Listening to Silva's comments he is happy here, and if he gets back, expects more from the team

why on earth would he go there? Sideways/backwards step + living on Nottingham instead of London?
Depends on what they offer him, and I don't just mean financial.

A handy?

What do you mean ha?

Budget wise it sounds like they're cutting it fine already, already reportedly have to sell in order to avoid further sanctions. That could even mean further point deductions potentially? So not like they could seemingly offer to throw the kitchen sink at new transfers again.

Not really sure what that job offers that's better than here. Other than they once were a bigger club - but it's starting another "project" as opposed to what would seemingly be more attractive stepping into an established big club which surely would be more of interest to him.
I have no idea, but there could always be something that attracts a manager, that was my point.

Yeh I was just saying I don't see why he would and so asked the question.
It's not a common occurrence for a manager to take a backwards step to a club that's finished below his current team for 8 out of the last 10 years. Who want him because he's been performing well at his current club that he recently signed a new contract for sighting regularly the ongoing "project" here.

Now - Tottenham/Westham/Newcastle I start to go, ok, I'm more concerned and can kinda see why he'd consider it.... Anyone big club in regular European competition I would understand....but Forest? It's not like he himself is from the midlands and has huge affection for it and family there..

Would be incredibly surprised if that happened.

Players left, surplus, end of contract or at risk of leaving

Tosin gone.
Broja & Bollo-Toure returned to home clubs
Rodak gone. apparantly we had an option for another year but didn't trigger it

Mabu & Vinicius are both surplus but can we sell or is it financially prudent to keep and loan out again.

BDR & Willian out of contract/ negotiations ongoing.

Tete club taken up 1 year extension.

Palhinha will go if the right offer comes in - £50 plus is my guess.

Pereria, Robinson & Muniz all have clubs interested

Ream and Jimenez. Talk in the press about interest from home country clubs.

That's a lot of players left or potentially leaving!

Quote from: Angus Telford on June 08, 2024, 01:18:48 PMI can't see Silva going to Forest but if he did, the attraction would be ambition. They've outspent us three-fold since promotion. Is that because we've been hamstrung by our spending in prior seasons, or has the well run dry with respect to Khan's own cash? You'd guess the former but who knows? And if the result is that Silva sees Forest as more likely to progress upwards in the next couple of years, that would surely be compelling for him. FWIW I firmly reckon he's here to stay but would guess the club had to promise to back him heavily on transfers this summer.

They're not being run well at all. They've been overspending like crazy and only stayed up as there were 3 more atrocious teams in the league

Absolutely Bill, well summed up. Worrying times for us Fulham fans, yet again. Just wish we could consistently get higher up the Premier League table to stop our best players being picked up, usually on the cheap, by other clubs...

Yes, and think of the cost of similar replacements, probably a lot more than we can spend.

If I was Marco I would definitely act like I was interested in the Forest job solely to secure the backing for this Summer.

Forest are in FFP hell for the next couple years so it's a pretty unattractive job unless you really like the current squad and the best of them, Gibbs-White, probably has to be sold.

copthornemike

I think an offer for Forest's Murillo is in order here.
Him and Bassey would be pretty impressive in the usual starting XI, particularly with Diop and Ream also in the squad.
Forest need some money to come in.

JackHamlet90

Have seen a few links of players I think will do really well for us

Mengi
Chalobah
Morato
Smith Rowe
Summerville
McTominay
Nketiah

All players that would bring something to taking us to another level for sure

Matt10

Bayern are allowing Coman, Gnabry, Goretzka, Kimmich, Mazraoui and de Ligt to leave. If they want Palhinha that bad, I'd say we find a deal to get Gnabry, Goretzka and de Ligt type of 3-for-1 deal. I'd settle 2-for-1 there as well.

Surely he realises that going to Nottingham would mean spending the coming years on a shoe string budget and deducted points cleaning up the mess? No chance he goes there

Surlyc

Going to Forest would permanently define Silva down to a mid-table and lower manager. Even ignoring how badly run they are, it would be a horrible career choice.

However if I was Marco Silva I would absolutely be feigning interest, to get leverage over Fulham for a new deal/more funds. It is just how the game is played.

Highly doubt Fulham are getting £50m for Palhinha, it will be more like £35-38 as per the BM number being quoted of 45m Euro.

Fact is his performances have declined since the previous window when people where making outrageous claims of a £70m+ midfielder.

Great player, but we probably will be out of pocket over the previous window, and his second half season contribution was below par.

Respect that that is your opinion but on what basis is that your assessment?

Quote from: Angus Telford on June 09, 2024, 10:43:32 AMGenuine question - what's the reasoning behind this?

We know they eventually balanced the books by selling Johnson (albeit slightly after the accounting deadline, hence the sanction) so coming into this season (24/25) they still have the same allowable loss as us, £35m.

Is the suggestion that we have some additional headroom from the last two seasons (ie we lost less than £35m in either or both of those seasons) that we can carry into this season?

Because then the obvious question is, why didn't we spend it already?

Could it be that our loss three seasons ago was greater than theirs - and could this, in turn, have meant our loss these past two seasons had to be less than theirs, which would give us more of a potential budget going into next season?

And could it be that we were compliant with FFP last season even without the late departure of Mitrovic - meaning the money from his sale is available to bolster our spending this time round?

That Forest need to sell at least one more of their star players this season and we don't? They balanced last seasons amortised costs, but amortised costs keep coming and Forest will have to continue selling players for a couple more seasons to balance the books. They're at far from a blank slate.

I'm actually quietly condident (famous last words) but it looks like Marco has his assistant in so not going anywhere and it seems the assistant is more than capable to take over if required.

Yes we will lose Paulinha & AP, but I guess this can be a positive as well; financially and helps us to convince other players to join. It shows future players that when you come to Fulham, you can grow and we won't get in the way of a dream transfer

The recruitment over the last 2/3 years has been excellent or as good as it's ever been, so will trust that we have plans ready
(Also the free agents are decent this year)

I never thought I would say this, but..... in Tony we trust haha

Palhinha is basically irreplaceable with one player given how unique he is, but if you get £45m for him, then given our current financial headroom you are able to bring in 2 £20-30m players that are younger and would match (or hopefully) even improve upon his output.

Periera is much more replaceable as he's good, but he's not that good, and the key with him is what kind of fee you are getting and being smart in bringing in a replacement.
