Fulham's Interest In Newcastle Striker Could Be Waning

It had been widely expected that the Newcastle striker, Aleksandar Mitrovic would be leaving the club, this summer, to join the Premier League newcomers, Fulham.

The Serbian, out of favour at St James Park, spent a very successful loan spell at the West London club last season after arriving on loan in the January transfer window.

It had also been widely expected that the fee for the player would be handed to Rafael Benitez to help boost his squad ahead of the 2018 / 2019 Premier League season.

However, speculation has emerged this morning that the proposed deal could be in danger of not happening.

According to the media source, the Sun, Fulham are eyeing up making a move for the Real Sociedad striker, Willian Jose, with a fee of £26 million being mentioned.

Now, it doesn't take a genius to work out that the Craven Cottage based club are not going to splash the cash and buy both Mitrovic and Willian Jose, it'll be a case of either or.

The surprise development could, also, be a ploy to force Newcastle's hand and push a deal through that would send Mitrovic back to West London on a permanent basis for a fee agreeable to Fulham.

But, here at Vital Newcastle, if Mitrovic is still surplus to requirements, we'd urge the club to talk to Fulham, do a deal and then use the money to improve the squad.

If we don't and with the summer transfer window closing earlier than usual, courtesy of a rule change, we may be left to rue the consequences.

Fulham Set To Switch Striking Target As The Transfer Deadline Approaches

Lurking in the media this morning is the inference that our fine football club are being linked with the acquisition of a striker.

Whilst we fully expected that the Newcastle striker, Aleksander Mitrovic, would be our prime striking target, it appears that there is now another name in the frame.

According to the popular tabloid publication, the Sun, Fulham are looking at bringing the Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose to the club.

Willian Jose, a Brazilian, is 26-years-of-age and is rated in the £26 million bracket, a large fee for a club of our stature and previous record in the transfer market.

But, if the speculation is correct, I fear that it signals the end of any interest in Mitrovic.

Now whether Newcastle or even the player, are reluctant to do a deal with Fulham remains to be seen.

But, considering the fees being mentioned I'd be very surprised if Fulham, even with their new status as a Premier League side, would contemplate buying both.

Here at Vital Fulham, we're hoping that a deal for Mitrovic can still be delivered but then again, we'd not be averse to a little bit of Brazilian magic in the side, how about you?

Please feel free to leave your views in the comments section beneath this article, they'd be most welcome.

Who is Willian Jose? The reported £26m Fulham target who could be an alternative to Mitrovic

Reports have linked Fulham with a move for the former Real Madrid man - here's all the key information about Jose

A new name has been thrown into the frame to solve Fulham's forward situation ahead of the new season - Willian Jose of Real Sociedad.

The Sun have reported that the Cottagers are looking at the Real Sociedad man as an alternative to Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic should they not be able to get a deal over the line for the striker.

The Serbian striker is yet to return from holiday having been at the World Cup, so it is no surprise that a deal has not yet been agreed between the two - although Fulham want to pay the £20million fee in instalments and a deal still looks likely to happen.

However, if reports are to be believed, Tony Khan and the club's recruitment team are looking at potential alternatives with Jose to be their next target.

Here's everything you need to know about the reported target.

Career so far

Jose started his career with Gremio Barueri in his native Brazil and made his Serie A debut in 2009, scoring his first professional goal in January 2010.

In 2011, he joined Sao Paulo but was rarely used, finding himself as a back up to the likes of Luis Fabiano and eventually moved on to Gremio where he barely featured.

He put an end to that when he moved onto Santos the following season.

Real Sociedad's Brazilian forward Willian Jose celebrates (Image: ANDER GILLENEA/AFP/Getty Images)

Next up was a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid where he signed a six-month deal, but was assigned to their B Team in the Segunda Division.

He impressed in there and was called up to the main side and was named on the bench for games against Real Sociedad and UD Almeria, finally making his debut for Madrid against Celta Vigo in May 2014, replacing Casemiro.

He was released from Real Madrid in June and then signed a one-year deal with Real Zaragoza, spending the year there before joining Las Palmas.

Jose scored goals against both Barcelona and Madrid while playing for the newly promoted side, but then opted to join Real Sociedad in July 2016, signing a five-year deal.

Stats behind his last two seasons

The stats make for good reading.

He scored 34 times in two seasons for Real Sociedad, banging 20 goals last season including four against Vardar Skopje in the Europa League, as well as netting in two separate games against Atletico Madrid and bagging one against Barcelona.

Jose also got into double figures for Las Palmas in the 2015/16 season, scoring 10 in 34.

Is he an international?

Jose is an U20 World Cup winner with Brazil where he scored twice for his country, while he also netted three times for Brazil in the South American Youth Championships, which they also won.

He was called up to the senior squad for Brazil's friendlies with Germany and Russia in 2018, but didn't feature in either of the games.

What's been said about a potential deal?

The Sun claim that Fulham are looking at a potential £26million deal for Jose should they not be able to push a deal for Mitrovic over the line.

Everton were reportedly in for Jose last season but opted to sign Sandro Ramirez and Wayne Rooney instead.

Having spent big on the signings of Jean Michael Seri and Maxime Le Marchand, it remains to be seen whether they'll spend this big on Jose.

Fulham table £26m bid for Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose as alternative to Aleksandar Mitrovic

Fulham have lodged a bid of £26million for Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose
The 26-year-old has established himself as one of the top strikers in La Liga
Fulham are looking at potential alternatives to forward Aleksandar Mitrovic
Mitrovic was only on loan from Newcastle and has returned to his parent club

Fulham have placed a £26million bid for Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose, as they look for potential replacement for targetman Aleksandar Mitrovic ahead of the coming Premier League season.

Jose has been earmarked as a forward who can provide the goals for the coming season, as Fulham prepare for life back in the Premier League.

Manager Slavisa Jokanovic wanted Mitrovic - who spent last season on loan with the Cottagers - on a permanent move after helping the club get promoted, but a deal has yet to be thrashed out.

Fulham have placed a £26million bid for Real Sociedad's talented young striker Willian Jose

After initial enquiries from Fulham for Brazil international Jose, the Spanish side made it known they wanted his £45m buy out clause.

Now the west London club have looked to test the resolve Sociedad's stance.

Fulham are still hopeful of finalising Mitrovic once he returns from holiday this week, with Newcastle talks set to continue.

Marek Rodák signing for Rotherham United "should happen"

Rotherham United are keen to resign goalkeeper Marek Rodák from Fulham and it "should happen" according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Slovakian goalkeeper Marek Rodak is top of the Rotherham gaffer's wish-list after his confident and composed loan spell during the promotion-winning campaign last season.

According to Alan Nixon, "Rodak should happen once Fulham have their guy in." It seems like they will have to play the waiting game for Rodak but come be worth it in the long run.

Fulham's young goalkeeper Rodak made 38 appearances last season for Rotherham, and he kept 12 clean sheets as they secured an immediate return to the Championship.

The 21-year-old goalkeeper enjoyed a whirlwind start to last season's campaign by firstly being handed his first start for parent club Fulham during their EFL Cup victory over Wycombe Wanderers, but then he decided to further his EFL experience by putting pen-to-paper on a season-long loan deal with Rotherham. Prior to this, Rodak has had temporary spells with Welling and League Two outfit Accrington Stanley in the last three seasons.

This summer, Rotherham United have signed Blackpool striker Kyle Vassell and defender Clark Robertson on three-year deals.

Kyle Vassell scored 11 goals in 29 league appearances for Blackpool last season.

Former Scotland Under-21 international Robertson started his career at Aberdeen before spending the last three seasons at Bloomfield Road.

Also, Rotherham United have signed Bristol City defender Zak Vyner on a season-long loan deal. And Rotherham have signed former Sunderland full-back Billy Jones. The 31-year-old, who was released by the Black Cats in the summer following their relegation to League One, has signed a two-year contract.

Fulham want Willian Jose transfer

Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose has emerged as a transfer target for newly-promoted English Premier League club Fulham, according to reports.

The 26-year-old has been prolific signing joining La Real two summers ago, netting 34 goals in 74 appearances for the club.

Reports in the Newcastle Chronicle say Newcastle United believe striker Aleksandar Mitrovic will no longer make his loan move to Craven Cottage permanent because of a potential deal for the Brazilian.

The striker initially moved to Europe in 2013 when he was signed by Real Madrid's Castilla team and he went on to have stints at Real Zaragoza and Las Palmas before joining La Real in 2016.

The Basque club would be likely to demand at least €30m for his signature and the striker's contract runs until June 2022.

Bad news for Benitez – Aleksandar Mitrovic's move to Fulham suddenly in serious doubt?

Some worrying news has emerged today, with reports from London and the North East both suggesting that Aleksandar Mitrovic's proposed move to Fulham is now in serious doubt – with the Cottagers 'considering other options' after failing to agree a fee as of yet.

As confirmed by The Chronicle, Mitrovic does not have a future under Rafa Benitez and has agreed terms with the West London club, but they are now said to be looking elsewhere.

Fulham have reportedly bid £26million for Willian Jose and the Real Sociedad star is keen on the move to England, a striker Newcastle have been linked with in the past but like always were priced out.

With his sale seeming so important to our hopes of signing a quality replacement and the man himself set to return on Tyneside within the next 48 hours, we could really do with this one being done.

Were the sale of Mitrovic to collapse it would be a devastating blow for Benitez – who knows he must 'sell to buy' this summer.

Everton must hijack £26m Fulham bid for Willian Jose

Everton must move quick to try and sign Real Sociedad forward Willian Jose this summer after it was reported that Fulham have tabled a bid for the Brazilian goal machine.

The Daily Mail has reported that the Cottagers have bid £26million for Jose, 26, as Slavisa Jokanovic eyes up a new spearhead to his attack for the upcoming Premier League season.

However Everton are still in need of finding a new No 9 of their own, and Marco Silva should look to hijack the London club's advances for the La Liga forward, after a stunning 2017/18 season saw him score 20 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions.

The Toffees were linked with signing Jose last summer when the Daily Mail claimed that he was admired by the transfer chiefs at Goodison Park, but considered too expensive.

To think that the Brazilian would cost too much is absolutely ridiculous by Everton's standards, with them overspending on pretty much all of their transfer over the last 12 months without really making any kind of improvement to the squad and their results.

Jose would have been miles better up front than Sandro Ramirez, Oumar Niasse or Cenk Tosun, and would continue to do so if Silva and director of football Marcel Brands were able to blow Fulham out of the water to sign him this summer instead.

It's not too late for the Evertonians to pull off a transfer masterstroke to sign Jose, who can become a real goal machine at Goodison if he is signed up for the upcoming campaign.

Report: Fulham told Willian Jose will cost £45million

Premier League newcomers Fulham have reportedly made a club-record bid to sign Willian Jose from La Liga outfit Real Sociedad

Willian Jose is one of the most underrated strikers in La Liga – but it seems that Fulham are very much aware of the Brazilian's goalscoring talents.

The former Real Madrid man enjoyed the best season of his career with Real Sociedad in 2017/18, scoring 20 goals in 40 games in all competitions. As a result, The Mail reports that Fulham have made a £26 million bid to sign Jose as The Cottagers look for alternatives to top target Aleksandar Mitrovic.

But Fulham will have to pay far more – and break their transfer record for a second time this summer – if they want to bring the 6ft 2ins targetman to Craven Cottage.

The report adds that Sociedad informed Fulham that they would not sell Jose for less than his £45 million buyout clause. The South American striker, then, would cost far more than the £25 million Fulham spent to lure Jean Michel Seri to West London earlier in July.

And he would be more expensive too than Mitrovic, who Newcastle United value at around £20 million according to the Standard.

26-year-old Willian Jose has scored 27 goals in the last two La Liga campaigns with La Real and was rewarded with a first ever Brazil call up for the friendlies against Russia and Germany in March.

Fulham now interested in signing another NUFC player – but only on one condition – Report

According to The Mirror, Fulham will make a move to sign Dwight Gayle if they fail to secure the signing of fellow Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

As confirmed by The Chronicle, Fulham are actually yet to agree a fee to sign the Serbian and it seems as though they are now considering potential plan b's.

This is not the first time Slavisa Jokanovic's has been linked with a move for Gayle – with them making a late £15m move to sign him last summer – however I'm struggling to see why they'd want him this time around.

Before we look at why it seems so unlikely, here's a snippet from Simon Bird's latest piece for The Mirror:

'Newcastle risk losing Dwight Gayle to Fulham — if the Cottagers' £20million deal for fellow Toon striker Aleksandar Mitrovic falls through.
'Serbia international Mitrovic is just two days from a return to training on Tyneside – where he has no future under boss Rafa Benitez – because the long-standing transfer has yet to be completed.
'Personal terms are said to have been agreed but nothing has been finalised between the clubs, although progress is anticipated this week.
'Gayle is a fall-back option for Fulham, who have also been linked with Brazilian striker Willian Jose.'

I can totally see why they wanted him last summer, with him being the sort of prolific Championship striker who could've fired them back to the top flight, but his form ever since has been unconvincing at Premier League level – the league they now find themselves in.

Fulham look set for a lower table finish in the Premier League if history is to be believed

History suggests that newly promoted sides don't finish outside the bottom half of the table

Only four out of 10 newly promoted Premier League teams end up getting relegated in their first season.

Fulham are back in the top flight after four seasons in the Championship and like most newly promoted sides, survival will no doubt be the Cottagers' first priority.

A total of 32 teams in the Premier League era went down at the first time of asking - that works out at 41% of them and when Fulham were last promoted to the top flight, they finished in 13th place.

Traditionally, newly promoted sides don't finish outside the bottom half of the league.

Only 16 sides in the Premier League era finished in the top 10 compared to the 61 sides who finished 11th or lower.

Being a newly promoted side doesn't mean a team can't achieve things though - back in 2000/01, 17 years ago, Ipswich Town finished 5th under Craig Burnley.

That took the Tractor Boys into Europe.

That was the highest finish for a newly promoted team since 1994/95 when Nottingham Forest finished 3rd.

(Image: Get Reading)

Five teams have managed to win the league in their first season after promotion to the top flight - Liverpool were the first to do it in 1905/06 after having won the old Second Division the season before.

Everton did the self same thing in 1931/32, as did Tottenham in 1950/51 beforeSir Alf Ramsey's Ipswich won the old First Division title at the first time of asking in 1961/62.

Brian Clough's Nottingham Forest were the last team to win the league in their first season back in 1977/78.

Report boosts Fulham's hopes of signing Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata

Premier League Fulham and Ligue 1 outfit Lyon were two of the clubs linked with Celtic's Scottish Premiership champion and World Cup star Boyata.

Fulham are willing to spend big as they aim to make a splash in their first season back in the Premier League.

They have already broken their transfer record for Jean Michel Seri while making big bids for La Liga duo David Lopes and Willian Jose. And, according to the Sun, Fulham are also interested in signing Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata, who they could offer a substantial pay increase to tempt him to Craven Cottage.

Fulham's hopes of landing the Belgian international appeared to suffer a blow, however, when Lyon emerged as a potential destination. The Ligue 1 giants have plenty of money to play with after selling centre-back Mouctar Diakhaby to Valencia and have the added advantage of offering Champions League football.

But latest reports from the Daily Record (live blog, 10.34am) will be music to the ears of Slavisa Jovanovic.

It is reported that Lyon have dropped out the race to sign Boyata as they are instead putting all of their efforts, and quite a bit of money, into signing Porto's Mexican World Cup star Hector Herrera.

As a result, Fulham's hopes have been boosted quite substantially. Though that is not to say a deal will be straightforward.

Boyata has just a year left on his contract and the Daily Record adds that Celtic are desperate to hold crunch talks and tie him down for the long haul.

Fabri Confirmed

The Club is delighted to confirm the signing of Fabricio Agosto Ramirez from Besiktas for an undisclosed fee.

30-year-old goalkeeper Fabri, as he is better known, has penned a three-year deal, with the Whites holding an option to extend by a further 12 months.

He is well known to Fulham's Goalkeeping Coach Jose Sambade Carreira, who he worked closely with at Deportivo de la Coruna.

Born in Las Palmas, Fabri came through the ranks at local side UD Vecindario before being snapped up by Deportivo in 2005.

His La Liga debut came in the 2007/08 season and he went on to make a handful of appearances in Spain's top flight with Deportivo, subsequent to his permanent move to Real Valladolid.

Fabri's first consistent run of games came while on loan at Recreativo Huelva in 2010/11, who he helped to a mid-table finish in the Segunda Division, keeping 15 clean sheets throughout the campaign.

His form earned him a switch to top flight outfit Real Betis, who had just won promotion as Segunda Liga champions in 2011.

Fabri battled with Castro for the number one jersey at Betis, displacing his compatriot in goal midway through the 2011/12 campaign and going on to play 15 times in the league before the end of the season.

He rejoined Deportivo for 2013/14 and was part of the side which won promotion back to La Liga at the first time of asking, and the following term his 11 clean sheets in 31 appearances helped the club secure its top flight status.

A year later, Fabri joined Besiktas who had just won the Turkish Super Lig. Established as the number one goalkeeper, he kept 14 clean sheets as Besiktas retained their title in 2016/17.

Last term wasn't as prosperous for the club, but Fabri still only conceded 30 goals in his 34 league outings as Besiktas finished fourth.

During his time in Turkey Fabri featured in European competition for the first time, making 11 appearances in the Champions League, and six in the Europa League, while he was also voted as the best goalkeeper in the Super Lig for the last two years in a row.

Speaking at Motspur Park upon signing, Fabri said: "I'm delighted to be at an historic club like Fulham, the oldest club in London. I'm very happy to have the opportunity to be in the Premier League with Fulham.

"Everything is very positive for me and I want to take the opportunity to make the most of this goal of being in the Premier League."

Tony Khan added: "I'm pleased to announce that Fulham FC has completed the permanent signing of goalkeeper Fabri from Besiktas. He is a tremendous player that we've targeted for some time.

"His scouting profile and his data profile are both strong, and he has exceptional career credentials including Champions League experience, plus he has worked well with our First Team Goalkeeping Coach Jose Sambade Carreira in the past, so we expect his addition will make us a more complete and competitive football club. Come on Fulham!"

Fulham tie up deal for Besiktas goalkeeper Fabri

The club sold David Button to Brighton last week and have signed the 30-year-old to provide competition to Marcus Bettinelli

Fulham have tied up a deal for Besiktas goalkeeper Farbicio Ramirez, signing the keeper on a three-year deal with the option of a further year.

The Spanish shot stopper has signed for the club after the west London side allowed David Button to move to Brighton and Hove Albion and is to provide competition with Marcus Bettinelli in the Premier League this season.

Known as Fabri, the 30-year-old kept 12 clean sheets in the Turkish Super Lig last season as Besiktas finished fourth and had spent two seasons in Turkey.

He is Fulham's third signing of the summer, joining former Nice pair Jean-Michael Seri and Maxime La Marchand at Craven Cottage for the coming season.

Fabri is an unusual signing for Fulham, whose recruitment model usually rules out players over the age of 28 unless they can bring an immediate benefit to the side, but it's believed that Fabri was signed on the recommendation of goalkeeping coach Jose Sambede Carreira, who coached Fabri when he was part of the Besiktas coaching team.

The deal for the Spanish keeper should also see Marek Rodak leave the club on another loan spell with Rotherham United, a club with whom he won promotion to the Championship last season with via the play-offs.

Fulham's new goalkeeper Fabricio Agosto Ramirez (Image: VALERY HACHE/AFP/Getty Images)

He was due to sign for the Millers earlier on in the summer window, but an injury to Bettinelli and the sale of Button meant that Fulham wouldn't sanction a move for him until a replacement keeper was signed.

Rodak signed a new deal at Fulham earlier on this year, which will see him stay at the Cottage until 2020, but a move to Rotherham is seen as the best thing for his development at this stage in his career.

Goalkeeper Fabri joins Fulham from Besiktas

Cottagers bring in Turkish Super Lig's goalkeeper of the past two seasons on a three-year deal

Fulham have announced the signing of Besiktas goalkeeper Fabricio Agosto Ramirez for an undisclosed fee.

The 30-year-old Spaniard, known as Fabri, has agreed a three-year deal with the option for another 12 months.

He is Fulham's third summer signing and joins following the departure of goalkeeper David Button to Brighton & Hove Albion.

"I'm very happy to have the opportunity to be in the Premier League with Fulham," he told the club's official website.

"Everything is very positive for me and I want to take the opportunity to make the most of this goal of being in the Premier League."

Fabri kept 12 clean sheets for Besiktas in the Turkish Super Lig last season and one in the UEFA Champions League.

In 34 league appearances in 2017/18 he conceded only 30 goals and was voted the best Super Lig goalkeeper in each of the past two seasons, winning the title in 2016/17.

Fabri is in line to become the eighth Spanish goalkeeper to appear in the Premier League after Jose Reina, David De Gea, Adrian, Manuel Almunia, Joel Robles, Victor Valdes and Ricardo.

Fulham begin their return to the Premier League at home to Crystal Palace on 11 August.

Fabri: Fulham sign goalkeeper from Besiktas on three-year deal

Fabri was part of the Besiktas team beaten 8-1 on aggregate by Bayern Munich in the Champions League last 16 in 2017-18

Premier League newcomers Fulham have signed Spanish goalkeeper Fabri from Besiktas on a three-year deal for a reported £5m fee.

Fabri, 30, worked with Fulham goalkeeping coach Jose Sambade Carreira at Deportivo La Coruna.

Marcus Bettinelli was Fulham's first-choice keeper for the second half of last season, while back-up David Button joined Brighton last week.

"I'm happy to have the opportunity to be in the Premier League," said Fabri.

Fabri helped Besiktas win the 2017 Turkish Super Lig title, and last season conceded just 30 goals in 34 league appearances as they finished fourth.

He also took his number of Champions League appearances to 11 after helping Besiktas reach the last 16.

Fulham have an option to extend Fabri's contract by a further 12 months.

Agent to meet current club today, as Fulham 'continue to press' for transfer

There's yet another Catalan article on the future of David Lopez, a potential renewal, and a possible move to Fulham this summer.

Mundo Deportivo report Lopez's agent is set to meet Espanyol on Tuesday afternoon and the club will present their latest renewal offer for the central defender.

The contract includes a financial upgrade on what the Spaniard is currently being paid, but there's a downside.

The improvement isn't as much as Lopez was 'promised' a year ago.

That means that not only have the club been continually stalling since that time, so Lopez has missed out on the increased wages during that period, but he'll now be offered less.

He's losing out twice.

A decision will likely be made today on what happens, and Mundo Deportivo reports Fulham 'continue to press' to make the transfer happen.

Whilst no figures are mentioned in this specific article, it's stated the Premier League club have made an 'important economic proposal'.

'Everything is very positive for me and I want to take the opportunity to make the most of this goal of being in the Premier League.'

Fabri began his career with Deportivo La Coruna and also had spells with fellow Spanish sides Real Valladolid, Recreativo de Huelva, and Real Betis.

He is well known to Fulham's goalkeeping coach, Jose Sambade Carreira, having worked with him at Deportivo.

He moved to Turkey in 2016, playing Champions League and Europa League football for Besiktas, and was also voted the best goalkeeper in the Super Lig for the last two years.

Fulham vice-chairman Tony Khan said: 'He is a tremendous player that we've targeted for some time.

'His scouting profile and his data profile are both strong, and he has exceptional career credentials including Champions League experience, plus he has worked well with our first team goalkeeping coach Jose Sambade Carreira in the past, so we expect his addition will make us a more complete and competitive football club.'

Fabri becomes Fulham's third new signing since their promotion from the Championship following the arrivals of Maxime Le Marchand and Jean Michael Seri from Nice.
