Games for the Weekend 20/10

This weekend we travel to South Wales to take on fellow Premiership ‘new boys’ Cardiff

Cardiff v Fulham

Well the past couple of games didn’t go the way we’d hoped so this weekend we’ll be aiming to get a result against a Cardiff ream that haven’t won a game so far this season, so expect a Fulhamish result!?

I’m sure Slaviša will have spent the ‘international break’ working with the players on their defensive duties, something Colin will try to exploit.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah is unlikely to be fit, so Cyrus Christie will hope for a better performance than against Arsenal, he wasn’t as bad as some have made out however he’ll want to answer some of his critics with a performance. At this point we don’t know if Tom Cairney, Alfie Mawson or Joe Bryan will be in the squad, their inclusion can only help shore up a too leaky defence.

If Slaviša’s style of football is better than Colin’s version then this game is the one to drive our point home, last season’s fixture resulted in a 4-2 defeat, time for revenge…

Games for the Weekend 06/10

This weekend we welcome Arsenal to the Cottage

Fulham v Arsenal

My very first Fulham game was against Arsenal, New Years Day 1966, we won 1-0 and I was hooked! …a repeat result would be more than welcome.

With Fosu-Mensah and Joe Bryan going off injured against Everton, and Alfie Mawson recovering from a back problem, it looks as if we’ll continue to struggle to play a consistent four at the back. At least Tim Ream got the full 90 minutes so he’ll be closer to full ‘match fitness’.

Tom Cairney also got some game time so at least he’ll be back in the squad, I always think we’re better when he’s on the pitch, he really has become our ‘talisman’.

Slaviša Jokanović will have worked the lads hard(er) this week following the 2nd half display against Everton, we’ll need to be fully focused for ALL of the match against an Arsenal side that Unai Emery is getting consistent results,  even when they play badly.

remember our game is the early kick-off 12:00 on Sunday

Fulham v Exeter City – Carabao Cup

Tuesday evening see’s Fulham take on Exeter City in the Carabao Cup

Fulham v Exeter City - Carabao Cup

Survival in the Premiership is surly the top priority for Slaviša Jokanović however,  the Gaffer will almost certainly use this fixture to give ‘game time’ to some of the players who haven’t played so far this season.
The choice of goalkeeper will be interesting, perhaps we will get a look at Sergio Rico or will Fabri get another game between the sticks?
There’s a strong rumour that Alfie Mawson will feature, I doubt that he’ll get the full 90 minutes, getting him to full match fitness would certainly be a boost to the back four.
Others from the first team squad who may get a look in, if fit, are Tim Ream, Neeskens Kebano, Ibrahim Cisse and Rui Fonte. All of these guys played an important part in our promotion campaign and it makes sense to keep them ‘match fit’ in case their needed due to injury or suspension(s).
‘Youngsters’ who may also get a game include Steven Sessegnon, Marlon Fossey and Luca de la Torre. Any of these will be looking to show how their ready to make the step up to the first team squad and who knows maybe get their Premiership debut sometime this season?

Anyhow, whoever plays I hope they all have a great game and that maybe this will be the first game in a ‘cup run’ that would give us another successful day out at Wembley!
