Transfer gossip: Speculation over Seri as midfielder reportedly heads to London

Chelsea continue to be linked with Jean Michael Seri amid reports reports the Nice midfielder has travelled to London ahead of a potential transfer.

Seri is keen to move to England and has long been touted for moves to Chelsea and Arsenal.

West London Sport recently revealed that Fulham are interested in the 26-year-old Ivory Coast international.

But he continues to be linked primarily with the Blues and Arsenal – and the Daily Star declare that fans of both those clubs are "on red alert" with Seri apparently in the capital.

The Star also suggest Seri could be a replacement for Chelsea's N'Golo Kante, who has been linked with Paris St-Germain and Real Madrid.

Fulham Football Club: 2018 Summer Transfer Focus

Sat in the bottom half of the table after a defeat to bottom side Sunderland in December, a 5th successive year in the Championship seemed on the cards for the Cottagers.....but after putting together a run of 23 games without defeat, Fulham entered the final day of the season in 3rd place, a point behind Cardiff in the race for automatic promotion.

Despite Cardiff dropping points at home to Reading, the club had to settle for a play-off place after failing to capitalise, losing 3-1 away to Birmingham. Slavisa Jokanovic's men saw off Derby over two legs before beating Aston Villa 1-0 in the play-off final at Wembley Stadium; victory was the club's first at Wembley in their 139-year history.

Talented full-back Ryan Fredericks has joined fellow London club West Ham on a free transfer after rejecting a new contract. Loan players Tomas Kalas, Lucas Piazon, Oliver Norwood, Matt Targett, Sheyi Ojo and Aleksander Mitrovic have all returned to their parent clubs. Cauley Woodrow has re-joined the club after scoring just 2 goals during a below average loan-spell at fellow Championship club Bristol City.

Adding squad depth has to be the main priority for Fulham this summer. The first team squad is currently made up of just 17 players and head coach Jokanovic has been linked with permanently signing a number of last season's loanees.

The club have reportedly approached Chelsea with regards to signing Kalas and Piazon permanently but are unwilling to pay the £8.5 million permanent signing fee Chelsea placed in the formers loan contract. Targett may feel re-joining Fulham is best for him, with Ryan Bertrand blocking his path at Southampton.

Brighton's Oliver Norwood featured 41 times for the club in all competitions whilst on-loan last season and should be available for less than £5 million.

Perhaps the most important signature Fulham could secure this summer would be that of Newcastle frontman Aleksander Mitrovic. After scoring 12 goals in 17 Championship games after joining on-loan in January, the player could cost upwards of £20 million. Fellow Serbian, Liverpool's Marko Grujic, has also been recently linked with a loan move to South West London. Fulham are also one of a number of clubs looking to make the most of Aston Villa's current financial difficulties by swooping in for Jack Grealish. Fellow Championship stars James Maddison, Joe Bennett and Joe Bryan are also targets.

The most important thing Fulham can do this summer is keep Ryan Sessegnon at the club. The Championship Player, Young Player and Apprentice of the Season is interesting Tottenham and Man United and is likely to be the subject of bids in the coming weeks. Fulham will be under no pressure to sell however after the money they are set to make following promotion. Captain and play-off final goalscorer Tom Cairney had also been linked with a move away from the club throughout last season, but promotion is likely to mean the Scot will stay.

The reasons why Fulham haven't signed anyone with one month left in the transfer window

We take a look at the possible reasons behind why Fulham have yet to make a move in the transfer window

Fulham are well-known for doing their business later in the transfer window, with the majority of players who made an impact last season coming in towards the end of July.

Nevertheless, after winning promotion to the Premier League at Wembley on May 26 after winning the Championship play-off final, there's been very little news on potential incomings at the club leaving fans a tad jittery as the club get back into pre-season training.

Add to that the fact that Fulham have 16 first team players returning, if you don't count Academy members of the squad such as Luca de la Torre and Tayo Edun, it's left fans worrying that the club aren't securing their targets quick enough and that with an earlier deadline this year (August 9) the recruitment team are leaving it late to do deals.

At the moment, it's looking likely that Fulham will have a large influx of players in a short amount of time with just over a month left before the start of the Premier League season and the end of the transfer window, but in all honesty, that isn't something new.

Let's take a look at last season's signings and when they happened to compare the state of affairs.

This time last summer (July 2) Fulham had Marcelo Djalo and Ibrahima Cisse, with neither having the best of impacts in SW6.

In fact, the signings that came in and had an impact on the way the season panned out for the club only started to arrive during the middle of July in the form of loan signing Lucas Piazon, while Oliver Norwood and Tomas Kalas arrived shortly after that towards the end of the month.

With that all in mind, we've taken a look at why the club haven't completed any deals yet.

Under the lights: Oliver Norwood (Image: Naomi Baker/Getty Images)

Business as normal

Firstly, Fulham usually like to wait in the transfer window as they feel they are able to get a better deal over more protracted negotiations, rather than agreeing to the first price quoted.

It works both ways - Reading came in with a low offer for Sone Aluko last season early in the window, but after a long negotiation period Fulham were able to get around £7million for him - nearly seven times more than what was first offered.

If we take continue the trend of looking back at last season, Fulham only made two signings between the end of the season and the middle of July, as opposed to nine after that date (including loan deals), eight of which happened after July 25.

Of course, Slavisa Jokanovic will want the club to get business done as early as possible so that he can have a near enough full side to work with during pre-season in order to get them to where he wants the club to be, and that is completely understandable from a football sense.

But from a business sense, it doesn't make sense to agree with higher fees in a bid to get deals done sooner and it would set a precedent that other clubs could take advantage of.

Later signings was also the norm the season before too - only three signed before July 14 (Michael Madl, Floyd Ayite and Sone Aluko) while 11 game in after that date, with nine of those after July 19.

The World Cup

The World Cup was always going to have an impact on deals over the summer, with clubs waiting until after the tournament to do deals in case they can add a few extra numbers on a fee, while players will be hoping to catch club's eyes with their performances.

It's hard to do deal with players when they're embedded in a national team camp too - if you were manager of England, would you want club managers coming into the camp to try and persuade one of your players to play for them next season?

Absolutely not.

With players in the World Cup then heading off on their holidays before the start of the season, it wouldn't be a surprise whatsoever to see a mad dash in the final few weeks of July and the start of August for players.

The loan situation

Fulham have used the loan market to great success in the past two seasons, but now they're in the Premier League that whole avenue changes.

This season, they can only register two loan players at any one time and can only loan one player from each club in the Premier League, meaning they can't have six loanees like they did last year and can't do a loan deal like they did for Tomas Kalas and Lucas Piazon from Chelsea.

Loans were a lot easier to push through, and now Fulham have to be careful in who they chose to bring in, while turning their loans from last season into permanents is a more drawn out process, despite the players having played at Craven Cottage last season.

All of that will be having an effect on Fulham's transfer business this summer, meaning a more considered approach is needed.

(Image: Victoria Jones/PA Wire)

The domino effect

A well-used cliche for the summer transfer window, but a true one.

So far, there are six teams in the Premier League who are yet to do any business, with Fulham being one of them, with new boys Wolves looking to be the most active so far.

However, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are yet to open their chequebook this summer, while the other big clubs have only added a couple of new faces to their side.

It happens every season, but once one big deal goes through, it's a domino effect for the others and we'll almost certainly see a flurry of deals happen with a week or two of one another.

At the start of pre-season, it's almost like a stand off with selling club, buying club and player all wanting the best deal for themselves.

Returning to pre-season

Clubs are only just returning to pre-season training this week and will want to have a chance to see their players return before they make decisions on their futures.

This will be the case for both loan and transfer deals - most clubs will want their players who are marked to go out on loan to start pre-season with them before making the move to their new club for the year.

(Image: Victoria Jones/PA Wire)

That's what happened last year with Sheyi Ojo, who started the summer with Liverpool, allowing his parent club to get a look of him before he made the move down south.

July 2 marks the beginning of the pre-season programme for most, so we should start to see the transfer window winding up now ahead of August 9.

EXCLUSIVE: New suitors in for £16m Wolves winger

TEAMtalk understands Fulham have moved into pole position to land Wolves forward Ivan Cavaleiro.

Wolves are ready to sell the Portuguese international who joined them in the summer of 2016 from Monaco for a then club-record £7million.

Cavaleiro played a big part in Wolves promotion with nine goals and 12 assists, but Wolves are ready to move him on in order to make room for other signings.

Wolves are understood to have recently turned down a £12million bid for Cavaleiro from Fulham and Huddersfield.

Now though we can reveal Fulham are ready to go to £16million to get their man.

Last month we reported that Huddersfield we closing in on Cavaleiro with Wolves' Chinese owners apparently having "ambitious plans" and are ready to sell him to fund new arrivals.

Cavaleiro then distanced himself from the report when he posted a pictured of himself in action for Wolves on social media with the message: "Looking forward to start the season with my club #wolvesaywe."

Cairney: We belong in the Premier League

Captain whose goal secured Fulham's return to the top flight delighted to commit to new five-year deal

Tom Cairney says Fulham are back where they belong in the Premier League after pledging his future to the club with a new five-year deal.

The 27-year-old midfielder stated when he joined the club three years ago from Blackburn Rovers he felt he was moving to a top-flight side.

In May, Cairney helped make it happen with the only goal in the Championship play-off final against Aston Villa.

"When I came to Fulham in 2015 and said that, I did believe that this club belonged here [in the Premier League], but to do it in the fashion that we did, I never could have dreamt of that," Cairney told Fulham's official website.

"I couldn't ask for a better way to do it, with better boys, and to do it as captain is something special.

"I've committed my future again to Fulham, and it's all I ever wanted to do from the start."

Cairney has not tired of seeing his decisive strike at Wembley Stadium.

"I've watched that goal from many angles," he says. "I like the Spidercam one, that's my favourite."

Cairney and Fulham start their return to the Premier League at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday 11 August.

Trophy Tour

Since the Whites' triumphant win at Wembley Stadium in the Championship Play-Off Final, the Fulham FC Foundation has been taking the Play-Off Trophy on a tour of its programmes.

For the first stop, Billy the Badger brought the trophy to our Motspur Park May Half-Term Soccer School where he presented it to the participants and thanked them for a great week.

The trophy also took a special trip to our new venue, Meadowbank Stadium in Dorking, where it was presented to a sold-out Soccer School group.

As our Football and Education programme came to a close for the season, the cup was brought to the programme at Raynes Park High School for their open evening where potential future participants could learn about the programme.

Fulham FC Foundation Coach Mark Tiller also brought the trophy to the Football and Education programmes partner school, Coulsdon Sixth Form College.

In June, members of the Fulham FC Ladies team visited The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity for their World Cup party to enthuse the children and their families about the tournament. The FFC Ladies brought the Play-Off Final Trophy for the children to see and there were many big smiles!

The trophy also went to our SSE Wildcats Girls' Football Centre in Tolworth to see some very happy Fulham fans. Our girls' participants and their families got the opportunity to take plenty of photos with the trophy!

Of course, a trophy tour wouldn't be complete without a stop at one of our Cohen Walking Football sessions where the participants had their pictures taken with it.

We hope everyone enjoyed the chance to see the trophy!

Why Fulham signing this £30m-rated midfielder will be a game-changer for the Cottagers

Why Fulham should pull off this ambitious move to sign Jean Michael Seri

Fulham have surprisingly entered the race to sign Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri, as Chelsea have cooled their interest in the player. If the Cottagers pull this off, it will be a major statement of intent even before they kick a ball next season.

Seri, who has a £35million release clause, has been linked with many clubs in England but the fact that Fulham are attempting a move is quite astonishing. The 26-year-old midfielder will certainly add a different dimension to any squad, let alone the Cottagers.

Let us scout the player with attributes and conclude as to why Fulham signing him could be the deal of the summer.

Player Analysis – Jean Michael Seri

Seri is an immensely diminutive midfielder who has incredible capabilities on and off the ball. The 26-year-old embodies tenacity and exudes quality on the ball. His stamina is quite admirable since he can impact the game at any point in time. Also, the player can dribble past opponents in the midfield and has a fantastic eye for picking out incisive key passes, at a rate of 2.1 per game.

The fact that he fabricated 58 chances in 27 appearances in the Ligue 1 last season personifies the above-stated facts. The best thing about Seri is his diligence while doing defensive work. He may not be the best tackler but he possesses some great space-blocking awareness to stop the supply lines for the opposition's forward play.

In Slavisa Jokanovic's 4-3-3 system, the 26-year-old can play either as a deep-lying playmaker or as one of the No.8s flanking the defensive midfielder. Conclusively, Seri has the required tools to succeed in the Premier League.

Verdict

Seri, as mentioned above, has been linked with several big clubs. And if Fulham are able to beat them all and get the deal done, it would be nothing short of a fairytale. There is absolutely no question of whether they need him or not; if the finance and price matches, they should just go and get the player. His mere presence is capable of improving the whole squad and atmosphere inside the stadium. And that is something Fulham need ahead of the new term.

Report: Fulham ready to pay £16m for Wolves star Ivan Cavaleiro

Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker Ivan Cavaleiro is reportedly on the radar of Fulham in the summer transfer window.

Fulham are ready to pay as much as £16 million for Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker Ivan Cavaleiro in the summer transfer window, according to TEAMtalk.

Wolves are reportedly ready to sell Cavaleiro, who can operate as a winger or as a forward, having signed from AS Monaco in the summer of 2016 for £7m.

The Wanderers reportedly turned down a £12m bid from Premier League rivals Fulham and Huddersfield Town.

TEAMtalk has claimed that Fulham have now moved into pole position for the 24-year-old and are willing to pay as much as £16m for him as transfer fee.

Should Wolverhampton Wanderers sell Ivan Cavaleiro?

Cavaleiro has done well for Wolves during his two years at the club and has established himself as an important player for the Wanderers.

The Portugal international scored nine goals and provided 12 assists in 31 Championship starts for Wolves last season.

During the 2016-17 campaign, the attacker scored five goals and provided five assists in 17 league starts for the Wanderers.

However, with Wolves having made some major signings in the summer transfer window and preparing for life in the Premier League, it would not be a bad idea for them to cash in on Cavaleiro, especially if they get £16m as transfer fee.

27 Y/O Celtic Defender Now On Fulham's Radar: What Should be Rodgers' Play Here?

Fulham are ready to join the race to sign Celtic centre-back Dedryck Boyata this summer. According to recent reports, the Cottagers are looking to secure the services of the Belgian international during this summer transfer period.

Some sources are now claiming that the Premier League new boys are planning a big-money raid of the Hoops defender in this post-season. Boyata has been in terrific form for both club and country over the last few years. He has become an integral part of Rodgers' backline and helped his side achieve a domestic treble last season.

The 27-year-old has also featured in the 2018 FIFA World Cup for the Belgium national side and has played in 3 matches for them so far in the competition. His contributions have helped his nation seal a passage through to the semi-finals of the World Cup where they will face off against France on Tuesday for a place in the final.

Boyata had featured in 39 matches for Celtic last season and has 3 goals and 3 assists to his name in all competitions. As evident from his stats, the defender has a knack for scoring and creating goals which will be an ideal asset for any of his potential suitors. With his contract set to run down next year, Boyata's future at Celtic Park has been thrown into doubt with a number of clubs lining up for his signature.

The Bhoys had another productive campaign last term as they were able to achieve a domestic treble but their overall performance in the UEFA Champions League was a disappointing one, to say the least. Hence, Rodgers can't afford to let go of their most valuable players as it will deplete his squad significantly going into the new campaign.

However, the Glaswegian giants could benefit from the money generated through his potential sale to strengthen other areas of their squad. The Hoops boss needs to devise a transfer plan and work accordingly. If the Parkhead-based club does end up parting ways with the Belgian defender, then they would also need to bring in an ideal replacement who will be capable enough to bolster their backline significantly.

Boyata should definitely look to stay at Celtic Park and opt against a switch to some other club in this post-season as he is already getting regular game time under Rodgers which he might not be guaranteed at Craven Cottage. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the Belgian international and whether he ends up making a switch away from Celtic Park this summer.

CC Thoughts: What is there to say about the Serbian international. Any one of you readers can go ahead and do a better job than I can to describe how much of an impact he had at guiding Fulham towards promotion. To this day, there are players, staff members and supporters that had no idea they were able to pull off signing Aleksander Mitrovic, a quality Premier League striker that has started and scored goals in Champions League and Europa League football, on just a loan deal. Now add the fact that, somehow, a 24-year old World Cup starting Europe striker isn't good enough for Newcastle and he might come to Fulham for a hint of a bargain.

Now said bargain will be between £15-25 million, but you could do so much worse building your team around a striker that hasn't had a proven track record for the club. Now the Premier League will be a different beast for Mitrovic. He did go goalless in his last four games for Fulham despite putting up 16 shots and it's not like he was all that successful this World Cup.

But honestly, we're nitpicking how successful the former Partizan Belgrade and Anderlecht man was in 2017/18. His shot rate might as well be at a tier that only Harry Kane can match. His hold-up play is of a standard we were hoping Chris Martin had but didn't. Most importantly, his expected goals total goes hand in hand with his production on the field.

Let's not forget the wonder strike that he had against eventual champions Wolves that really galvanized the SW6 to believing the Premier League is possible. Let's also never forget the constant last minute daggers he put on opposing fans that saved the club from potential misery this summer. There's just know way around it. Aleksander Mitrovic will forever be in the hearts and minds of Fulham fans for a very long time.

If only we had a contract that proved that he belongs at Craven Cottage for quite a while.

Key Stat: 28 shots from headers. In such a short space of time, Mitrovic was your club leader in shots that came off of headers. If you were to consider his style of play, it's no surprise to see a 6'2" mountain man garner that recognition. What is shocking is that the next closest Fulham player to Mitrovic's total is Ryan Sessegnon...with nine!

Your thoughts: I think based off of everyone's concensous, Aleksander Mitrovic has to stay at Fulham because we always know he's on fire. But is £20 million an appropriate transfer fee for him? Considering how long Tom Cairney's latest contract is, would it be fair to give the same length to someone who's only played for Fulham for six months? Dare I say it, what else is there for Mitrovic to do to make him even more of a club legend? Let us know your thoughts on the comments below.

Fulham ready to move for Augustinsson
by Dan on July 9, 2018

Fulham are ready to revive their move for Werder Bremen's Swedish international defender Ludwig Augustinsson, according to a Daily Mirror report this evening.

The paper claims that the Whites sent scouts to keep a close on eye on Augustinsson during Sweden's World Cup quarter final defeat at the hands of England in Samara on Saturday. The Premier League new boys were heavily linked with the left back last month and are preparing to step up their interest in the 24 year-old as they are coming close to admitting defeat in their pursuit of Southampton full back Matt Targett.

Fulham had a £10m bid for Targett, who enjoyed a successful loan spell at Craven Cottage last season, as Slavisa Jokanovic's side won promotion via the Championship play-offs rejected by the Saints earlier this summer, with manager Mark Hughes playing hardball over the former England under-21 international's future. The Mirror suggests that talks over a proposed deal have broken down – and the Cottagers are about to switch their attentions to Augustinsson.

Augustinsson, who played 33 times for Bremen last season and scored a single goal, has only been in Germany for a year after ending a successful two-year spell with Copenhagen, where he won back-to-back Danish titles and three Danish Cups. The attack-minded full-back, who was converted from a midfielder at the age of eleven, is a set-piece specialist and was considered one of the stars of the 2015 European Under-21 championship, which Sweden won.

Augustinsson, who has been linked with a number of English sides in the past, has three years to run on his current contract and the Werder Bremen hierarchy played down talk of a move away prior to the World Cup. But Fulham, who are eager to bring in at least one left back to allow Ryan Sessegnon to continue to play in the left wing position from where he made such an impression last season, could be set to test Werder's resolve to hold onto their World Cup star with a big-money bid.

Fulham Keen To Land 28 Y/O French Midfielder: A Shrewd Move In The Offing?

Get French Football News has reported that newly promoted Premier League outfit, Fulham, are pursuing Saint-Etienne defensive midfielder, Yann M'Vila. The 28-year-old is under a contract with his current employers until 2019 and talkSPORT has stated that apart from Fulham, Crystal Palace are also in the race to make him sign on the dotted line amidst interest from China as well.

Fact File

M'Vila spent his youth career with Amiens, Mantes and Rennes before being promoted to the senior side of Rennes. After that, he went to Russian heavyweights, Rubin Kazan and while he was on their books, he was shipped out on loan to Internazionale and Sunderland. In the January transfer window of 2018, he signed for Saint-Etienne but is apparently being tempted to leave the club.

Attributes

The French international is a tough-tackling midfielder who is good in the air as well. Although one might say that he hasn't been able to live up to his potential yet, he has been trying really hard to make his presence felt during the last couple of seasons or so. Besides his reading of the game is top-notch and his decision making on his feet helps the team to react to situations better.

How Did He Fare Last Season?

In 19 appearances for Rubin Kazan, M'Vila made 1.7 tackles, 2.1 interceptions and 2 clearances per game on an average and also found the back of the net twice. In Ligue 1 with Saint-Etienne, he mustered 1.5 tackles, 1.9 interceptions, 3 clearances and 0.1 blocks per game on an average from 17 appearances. His pass completion rate of 88.3% in French top flight was really appealing.

Do Fulham Need Him?

Under the tutelage of Slavisa Jokanovic, Fulham carved a promotion to the Premier League and there is no denying that the Cottagers were one of the best sides to watch. Now that they would be locking horns against the elite English clubs, they do need more quality in their ranks to refrain from falling into the clutches of the relegation zone.

M'Vila would be a decent signing for them to inject more steel in the middle of the park. He cushions the backline properly and during his loan spell with the Black Cats back in 2015-16 season, he bagged some valuable experience of English football and was one of the best players for them. He has plenty of experience under his belt and at the onset, it appears that Fulham could get a utility player if they manage to bring M'Vila to the Craven Cottage.

Fulham Chasing 27 Y/O World Cup Star Currently At Celtic: Time For Jokanovic To Go All In?

Fulham reportedly are keeping close tabs on the Celtic defender and Belgian international, Dedryck Boyata. The 27-year-old, who has just 12 months left in his current contract with the Hoops, has been on display for his country in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Sliding into a starting berth next to prestigious names like Toby Alderweireld, Vincent Kompany, Jan Vertonghen and Thomas Vermaelen is no small feat and plenty of European clubs have taken notice.

The centre-back has been in reported contract talks with Celtic as well. Brendan Rodgers is certainly hopeful of signing one of his starting XI regulars to a new deal but could be forced to sell him if interest continues to rise in the coming weeks.

Fulham have gained promotion to the Premier League and hence will be able to offer Boyata a more lucrative deal. Slavisa Jokanovic is making the necessary adjustments for a more intimidating top-flight challenge but is yet to announce a new signing.

Boyata has won three Scottish Premiership titles with Celtic ever since his arrival in the summer of 2015. The Belgian has done marvelously at Glasgow, making 103 appearances for the side while slotting in 14 goals and 6 assists.

He hit the ground running on his debut season after costing the Bhoys only £1.5m. He has been instrumental in Celtic's consecutive treble winning seasons. Boyata was born in Brussels and spent his youth career developing in the Manchester City academy ranks.

Other than making 35 appearances for the Citizens, he spent two seasons out on loan with Bolton Wanderers and FC Twente. The centre-back now has 10 caps to his name for Belgium and 23 for the country's U19 and U21 sides.

Celtic have younger talents in the form of Kristoffer Ajer, Jack Hendry and Jozo Simunovic. Marvin Compper has not really been impactful since his trade from RB Leipzig in January and the latter is considered as a rotational option behind Boyata.

Since the Hoops have still not agreed to a new deal with the 6 feet 2-inch centre-half, Fulham should take full advantage of the situation and put forth a convincing bid.

They certainly could use an extra head at the back with just Tim Ream and Marcelo Djalo registered in the centre-back position. Boyata is packed with top-flight talent and is already accustomed to the pace of the English game.
