The Fayed Song

Mister Jimmy

It's now time to stop singing this.

Fayed sold up 5 years ago. Fayed's priming of the club for sale was part of the reason for our relegation. We must never forget everything he did for us but he's not been near the club for 5 years. Fayed is the past.

Khan has stabilised Fulham. Yes, he has made mistakes along the way. But he has got us back to the Premier League and is clearly planning a sustainable future.

It's time for all concerned with Fulham to move forward. Dump the Fayed song now.

I think there are those who feel he changed our fortunes. So the song has stuck. I'm not a fan although I'd happily sing along to the "Jim Bullard Bullard" number.

Quite agree, he has moved on so should we.
Somebody must be able to start a song about Kahn.

Why do we sing songs about our owners? I can't think of any other club who does.

I agree, and while we're at it, can we stop singing "that" song about coming from Serbia, as it is awful.
Never ever bloody anything ever.

Fulham 442

This was discussed on here a while ago.  I think part of the fun of the song for Fulham fans is the line "He wants to be a Brit, and QPR are sh*t"!  However I am firmly in the "we've moved on" camp and never sing it.  I have to say it does seem to be sung less and less, as it should be.  As QPR won't be in the same league as us next season hopefully it won't make an appearance at all!

Nope.  Let's not just erase Mo from history because the Khan's finally managed to get something right after 4 and a half seasons of trying.  Sing a separate song for Khan if you like but let's not push to one side the great things that Mo did for the club.

Nobody is suggesting MAF should be forgotten but he is no longer our owner as he chose to sell the club.

Agree we cannot live in the past and now, more than ever, we are on the cusp of another highly enjoyable spell in the Prem.

But I for one will not forget the roller coaster ride through the Divisions to the Prem, some very respectable years in the top flight and all the infrastructure improvements that resulted.  MAF sold us as part of his disposal of assets - he is not a young man - and he sold us debt free (as I understand) to a similarly wealthy owner.  Mr Khan's time is now - he is learning fast.  MAF grasped the nettle when we were down and out.  Remember with fondness but look forward to the future.

Who came up with:

Oh Shahid Khan
Oh Shahid Khan
He's got a lot of dough
And he brought the club from Mo
Oh Shahid Khan

This should be the replacement song :)

Nothing wrong with showing a previous owner some well deserved respect, he definitely earned it.

Not many other ways we can continue to show our appreciation for what he did for us other than sing a song occasionally. I don't imagine he'll get a statue or a stand named after him.

Yes, my point exactly - Presuming that was aimed at 442.

Yes. Personally, only having supported Fulham for 29 years, Johnny Haynes doesn't mean much to me. However, I acknowledge he is a major figure of the club in the 1950s and 1960s. As was Mohamed Al-Fayed for 15 years.

Perhaps we should have a Shad Khan song, he is proving to be a decent owner although he has a way to go to rival MAF.
For me the song I absolutely don't want to see dropped is "Take me back....". That is still emotional and beautifully describes a key part of our history

Exactly

I am astounded the OP's argument gets any sympathy because it is logically bankrupt

When the Cottage is replaced with executive boxes,
When the Johnny Haynes stand is demolished, replaced and renamed,
When the Johnny Haynes and George Cohen statues are torn down,
When Mcbride's Bar is renamed,
When we stop talking about Carlisle away, Hamburg, 1975 or the play-off final we just won,
When we stop doing a minute's silence for past legends like Jimmy Hill,
When the heritage range in the club shop using the old badge is discontinued,
...THEN, and only then, when we have zero history, might it be reasonable and not totally cretinous to argue that we should do away with the MAF song because "we've moved on"

Well, excuse me!!

Nobody suggested any of the things you have listed. However, a few points:

The Muddyman family did a huge amount for Fulham. And yet no one sang their name after the arrival of Fayed.

This is not about forgetting Fayed and all that he did for us. Just suggesting that as time moves on and as Fulham take their most significant post Fayed step the time is right to put him in some sort of historical perspective. After all we don't sing Roy, Roy, Roy anymore do we?

And, not related to my original post but as it's on your shopping list the whole concept of McBride's Bar is just crass commercialism. It is aimed at the American market. Yes, he was a good player for us but others are far more deserving of such commemoration (take into account appearances, goals scored, longevity of service). How about Morgan's Bar?

I do remember the alternative version of the 'he wants to be a Brit' song going something along the lines of 'he sold us to a clown, and now we're going down'.  (does that count as a song for Khan?)

Mister Jimmy, your opening line was 'It's now time to stop singing this.'  That's very matter of fact and was not really opening a discussion.  This is obviously about opinions and as you can tell from the replies so far the majority are not in favour of stopping so you will no doubt continue to hear Mr Fayed's name sung for many years to come.  Like it or not.

Mister Jimmy

Statto you can assume whatever pleases you. And by all means sing about whoever you so wish. But the point I was making is that there are numerous players / managers from the past that we don't sing about presumably because they are in the past. As is Fayed.

Believe it or not my motivation for this thread is purely positive. We are at the dawn of a bright new era for our club. We should embrace that and not keep singing about a bygone era.

The Enclosurite

Well, the song is certainly still partly relevant anyway as QPR are still sh*t.  That we can all agree on surely?

I don't understand why we have to drop songs... We don't have many as it is!

Let's just come up with a song about Khan and sing that too. I was at the back of Hammy when the news about Wembley came out and a large number of us were singing 'he buys what he wants shahid Kahn he buys what he wants' does that count?
"and there's a tidal wave on the Thames!"

Pesonally stopped singing the take me home song after the Hamburg Semi Final.Brilliant as it was that night under the stand I decided to retire it.Anyway the Tence is awry
