Fulham keen to sign Chelsea duo

Fulham are keen to sign Chelsea pair Tomas Kalas and Lucas Piazon on permanent deals this summer.

They both played important roles during the Whites' promotion-winning campaign while on loan last season.

Kalas' loan deal included an option to sign the centre-back for £8.5m, but Fulham are reluctant to pay that much and are hoping to negotiate a lower fee.

Fulham also remain interested in making Oliver Norwood's loan permanent after having an offer rejected by Brighton in January.

The Whites will also try to sign Aleksandar Mitrovic and Matt Targett from Newcastle and Southampton respectively after they too made a huge impact while on loan at Craven Cottage.

Cup of Traditions

Further details of Fulham's pre-season schedule have now been confirmed.

The Whites will travel to Duisburg in Germany for the Cup of Traditions at the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena on Saturday 28th July.

It is a four-team tournament with Athletic Bilbao and MSV Duisburg two confirmed sides, with one further European team still to be announced.

Fulham will play a 45 minute match against one of the sides, with a further fixture – third-place play-off or the Final – depending on how successful we are in our initial outing.

Ticket information will be confirmed in due course.

Fulham aiming to sign Kalas and Piazon
by Dan on June 8, 2018

Fulham are aiming to conclude permanent deals for Chelsea pair Tomas Kalas and Lucas Piazon in the coming weeks, according to West London Sport.

The Whites are ready to enter another of negotiations with their neighbours over the future of two players who have spent the last two years on loan at Craven Cottage. Fulham were eager to try and sign both players on permanent deals last summer but felt priced out of that option – opting to extend their loan arrangements instead.

Kalas, who scored on international duty for the Czech Republic against Nigeria earlier this week, has already suggested he would be willing to sign for Fulham on a permanent basis. The 25 year-old was not as integral to Fulham's promotion challenge this year as he had been back in 2016/2017 – owing to a combination of injuries and the form of Denis Odoi as a stand-in centre back – but Slavisa Jokanovic believes he could comfortably make the step up to the top-flight.

The West London Sport article suggests that Fulham are able to sign Kalas for £8.5m under the terms of their current loan agreement, but the Whites are set to try and haggle with Chelsea over their valuation of a player, who has made just four first-team appearances in eight years at Stamford Bridge.

Fulham are also eager to try and tie up a deal for Lucas Piazon, the Brazilian forward, who has formed such a strong bond with the club's supporters during his two years at Craven Cottage. The 24 year-old looks to have little chance of breaking into the first team at his parent club, but has played a key part in both of Fulham's Championship campaigns despite successive seasons being disrupted by serious injuries. Over the two seasons, Piazon has scored 12 goals in 47 appearances and his versatility is known to be viewed by Jokanovic as a key asset.

Fulham season player ratings: Tim Ream and Ryan Sessegnon impress

We've rated all the Fulham players on the back of their promotion winning season to the Premier League

2017/18 is a season that will live long in the memory of Fulham fans as the club achieved promotion back to the Premier League after victory at Wembley in the play-off final.

It was some season for Slavisa Jokanovic's side, who hauled themselves from 17th in November to challenge for the automatic promotion spots and eventually beat Aston Villa 1-0 at Wembley to secure promotion.

Fulham took a while to find their feet in the Championship, not winning a game until the end of August when goals from Neeskens Kebano and Rui Fonte - his first in white - ensured they took all three points.

Only one loss in the next seven followed, but Fulham went six games without a win, including a winless October, to find themselves in 17th position after the 1-1 draw with Derby County on November 18.

But only two defeats in the next 28 games, a run that included 23 unbeaten games, saw the side challenge Cardiff City for the second automatic promotion spot, eventually missing out following a final day defeat to Birmingham City at St Andrew's.

A 2-1 aggregate win over Derby saw the side into the play-off final, where a 1-0 victory thanks to a single Tom Cairney goal saw scenes of jubilation as Fulham ensured promotion back to the Premier League after four years.

But how did the players perform during that memorable season?

Have a look through all the players that played a part in Fulham's promotion season to see how they scored out of 10 for the campaign, including head coach Jokanovic.

Marcus Bettinelli - 8

After injury in pre-season, Bettinelli won his place back in Fulham's goal mouth in December, with Jokanovic recalling him for the 1-0 victory over Birmingham City.

But since then Fulham never looked back, with Bettinelli gaining more and more confidence as the season progressed, really coming into his own as the number one.

Personally, I didn't think there was much to choose between David Button and Bettinelli, but nearly 50 games later I think Bettinelli has really proved himself as Fulham's best keeper and deserves his chance in the Premier League

David Button - 6

After being dropped at the business end of the previous campaign, Button seized his chance to reclaim the number one jersey when Bettinelli suffered injury in the pre-season game with Wolfsburg at the end of July.

He only managed to keep three clean sheets in the league before Jokanovic made the choice to drop him for Bettinelli, but I do think he made a number of strong saves and kept his side in games, despite the lack of clean sheets.

Floyd Ayite - 7

Ayite's season was marred with injury for the most part, but his influence out on the right side of Fulham's attack can't go unnoticed in the games he played.

A goal from halfway in the 2-0 victory over Aston Villa was probably the highlight of his campaign, but he was an outlet on the right in the games he managed to play in.

Injury does seem to be a reoccurring theme with Ayite and Fulham will be hopeful that he can keep injury free next season.

Tom Cairney - 9

The skipper suffered a knee injury in pre-season that just didn't seem to want to go away, and it was clear the side missed his influence in the early part of the campaign.

However, when he returned to the starting XI he was the metronome that kept Fulham ticking along during their quest for Premier League football.

His ability on the ball, his eye for a pass and his all round dominance showed why he was sought after in January and why Fulham are a different side with him in the team.

Cyrus Christie - 7

The Irishman was used sparingly after signing from Middlesbrough in January, but the reasons behind his capture were clear to see.

With Ryan Fredericks playing so well, Christie was never going to get as much game time this season but his ability going forward, his crossing and his athleticism will all be huge assets in the Premier League.

His assist for Aleksandar Mitrovic's goal at Bristol City was a particular highlight of his half season at Craven Cottage.

Ibrahima Cisse - 3

After arriving in the summer from Standard Liege, the season didn't quite work out for Cisse.

He made his debut in the season opener against Norwich City but never made the impact on the first team, with Jokanovic opting for the tried and tested trio of Cairney - Stefan Johansen - Kevin McDonald.

Eventually Cisse disappeared from the matchday 18 altogether and was touted for a loan move in January which never materialised.

Luca de la Torre - 6

The US international saw first team action during Fulham's rough patch in the middle of the season and gave a good account of himself in that time.

Clearly, it was a difficult period for the side, but the 20-year-old played well in an advanced midfield role and showed fans why Jokanovic has him training with the senior team.

It'll be hard for him to break into a Premier League Fulham next season, but there is certainly talent there.

Marcelo Djalo - 3

Like Cisse, Djalo came in during the summer as the centre back option but was never really up to the required standard for a top Championship defender.

He soon found himself down the pecking order at the Cottage, with Jokanovic preferring Denis Odoi at centre back, along with Tim Ream and Tomas Kalas.

Tayo Edun - 6

Edun made his senior league debut in the 1-1 draw with Derby back in November and gave a good account of himself, showing once again why Jokanovic had him training with the first team.

He looked confident on the ball in the midfield, despite playing against established Championship players and it's clear to see why he's rated highly at the Cottage.

The season even saw him train with England's senior side during one of the international breaks, which must've been a personal highlight for the youngster.

Rui Fonte - 6

Fonte was Fulham's most expensive signing of the summer but only managed to bag himself three goals.

As the season progressed, it became clear that Fonte wasn't the striker that Fulham needed up top and that he would be better in a deeper position where he could link the play between the midfield and the attack, as opposed to being the out and out striker.

Despite losing his place in the side, he continued to keep up his spirits in the dressing room and was an instrumental member of the side behind the scenes.

Ryan Fredericks - 8

A solid season from Fredericks, who proved himself to be one of the best right backs in the division, gaining a place in Team of the Season for the campaign.

He continued his form from the previous season and was a constant outlet on the right of the pitch, proving himself to be capable going forward and going back.

Fredericks even managed to keep a lid on his temper this campaign, showing a maturity that perhaps wasn't there in previous seasons, meaning he was key to Fulham's success and one of the first names on the team sheet.

Stefan Johansen - 8

Johansen had a slow start to the campaign and didn't hit top form until halfway through the season, but he did lead the club's scoring charts for a time, finishing the season with eight goals and nine assists.

He was key to Fulham's midfield trio, bridging the attack and defence as the box-to-box midfielder, and despite some poorer performance, including time spent as a false nine, it was a good season for the Norway skipper.

Tomas Kalas - 7

Kalas returned to the club in the summer and immediately picked up where he left off, continuing his partnership with Ream in the heart of defence.

He had a good season, despite being overshadowed by Ream's phenomenal performances, and clearly put a lot of effort and time in the gym, bulking up physically to cope with the demands of marking physical Championship defenders.

Kalas lost his place in the side to Denis Odoi after injury and couldn't remove the Belgian from the centre half slot, but his performances when he came on as a sub were of the same mould as his early campaign.

Aboubakar Kamara - 7

Despite looking like he might not be able to live up to the demands of the Championship early on his Fulham career, Kamara has come on leaps and bounds and is the most improved player for me.

He's probably the success story of the summer recruits and found a home out on the wing, as opposed to being a striker like he was originally signed for.

Still a young man, he's got a lot of learning to do but his pace and ability is clear to see - it'll be interesting to see how he develops next season but the future does look bright for the Frenchman.

Neeskens Kebano - 6

Despite playing in a lot of the early season games, Kebano seemed to fall out of favour as the campaign progressed, not even making the matchday squad towards the end.

He did well in the games he played, but it wasn't the season that the DR Congo man would've wanted to have after doing so well in his debut season the campaign before.

He made an impact off the bench in the appearances he made, but didn't have as much influence as other players.

Michael Madl - 3

Madl left the club in January and only made two appearances all season, with both of those in the League Cup.

He wasn't part of the club's plans but still supported the players in the dressing room.

Kevin McDonald - 9

Another strong campaign from the Scotsman, who finally got international recognition from his country.

His performances in front of the back four went a long way in ensuring Fulham were a much stronger defensive unit this season and it was probably one of McDonald's best seasons to date.

McDonald's leadership qualities were also vital in getting Fulham to the Premier League, something which was acknowledged by captain Cairney by allowing McDonald to lift the play-off trophy with him.

Aleksandar Mitrovic - 9

It's hard to argue against giving the loan man such a high score, despite him only being at Craven Cottage for half a season.

Since signing in January, he scored 12 goals for Fulham which helped fire the side to the play-offs and the Premier League, something which, without him, might not have happened.

He added a focal point to the Fulham attack that was badly needed and what's more, he managed to keep his discipline for Jokanovic, which was a huge positive for the side.

Yohan Mollo - 3

Mollo's attitude meant that he never had much of an impact at Fulham having signed in the summer, before being allowed to leave in January.

He certainly had ability on the ball, but he wasn't quite up to the standard required for a top Championship side.

Oliver Norwood - 7

Norwood proved himself to be a handy player for Fulham after signing on loan from Brighton in the summer.

He seemed to be a hybrid of McDonald and Cairney, possessing the skipper's passing abilities while also being able to hold in front of the back four and put in a tackle.

Despite not making as many appearances when Cairney returned, he was an ever-present for Jokanovic and played his role as a squad player well.

Denis Odoi - 7

Odoi, to everyone's surprise, established himself as part of Fulham's go-to centre back pairing and didn't look out of place, putting in a number of solid performances.

Despite being one of the smallest men in the side, his ability in the air was one of his strongest assets and he never looked like getting beaten, even by the bigger strikers in the league.

He got sent off at Wembley, but luckily Fulham still managed to pull through to reach the Premier League.

Sheyi Ojo - 5

Ojo started his loan spell well but never really seemed to win over the fans.

The ability he has is clear for everyone to see, but an injury in the middle of the season seemed to hamper his progression at Fulham, and with the arrival of Mitrovic in January, Ojo started to become the one loan man that had to miss out of the squad.

He didn't end the campaign in the best of form, but there is no doubting he has the potential to be a good player.

Matt O'Riley - 6

O'Riley made his debut in the EFL Cup against Wycombe Wanderers, and then played again at the Cottage against Bristol Rovers.

He is highly rated at Fulham and his performances in those two games, at the age of 16, showed exactly why - he was comfortable in possession and had an eye for a pass.

He was given his first pro deal on his 17th birthday, and despite suffering a bad injury midway through the season, the future is bright for O'Riley.

Lucas Piazon - 7

Piazon started the season well but suffered a nasty leg break in August, meaning he missed a large chunk of the campaign.

However, he recovered quicker than expected and Jokanovic used him frequently out on the right of the attack, using his ability on the ball and ability to allow others into play to good extent.

Piazon didn't really hold down the right wing spot and his performances probably dropped a bit as the season started to wind down, but it was still a good campaign from the Brazilian.

Tim Ream - 9

My player of the season, without a doubt.

Ream was a colossus in the heart of the defence and put in solid performance after solid performance for Fulham in what was probably his best ever season.

He was controlling in possession and dominant in the tackle and air, and it's clear that his performances in the heart of defence went a long way in making sure Fulham were a stronger defensive unit this season.

Ryan Sessegnon - 9

What a season the wonderkid enjoyed - Fulham's top scorer with 16 goals this season (including the play-offs) and one of the most influential players in the side.

His ability to read the game is far beyond his tender 18 years of age, while he's never looked out of place all campaign in a league that contained experienced professionals.

What's more is his conditioning - Sessegnon coped with the demands of regular Championship football extremely well, which went a long way to his fantastic season.

Steven Sessegnon - 6

Steven made his debut for Fulham in the EFL Cup and performed well in both games.

He made the bench for the side in the Championship this season too and regularly trained with the first team alongside the other Academy graduates, while he captained the U18s in the FA Youth Cup this year.

Not quite the season his twin had for obvious reasons, but another one with a bright future.

Matt Targett - 8

Came in during January and looked like he'd been at Fulham for years - Targett's performances at left back were nothing short of outstanding.

A trouble spot for half the campaign, Targett made the left back spot his own and was more than capable of doing what Jokanovic wants his full backs to do - get up and down the flanks all game long.

Strong in the tackle, comfortable on the ball and able to put in a decent cross, Targett's acquisition was a key reason in the side's form in the second half of the season.

Slavisa Jokanovic - 8

The mastermind behind Fulham's promotion on the pitch - Jokanovic didn't let the early season form get to him or the side and he managed to turn things round to take them 23 unbeaten.

His coolness rubbed off on his players who didn't seem to let the pressure get to them, producing on the most important stage of all.

And now Jokanovic will finally get the chance to test himself in the Premier League.

Meet the Fulham Academy graduates who could break into Jokanovic's first team next season

The Craven Cottage outfit possess an extremely good Academy - here's who will be hoping to make the step up next season

Fulham's Academy has gained prominence in English football in recent years after the emergence of endless talent from the youth ranks at Motspur Park.

An FA Youth Cup final with a team that included the likes of Moussa Dembele and Patrick Roberts, the emergence of Ryan Sessegnon and promotion to the Premier League in a season where four Academy graduates were given their debuts.

It's not bad going at all, and there's certainly more to come.

Under the stewardship of Academy director Huw Jennings, Fulham is now known as well-run and well-respected academy, that puts the needs of its players at the forefront of what they do, giving them a place to develop as players and as people.

With Sessegnon its poster boy, the academy at the club is getting more and more attention and with Slavisa Jokanovic at the helm of the first team, youth is being given a chance to rub shoulders with seasoned professionals.

A number of Academy graduates have trained with the first team at Fulham over the past few years - we've taken a look at some of those players that will be hoping to break into the first team into the coming season.

Steven Sessegnon

I think everyone connected with Fulham knows all about Steven, the twin brother of Ryan.

He made his first team debut at the start of last season in the Carabao Cup victory over Wycombe Wanderers, before making another appearance in the next round against Bristol Rovers.

S. Sessegnon has trained with the first team all season long alongside Ryan and made the bench for the 1-1 draw with Derby County back in November.

Steven Sessegnon against Chelsea (Photo by Paul Burgman)

He featured regularly for Peter Grant's U23 side last season and got international experience with England U17s as they won the U17 World Cup, and he'll be hoping to use that experience as he looks to follow his brother and break into the first team soon.

But time is on Steven's side, he's only 18 and despite Ryan tearing up the Championship last season, there's no rush or pressure on the right back to emulate his brother.

Matt O'Riley

The talented 17-year-old midfielder signed his first professional contract at Fulham on his 17th birthday having made his debut aged just 16 in the Carabao Cup earlier last season.

He's been at Fulham since U9 level and has been exposed to the first team by Jokanovic, who has allowed the youngster to train and be involved with the squad on matchdays.

O'Riley made the bench against Cardiff City at the start of last season and has seen himself linked with the links of Arsenal and Manchester City after a successful pre-season away with the first team.

Matt O'Riley in possession of the ball, pressured by Oliver Norwood (Image: Darren Pepe)

He scored his first goal in the senior side against QPR in a pre-season friendly and has impressed Jokanovic, who said in December: "[The contract] It's good, it's another 17-year-old player and in the last few months he is working with us.

"Technically he has impressed us in all the days and he's still young and working well, he's pushing himself to be strong and is fighting to be part of the competition team.

"Why not? It's another young man with great mentality who wants to learn things and soon we will know how much time he will need to be part of the Fulham competition squad."

It might not be too long before we see O'Riley in first team action.

Luca de la Torre

A bit older than the Sessegnons and O'Riley, de la Torre has been on the cusp of the first team for a couple of seasons now after impressing in the squad during the summer of 2016 before being given his debut in the EFL Cup against Leyton Orient.

He made five appearances in the league for Fulham this season, his last coming in the 6-0 victory over Burton Albion in January, but the American seems to be benefiting hugely from the exposure to the first team, even making his international debut for the USA in the 2-1 defeat to the Republic of Ireland in June.

De la Torre impressed against in the 1-1 draw with Derby, playing well in between the attack and midfield, and despite the side playing in the Premier League next season, the 20-year-old will be hoping that more exposure to top flight football will aid his development even more.

Luca de la Torre and Floyd Ayite battle for the ball (Image: Darren Pepe)

Tayo Edun

The 20-year-old made his first league start for Fulham last season in the 1-1 draw with Derby having made his senior debut the season before against Leyton Orient.

He won the European U19 Championships with England in the summer of 2017 alongside Ryan Sessegnon, despite getting sent off in the final against Portugal, and gained further exposure to the first team at Fulham under Jokanovic.

Edun made a further appearance against Millwall a week after the Derby game but didn't appear for the first team again that season, although he regularly trained with the senior side along with the other academy graduates.

Tayo Edun on the ball (Image: Darren Pepe)

He also got the chance to train with England's senior side in November as they prepared to face Germany, with Edun part of the U20 side who were also facing Germany.

Interestingly, Edun was on trial with American side Portland Timbers 2 in May, but was with the Fulham side at Wembley as they clinched promotion to the Premier League against Aston Villa.

Marlon Fossey

Fossey was spotted by Malcolm Elias, the Academy's Head of Recruitment, at the Jersey Festival when he was just 11, coming to Fulham shortly afterwards.

The 19-year-old is a full back by trade and fits the mould of what Jokanovic likes in his right and left backs - quick, athletic and likes to get on the ball and attack down the flanks.

Born in LA but holding dual US and UK nationality, Fossey has been training with the first team this season as Jokanovic continues to give Academy products exposure to his Fulham first team.

He's yet to make his first team debut for the side, but that opportunity may come in the early stages of the EFL Cup next season.

Luca Ashby-Hammond

The 17-year-old is one of two Academy graduate keepers training with the first team last season, having joined Fulham at the same time as O'Riley at U9 level.

Ashby-Hammond, whose older brother, Taye, is also part of the youth squads at the club, was called up to the England U17 squad for their U17 Euro tournament, where they were knocked out in the semi-finals to Holland.

He's also yet to make his debut for the senior side, but time is on his side and training alongside the likes of Marcus Bettinelli, who is also an Academy graduate, is only helping his development.

On a surprising note, one of the standout aspects of Ashby-Hammond's game is actually his penalty taking - he scored in the FA Youth Cup win over Huddersfield Town earlier in the season and also netted against Holland in the U17 Euros semi final.

Magnus Norman

The 21-year-old signed his first professional deal at Craven Cottage back in 2014 and has recently penned an extension that will see him remain at the club until 2019, with a club option for a further year.

He's the longest serving player on Fulham's books, having joined in June 2006 and has been part of the extended matchday squad all season long.

He made the bench against Southampton in the FA Cup third round and has represented the Whites at every level so far.

There's every chance he could make his debut for the side next season in the earlier stages of the EFL Cup and go on and push the more senior goalkeepers in the side.

Marek Rodak

The 21-year-old spent last season out on loan at Rotherham United and won promotion to the Championship with a play-off victory at Wembley Stadium.

Midway through that spell he extended his Fulham contract until 2020, having made his first team debut for the side in the victory over Wycombe in the Carabao Cup.

He was part of the U18 side that reached the FA Youth Cup final in 2014, losing to Chelsea over two legs and after a successful spell at Rotherham, Rodak will be looking to continue his development with Fulham in the coming season.

(Image: Alex Livesey/Getty Images)

Mattias Kait

Another 19-year-old who, at the moment, is finding more senior game time with his national side, Estonia, than with the Fulham first team.

The creative midfielder recently won Estonia's Young Player of the Year award for his exploits with the senior side, having played four World Cup qualifiers this season, scoring two goals - one against Cyprus in the 1-0 win and another four days later in the 6-0 win over Gibraltar.

He was included in the 18 for the 1-1 draw with Derby during the first half of the season and spent the rest of the season on loan with Scottish Premier League side Ross County.

Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson

Another 19-year-old, the Icelandic youngster is yet to make a first team appearance for Fulham yet but has been busy making a name for himself with Peter Grant's U23s last season.

He was in fine form last season and was the best player on the park in the U21 Checkatrade Trophy tie against Charlton.

Thorsteinsson is comfortable on the ball, has a bagful of tricks and loves a long range goal, if he continues how he's progressing last season inclusion with the first team squad could well be on the cards

Fulham want to re-sign loan stars that helped fire them into Premier League

Fulham want to keep their promotion-winning core together next season and will try to sign the loan players that helped them back into the Premier League this summer, Sky Sports News understands.

The Whites are keen to land Chelsea duo Tomas Kalas and Lucas Piazon, Brighton's Oliver Norwood, Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic and Southampton left-back Matt Targett after their successful season-long spells at Craven Cottage.

Kalas' loan has an £8.5m option included but Fulham have a different valuation of the player and are hoping to negotiate a lower fee with Chelsea, who have allowed both the centre-back and attacker Piazon to spend two seasons at their local rivals.

Fulham saw an offer for midfielder Norwood rejected in the January transfer window, and he was understood to favour a permanent switch to west London at the time.

Mitrovic and Targett played especially crucial roles as the Whites went on a 23-game unbeaten run and finished third in the Championship, before beating Derby and Aston Villa in the play-offs, and they are also considered top transfer targets this summer.

Mitrovic scored 12 goals after joining on loan from Newcastle on January's Deadline Day, while Targett made 21 appearances after also joining in the January window.

Fulham stay? Newcastle's Aleksandar Mitrovic reveals preferred destination

Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has told Serbian news source RTS that he would be willing to remain at Fulham should the club make him an offer.

The 23-year-old made an impressive impact in the Championship at Craven Cottage last season helping to fire the Whites to Premier League promotion.

Mitrovic has confirmed that the attraction of living in London and playing Premier League football would see him accept the Cottagers' offer should they push for a permanent deal this summer.

The Newcastle forward netted 12 goals in 17 Championship appearances last season for Fulham playing an integral role in helping them to win the play-offs and earn promotion.

Mitrovic's response to RTS' question asking whether he would consider joining Fulham permanently:

"Here? Yeah if they made an offer i would definitely join."

The Serbian forward, who will be playing at the World Cup this summer, also added that he and his family enjoy living in London.

With the London club now in the Premier League and the forward having enjoyed his time in the capital, he claims to be keen on a return to Fulham.

The Magpies are keen to recoup in excess of the £20m which they paid to land the forward, with Rafa Benitez making his top priority this summer signing a new striker.

Crystal Palace have also joined Fulham in the race to capture the player's signature this summer.

Mitrovic – 'If Fulham made an offer, I'd definitely join'
by Dan on June 8, 2018

Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has told the Serbian media that he would be very happy to stay at Fulham if the Whites tabled an offer to turn his loan into a permanent deal.

The 23 year-old forward is currently preparing for this summer's World Cup with Serbia and Slavisa Jokanovic, who proved pivotal in bringing him to Craven Cottage in January, is known to be keen to want to sign his compatriot on a permanent basis. With Mitrovic appearing to have been frozen out by Magpies manager Rafa Benitez, the only potential stumbling blocks to a deal would be Newcastle's valuation of the player and whether Mitrovic's fine form attracts other suitors.

Mitrovic, who scored 12 goals in 17 league appearances as Fulham won promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs, has made it abundantly clear that he would be open to remaining in London. He told Serbian website RTS:

Here? Yeah, if they made an offer, I would definitely join.

Newcastle are unlikely to want to sell Mitrovic during the World Cup – frustrating Fulham's desire to wrap up a quick deal. The Magpies are eager to realise as big a transfer fee for the feisty forward as possible – and English press reports have suggested that Crystal Palace, managed by former Fulham boss Roy Hodgson, may well be a potential rival for Mitrovic's services.

Tottenham tipped to snare exciting star ahead of Premier League rivals

TOTTENHAM have been tipped to snap up Fulham sensation Ryan Sessegnon.

Sessegnon has been in stunning form for the Cottagers this season, scoring 15 goals and providing six assists in 46 Championship games.

The 17-year-old's performances saw him named the Championship player of the season and young player of the season.

His form has not gone unnoticed but the Premier League's elite either.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with a swoop.

But according to bookies Coral, Tottenham are the 6/4 favourites [from 9/4] to secure his services this summer after strong support in the betting.

"We've seen a wave of bets on Sessegnon joining Spurs this summer over the last few days and it's clear that many people think should the highly rated teenager leave Fulham, then Tottenham are at the front of the queue for his signature," said Coral's Harry Aitkenhead.

Despite speculation linking him with Spurs, Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn would love to see Sessegnon at the Emirates.

He said: "I think he's a fantastic player.

Ryan Sessegnon has been linked with Tottenham and Man Utd

"I think Arsenal's problem particularly over the last couple of seasons has been their inconsistency defensively and that's why they've been knocked out of the Europa League over the two legs.

"It seems strange to say that Arsenal probably were the better team over two legs and we're looking at two defensive errors that have cost them the chance of going through.

"They need to increase the quality but I do believe the structure defensively is going to have to change slightly than it is at the moment because we play far too open for the players we have in our squad."

Report: Fulham want Chelsea's Tomas Kalas for cheaper than £8.5m

Newly-promoted Premier League club Fulham are set to enter negotiations with local rivals Chelsea for Tomas Kalas.

Fulham reportedly have five transfer targets and they are all players the fans know very well.

According to Sky Sports, the newly-promoted Londoners are keen to sign the loanees that helped bring an end to their four-year exile from the Premier League: Aleksandar Mitrovic, Matt Targett, Oliver Norwood, Lucas Piazon and Tomas Kalas.

Interestingly, Fulham have the option to sign Kalas for £8.5 million after two successful seasons at Craven Cottage from west London neighbours Chelsea.

The 6ft Czech centre-back, who has made just two Premier League appearances in eight years at Stamford Bridge, has proved himself in English football at Fulham and was a regular in Slavisa Jokanovic's defence since arriving in the summer of 2016.

Despite this, however, Sky Sports reports that Fulham do not want to pay £8.5 million for Kalas and are hoping to sign him for cheaper this summer.

Therefore, they are aiming to enter negotiations with Chelsea in order to try to land the 25-year-old on a reduced fee, but it remains to be seen whether the Premier League giants are willing to play ball.

Fulham will have to pay far more than £8.5 million if they want to land Mitrovic, however, with the Mirror (May 31, page 57) stating that Newcastle United want £20 million for a striker who scored 12 times in 18 starts on loan for the Cottagers.

Fulham youngster explains Portland Timbers trial and reveals what his next target is

The 20-year-old played on trial at the US club before returning for Fulham's game at Wembley in the play-off final

Fulham youngster Tayo Edun may have played a trial game for Portland Timbers 2, but that experience didn't stop him from jetting back from the United States to see Fulham win the play-offs.

The 20-year-old featured in the MLS outfit's friendly game with St Pauli in May, impressing with his ability on the ball as they lost 4-2 to the German side.

But days later Edun was back in London to watch on as the Whites completed promotion back to the Premier League, thanks to a 1-0 victory over Aston Villa at Wembley in the play-off final.

Edun won the Euro U19 Championship with England last summer, made his first league start for Fulham and trained with the England senior side, all in the space of a season and despite that trial game with Portland, the youngster is still hopeful of making it in the first team at Craven Cottage.

"I think with the way Fulham set up, anyone is good enough," he said.

"It's just showing the consistency that those players like Sessegnon and Bettinelli, who made it through the Academy, there's a lot of players that have come and shown and have moved on too - Emerson Hyndman, Patrick Roberts, so it just goes to show there's space there and opportunity but it's showing consistency.

"Whether I get that next season or the season after I don't know, but I definitely believe in myself.

"I have to thank the manager so much for giving me the opportunities, my debut and then continued into this season.

"Having spoken to him one to one, me and him have a good relationship and I love the guy because he's given me so many opportunities."

Not many young English talents look across the pond for first team football, especially when the club they're currently at are looking at becoming a Premier League side, but that's exactly what Edun did.

The styles between English U23 football and US football are completely different, and while the midfielder isn't sure what the future holds in terms of that trial, he's happy for the different experiences he got to encounter.

He added: "That [Portland] was a different experience, there was an opportunity for a different experience and I'm not sure what I'll do, I'm happy to be back and be able to make it back here because it was a long way away but I had to be here and celebrate this.

Tayo Edun on the ball (Image: Darren Pepe)

"With the changes that will happen at the club, I don't know what situation I'm going to be in, so we'll just take everything as it goes and we'll see.

"Right now, I want to enjoy everything with the boys and I'm so happy for everyone at the club.

"It [Portland] is something to consider, there's not much I can say on the topic right now, but it was a good experience to see a different league and different types of players."

Edun made his first senior start against Derby County in a 1-1 draw back in November, gaining praise for the way he held himself against one of the top sides in the division.

He made an appearance against Millwall the following week but didn't feature again for the Whites as they looked to turn their season around, although he continued to train with Jokanovic's first team.

And despite admitting that start was down to a bit of luck, he knew he had to take the opportunity with both hands.

"At the time it was a different experience because we weren't anywhere near where we finished, so it just shows you have to take your opportunity when it comes.

"The team brought it back from there and the situation at the time and it shows you never know how it will end up.

Grujic should join Fulham rather than fight for Liverpool place next season

Fulham have shown an interest in signing Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic, according to Goal.com.

What's the word?
The Serbian international has been part of the Merseyside outfit since his 2016 switch from Red Star Belgrade, but game time has been an issue.

The 22-year-old has struggled to land a regular spot in the first team, which resulted in a loan move last season.

In January, Grujic moved to Cardiff City on loan and helped the Welsh outfit earn promotion to the Premier League.

It remains unlikely that the midfielder will break into Jurgen Klopp's team in the 2018-19 campaign, and Goal.com reports that Fulham are potentially interested in a temporary deal.

What should Grujic do?
It is an exciting time at Liverpool following a positive campaign, which included a top-four finish and reaching the Champions League final.

Unfortunately for the Reds, they were unable to overcome Real Madrid in the Kiev showpiece, but their exciting fast-paced football has certainly caught the eye.

From Grujic's point of view, he would struggle to gain a first-team place and it is in his best interests to rack up some minutes elsewhere.

Fulham would be an ideal fit for the Serbian as they adopt a passing style that the young midfielder could potentially thrive in.

On top of that, Grujic will be playing Premier League football following the Cottagers' promotion via the playoffs, which means that he can test himself against some of the best teams in the country.

Omogbehin's Season Review

fulhamfc.com caught up with Under-18s Head Coach Colin Omogbehin to get his views on the Young Whites' season.

"It was a satisfactory season," commented Omogbehin on their campaign. "We had a very bright start but with youth football things can change quickly.

"You don't always have your strongest team; we don't have a problem with that. Players will move onto the Under-23s, players will get injured, so the team chops and changes at times.

"We have a history of playing young players and sometimes that can have an effect on getting the results. We are not about results, even though part of the players' development is to win games.

"The most important thing for us is if we can get players that will one day be good enough to get in the First Team, and we must never lose sight of that."

The Young Whites had a great start to their season, winning 16 out of a possible 18 points from the opening six matches.

"We worked very hard in Portugal for the pre-season camp and laid down foundations of how we wanted to play in and out of possession.

"The boys took that on board and they showed the good qualities that they have along with the ideas and the hard work we put in as a collective.

"There are probably three matches I have to single out from this season as our best performances.

"Arsenal on the opening day of the season. They are a massive club, they had some important players on the pitch and I feel our performance was just awesome."

The Young Whites ran out 4-1 winners on that day as they bounced back strongly after conceding first just after half time.

"Thomo [Cameron Thompson] ended up getting the hat-trick, we controlled the game from start to finish.

"I have to mention the evening games in the FA Youth Cup run, Swansea was probably our most complete performance in difficult conditions. We still found a way to dominate the game and end up worthy 2-0 winners.

"At Plymouth Argyle we came from behind as well, Nico [Santos-Clase] scored in both those games. So I think playing in front of crowds in different atmospheres, those games stand out for me."

Fulham have brought up a number of players from the Under-16s towards the end of the season and Omogbehin was full of praise for their maturity.

"We've got a lot of good players across our Club, so it's not hard for players like Fabio Carvalho, Harvey Elliot and Sylvester Jasper to step up, they have handled it well so it bodes well for the future."

Here's when the current deals of those are Fulham are due to run out - with the club having options to extend on most contracts

Fulham seem to be in a good position this summer in terms of contracts - with nearly all their key men tied down to long-term deals at the club.

Tony Khan's policy of tying down players to longer deals, with the extra club option for another year, has seen most of the side tied down to long deals - meaning Fulham are in the best position when it comes to their futures.

The Cottagers have done a good job of tying down the vast majorities of their stars to long-term deals, with club options for a further year on most newly-agreed contracts and new signings at the club.

That includes the likes of captain Tom Cairney, Kevin McDonald and Marcus Bettinelli - all who have long term contracts with club options to further extend it, should they wish to do so.

With some players' deals set to end imminently and some running all the way through to 2021, the side look in good shape for the future.

The National Stadium bathed in sunshine and 38,000 Fulham fans in full voice, Expectant. Hopeful. Nervous. Aston Villa the opponents for the Championship Play-Off Final. The prize , a place in the Premier League.

After a cagey opening, the game exploded into life when Ryan Sessegnon's slide rule pass found Tom Cairney through on goal. First time with his sweet left foot, the skipper coolly found the corner of the net and the Whites were in front.

A dominant first half gave way to a see-saw second. Villa's Jack Grealish, tormentor-in-chief, creating and spurning opportunities in equal measure, before escaping a red card. Fulham held firm, despite themselves being reduced to 10 men with 20 minutes remaining.

When the full time whistle blew, there was relief mixed with sheer joy at one end of Wembley. The Whites had claimed their deserved return to the top flight after a four year-absence.

Relive the whole game once again, along with all the celebrations on the pitch and in the dressing room afterwards, plus the instant reactions of those that led Fulham right back to the big time!

How Spurs, Fulham and Arsenal can take advantage of Aston Villa's financial plight this summer

The Championship's financial situation could trigger a number of sales in the transfer window

There could be a fire sale at Aston Viilla this summer and a number of Premier League clubs just might be licking their lips at the prospect.

Defeat in last month's Championship play-off final against Fulham denied Villa the chance of a return to the top flight of English football following a two year absence - although that was only the beginning of the bad news.

Earlier in the week it was reported that the club were facing financial problems and the threat of administration was hanging over their heads like a black cloud.

Worrying times for all those connected to the club.

However, they are expected to settle their £4m tax bill having paid HM Revenue & Customs £500,000 and will pay a further £1.2m by the end of the week.

With that said, don't be surprised if Villa are forced to cash in on a number of key players this summer as well as a couple of promising youngsters in a way to balance the books.

We've taken a look at who could follow former Chelsea captain John Terry through the exit door at Villa Park and which club from the capital they would be most suited to.

James Chester

Age: 29

Position: Centre-back

Previous clubs: Manchester United, Plymouth, Peterborough, West Brom, Carlisle, Hull City

2017/2018 apps: 50

2017/2018 goals: 3

2017/2018 assists: 1

Club he should join: Watford, West Ham, Crystal Palace or Fulham

A very solid centre-back, has loads of experience and would be a welcome addition to the likes of Watford, West Ham United and Crystal Palace.

While he could also help Fulham navigate through their first season back in the big time.

Jack Grealish

Age: 22

Position: Attacking midfield

Previous clubs: Notts County

2017/2018 apps: 31

2017/2018 goals: 3

2017/2018 assists: 6

Club he should join: Tottenham

He's young and has got bags of potential. Sounds like a perfect signing for Mauricio Pochettino who could work his magic on Grealish just like how he has done for the likes of Dele Alli and Co.

Albert Adomah

Age: 30

Position: Winger

Previous clubs: Harrow Borough, Barnet, Bristol City, Middlesbrough

2017/2018 apps: 44

2017/2018 goals: 15

2017/2018 assists: 7

Club he should join: West Ham or Crystal Palace

He can frustrate at times but Adomah is a very hardworking winger who provides a goal threat. Both West Ham United and Crystal Palace could do with a player like him to ease the pressure on their respective strikers.

Andre Green

Age: 19

Position: Winger

Previous clubs: N/A

2017/2018 apps: 7

2017/2018 goals: 1

2017/2018 assists: 0

Club he should join: Fulham

One that is highly-rated within the club and was given a taste of first-team action in the 2017/18 campaign. Certainly one that the club could build around should others leave, but also one that could command a decent fee even though his contract runs out next summer.

Would need to play under a manager who isn't afraid to give youth a chance. That rules out a move to Chelsea but opens the door to Fulham and Slavisa Jovanovic.

Jonathan Kodjia

Age: 28

Position: Forward

Previous clubs: Reims, Cherbourg, Amiens, Caen, Angers, Bristol City

2017/2018 apps: 18

2017/2018 goals: 1

2017/2018 assists: 3

Club he should join: Watford

If he can stay fit then who knows how good Kodjia can be. He could do a job at Vicarage Road playing alongside Troy Deeney in attack

Rushian Hepburn Murphy

Age: 19

Position: Forward

Previous clubs: N/A

2017/2018 apps: 5

2017/2018 goals: 0

2017/2018 assists: 0

Club he should join: Crystal Palace, Fulham, West Ham or Watford

Another Villa youngster with bags of potential, but shouldn't join a club where his path to the first-team would be blocked.

Callum O'Hare

Age: 20

Position: Attacking midfield

Previous clubs: N/A

2017/2018 apps: 8

2017/2018 goals: 0

2017/2018 assists: 1

Club he should join: Arsenal, Tottenham, West Ham or Fulham

With 10 goals and three assists to his name in the Premier League 2 this season it's easy to see why Callum O'Hare is so highly-rated.

Should he have to leave then a team that would play to his strengths in order for him to shine would make a lot of sense - hence Arsenal, Spurs, West Ham and Fulham as suggestions.

Away Day Planner: Pre Season (Duisburg)

It's pre-season time and our resident away day guru, Dom Betts, has all the information on how best to get to The Cup of Traditions, where Fulham will be playing FC Duisburg, Athletic Club and an unnamed third side in a friendly tournament in Germany.

The Cup of Traditions, Duisburg, Germany
28th July, 12:00 – 16:00

Travel

The easiest way to get there will be the fly to Dusseldorf & direct flights are available from London City, Heathrow & Stansted. Obviously there are many day combinations but I'll cover the main ones that people will most likely want to do:

    Friday – Monday
    Saturday only
    Saturday – Sunday

(I'll be posting the cheapest/most reasonable options, however if you find other airports easier to get to there will be flights for you)

In actually getting to the ground, you can take a S1 train from Dusseldorf Hbf to Duisburg Schlenk which is 10 stops and takes approximately 25 minutes and costs €10 if you book in advance or €19.50 on the day of departure and then the MSV-Arena is a 15 minute walk from there.

Friday to Monday

Flight Time – 1 hour 30 minutes (Approx)

Price – £94

Flights – London City – Dusseldorf 08:00 & Dusseldorf – London Heathrow 18:15

Saturday Only

Flight Time – 1 hour 30 minutes (Approx)

Price – £84

Flights – London Heathrow – Dusseldorf 07:25 & Dusseldorf to London Heathrow 20:45

Saturday to Sunday

Flight Time – 1 hour 30 minutes (Approx)

Price – £97

Flights – London Heathrow – Dusseldorf 07:25 & Dusseldorf to London Heathrow 15:50

Accommodation

Accommodation looks very cheap in the centre of Dusseldorf, you can find various hotels in the space of £25-30 a night each for a double/twin room. So if you were to stay from Friday to Monday you could do flights & hotel for less than £200.

My recommendations for hotels abroad are usually stick with what you know. Ibis' are always a good go to budget option, and on early glances the Hotel Stadt Munchen in the city centre looks good.

AirBnB could also be a good option if you're travelling in a big group where you could probably find places around the same price if not cheaper , but you'll have to work it out yourself – Dusseldorf isn't a big city and the Metro is exceptional if that makes life easier when having a look.

Tournament/Matchday Information

At the time of writing the information, the details that have been confirmed is that we will be playing in a 4 team tournament consisting of MSV Duisburg, a yet to be named side, Fulham & Athletic Bilbao. (Yes, Ben Jarman absolutely creamed his pants at the news this morning.) There will be 2 games, our opponent has yet to be named, then a 3rd placed play-off and final from the winners/losers of the 1st 2 games.

Going by recent years the kick off of the first games will be 1pm local time, then the third placed play-off match will be placed at 3pm & the final at 4pm, so all proceedings including the trophy presentation will be concluded around 5pm

Match tickets will be priced at 10 euros for standing & 20 euros for seating. Aston Villa, funnily enough, won the tournament last year and they were able to purchase tickets before setting off. They were allocated 200 standing & 100 seating tickets which we available to buy on Aston Villa's website, so I imagine Fulham will be doing the same

Final Words

I'd highly recommend doing this trip going by the 2 experiences of my German Fulham Pre-Season weekenders in Bremen and Darmstadt, and is very affordable.

If you don't fancy Dusseldorf, other nearby cities you could stay in are Dortmund & Cologne.

There will be a Evian Les Bains planner released, once the fixtures have been confirmed.

Fulham's Cyrus Christie would make a sound addition for Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday have been quiet in the transfer market thus far.

Sheffield Wednesday have yet to strengthen their squad this summer yet one player who could be of interest to them is Fulham's Cyrus Christie, with the right-back having question marks over his future.

The Republic of Ireland international barely featured for Fulham after joining the club from Middlesbrough last January, making just a handful of Championship appearances.

Christie was brought in as a back-up to Ryan Fredericks, and he probably felt with his former teammate recently joining West Ham United on a free transfer that his path to a regular first-team spot has been cleared.

The Whites, however, have since been linked with Turkey international right-back Gokhan Gonul and their reported strong interest suggests that boss Slavisa Jokanovic doesn't see Christie as a ready-made replacement for the departed Fredericks.

The former Derby County man could well be available for transfer this summer, and Wednesday's wingback system under Jos Luhukay would be ideal for a player who loves to get forward.

Christie has always possessed attacking intentions, where in his first season at Derby he racked up an impressive six assists in 34 starts while at Boro last term he recorded four assists in 24 games.

The 25-year-old knows how to get forward, he has excellent crossing capabilities and his energy and pace up and down the flank in a wingback role would gives the Owls a completely different dimension.

Right now, Luhukay isn't really blessed with an attacking right wingback as Jack Hunt is much more defensive-minded, Ashley Baker is still inexperienced, while Adam Reach is more effective out on the left.

Wednesday have scope to strengthen the right wingback area this summer, and considering Christie's age and potential, he would represent a sound choice who is potentially available at a decent price.
