146 professional appearances, was a little rusty after four months on the sidelines but hasn't become downcast during a prolonged spell on the Fulham bench.

I did it pretty much all of last season, I've been no stranger to it. It's tough being a number two but that is part and parcel of being a footballer, we have to do that job and unfortunately for the 20 games this season I've had to do that job.

Bettinelli insisted that his good relationship with the benched Button won't be affected by Jokanovic's latest team selection.

I'm sure Butts will support me now that I'm in his position like I supported him for the past 20 games, but me and Butts are great friends, nothing will change that, so we'll keep working and keep getting better, both of us.

Prolific and versatile January Danny Rose replacement can make Tottenham EPL winners

As per reports, Tottenham have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of Fulham left-back Ryan Sessegnon, with the Championship outfit already identifying replacements for the teenage sensation.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino sees the £50million-rated England youth international as the perfect successor to the wantaway Danny Rose, and the next "Gareth Bale" could just turn out to be a hit in north London.

Sessegnon is adept at playing further upfront on the wing, and has already racked up 53 appearances for Fulham at 17.

Spurs rely on their full/wing backs a lot to help in attack, and the Manchester United-target is tailor-made for their style of play.

Sessegnon helped England to the European Under-19 Championships prize, emerging as highest goalscorer of the tournament as he bagged a brace against Germany in the finals.

The defender has already scored 4 goals and assisted another 2 this term, with the highlight a hattrick in Fulham's 5-4 win over Sheffield United.

Sessegnon boasts of assists and goals, and Tottenham can do with a lot of them if they are to win their first league title since 1961.
