Games for the Weekend 06/08

And the Championship kicks off…

Fulham v Middlesborough

New season, new manager, new players, new kit.

It’s a shame that we have to wait until Sunday, I’m guessing we’ll have a lot of games moved from Saturdays this season but the Euro games made waiting for the start appear not quite as long?
I’m looking forward to seeing how Silva gets us playing, hopefully more exciting that the past couple of seasons.
Also I’m interested to see if any of the new additions will get a game, the young lad from Liverpool looks to be an exciting addition but I think it would be harsh on Rodak not to start the season.
At the time of writing, Wednesday afternoon, there’s been no further news on the young Brazilian, apparently he tested positive for COVID so it doesn’t look as if he’s going to get a game this month, and the Matt Grimes saga is following a “typical” Fulham transfer pattern?

Having such a seasoned old campaigner in Colin as our first opponent should prove to be an interesting test for Marco and whatever team he sends out, hopefully Mitro will be back on fire and we’ll get a taste of what we can expect for the rest of the season.

Our record against Middlesbrough is consistent with 5 wins, 5 loses and 4 draws, so Sunday would be a good time to tip the balance in our favour.

GAME ON play-off semi-final 2nd leg.

So we now know that Brentford have made it through to the play-off final.

Fulham v Cardiff City

Going into the game with a 2-0 aggregate lead surely make us favourites to face Brentford in the final? apparently no team has ever overcome a 2 goal deficit in the 2nd leg, sounds far too Fulhamish to me.
There’s good news with both Mitro’ and Cavaleiro joining in training, decisions on if they’re in the match day squad will be made later today. If we play like we did in the first leg then it shouldn’t really matter if one or both of them are rested with a view to keeping them fully fit for a potential appearance in the final?
Another good omen is Neil Harris’ managerial record against us…

won0
drawn0
lost6
goals scored1
goals conceded15

…so on paper we’ve got this in the bag, however being Fulham…

Games for mid-week 02/02

We make the short across South London to the New Den to take on Millwall at their place.

Millwall v Fulham

We enjoyed our trip to Blackburn, wasn’t that the first time we’ve won there since the early eighties? Isn’t good that Mitro’s back, that was number 20 in the league, he must be a good bet for 30 for the season?
So we’re currently only outside the automatic promotion positions on goal difference, who’d have guessed that back in November?
It’s funny if results go “our way” we could be in 2nd, if they don’t we could be 5th, Tuesday evenings Brentford v Leeds and Forest v Charlton will be results to keep an eye on!

Millwall’s gave West Brom a good game on Sunday even though they lost, by all accounts the pitch wasn’t very good so that might be a leveller?

We’ve a reasonable record against Millwall, the game earlier this season we played the best football I’ve seen in quite some time, with 4 wins and a loss and a draw. If we come close to replicating the form we had in the earlier game and/or of the game in our promotion season then we should have an enjoyable evening, regardless of the result I’m sure it’ll be a good game.

Games for the Weekend 08/02

We’re on our travels again, this weekend were off to Blackburn Rovers.

Blackburn Rovers v Fulham

Well we hung-on after a fantastic start on Saturday, those first 30-35 minutes were some of the best I’ve seen at the Cottage this season, the second half we managed to hang-on, at some points in this season we wouldn’t have.
Really good news that both Mitro and AK47 were back for the game and with Bobby Decordova-Reid scoring one of the best goals I’ve seen for some time, things look better on the attacking front.
As for defence the addition of Michael Hector has made a “chalk and cheese” difference to the back four, if only he could have started at the beginning of the season.

Blackburn are on a bit of a run themselves, they drew with Middlesborough at the weekend, beat QPR at home, beat Wednesday 0-5 away and drew with Preston NE.
Our results against Rovers is quite even with 5 wins, 8 loses and 6 draws so if history is anything to go by it’ll be a close game.

Games for Mid-Week 26/11

Tuesday evening at the Cottage, this time we take on Derby County.

Fulham v Derby County

After a shaky start Friday evening the lads eventually came good with AK47 getting a couple of well taken goals.
Scotty Parker will have to think hard and long about his inclusion in the starting eleven now that Mitro has served his one match ban.
If the two of them could form a partnership they would be truly frightening to any team.

Derby also had a home win, their fifth successive home win, against Preston North End on Saturday however they’ve not had too much success on the road.

Games for the Weekend 10/08

Our first home game of the season will be against Blackburn Rovers at 15:00 Saturday afternoon.

Fulham v Blackburn

Last weekend’s opener against Burnley didn’t go the way we’d hoped but this time we’re back on home turf, let’s see if Craven Cottage will once again become our fortress?
We have signed Ben Ticker however at 18 he’s going to be one for the future, and Harry Arter, Scotties brother-in-law, on loan and there have been plenty of other rumours, Onomah as part of the ongoing Sess’ deal, Amartey from Leicester, Jacob Murphy from Newcastle etc. but so far nothing concrete, I’m guessing it’ll be another last minute rush.
Our front three of Mitro’, Knockaert and Cavaleiro should give most Championship teams pause for thought, especially if we can bring on AK47 for the last 10-20 minutes to run at tired defences, I hope we get to see evidence of how good they are starting this weekend.
Will we have strengthened the defence? we can only hope so otherwise it could be a very long season.

Back to the week-end, like us, Rovers also lost by a single goal against a newly promoted team, Charlton, and you just know that Tony Mowbray will have his team fired-up to play against us.

Games for Midweek 26/02

We get to visit the south coast for a game against Southampton

Southampton v Fulham

After yet another disappointing performance, apart from the first 10 minutes or so, we now get to visit the home of one of the 4 teams we’ve beaten this season, so its an easy game right?
I think that this game, apart for Cardiff at home, is the most winnable that we have left for this season however, in truth I can’t see us getting any sort of result, I’ve lost all ‘belief’ in this team.
What I can’t understand is how we’ve lost any ‘fight’, with the exception of Mitro it’s as if the players have already given up, perhaps they’ve been continually told that “their not good enough” and have started to believe it?
Cairney and Sess, who were the heartbeat of the team last season, appear to be ‘surplus to requirements’ and the way that Ryan, one of the most exciting young talents I’ve ever seen at Fulham, has been singled out for public criticism can’t be helping either him or the ‘team spirit’?

I’m hoping they prove me wrong.

Games for the Weekend 02/02

This weekend we’re off to Selhurst Park to take on Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace.

Crystal Palace v Fulham

So after our midweek game against Brighton we face a Crystal Palace side sitting 6 points above us however Palace will be without their star striker and talisman Wilfried Zaha who was sent off against Southampton.
The 2nd half performance against Brighton showed our potential, we just need to build on that and get a result, which won’t be easy, against Palace before the visit of Man Utd.
Mitro had a great game, continually bulling the defence and scored a couple which proved to be pivotal, Seri had probably his best game and it was good to see Babel get the full 90 minutes, I wonder if we’ll see Havard Nordtveit? if he’s half as good as Brede it’ll be good to have another Norwegian in the team.

Games for the Weekend 29/12

Following the draws against Newcastle and Wolves, this Saturday we welcome Huddersfield to the Cottage for yet another “6 pointer”.

Fulham v Huddersfield

Well we’re off the bottom so at least we’re moving in the right direction.
With Burnley playing West Ham another 3 points could see us jump another place however, Huddersfield will leapfrog us if they win.
Ranieri looks to have improved our defence but the lack of a cutting edge is now an issue, Mitro has looked an isolated figure at times.

Huddersfield are having a terrible run at the moment, they’ve not won since they beat Wolves on November 25th, so they’ll be desperate to get some points (sound familiar?) The last game they won before that was, you guessed it, against us, so I’m certain that they believe they will get something out of the game.

Games for the Weekend – 15/12

On Saturday we welcome another London team, West Ham Utd to the Cottage.

Fulham v West Ham

The 2nd half against Man Utd showed a much better performance, certainly compared to the 1st half, so hopefully we can continue that improvement against West Ham.

West Ham have improved since their poor start to the season so I think this game will be more of a test as to how Ranieri has ‘improved’ Fulham.

Due to injury Ryan Fredericks, he’s out for the rest of the year at least, won’t get a run out against us, players always seem to have good games against their previous clubs?, his pace could have caused us problems? …and if he’s learned to cross a ball we could have been in real trouble?

Two forwards who, if fit, might be a cause for concern for the Fulham back four are Chicharito and Andy Carroll who’s speed and height would be a concern even if our defenders were full of confidence. Still Mitro and Ryan Sess can/will cause the hammers defence problems, so I’m expecting a good competitive game. COYW
