Quote from: itombomb on June 09, 2024, 01:20:50 PMPalhinha is basically irreplaceable with one player given how unique he is, but if you get £45m for him, then given our current financial headroom you are able to bring in 2 £20-30m players that are younger and would match (or hopefully) even improve upon his output.

Periera is much more replaceable as he's good, but he's not that good, and the key with him is what kind of fee you are getting and being smart in bringing in a replacement.

No player is irreplaceable

Quote from: btffc on June 08, 2024, 07:14:07 PMForest are in FFP hell for the next couple years so it's a pretty unattractive job unless you really like the current squad and the best of them, Gibbs-White, probably has to be sold.

Genuine question - what's the reasoning behind this?

We know they eventually balanced the books by selling Johnson (albeit slightly after the accounting deadline, hence the sanction) so coming into this season (24/25) they still have the same allowable loss as us, £35m.

Is the suggestion that we have some additional headroom from the last two seasons (ie we lost less than £35m in either or both of those seasons) that we can carry into this season?

Because then the obvious question is, why didn't we spend it already?

I'm not saying this is the reason at all.

But he has managed under the same owner before at Olympiacos?

Hugh Janus

With Andre and big John McGinn inbound I think that's great business

I was massively impressed with Mcginn when he's played against us the last few years. But no chance of seeing him leave Villa now they got European footy.

Andre and Smith-Rowe sound more realistic if we sell Palhinha.

In that instance, I think we still need a proper CDM though. Unless we massively change how we play.

Andre does put himself about with great energy(like Reed)  and is great at turning defence to attack - but he's not an enforcer like Palhinha.

Andrea and Luis would be a better combo with the Palhinha money.
ESR on top with our normal transfer bud and I'd be salivating a little at that midfields potential. (although Andre + Morten Hjulmand + ESR would also be awesome on paper)

Not sure who could replace,Palhinia ,Mctominay.Think Lukic could do it ,not in the way Palhinia does.but effectively for most opponents.

Hmmm.

A half-decent return last year- 7 goals but zero assists in 36 games at Burnely. Can't say I noticed him at all last year.

Not quite the Willian replacement I'd be desperate to see but hey. Perhaps the club have seen something I'm unaware of and a low expense punt on a former Borussia Dortmund youth player.

Neutral Zone Ultra

At £6m would be happy with Bruun Larsen as a bench option. 6 goals from the wing in one of the worst Premier League teams in history last season, and we need the squad depth.

Tabby

Bruun Larsen seems like he'd be a replacement for BDR rather than Willian.

Yeah, a goal every 200 minutes for that Burnley side isn't bad and his underlying numbers (xG/XAG) are also actually fairly decent. If Willian goes I'd certainly want to see a more high profile signing but for depth (and at a reasonable price) this would be a decent signing.

Mctominay? No thanks. Apparently he rejected us last season. He can't even get in a poor United team

TC can't get in a poor Scotland team, does that make him a bad player, and if he rejected us back then I guess it wasn't the right time for him, might be different now.

Story of my life
"I was looking back to see if she was looking back to see if i was looking back at her"
Sadly she wasn't

Main issue with mactominay for me is that he seems better playing CM and pushing forwards than CDM.

Not a Palhinha replacement by any means to me.

10 goals in just over 40 performances for utd, many of which were important game winning goals though.

Wouldn't sniff at the signing just would prefer a CDM if Joao goes. Would still prefer Andre if we're looking box to box but not sure if that's still one were looking at

Their PSR breach means that they need to raise £65 m in sales. And they need to do so before June 30th. Thats likely MGW and perhaps also Murillo gone.

Would Love MGW but probably wouldnt happen, think he'd get picked up by a newcastle/villa/spurs/West ham type club

*edit*

Looked it up and he is indeed a target for Tottenham apparently which doesn't suprise me.
