All the fuss about what happens at corner kicks could easily be sorted by a change of rules for next season.
The ref was correct to disallow Hammers goal yesterday but I have seen worse this season. When Man Utd played Brentford at one stage about 14 players were in the 6 yard box and it took over two minutes to take the corner because the ref was continually warning people.
The solution, change the rules. If a player stops a goalkeeper moving for the ball unless he stands still and doesn't move from his original position award a foul. It would only take a couple of games for players to realise that there is no point in crowding the 6 yard box and we should see more traditional or inventive corners.
It would also be easier for refs to spot any deliberate pulling and shoving near the ball which may influence proceedings and then award penalties if required. Yes it may not alleviate all that goes on but would be easier to officiate.
Hilariously
I was just about to post very similar after seeing the article about corners on skysports.
So, I feel the probkem has come from the fact refs are not giving a foul for any touch of the goalkeeper.
Something that has only been implemented around 2 or 3 years ago. Before then we had the 'keeper protection' and this worked very well for many many years. Sometimes you'd get a little groan that the keeper wasn't fouled by some bias fan who obviously wanted the goal awarded but the consistency meant it was hard to complain or find a similar situation were a different decision was made.
The new ruling of judging the keeper contact and deciding if it warrants a foul or not leaves everything up in the air. Now fans can very easily find a similar situation that went the other way and everything is subjective.
I second yourself and would push for the old days back. Bring back the keeper protection and any touch on the goalie is a foul.
P.s. I actually didnt think West ham was a foul. The keeper jumped into his arm and the West ham player would of had to break his arm and bend it unnaturally to get it away from the keepers chest. I also feel that Raya would not have claimed the ball either way. He tried to jump over too many players.
But then you have refs and VAR deciding what constitutes a player moving and you would still have individual refs (and VAR) making inconsistent decisions.
Better to ban all attacking players from the 6 yard box until the corner is taken.
This will allow room for the ref to better see whats going on, not perfect but a simple law change that is easy to manage.

We have been doing this all season..
Only allow 5 players from each team into the penalty box until the ball is cleared
An alternative that I'm not advocating would be to allow it to be a complete free for all, i.e. anything in the 6 yard box (aside from perhaps handball) would not be deemed a foul. Perhaps our wrestling connections would bear fruit!
I've seen the photo posted on another thread of the West Ham corner in question: everyone pushing, pulling, tugging and blocking. A complete mess !
I don't know what but something needs to be done about it, it's more like rugby than football.
Very interesting ideas and something that needs looking at. Corners are turning into a slow jumbled mess for spectators.
The ideas relating to the six yard box seem good, but six yards is a lot of space. Got me looking at what exactly is the purpose of the six yard box and there seems to be two. One is to set out where a goal kick can be taken and the other is to limit where an attacking indirect free kick can be taken from. We don't see a lot of such indirect free kicks and the way goal kicks play out I don't think it would make much difference if these were taken a couple of yards back.
So why not replace the six yard box with a four yard box and exclude opposition players from it at corners. It can't be any more impractical to referee than ensuring players stay out of the penalty area for a penalty kick.
Redrawing the lines on a football pitch might be sacrilegious, but seems worth exploring.

This was Darren Cann's (ex Lino) answer to the problem on BBC's Monday Night Club.

We've been preparing for this rule change in advance 👍🏻😂

Excluding attackers from the 6 yard box until the corner is taken could certainly help with the contact on keepers. (Leno would like that)
Although the wrestling and blocking would likely then start on the 6 yard line.
Any defender holding, wrestling with an opponent....penalty. OK, there could be 6 penalties in a game but it will stop it. If several attackers are holding. Stop games yellow card . Again could be 6 yellows, should have an impact. They wont do it again.

Add to that continued offences resulting in a point deduction.
I wonder how many goals Arsenal will score next year when the corner rules are tweaked, they've been massively reliant on this loophole.

But then the attackers just stand on the 6 yard line and then pile in when the ball is kicked.

And how would you tell who is holding who first?

plus yellow card the offender/s
Gone are the days when we used to benefit from the corner kick chaos.
On our roller coaster journey up the divisions we had a spell when either Coleman or Symons would score from a set piece nearly every game.
Incredibly, the bookies in the ground took so long to catch on to this

Also the player penalised for the foul was having his shirt pulled, as was many many others in that moment

Raya never left the ground, so not sure how he was seen to be jumping into his arm.

You can jump forward, which he is trying to do, hes trying to jump into, and over a plethora of players.
