I can't disagree with the fact that we need depth at CB. But I don't think we will sign Kalas for depth, he's probably too expensive for that. If we get him I think the intention will be to use him in the starting 11.

Would you still be ok with signing him if he turns out to be our only "true and tested" CB besides Ream next season?

Personally I would be delighted to sign Kalas for depth but as regular starter in the Prem? Probably not IMO. Even if he's good enough he's too injury prone to rely on as a regular starter.

What is too expensive in this day and age though? Rumoured fee for Kalas and Piazon is £8.5m combined - you might attribute £5 mill of that to Kalas. It's not a bad fee for a guy who has been part of our set up for the last two years, played a very good role in both play off run ventures and who is ultimately have a re-sale value.

While I think he is not the ultimate answer at CB, I certainly would not be unhappy with his signing.

Ok, I'll have to admit THAT seems like a good deal. That rumour must have slipped under my radar, I thought it was around 8.5m for Kalas alone???

Are people not concerned that we could have no signings for the start of pre season and an inadequate squad. The same thing happened last year meaning we weren't ready for the start of the season and we had a poor first half of the season. The team wasn't cohesive because the squad hadn't been together for very long.

I'm concerned that this could happen again this year which could really determine the outcome of the season. I really do feel we need to try and act more quickly so that the 'finalised' squad can have as much of the pre season together as they can. This inactivity for me is quite worrying
Ah yes, the dreaded "we've signed no players"worry.  Almost as bad as the "player we signed is not premier league quality" worry, which in turn is preferable to the "new signing is over the hill" worry, only leaving the "if they have signed for us, there must be something amiss with them, but I can't quite put my finger on it worry" as a catch-all worry to ensure that whatever the position we are in, worriers need never be short of a reason to worry.

We won our last game at Wembley, gave John Terry an appropriate send off, there's a World Cup on and the weathers quite nice too.  But it's the longest day tomorrow, so the nights will be drawing in giving us reasonable grounds to worry about the onset of winter.

Nope, not worried at all.

Fair enough. Enjoy the summer and WC first. This discussion won't really be proven or disproven until the season starts anyway.

We have 11 days until pre season so plenty of time to get a couple of players in for then anyway

Loftus-Cheek would be an amazing signing - sadly I think he could command a regular place in a more established Premier League team with a larger profile than ours (before we even factor in cost / wage expectations), so think it highly unlikely we'll see him in a Fulham shirt next season.

Wilshere on the other hand, would make an excellent pick-up on a free and would fit our style of play very well. Wage demands again may be high but hopefully not having a transfer fee could offset that somewhat when assessing his overall cost to get him in, plus at 26 is in the age range we seem to be generally going for over the last few seasons. Would be delighted to see you us go for him.

Deeney for £10m apparently available. anyone?

Aaaah! A wave of nostalgia sweeps over me. The Budgie Byrne of the 21st century.

And there we have the essence of this incredible thread.

Within a few posts: From Troy Deeney to Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
From the ridiculous to the sublime.

FFC1987

Deeney at 10m doesn't seem a bad deal considering the current market to be honest....

Bassey the warrior

Deeney could be good value at that price, but is he good with his feet? Always struck me as being more of a traditional target man who thrives with the long punt and lots of high balls, which isn't our game really.

Ah yes, well nostalgia ain't what it used to be.

Tell them to imagine a portly, one time decent, striker of declining output whose recruitment coincided with our relegation from the top division.

Exactly. What could possibly go wrong?
And, at peak, Deeney was never anything like as good as Bent.

I played in the same team as messrs Byrne and Hollins,,,,,,, unfortunately not the stars of divi - 1 Johnny and John but their brothers Micky and Tony ,,,,,,,, both very very good players.
The atmosphere's fresh and the debate lively.

Kalas is on holiday with bets and McDonald so he could be signing

Fredericks went to Vegas with that group of players. Holidaying together literally means nothing

Yeah but that was a team holiday out together by Tony khan by all accounts. This is just the three of them so clearly they must be good mates.

Betts is on holiday now with Jack Grimmer.  That obviously means Betts is off to Coventry

Point proven. Would be a good signing for them though haha

I did read that Arsenal are ready to release Wilshire but can't believe it is for free. If he is on a free I imagine there will be a long queue waiting to sign him.

Ordar

His contract has expired so he's a free agent. He'll probably end up at West Ham

They are in for every player with 2 feet. If you add up all the fees it must come to £250 mil.

I don't buy all this 'we're waiting until after the world cup to bring players in.' It doesn't seem to have stopped anyone else..
