Wolves could lose points
« on: March 09, 2018, 05:41:04 PM »
Wolves have been summoned to meet football league chiefs over concerns over their relationship with super agent Jorge Mendes.

They need to demonstrate their integrity but also to report on their financial position which is rumoured to be beyond permitted losses under financial fair play rules.

Should they fail , one possible sanction is points deduction.

Who knows, but one to watch

I don't know about the conflict of interest rules they're accused of breaching with their arrangement with Mendes but it has always been one of those things that doesn't smell right

There is pressure on them to go up this year because next year just on the FFP rules they will be having to sell players to avoid sanction

It sounds nasty but the way they've gone about things, it has always felt like cheating so I'd love to see it go tits up for them.

I know we spent our way to promotion under Al Fayed but back then everyone was allowed to do it

Given the protracted QPR saga I wouldn't hold my breath.

I thought that the FFP rules were over a 3 year period?
Surely they cannot be charged half way through that time?
Also, I thought some of their players are on loan and so no money has changed hands?
It's all very confusing.
Considering QPR have never been punished and they really took the Michael, Wolves have about 5 or 6 years to argue their case!

Seems they're in trouble as they were over £20 million in the red last year.

I have no idea how it will all work in reality but if the EFL are half sensible then if a team has lost over £20m one year (as wolves did last year), over £20m the next year (as I expect Wolves to do this year) and then in year 3 are not showing any sign of making a profit (ie selling players) then IMO the EFL would intervene at that stage, rather than wait another year for the season to conclude and accounts to be filed actually showing the £39m loss over 3 yrs.

Also if the EFL are half sensible then the QPR saga, which thus far has been decided in their favour at every stage, will teach and embolden them to take enforcement action quicker in future.

I'm still giving the EFL the benefit of the doubt in my mind by assuming the reason they're in no rush to punish QPR is the club is already stewing in its own juice at the miserable end of the table and won't be leaving the football league any time soon.

Of course with the EFL you never know what they'll do in reality.

Defo, but this is a bit more sinister than QPRs situation.

If it comes down to the footballing powers that be Asking the question "Should we sanction The mighty ex historically massive footballing Wolves and stop them getting back to the division they quite rightly should be playing in or let that little old club down by the Thames squeeze into the premiership after Wolves have bent the rules? I think we,ve got more chance of our chairman running naked down The Fulham Palace Road before each home game for a season.

I agree but couldn’t resist the chance of a cheap shot at them.

One of the allegations is that they are 'paying' their big name stars well under the true rate in their books to avoid further FPR problems with the difference presumably made up from other sources.
