That's why Cairney got a new 1 year deal i have heard the players we are going for have multiple options from different clubs and we are being turned down by the players and agents we are now looking at plan C players that clubs are finding difficult to shift

When are we signing Phil Jones?

Might be better off signing Paul Jones and Manfred Mann
No better with Paul Jones Blues band.

Someone on the Discord chat reckons that Ali Mac has been tasked to bring the wage bill down gradually. Makes sense as we we're at just over 85% for squad cost ratio on the last accounts which means if the new rules that have been delayed come in we are borderline for falling foul of them (unless we made sales to cover it). If in Europe it is 70% and apparently that's his long term target to get the cost down to. If true not exactly easy is it when trying to bump contracts for the likes of Muniz and then offer big contracts for ambitious targets to convince them to come. Think these new rules are going to be even worse for us than the old ones and really can't see why so many clubs agreed to it.

If this is true I don't think we've made much progress, if anything we'll have gone backwards as likely Cairney and definitely Tete will have just had pay rises.

If we really want to cut the wage bill then Jimenez needs to go, and we need to be thinking about a replacement for Leno over the next year or two.

if true it also means the balance between players with potential and experienced players needs to be just so.

We have the wrong ratio at the moment if trying to reduce wage bill.

wage-to-turnover ratio was 76%, a drop from the previous year's 126%... Suspect they want that down more but it won't be done overnight.

Hell of a lot of money for a Championship side to turn down, even with parachute payments! Have to suspect Chelsea have a sizeable sell on clause.
I read somewhere that the fee was agreed but clubs couldn't agree structure of payments.

^ Sorry Mick posted before i saw your post.

£35m was his relegation clause which has now expired, so yes fee agreed but as you say structure of the payment was rejected as was over a number of instalments.

In any case, as I said when he was linked with us I think £35m is about £20-25m too much for him.

Yeah the thing is mate it's only Tete tgat matters in this equation. Those rules don't come in for another year at least and they were already pushed back. Raul and TC are only on a years contract and under old rules we reportedly have tonnes of room. If they do come in you'd imagine TC won't be renewed and you'd hope that We have replaced Raul with a younger striker on less wage. Also not just the wage bill. The amortised fees count to this as well I believe snd TC, Raul and Tete don't have one of course. About bringing the whole lot down.

Would be interesting to do/see some wage bill analysis. Capology/FBRef (not the best sources I know) have us on £70m (basic salaries only, I think) with Forest and Brighton on £60m, Brentford and Bournemouth on £50m approx. How is that even remotely possible?

Are we still paying Kongolo and Seri?

Surely a large part of that is a bump in revenue from the Riverside Stand? If so then we can expect a slightly steadier revenue growth from now on?

Yeah they did say it was a gradual target. New rules were pushed back a year and who's to say they won't be again. We were borderline but I believe a load of clubs were well over!!

Arsenal are open to the loan move for Nelson and both clubs are now working to get it over the line in the coming days.

Just a no brainer for both parties and player which is a pretty unusual position to be in. Watch it still not happen quickly.

Quote from: Drewry66 on July 16, 2025, 04:32:07 PMSaid all along that Nelson would be a loan with an option or obligation to buy. Just makes sense for all parties. If he can stay fit £15m could be a steal so if it was an obligation at something like that based on a lot of appearances I'd be happy with that. If he's cropped the only major loss is lack of cover but if we go for a second winger anyway and get a striker who could play left (Romulo could by the looks of it) I'd say it's a good plan.
can't believe you think 15mil is a steal he's on 5 mil a year has 2 years left 5mil is too much

itombomb

Happy with Nelson IF he is one winger we are bringing in, we need that other forward who can make the difference in tight games next season.

A lot of it is ages of players and where you get them from. We've got loads of older players who have come from other PL clubs, so if you sign them they will be on much higher wages than a younger player bought from a European or South American league. Then they either sell them on a few years later before they have massive salary bumps, or for the 'stars' like Caicedo they will do a deal for the short term with the plan to sell for big money.

Actually getting to that wage ratio would require a massive change in strategy from Marco's preferred approach to recruitment.

After a loan for a year and he proves his fitness mate. See stat wheel above. In previous seasons he's scored snd assisted a lot more per 90 as well. Been said by many at Arsenal that out of him, Saka, ESR and the others around that time he was the best prospect by some way. There is also no way we will put him on £100k a week if we sign him perm after the year...all rumours are he is willing to drop to play for us. All about whether we can keep him fit. Managed it with Sess. That's why it will be a loan with an option.
