Games for the Weekend 01/12

We’re off to the dog track this weekend

Chelsea v Fulham

So the 2nd game in  Claudio Ranieri’s term in charge of the “Mighty Whites” is against one of his previous teams. Having got the win against Southampton, the team showed more fight having gone behind and in previous games we would have capitulated against the strong Saints finish? but we held on for our 2nd win.

Chelsea’s unbeaten run came to an end against Spurs, what are the chances Ranieri can get the lads to get a result against most expectations?

I think we did OK against Liverpool, certainly for the 1st half, and Chambers looked a completely different player. Ryan has to play a more attacking role and I can see AK47 coming on later in the game.

Games for the Weekend 24/11

Back to the Cottage for our game against Southampton this weekend

Fulham v Southampton

A new chapter starts for Fulham FC with the appointment of Claudio Ranieri and following on from the improved performance against Liverpool, perhaps we’ll see a turnaround in our fortunes. We really need to get something out of this game before the trip away to Chelsea next week.

It’ll be interesting to see how the “tinker man” sets up his Fulham side, how will Mitro’ fit-in?, can he get the best out of Seri & Anguissa?, will Ryan play a more attacking role?, and not least how will he improve the defence? interesting times ahead.

Mark Hugs, who could be the next manager to get the sack, left as Fulham manager when he decided that we didn’t have enough ambition, I wonder what he’d have thought if he’d been given £100 million worth of transfer funds?

Personally I’m sorry that Slaviša lost his job, last season we played some of the best football I’ve ever seen Fulham play and I’ll never forget our day at Wembley, I wish you the best of luck Slaviša.

Team against Liverpool 11/11

Over on the forum we’ve been discussing the team against Liverpool…

I know that many would have both Vietto and Schurrle in their starting 11 however I’m not convinced that either provide enough, Vietto doesn’t want to shoot? and Schurrle needs 20+ chances and I think that they don’t help the overall shape of the team.

team against Liverpool

The team has been very unbalanced recently as we have a Championship right back, and Sess doing a great job at LB when ideally he would be further forward.
It is clear therefore we need a RB and LB in January and the tide will change as it will have a knock on effect throughout the team.

Until then, we need Christie/Ayite and MLM/Sess covering our flanks as damage control…

I don’t expect this team to create many chances and Mitro will likely be isolated. However the reality is that we don’t have the players or the form to get a result at Anfield. We have to cover our weaknesses in defence as above, and use Mitro holding up the ball and counter attacks to give us a chance.

Games for the Weekend 10/11

We travel to Liverpool for a Sunday game

Liverpool v Fulham

After two easily winnable matches, well they were on paper however the actual games turned out differently!, we now get to visit one of the leagues “in form” teams, I’m not expecting much from this weekend.

There’s lots of talk about this being one of Slaviša’s last games to save his job, I hope thats not true as I think given time he’ll be able to get us back to winning ways, so perhaps he’ll be concentrating on next weeks game against Southampton?

Games for the Weekend 3/11

Our first Monday evening game sees us travelling to Huddersfield

Huddersfield v Fulham

Who decides on these idiotic fixtures where the opposing team has to travel so far for a non-weekend fixture? I can understand ‘local’ games being midweek however expecting fans to take time off work both before and after the game shows that its no longer about the supporter, by the time they get home it’ll be the early hours!

Anyhow, this must be an away game that Slaviša has penciled in as a possible win, after recent results we need to get some points and as the next away game at Liverpool I think we’ll be travelling more in hope than expectation?

Lets see if the team can provide the fireworks on the pitch

Team against Bournemouth 27/10

over on the forum we’ve been discussing what team we would pick to try and stop leaking so many goals.

here are a couple of examples…

whitejc

Fulham v Bournemouth

Subs: Betts, MLM, KMac, Odoi, Christie, AK47, Vietto

the back 4 is all dependant on who is fit.

Rico needs to be given his chance, Betts I’m sure will eventually regain his first place however, stating the bleedin’ obvious, we need to stop shipping goals and whilst I don’t think Betts was responsible for any(?) but we really need to try something/someone different.

Games for the Weekend 27/10

This weekend we welcome Bournemouth to Craven Cottage

Fulham v Bournemouth

After a run of terrible defensive displays, hopefully Slaviša will have worked on something to stem the flow of goals against? Timothy Fosu-Mensah could be back, assuming his shoulder is better, we really need a stable, functioning back four.

We also need Tom back in midfield, KMac and SetfJo were great for us last season but I feel they’re not quite Premiership standard, certainly not 90 minutes worth anyway.

Bournemouth are comfortably in the top half of the table and must be relishing the chance to get a hat-full of goals, we really need to give them a surprise and get our season back on track COYW.

Games for the Weekend 20/10

This weekend we travel to South Wales to take on fellow Premiership ‘new boys’ Cardiff

Cardiff v Fulham

Well the past couple of games didn’t go the way we’d hoped so this weekend we’ll be aiming to get a result against a Cardiff ream that haven’t won a game so far this season, so expect a Fulhamish result!?

I’m sure Slaviša will have spent the ‘international break’ working with the players on their defensive duties, something Colin will try to exploit.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah is unlikely to be fit, so Cyrus Christie will hope for a better performance than against Arsenal, he wasn’t as bad as some have made out however he’ll want to answer some of his critics with a performance. At this point we don’t know if Tom Cairney, Alfie Mawson or Joe Bryan will be in the squad, their inclusion can only help shore up a too leaky defence.

If Slaviša’s style of football is better than Colin’s version then this game is the one to drive our point home, last season’s fixture resulted in a 4-2 defeat, time for revenge…

if Cairney isn’t fit enough for the full 90 minutes then swap him for KMac later in the game, but I’d start Tom. Ryan’s pace and guile will give the Arse something to worry about, he’s better the further upfield he plays
