Games for mid-week 27/09

We welcome Norwich for a Wednesday evening kickoff League (Carabao) Cup tie, 19:45 kickoff

Fulham v Norwich

After a tricky game against Palace at the weekend, its time to turn our attention to a cup run?
The winner of this game will be into the last 16, and with Brentford playing Arsenal, Man Utd playing Palace, Newcastle playing Man City, Villa playing Everton some of the “big boys” will go out this round, it could get very interesting.
After a successful season, no thought of yo-yos, we look like a comfortable mid-table team even with no Mitro, 6 points from 8 games isn’t a bad return. The League Cup could provide a route to playing European football again, that could be instrumental in keeping players and attracting new ones.
With next Monday’s Chelsea game in mind, I’d rest some players and give game time to others, I’d start Vinicius and, if fit, Adama, Iwobi and Lukić, Ballo-Touré would get his debut. I’d give Palhinha the night off, he’s too important to risk?

Norwich fared worse then uas as they lost their game at the weekend 6-2 to Plymouth Argyle so will be looking to bounce back against us.

my team would be

team to face Norwich

Games for mid-week 29/08

We welcome Spurs to the Cottage for a 19:45 Carabao Cup game under the lights

Fulham v Spurs Carabao Cup

Spurs are the highest ranked team(?) in this round so we can be a little unlucky to draw them as apposed to some of the other teams such as Plymouth, Tranmere, Wycombe, Gillingham, Harrogate Town etc.
I’m sure that Spurs probably think the same, Premier League teams will always be tougher opposition, having said that, this is the cup and “giant killings” happen every year.

I think this could be an opportunity to play some of the “second team” and younger players to give them some competitive game time.

my team would be…

Fulham squad to face Spurs in the Carabao Cup

Games for mid-week 16/09

We travel to Ipswich for a Carabao Cup game.

Ipswich v Fulham

Following on from our first game back in the Premiership we get the distraction of a League Cup game.

Perhaps we’ll get to see some of the “new” boys, Areola, Robinson, Lemina? could be useful as a competitive development game.

Ipswich will be looking for a Premier scalp, so it should be a good game.

Team against Millwall 25/09

over on the forum we’ve been discussing who will play against Millwall in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday…

whitejc

do we want a cup run? as fans I suspect we do, Slaviša may want to concentrate on the league however we all know that winning games brings confidence.

So will we go ‘full strength’ against a Millwall team who are having a tough time in the Championship but will be looking for revenge against last seasons result, or play the ‘2nd string’ or even give some of the youngsters a game?

I think it’ll be mainly the 2nd string players unless Tom and Tim are fit enough and need to gain some ‘match fitness’, so assuming those two aren’t quite ready here’s my selection…

Team against Millwall

I’m assuming that Kebano is fit enough to play

Millwall v Fulham – Carabao Cup

We travel the short tip across the river to the New Den for our next game in the Carabao Cup

Millwall v Fulham

If Tuesday nights game is half as good as last season then we’re in for a treat, last season we really enjoyed our trip to Millwall’s ground, what an atmosphere the Lions supporters generated! and what a result for us!

It’ll be interesting to see how many ‘first team’ players Slaviša will start against Millwall, will Tim Ream and Tom Cairney get any game time in their aim to get back to match fitness?

Millwall are having a bit of a tough time at the moment and I’m sure they want to get some sort of revenge for last season?, so this game could be a cracker!

Fulham v Exeter City – Carabao Cup

Tuesday evening see’s Fulham take on Exeter City in the Carabao Cup

Fulham v Exeter City - Carabao Cup

Survival in the Premiership is surly the top priority for Slaviša Jokanović however,  the Gaffer will almost certainly use this fixture to give ‘game time’ to some of the players who haven’t played so far this season.
The choice of goalkeeper will be interesting, perhaps we will get a look at Sergio Rico or will Fabri get another game between the sticks?
There’s a strong rumour that Alfie Mawson will feature, I doubt that he’ll get the full 90 minutes, getting him to full match fitness would certainly be a boost to the back four.
Others from the first team squad who may get a look in, if fit, are Tim Ream, Neeskens Kebano, Ibrahim Cisse and Rui Fonte. All of these guys played an important part in our promotion campaign and it makes sense to keep them ‘match fit’ in case their needed due to injury or suspension(s).
‘Youngsters’ who may also get a game include Steven Sessegnon, Marlon Fossey and Luca de la Torre. Any of these will be looking to show how their ready to make the step up to the first team squad and who knows maybe get their Premiership debut sometime this season?

Anyhow, whoever plays I hope they all have a great game and that maybe this will be the first game in a ‘cup run’ that would give us another successful day out at Wembley!
