How can David Robert Joseph Beckham get a LIFETIME achievement award when he's only 35 ???
It doesn't make sense. Ok, he's in his professional footballing twilight years but I hope, for his sake, that he's not coming to the end of his lifetime and than he can still achieve things in the game and his life.
I suppose its just another example of how everything has to be viewed as 'awesome' and OTT nowadays, regardless of its real merit.

P.S. I don't really intend this to be a grumpy ol' post. Honest
Finn and Corked Hat, you are forever part of the family.

It is a ridiculous decision.

I wouldn't mind if he was 60-70 and had continued to work hard etc but he has had a relatively average career for a so called World Class player.

Wish I could be as 'average' as Beckham. Champions League Winner, Premier League Winner, La Liga Winner, 100 caps for his country, 6 years as the captain, not really what I'd call 'average'.

ok maybe not average, but massively overrated.

Same as Roonry doing an autobiography a couple of years back. Just out of interest does the old granny brass get a mention?

Logicalman

I believe it was for far more than just his playing career.

He has done quite a bit in an ambassadorial role for the sport on the world stage. I grant you, he was fortunate enough, with his success in the sport itself, to become such an ambassador, but unlike others - who have just as much success on the field as DB - he didn't just sit back and count his millions.

Imho, whatever you might think of him personally, and his wife, it should make no difference that he has, and still is, a great ambassador for football world-wide, and that is why the award.

Mr Alfie,
If I was married to Posh Spice, I wouldn't be sitting back at home and counting my millions either. I would jump on any opportunity to get the hell out of there and go on the road to get some peace and a break from the nagging.  :drums:

Its not Beckham you should be blaming but the BBC,
Making jumped up catorgories to fill out air time and boost ratings,
and after what they did to 'help' the wolrd cup bid.....
If I was Becks, I would have told them to stick there award where
the sun doesn't shine :dft004: :59:
