Huddersfield Town 1-2 Fulham

Ivan Cavaleiro (second left) won it for Fulham with his first goal for the club

Huddersfield sacked head coach Jan Siewert an hour after losing at home to Fulham, with Ivan Cavaleiro's superb goal securing victory over the struggling Terriers.

Huddersfield remain winless this season and Siewert had been under growing pressure following Tuesday's home Carabao Cup defeat by League One Lincoln City.

The visitors had the better of an even first half and took the lead after the break when Juninho Bacuna's horribly miscued clearance proved to be the perfect cross for Aleksandar Mitrovic to head home.

Town levelled when Karlan Grant's header from Flo Hadergjonaj's centre just crossed the line despite the attempts of Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli, but Cavaleiro won it with a wonderful curled finish from just inside the area.

Huddersfield, relegated from the Premier League alongside Fulham last season, have not won in any competition since February and have taken just one point from their first three games this season.

Grant's header, awarded by the referee with the aid of goal line technology, had looked set to give them a second successive 1-1 draw.

But Wolves loanee Cavaleiro was afforded too much time after Town failed to deal with a looped Steven Sessegnon cross and the Portuguese forward showed his class to secure a second successive league win for Fulham.

Terriers goalkeeper Kamil Grabara had earlier made two good saves from Anthony Knockaert and the score would have been worse but for the performance of the Liverpool loanee.

Siewert said after Tuesday's defeat by the Imps that he did not fear for his job, but his record stood at one win from his 19 matches when his departure was confirmed.

Huddersfield travel to fellow relegated side Cardiff on Wednesday, while Scott Parker's side host Millwall on the same evening.

Head Coach press conference

Scott Parker was delighted by the reaction shown by his Fulham side after a sluggish first 45 minutes away at Huddersfield Town on Friday night.

A late winner from Ivan Cavaleiro was enough to see the Whites return South with a precious three points away from home after being pegged back by a stubborn Huddersfield outfit.

With the match appearing to be heading for a stalemate Parker was pleased by the moment of brilliance produced by the Portuguese winger.

"It was a good goal to be fair," he stated. "But I think what pleased me most was Cav's second half performance.

"In the first half he couldn't really get into the game. He was very down at half-time. What pleases me is his second half performance. It was chalk and cheese.

"From that second half performance he earns the right to score a great goal which is worthy of winning a football match."

Following a tough season in the Premier League last year for both sides, Parker is thrilled by the reaction that he has seen following the opening day loss away at Oakwell.

"When you come down from the Premier League you lose confidence," Parker reflected. "It becomes a habit losing football matches. You aren't winning and you don't win football matches.

"Your morale is down and it's difficult. You have to get to grips with life in the Championship and understand what a tough league this is.

"It is relentless at times and you have to adapt to that. Our eyes opened wide after the first game of the season against Barnsley.

"It gave us the wake-up call that we all needed. To a man we have been superb since then. We know what this is all about and the last two results have been fantastic.

"Friday night. Away at Huddersfield. They have been struggling. We knew it would be hard but in the first half we were rushing things a little bit.

"We were forcing things forward when we didn't need to. At half-time we spoke about it. We wanted to build a platform to build our attacks and work our moments and we did that.

"In the second half we looked every bit like what I want us to look like."

Huddersfield 1-2 Fulham: Jan Siewert sacked after home defeat
Karlan Grant cancelled out Aleksandar Mitrovic's opener, before Ivan Cavaleiro scored winner

Ivan Cavaleiro scored a sumptuous winner as Fulham won 2-1 at Huddersfield, who sacked manager Jan Siewert following the result.

The defeat left Huddersfield with just four wins in their previous 51 competitive fixtures and Siewert's departure was announced shortly after the final whistle.

It was, in fact, the hosts who had dominated the first half, but Aleksandar Mitrovic netted the opener six minutes after the break when he leapt above Tommy Elphick to head past Terriers' stopper Kamil Grabara.

Karlan Grant scored his third goal in as many games to level (57), but on-loan Wolves forward Cavaleiro settled the match with a delightful curling effort 10 minutes from time.

Fulham move up to third after their second win of the season.

How Fulham triumphed despite Huddersfield's early threat
Huddersfield's relegation hangover had been laid bare in the opening weeks of the season, with a midweek Carabao Cup defeat to Lincoln increasing speculation about Siewert's future at the club, but it started surprisingly brightly in west Yorkshire.

Aleksandar Mitrovic celebrates Fulham's victory at Huddersfield with Joe Bryan

The Terriers pressed high and prevented their opponents passing out from the back, calling debutant right-back Steven Sessegnon into action early to block Lewis O'Brien's effort, before Alex Pritchard's low shot skimmed the outside of the left-hand post.

Wasteful Cavaliero passed up two significant chances, but though the hosts' creativity continued to give them an edge, Joe Bryan tested Kamil Grabara with a low, angled drive just before the break.

Rarely one to remain in the shadows, Mitrovic bettered a quiet first half as he got Scott Parker's side off and running six minutes after the restart. Helped by a wild clearance by Juninho Bacuna across his own penalty area, the Serbian frontman powered home, though Elphick was positioned goal-side.

Team news
Aside from the inclusion of Juninho Bacuna, Terriers boss Jan Siewert fielded an entirely different starting line-up following the shock Carabao Cup defeat to Lincoln in midweek. It was, however, similar to the side that drew 1-1 with QPR last weekend, with Elias Kachunga replacing Adam Diakhaby.

For Fulham there was just one alteration: Steven Sessegnon replaced Denis Odoi at right-back to make his league debut for the club exactly three years to the day that his twin brother Ryan achieved the same feat.

The goal decision system was required to adjudge whether Grant's angled header had crossed the line before Marcus Bettinelli palmed it clear, but though referee James Linington pointed to his watch to confirm the goal, ultimately, it was not enough to arrest the hosts' alarming start.

Mitrovic brought down Sessegnon's deep cross from the right and laid the ball off to Tom Cairney who, in turn, passed to Cavaleiro. He stalled for a second to allow Joe Bryan to make a decoy run on the overlap, before curling a the superb winner.

Man of the match - Ivan Cavaleiro
In his post-match interview, Fulham captain Tom Cairney joked that he was surprised to see the Portuguese pick up the man-of-the-match award after a frustrating first half, but he turned around his performance in the second half.

His intuition created several chances for the Whites, while his calm, collected finish that won the game was, without a doubt, the highlight of the evening.

The managers
Scott Parker:
"I'm delighted. We had a tough start to the season away at Barnsley but [the last two games have been] two big results for us and an away victory for us today was positive. I think the Barnsley game was a little bit of a wake-up call...we have a lot of technical players and I think where we fell short, certainly against Barnsley, was in our mentality.

"I thought the second half tonight for us was exceptional, to be honest with you. I made a couple of tweaks at half-time and I felt that, at times, we cut through them, got our dangerous players on the ball in the right area, took massive risks in the way that we play and I think that's what pleases me most."

How much pressure was Jan Siewert under?
Prior to his sacking, which was announced an hour after the full-time whistle, the pressure was growing on Jan Siewert after a winless start to the season. Speaking on Sky Sports after full-time, former Derby, Stoke and Birmingham boss Gary Rowett gave his thoughts on the situation.

He said: "It is a lonely place and there are times when, as soon as that whistle goes, you want to get down that tunnel. We've spoken about how early it is in the season but you can hear the fans reaction because this is a fallout from last season as well.

Aleksandar Mitrovic could face a two-game ban after disgraceful playacting v Huddersfield

The Championship is back with a bang.

Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton have both enjoyed faultless starts to the new campaign, while for the likes of Stoke and Reading, there have been the same old problems.

On Friday night, it was over to two of the sides relegated from the Premier League last season as Huddersfield and Fulham went head to head.

The Terriers' defence doesn't seem to have got much better over the summer, that's for sure.

They suffered a 2-1 defeat, Ivan Cavaleiro scoring a fine winner for the west Londoners with 10 minutes of normal time remaining.

It was a perfectly produced team goal from the visitors, curled into the top corner by the Portuguese.

Aleksandar Mitrovic had opened the scoring for Fulham, but unfortunately the striker is likely to hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons instead.

The Serbian was guilty of some first-class playacting as he pretended to have been hit in the face while down on the floor.

Surely Scott Parker will be having words. It shouldn't put a dampener on what was otherwise a very productive night for his side as they moved up to third.

However, the Football League have set a precedent for this sort of behaviour, Patrick Bamford and Dwight Gayle both having received two-game bans for 'deceiving the referee' last season.

A similar suspension really ought to be incoming and questions will be asked if Mitrovic isn't punished.

Football fans react
What we *should* be talking about is the 24-year-old's very impressive record in the second tier - 14 goals in his last 17 Championship appearances, to be precise.

Instead, there was uproar, and understandably so, from football fans who want to see action taken against him.

Ivan Cavaleiro strikes late winner as Fulham beat Huddersfield to continue impressive start in Championship

Winning: Scott Parker's Fulham remain unbeaten after a 2-1 win over Huddersfield. ( PA )

Ivan Cavaleiro struck a late winner as Fulham continued their unbeaten start to life in the Championship with a 2-1 victory over Huddersfield Town.

The Portuguese, on loan from Wolves, hit the winner with a beautiful curling effort 10 minutes from time to sink the struggling Yorkshiremen.

Karlan Grant's third goal of the campaign had earlier cancelled out Aleksandar Mitrovic's opener.

Calls for Siewert to be sacked had grown earlier in the week after the Terriers were dumped out of the Carabao Cup at the hands of Lincoln.

The under-fire German has won just one match as manager, with relegated Huddersfield failing to win a game since February.

The Terriers enjoyed the best of the first half but once again their goal-shy attack, which has scored just seven times from open play in 18 games under Siewert, failed to deliver.

Steven Sessegnon, who was making his league debut for Fulham, produced a brilliant lunging block to keep out Lewis O'Brien's third minute effort as Huddersfield started quickly.

Alex Pritchard flashed a long range effort wide on seven minutes as the Terriers continued to look positive.

Cavaleiro sent a curing effort wide a minute later after Kamil Grabara flapped at a cross.

The forward then scuffed an effort straight at Grabara on 18 minutes following a surging run into the danger zone.

Terence Kongolo headed wide from a 28th minute corner, before Pritchard won another corner a minute later as Huddersfield kept up the pressure.

It led to increased frustration among the home fans as possession was squandered in key areas in the run up to half-time.

Grabara got down well to keep out Joe Bryan's fierce shot across goal on 41 minutes during a rare Fulham attack.

Mitrovic blazed over at the start of the second half after his initial shot had been blocked by Christopher Schindler.

Grabara turned an Anthony Knockaert shot away with his legs as the visitors started to turn the screw.

And they got their reward when Mitrovic beat Tommy Elphick at the back post to head home on 51 minutes after Juninho Bacuna had initially made a mess of a clearance.

But the lead lasted just six minutes when Grant got his third of the season after his header hit the post and was ruled by goal-line technology to have crossed the line.

Grabara got the better of Knockaert in a one-on-one on 60 minutes as the game began to open up.

And the Cottagers wrapped it up late on when Cavaleiro curled into the top corner after he had been given far too much space on the corner of the box.

Late Cavaleiro curler snatches victory for Fulham at Huddersfield
Huddersfield remain winless on their return to the Championship.

KARLAN GRANT SCORED for the third Championship game in a row but Ivan Cavaleiro struck late to earn Fulham a 2-1 win at Huddersfield Town on Friday.

Fulham took the lead in the 51st minute when Juninho Bacuna hacked an awful clearance into the air with Aleksandar Mitrovic climbing above Tommy Elphick to profit on the error by nodding home at the back post.

Their advantage lasted only six minutes as Grant's third goal of the season levelled the scores, the striker's header narrowly crossing the line despite the best efforts of Cottagers goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli.

But Fulham followed a 2-0 home win over Blackburn Rovers last time out with another three points against their fellow relegated outfit, who are yet to win this term, when Cavaleiro whipped in a fantastic finish in the 80th minute.

Huddersfield sack manager Jan Siewert after just one win in 19 games in charge during his seven-month spell

Jan Siewert was dismissed as Huddersfield Town manager late on Friday night
Siewert was axed following their 2-1 Championship home defeat by Fulham
The 36-year-old only managed to win once during his 19 games in charge there

Huddersfield are on the hunt for a new manager after sacking Jan Siewert late on Friday night.

The Terriers sent their boss packing after a 2-1 home defeat against Fulham in the Championship that evening.

The 36-year-old German managed just one victory from his 19 games in charge.

Huddersfield have sacked manager Jan Siewert after just one win in 19 games in charge

Siewert was sacked on Friday night - shortly after Huddersfield lost 2-1 at home to Fulham

Siewert took over in January after David Wagner left the club but could not prevent their relegation from the Premier League - and a poor start to this season has cost him his job.

Siewert's only win was a 1-0 victory over Wolves in his fifth game at the helm as Huddersfield finished bottom, relegated by March.

A club statement read: 'Huddersfield Town has this evening terminated the contract of head coach Jan Siewert with immediate effect.

'Siewert joined the club from Borussia Dortmund in January 2019 in the club's ultimately unsuccessful fight against relegation from the Premier League and led the team in the first four competitive games of the new season, with his final game in charge being the Sky Bet Championship defeat to Fulham on Friday evening.

'No further comment will be made this evening.'

Assistant manager Mark Hudson has been appointed as caretaker boss and will in charge for next game - which is a trip to Cardiff City on Wednesday night.

Calls for Siewert to be sacked had grown earlier in the week after the Terriers were dumped out of the Carabao Cup at the hands of Lincoln.

And the club acted on Friday night after their third match without a win in the Championship, with Ivan Cavaleiro's curling effort 10 minutes from time giving Fulham victory.

Cavaleiro's cracker clinches Fulham win

A moment of magic from Ivan Cavaleiro clinched back to back wins for Scott Parker as Fulham recorded an impressive 2-1 win at Huddersfield Town tonight.

The Portuguese winger settled the contest with a stunning curler from the edge of the box that left the outstanding Kamil Grabara clutching at thin air with ten minutes to play. Cavaleiro's first goal for the Whites was enough to secure an encouraging away win from a contest that Fulham had dominated, but were pegged back when Karlan Grant's second half header threatened to punish the Londoners for their profligacy.

Parker had made one change from the side that had recorded their first win of the season last weekend against Blackburn, handing teenage defender Steven Sessegnon his first league start at right back. The visitors were indebted to the youngster's quick thinking when he bravely blocked a venomous drive from from Lewis O'Brien. Huddersfield were after a quick start, but instead they grew gradually into a contest that began with patient Fulham probing.

Parker's side spurned several good openings in the first half. The lively Anthony Knockaert posed Huddersfield problems throughout and when Grabara clawed away a dangerous low cross, Stefan Johansen teed up Cavaleiro, who steered a shot disappointingly wide of the far post. A lovely one-two between Johansen and Joe Bryan sent the left back surging into the Huddersfield area but he opted to try and beat Grabara at his near post when the better option might have been a pull back for the unmarked Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Huddersfield had ended the first period the stronger with a number of threatening raids down the right from full back Florent Hadergjonaj but, after a stern half-time talking to from Parker, Fulham emerged full of intent. Both Mitrovic and Knockaert spurned decent chances before the Serbian striker was denied by a smart block from Christopher Schlinder and drove the rebound over the crossbar.

Fulham's pressure was building, but when the breakthrough came it owed much to a mistake from Juninho Bacuna. The Huddersfield midfielder was trying to prevent a through ball from reaching Cavaleiro by the byline but he ended up hooking the ball inviting across his own goal, allowing Mitrovic to outjump Tommy Elphick and head home from three yards out.

But Fulham contrived to throw away their advantage just six minutes later. Hadergjonaj powered down the right and sent over a dangerous cross which former Charlton forward Grant met with a powerful header from eight yards. The ball ricocheted off the post and over the line via Marcus Bettinelli's body – and belief suddenly surged through the John Smith's Stadium.

Parker has built his side to attack and Fulham went straight back to it. A beautifully weighted pass through the heart of the Huddersfield defence sent Knockaert scampering clear but Grabara surged his line to block the French winger's finish and preserve parity. The Fulham manager certainly wasn't settling for a point – sending on Bobby Decordova-Reid to add to his side's attacking arsenal and the red shirts began to swarm around the Huddersfield box.

It needed a moment of real quality to beat the inspired Grabara and Cavaleiro, who had been largely anonymous in a diffident first half, provided it. Taking advantage of the extra yard provided by Bryan's decoy run on his outside, the on-loan Wolves winger bent a beautiful finish around Grabara and into the top corner to restore Fulham's lead. They might have stretched their advantage when Decordova-Reid found some space in the penalty area, but the Huddersfield goalkeeper pulled off another smart save.

Town piled on the pressure in the closing stages, but the only moment of real alarm came in stoppage time when Terence Kongolo muscled his way onto a long ball from O'Brien at the back post but his attempted cross lacked the power to reach Grant and was gratefully smothered by Bettinelli. This defeat meant a brittle Huddersfield side have managed just four wins in 51 competitive games, but an early sacking would be exceptionally harsh on the likeable Jan Siewert, who inherited a thankless task in the second half of last season.

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN (4-3-3): Grabara; Hadergjonaj, Kongolo, Elphick, Schindler; Bacuna (Chalobah 54), Hogg, O'Brien; Kachunga (Mounie 83), Pritchard (van La Parra 84), Grant. Subs (not used): Schofield, Bockhorn, Diakhaby, Quaner.

BOOKED: Kachunga, Hogg.

Huddersfield sack coach Jan Siewert after one win in seven months

• Decision made after Friday night defeat by Fulham
• Side have picked up just one Championship point

Huddersfield have sacked their manager, Jan Siewert, following their 2-1 home defeat by Fulham in the Championship night. The 37-year-old German managed only one victory from his 19 games in charge.

Siewert took over in January after David Wagner left the club but could not prevent their relegation from the Premier League.

His only win was a 1-0 victory over Wolves in his fifth game at the helm as Huddersfield finished bottom, relegated by March.

A club statement read: "Huddersfield Town has this evening terminated the contract of head coach Jan Siewert with immediate effect."

Huddersfield's poor form continued into this season, with the club having picked up a single point from their opening three Championship games. They were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup at home to League One Lincoln.

Huddersfield's statement added: "Siewert joined the club from Borussia Dortmund in January 2019 in the club's ultimately unsuccessful fight against relegation from the Premier League and led the team in the first four competitive games of the new season, with his final game in charge being the Sky Bet Championship defeat to Fulham on Friday evening.

"No further comment will be made this evening."

Ivan Cavaleiro's stunning curler for Fulham 10 minutes from time proved the final straw for the Huddersfield hierarchy after Karlan Grant's third goal of the season had cancelled out Aleksandar Mitrovic's opener early in the second half.

Huddersfield move to sack Siewert following Fulham loss

Huddersfield Town have confirmed they have sacked manager Jan Siewert following their loss to Fulham last night.

The Terriers' 2-1 defeat to Scott Parker's men made it 14 games without a win since Siewert took over from David Wagner with the club still in the Premier League and appears to have been the final nail in the coffin for the German coach.

Huddersfield were made to pay for another poor home display as goals for the Cottagers from Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ivan Cavaleiro made it two wins in a row for the London club.

The Terriers will now be on the lookout for a new manager, bringing an end to a miserable spell in charge for the German.

Siewert only took the reins a matter of months ago when lauded manager David Wagner left the club, and following a journey which saw the Yorkshire club get to the Premier League before defying the odds to stay up in their first season, the club are once again in search of a new man in charge.

Karlan Grant's equaliser against Fulham gave Huddersfield fans hope of getting at least a point, but they once again failed to hold on as Wolves loanee Cavaleiro netted the winner with ten minutes remaining.

The Verdict

It's hard to say this hasn't been coming and Siewert can hardly argue the point if he has indeed been sacked.

The German has simply never got going and seems to have lacked the trust of his players ever since taking over from Wagner.

There's enough talent there for Huddersfield to do well, but it needs shaking up massively or the unthinkable second successive relegation might not be too far round the corner.

MATCH REPORT: TOWN 1-2 FULHAM

Huddersfield Town were left empty handed under the lights at the John Smith's Stadium following a 2-1 defeat to Fulham in the Sky Bet Championship.

Karlan Grant did get Town level in the second-half with his third league goal in three games after Aleksandar Mitrović had put Fulham ahead, but it was Ivan Cavaleiro's curling effort in the closing stages that was enough to secure the win for the visitors.

Huddersfield Town Head Coach Jan Siewert made one change to the side that started Town's game at QPR just under a week ago, with Elias Kachunga replacing Adama Diakhaby for the Terriers.

Heavy rain in West Yorkshire had been prominent throughout the day prior to the Friday night kick-off between two sides that faced each other in the Premier League last season.

Town's spirits weren't dampened early on however, with only Steven Sessegnon's block stopping home debutant Lewis O'Brien's shot after the ball fell to him in space inside the penalty area.

Alex Pritchard had also found himself with a lot of room out on the left in the opening exchanges with his best chance coming with a 20-yard driven shot that found the side-netting of the Fulham goal.

The visitors came back with a chance of their own soon after. After good work on the right, Anthony Knockaert whipped a low cross in that found the feet of fellow loan signing Ivan Cavaleiro who curled his effort wide of the far post.

The Town fans were making their presence known inside the John Smith's Stadium too. They were on their feet to applaud a superb ball-winning challenge from Terence Kongolo that set Alex Pritchard away and drew the foul from Fulham's Steven Sessegnon, resulting in a yellow card for the defender.

After the early-game rain, the sun made a brief appearance as Ivan Cavaleiro manoeuvred his way into the Town box before seeing his effort comfortably gathered by Town 'keeper by Kamil Grabara.

On the game's official matchday programme stood Jonathan Hogg accompanied with the words 'The General' and the Town midfielder was certainly living up to that nickname on the pitch, calmly intercepting a developing Fulham attack to help keep the scores deadlocked on 22 minutes.

Scott Parker's side continued to attempt to develop attacks from wide areas and nearly found the opener less than five minutes before the break, but Joe Bryan's powerful effort was superbly parried to safety by Kamil Grabara.

That kept the scores level going into the break and it was Christopher Schindler who had to do the same less than two minutes after the interval. Town's skipper put in a well-timed sliding challenge to block Aleksandar Mitrović's attempt before the Serbian striker fired the rebound over.

Grabara was then in the thick of the action again just moments later, sticking out his right leg to keep out Anthony Knockaert's low goal-bound effort.

The pressure continued to build and it eventually told as the visitors got their goal on 51 minutes. Juninho Bacuna's miscued clearance from the right side of the penalty area flew across the box as Aleksandar Mitrović - poised at the back post - towered over the defender and headed the ball into the back of the net to put Fulham in the ascendancy.

That lead lasted less than six minutes however, as Karlan Grant nodded Town level to the delight of the Town fans inside the John Smith's Stadium.

The forward connected with Florent Hadergjonaj's cross from the right and despite Marcus Bettinelli's best efforts in the Fulham goal, the ball was adjudged to have crossed the line meaning Grant made it three goals in successive league games.

Down the other end, Kamil Grabara displayed a strong left hand to keep out Steven Sessegnon's shot that looked to be creeping inside the near post.

Aleksandar Mitrović's presence at the back post was causing problems for Town however and with just 10 minutes to go, he took down a cross that would ultimately see the visitors restore their lead.

After gaining control of the ball, the forward found Tom Cairney who rolled it to Ivan Cavaleiro as the winger bent one into the far top corner to put Fulham 2-1 up.

Looking to hit back immediately for the second time in the game, Town made a double change with both Steve Mounié and Rajiv van La Parra entering the fray in place of Elias Kachunga and Alex Pritchard.

Five minutes of time was added on at the end of the 90 minutes as Town looked to salvage a point, but the visitors held firm to claim all three points in the Friday night encounter at the John Smith's Stadium.

Next up for Town is a midweek trip to the Welsh Capital to face Cardiff City on Wednesday 21 August 2019 in the Sky Bet Championship; 7.45pm kick-off.

'The absolute state of this from Aleksandar Mitrovic... ban him': Fans call for Fulham ace to be given a suspension after he feigned injury during clash with Rajiv Van La Parra

Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic could be hit with a two-match ban following his shameful antics at Huddersfield on Friday night.

Mitrovic opened the scoring with a header in the 51st minute as the visitors claimed their second successive victory in the Championship.

But the controversial striker was at the centre of a fresh storm for his theatrics in the final stages of the match at John Smith's Stadium.

Mitrovic was bundled over by Rajiv van La Parra and as both men lay on the ground, the latter moved his arm towards the face of the Serbian.

However despite their being no contact, Mitrovic began rolling round the floor with his hands covering his face.

Mitrovic has been widely condemned on social media, with fans calling for him to be banned for simulation like Patrick Bamford and Dwight Gayle

'Absolutely shameless from Mitrovic, no contact and rolling around,' one said.

A second fan added 'Shouldn't Mitrovic get a two game ban for this like Bamford and Gayle did?'

Another said: 'Mitrovic amateur dramatics for Fulham at Huddersfield an absolute embarrassment. Just awful play acting.'

Wolves fans react to Ivan Cavaleiro performance for Fulham

Ivan Cavaleiro was the hero for Fulham in the Championship on Friday night – and some Wolverhampton Wanderers fans reacted on Twitter to his match-winning performance.

The 25-year-old attacker joined Fulham from Wolves this summer on a season-long loan, which includes the option to buy at the end of the campaign (BBC).

Cavaleiro has dropped down to the Championship for more regular minutes and he's started the opening three league fixtures.

The rapid winger scored a late winning goal for Fulham on Friday in a 2-1 victory away to Huddersfield Town.

He picked up the ball just inside the box and bent the ball into the far top corner with his favoured right foot.

Cavaleiro is still a Wolves player for now and the loanee got off the mark with an eye-catching strike in the Championship.

He's shown he can be a hit in England's second-tier after achieving promotion at Molineux to the top-flight, but it didn't quite happen for him last season.

The dazzling wide man played just 29 times across all competitions for Nuno Espirito Santo's team and scored five goals, which has eventually led to his departure.

A selection of Wolves supporters on social media reacted to Cavaleiro's goal and several are convinced he should have been kept in the squad.

'Excellent second half' -These Fulham fans were delighted with second successive win

Fulham made it two wins on the spin with a fine away victory at Huddersfield Town last night.

Goals from Aleksandar Mitrovic in the first half followed by a late winner from Ivan Cavaleiro were enough to get Scott Parker's men over the line in Yorkshire.

The win for Fulham saw Huddersfield manager Jan Siewert given his marching orders, while Scott Parker will have been encouraged from what he saw from his players over the course of the 90 minutes.

Fulham have been lauded as one of the pre-season favourites thanks in part to their excellent attacking threat, but after losing their opeining game of the season against Barnsley, manager Parker will be relieved to see two wins on the board.

Summer signing Cavaleiro proving the match winner showed just how much of a threat the Cottagers have at the top end of the field and there was a host of Fulham fans who took time out on Twitter following the game to share their delight at the win.
