St Johnstone eye Wales international George Williams as Tommy Wright slams failing stars

The Saints boss ripped into his players but hopes to strengthen his squad with three signings.

Tommy Wright last night admitted his St Johnstone players copped a rollicking as his transfer-window frustration boiled over after the 3-1 loss to Partick Thistle.

The Saints boss savaged his flops
following an eighth home game without victory. And fuming Wright warned "the gloves were off" as he threatened to wield the axe for tonight's Scottish Cup clash.

But last night the Perth boss was given the green light by chairman Steve Brown to draft in three players before
Wednesday's deadline.

He's hoping to land 22-year-old Wales international winger George Williams from Fulham on a loan deal within the next 24 hours. And Aberdeen's Scott Wright, 20, is also being targeted to add width to Wright's stuttering team.

Williams has seven caps for Wales and made his debut standing in for Real Madrid star Gareth Bale under previous manager Chris Coleman.

Wright is also stepping up attempts to secure a central midfielder who has been in his sights.

He said: "I had a right rant at the players and probably went over the top with it after the Partick defeat.

"There was a frustration that we need players in but haven't got anyone yet. There are three or four days left and they are going to be a big three or four for the club.

"We need to freshen it up, we need players to come in and give us a lift."

Wright had pledged wholesale changes for tonight's twice postponed Cliftonhill tie but could have seven stars missing through injury and suspension.

Wright revealed keeper Zander Clark, skipper Joe Shaughnessy, David
Wotherspoon, Scott Tanser and Stefan Scougall all picked up weekend knocks and Richard Foster is still suspended.

Former Dundalk striker David McMillan, Wright's only transfer window recruit, is also sidelined after being smashed by Jags keeper Tomas Cerny.

The Saints boss added: "McMillan is out. His face is badly beaten up so he'll probably have two black eyes. The way he landed has hurt his hamstring and we are waiting to find out if he has a tear."

Striker Denny Johnstone warned Saints have no time to dwell on the fallout from the Jags defeat.

He said: "It's great to have a game so soon so we can change the vibe around the place. Everyone was disappointed against Partick but we have to get over it and bring the positivity back.

"We have the belief we can go on a run. We know we have the ability but it's up to us to do it.

The manager wasn't happy on Saturday but the focus is on Albion Rovers now. We have to look forward as this is a big game.

"My first Scottish Cup game was for Morton at Cliftonhill.

"It was this time of year it was a heavy pitch and a tough game but I scored that day so hopefully I can do the same again."

Liverpool fans urge club to sign Ryan Sessegnon after latest Fulham display

Fulham starlet Ryan Sessegnon's brilliant season continued as he scored a brace in his team's 3-1 win against Barnsley at Oakwell on Saturday, and Liverpool fans have urged their club to buy the talented 17-year-old.

The versatile left-sided player, who could cost £50m according to The Times, has already made 62 first-team appearances for the Championship outfit despite his tender years, and his two goals against the Tykes were his 10th and 11th of the season in just 29 league games.

The England U19 international has already been heavily linked with the Reds' Premier League rivals Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, which is no surprise given the level of performances he has been giving and the huge potential that he has.

Liverpool supporters were quick to have their say on his latest display via social media, and while one said he is the "new Gareth Bale", another said "sign this Ryan Sessegnon up".

Tottenham drop interest in Championship wonderkid with 11 goals and 4 assists – reports

Tottenham Hotspur may not be signing English wonderkid Ryan Sessegnon in the January transfer window, claims a report from the Sun. The North Londoners have been one of the primary suitors of the 17-year old Sessegnon, who has been making serious waves in the English second-tier since his debut campaign last year.

Tottenham had tried to bring the England youth international to the club back in the summer window as well, but the Cottagers were able to convince Sessegnon to reject our advances and got him to sign a contract with the club.

But that doesn't seem to have discouraged the club as Spurs, reportedly, had another go at trying to land him in the ongoing transfer window. However, the report claims that Mauricio Pochettino's side have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of the full-back as Fulham have dug their heels and rebuffed the Lilywhites' attempts to sign the youngster.

The 17-year old burst on to the scenes last year for Fulham and soon established himself as an important member of the first-team under manager Slavisa Jokanovic. Sessegnon finished the 2016/17 campaign with 7 goals and 5 assists in 31 appearances in all competitions before going on to sign his first professional contract with the club, when he turned 17 in May last year.

The teenager has continued to enhance his burgeoning reputation with another scintillating season so far. In the ongoing season, Sessegnon has managed to improve his returns from last season already, having scored 11 goals in 29 Championship matches, along with 4 assists.

He has been in incredible form since the turn of the year and has found the back of the net on 6 occasions in his 4 league appearances in the new year. Capable of playing anywhere on the left flank, be it as a full-back, a wing-back or as a winger, Sessegnon is, no doubt, a special talent who is meant for bigger and better things.

We may have been thwarted in our efforts to sign him for now but the club should once again go back for him in the upcoming summer as it is clear that he is a special player who'd prove to be a wonderful acquisition for us.

Tottenham fans urge club to sign Ryan Sessegnon after he shines in Fulham win

Reported Tottenham Hotspur target Ryan Sessegnon continued his impressive run of form with two goals as Fulham beat Barnsley 3-1 at Oakwell on Saturday, and Spurs fans have urged their club to sign the 17-year-old.

The north London outfit have long been linked with a move for the talented teenager, who could cost £50m according to The Times, and his brace against the Tykes took his goal tally for the season to 11 in 29 Championship matches.

The versatile left-sided player, who can play as a left-back, left midfielder or left winger, has made 62 first-team appearances for the Cottagers despite his tender years, while he is already an England U19 international.

Tottenham supporters were quick to have their say on his latest display via social media, and while one said "stop messing around and do the sign and loan back deal ASAP", another said "we need to sign Ryan Sessegnon".

Everton fans urge club to sign Ryan Sessegnon after latest Fulham display

Fulham starlet Ryan Sessegnon continued his brilliant season with two more goals in his side's 3-1 win against Barnsley at Oakwell on Saturday, and Everton fans have urged their club to sign the 17-year-old.

The talented teenager could cost £50m when he leaves the Championship club according to The Times, and the Cottagers will be well within their rights to demand that sort of fee given his performances this term.

The England U19 international's brace against the Tykes took his tally for the campaign to 11 goals in 29 league games, while he has also provided a further four assists having played as a left-back, left midfielder and left winger this season.

Meanwhile, the Toffees have had Cuco Martina covering for the injured Leighton Baines at left-back in recent months, and it looks to be a position that needs strengthening either before the January transfer window slams shut on Wednesday, or in the summer.

Everton supporters were quick to have their say on Sessegnon's latest display via social media, and while one said "would absolutely love Everton to go out and sign him", another said "I really hope Everton break the bank and get Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham".

Would Freeman from QPR, that Fulham may pursue, be a good replacement for Cairney?
