He was a great, great keeper as is proved by his international career, however as a kid I can recall him having several distinctly dodgy games at the Cottage. RIP

Will never forget it, can even remember exactly where I was watching the game. A true gentleman and a real legend

Andy S

Every keeper has the odd dodgy game but Banksie didn't have many lt was his positioning that was so good

Woolly Mammoth

Absolutely Magnificent Goalkeeper, the best, made goalkeeping look easy. His positioning was sublime, and that save in 1970 from Pele, bordered on the miraculous.
In those days there was no protection for Goalkeepers like today, where now you only have to breath on a keeper and he his rolling over holding his wallet.
What a bunch of spoilt pansies many footballers are today.
Rest in Peace Gordon, they don't make them like you anymore.
Its not the man in the fight, it's the fight in the man.  🐘

Never forget your Roots.

Cambridge Pete

Another true great gone. RIP Gordon

WhiteJC

Where there's a will there's a wife

Even better Tony Macedo. RIP Gordon

Twig

The word legend is much overused but if ever there was a legend of the game Gordon Banks was one. RIP Gordon Banks, you made the art of goalkeeping look deceptively simple.

HV71

Wonderful goalkeeper and the definition of ' safe hands' . The man was a giant in that World Cup winning team and a true gentleman off the pitch RIP

When I was a kid, I used to say that I supported Stoke City.  The reason being that I was told Gordon Banks was the greatest goalkeeper in the world and he played for Stoke.  He was my hero as a kid.  As a 9 year old my school had a trip to Chessington Zoo.  Most of my classmates were in one train carriage, but I was in another with a couple of friends.  All my classmates in that other carriage got off the train with Gordon Banks' autograph.  I was totally gutted that I had missed meeting my hero.  RIP Gordon.

Echo all the tributes to Gordon Banks, that save of all time from Pele, and one of the most gifted keepers ever to have played in England.  RIP.

Fernhurst

Very sad news .... Condolences to his family and many friends.

All the 66 squad feel like special  members  of the old sods army as they were young when we were young.
Rest In Peace Gordon, so much respect from so many people.
The atmosphere's fresh and the debate lively.
